A new map has been added, the Deep Woods:
The cabin tile is at the bottom of the map.
The edges of the map to the north are a dark forest with more difficult animals, but also better loot in bunkers.
Some traitor sabotages have been repriced.
The wolf trap sabotage costs 1 credit
The fireplace sabotage costs 3 credits.
Some items in traitor crates have been repriced:
Vodka and uncooked berries are free.
Tripwires, landmines, bear traps, poison, trap disarm kits, and campfires now cost 1 credit.
Defectors’ minimum charge time has been increased to 5 minutes and 30 seconds.
Defectors no longer start a match with any of their ability charged.
Changes have been made to the gondola map:
The traitor hatch near the cabin has been moved to the bottom of the ramp at the base of the mountain. Its companion hatch has been moved farther from the gondola station.
An exile box has been added to the bottom gondola station.
Players no longer lose warmth while they are in the gondola.
The gondola travels faster when no players are on it.
The range and rate at which traitors gain social credits has increased.
No role can solo open the armory.
The end-game accolade previously named “The Scout” has been renamed to “The Adventurer”
Added controller legend for lobby sorting mode
Added popup message for basic mode locked crafting items
BALANCE CHANGES:
Ranged weapons deal 30% more damage to animals.
Guns and gun parts are less likely to be found in open and closed bunkers.
Weapon skins revert back to their default skin when the Mass Hysteria event occurs.
The progression tree interface has been reorganized to make it easier to show and unlock past events.
Disabled emote wheel on ghosts
Ghost mode controls have been added to the Settings menu.
Social traitor credits no longer decay over time.
Re-enabled controller toggle on controls screen in the settings menu
Ghost abilities can no longer decrease a downed players revive timer

Fixed player having their selection reverted to their equipped item when entering recycle mode

First of all, we wanted to thank everyone for their feedback on the latest updates, and for your patience while we work towards porting Project Winter to other platforms. This latest update will only be available on Steam at this current moment, meaning crossplay between Steam and Microsoft will not be compatible. This is to prepare for our release on other platforms - which will be announced soon™. We understand that this could bring inconvenience for some players during this time, but we hope that this will better help us get all the platforms on the same content update in the long run due to certification and approval processes.
The last couple of updates have introduced some changes to our beloved roles, and implemented some changes and systems to help improve overall player experience! This update works towards better balancing through additional role changes and improving the social ranking system.
We’re also introducing changes to ghost gameplay! Ghosts now have their own bonus challenges, an inventory slot and more balanced abilities overall! We hope these improvements will allow for more fun ghost gameplay - both for ghosts and the players still alive in the game!
NEW FEATURES & GENERAL CHANGES:
ROLES: We are working towards an optimal balance of the roles that allows our playerbase to have fun while also maintaining the overall goals of Project Winter. Our main focus is to promote communication and teamwork while providing tools and roles that allow for social deception plays. We are introducing some changes that we hope will be stepping stones towards that balance:
Soldier, Scientist, Traitor Scientist, Medic, and Traitor Medic roles have been removed.
Any 3 players can open the armory together.
The armory can only be opened after the first objective has been completed.
The armory no longer appears on the minimap for any role.
Any player can use the lazarus machine.
The lazarus machine requires meat and fur in addition to a human heart.
Any player resurrected by the lazarus machine will be on the same team as the player who resurrected them.
If a traitor resurrects someone, they’re revived as a traitor. If a survivor resurrects someone, they’re revived as a survivor. If an ID thief that has not stolen a role resurrects someone, there is a 50/50 chance of them being a traitor or survivor.
A new role is added: the Tracker.
The Tracker can use their ability to “tag” players, bunker consoles, and the second objective (before the repair beacon has been activated).
Tagging one of the above lets the tracker see where they are in relation to that player/console/objective at all times, similar to a flare or beacon.
Trackers can only tag one thing at a time, and can switch their tag from their initial target when their ability is charged.
The defector’s ability charges slowly when they are around many people, and charges quickly when they are around less people.
ID Thieves can see the location of the first death/dead body in a match on the minimap.
ID Thief’s role description has been reworded to better communicate the purpose of their role.
Detectives no longer hear dead body proximity music next to a body once they have investigated that body.
Dead body proximity for both the detective and ID thief is controlled by the Music slider in the settings instead of the Ambient/SFX slider.
GHOST GAMEPLAY:
Ghosts can claim ghost-specific bonus challenges from the map outside the cabin.
Ghosts can only claim one ghost bonus challenge at a time, but can complete an unlimited number of ghost bonus challenges during a match.
Ghosts get one inventory slot that they can use to pick up and drop loose items.
Ghosts pick up items much slower than living players.
Items do not stack for ghosts. Ghosts can only pick up one item at a time.
If ghosts pick up poison, they can use it to poison interactable objects.
The visual effects for ghost abilities (ghost freeze, ghost heal, etc) are only visible to the players affected by those ghost abilities.
Ghost feast and ghost fire are changed to be AOE abilities similar to ghost freeze and ghost heal.
The amount of hunger granted by ghost feast is increased to 40.
The amount of warmth granted by ghost fire is increased to 40.
The amount of health granted by ghost heal is increased to 40.
The amount of warmth taken away by ghost freeze is increased to 30.
SOCIAL RANK: We’ve decided to implement some changes to the social ranking system in an attempt to improve the system so that it is more accurate and to better reduce toxicity.
All players will revert back to the bronze social rank once a month.
The amount of reputation points a player needs to reach higher social ranks has been adjusted to reflect this change.
Players receive reputation points for staying in Basic and Normal matches to completion, whether that player is alive or dead.
Thumbs up have been replaced by commendations.
Commendations can be given at the end of a match and grant the receiver reputation points, the same as a thumbs up.
Commendation categories are Friendly, Good Teacher, Good Leader, and Master of Deceit.
Players cannot give commendations to the same player more than twice per day.
Commendation counts do not reset during monthly social rank resets.
Players must have at least 25 total commendations to advance to the silver rank, and at least 50 total commendations to advance to the gold rank.
Players can only give one type of commendation per match.
Commendations cannot be given during Custom matches.
Commendations are displayed on your player profile.
Players can view the commendation counts and leave ratios of other players in their lobby by selecting their lobby entry.
BALANCE CHANGES:
Default role distribution in Normal and Blackout matches is adjusted to reflect the role changes.
The maximum number of Defectors in a match is increased to 2.
The maximum number of Scouts in a match is increased to 3.
Buttons for teleporting to other players while playing as a ghost have been remapped to account for being able to pick up/put down items.
Megablizzard incoming message has been reworded
Navigation to lobby sorting options on controller has been changed so they can be reached with Y
Melee weapons excluding the torch will now show the minimum damage to the closest multiple of 5 that's lower.
BUG FIXES:
Fixed report form navigation on controller for the other toggle showing an input field
Fixed issue with caching rewards causing rewards to never update.
Fixed player report form having no navigation
Fixed dead body proximity music not playing for resurrected roles that should have dead body proximity music
Fixed an issue where custom settings for min/max traitor values were not handled correctly.
Fixed issue where player ranks weren't showing up correctly in lobby as well as in game over screen and in commendation block

In this update we’ve made some changes to our reporting, ranking and lobby systems to help improve player experience - both new and veterans. This is the first phase to enhance player experience and we look forward to hearing your feedback!
We also added in a completely new mode - Practice Mode! A playground to learn the in and outs of Project Winter! This single player mode will allow you to play through a match and try out different roles and items at your own pace!
NEW FEATURES & GENERAL CHANGES:
A report button has been added to the dropdown menu when selecting a player’s entry in the lobby
In-game reports on console and controller have check boxes for report reasons
Lobby hosts can bar red ranks from joining their lobbies
Bronze, silver, and gold players get a free cosmetics crate every week
A player’s early leave ratio is displayed on their player profile
Health, warmth, and hunger bars now more clearly show buffs and debuffs to your stats
The amount of times a player has killed other players is listed on their player profile.
This value is only tracked after this update --your kills before the update aren’t there, sorry!
Players can vote to kick other players out of a match after a match has begun
If a player is kicked out of a match, all players remaining do not gain any SP or artifacts from the rest of that match
Players with red ranks cannot vote kick
Practice mode has been added
Practice mode is a single-player way to play through a match of Project Winter and try out different items and roles
BALANCE CHANGES:
In-game reports will not affect your social ranking unless the reporter leaves a comment
Loading screen tips have been added RE: reporting players
Players have to wait 20 seconds before rejoining a lobby they have just left
Currency gain is increased for silver and gold ranks, and decreased for red and bright red ranks.
Red ranks must wait until their most recent match has ended before joining a new one
Frequently quitting games while you are still alive lowers your social rank
“Results” tab in the match over screen has been renamed to “upvotes”, and players’ social ranks are visible there
Text has been added to the your player profile explaining the rewards/penalties for your current rank
Using ranged weapons or throwing items while using a controller has been improved
Tips have been added for new players regarding the weather, objectives, and ranged weapons
All new player tips show up 3 times total instead of just once

NEW FEATURES & GENERAL CHANGES:
The Innocent role has been removed and replaced with the “Scout” role:
Scouts can use traitor hatches
When using a radio Scouts will see where other players transmitting with the same color radio are on the map
Changes to Traitors:
When using a radio standard traitors can now see where other players transmitting with the same color radio are on the map. This includes both red traitor radios and other colour radios if they decide to use them
Traitor hacker has been removed, and all traitors can now open bunkers with traitor credits
All Traitors can open the truth serum lab and armory with traitor credits
Traitors can “repair and sabotage with delay” an objective, which repairs an objective and automatically sabotages it after a period of time
Traitors can sabotage the fireplace so the cabin will not restore heat until it is repaired with wood
Traitors can sabotage a bunker to guarantee that a wolf will come out of it when the bunker is opened
Traitors must now purchase items from traitor crates using traitor credits. Items in traitor drops remain the same and are not required to be purchased
Changes to Hackers:
Hackers no longer need electronic scrap to open bunkers
Hackers can open the truth serum lab and armory with electronic scrap
Changes to Detective:
Detectives can investigate traitor crates to potentially deduce who opened them
Detectives can use trap disarm kits to see who placed the traps they disarm
Detectives and ID Thieves now hear a jazzy theme song when they approach a dead body
Added the ability to choose map in Custom Mode
BALANCE CHANGES:
Changes to Poison:
Poison’s effects are now delayed after consuming or interacting with a poisoned object
A player who poisons another player sees a timer over the poisoned player’s head counting down to when their poison takes effect
Poisoned items now stack with non-poisoned items of the same type
Poison and poisoned crossbow bolts cause the player to lose heat in addition to their other effects
Player gets a message on the global events banner when poison takes effect
Poisonings and the identity of the poisoner are shown on the timeline at the end of a match
Changes to Traitors:
Traitors can see what bunkers have been broken and/or sabotaged with a wolf
The bonus objective “repair objective” has been added
Traitors gain proximity credits (credits from being around other players) faster
Traitors gain more credits from opening traitor crates than they did before
Defector starts the game with their ability 50% charged
Soldiers take 20% less damage from wild animals
All unlock stations must now be activated to open a wolf bunker.
The truth serum lab and armory proximity text has subtitles that explain those locations in more detail
The player’s current role is highlighted on the roles list
Players can view the roles list from the pause menu
Players using a controller can view HUD tooltips by pressing down on the D-pad.
Players get a system message in the text chat at the beginning of the game telling them where they can get more information on their role
Changed “Radio Station” and “Hydro Station” objective text to “Power Station” to match the name on the building and avoid confusion
Removed sabotage option from armory consoles and lab consoles
Increased the rematch timer to 60 seconds
BUG FIXES:
Keyboard settings pop ups no longer have a button automatically selected.
Key binding is now moved a bit to the bottom and will no longer appear behind the message.
Stopping the mouse from triggering any mouse events when it's invisible

Updated the collision on the argo so it would block ragdolls from going under the ramp.
Fixed a bug where when the player is right next to a collider (think of the wall of a building) and the throw animation moves the arm through the collider, the release point is on the opposite side of the collider than the player is and nothing prevents it from releasing inside of the collider.
Fixed issue with the animal corpses not spawning.
Fixed an issue with the animals getting stuck and rotating weird on uneven ground.
Added code so we cannot drop items through colliders.

A new map has been added in the rotation that may bring some uphill battles and high level gameplays to your Project Winter experience. Be extra careful of who you trust as this map gives a whole new meaning to having a “ride or die” friend!
NEW FEATURES & GENERAL CHANGES:
Introducing a new map:
The cabin is located on the northernmost tile rather than in the center, overlooking the rest of the map from an elevated position
Two options for accessing the rest of the map from the cabin: a gondola that provides rapid transport to the southernmost tile, or a narrow ramp that descends the cliffside to the immediate area below the cabin
New gameplay dynamics, with the first objective now being located outside the southern gondola station rather than around the cabin and the ability for traitors to delay the gondola via sabotage
Two new main tile variations for the existing normal mode maps which alter the positions of trees, rocks, etc. surrounding the cabin
Text chat can now be used in pregame lobbies, which also logs messages when players join, leave or get kicked
Players can now only upvote the same player once per day at the end of a match
Snow trails will now disappear much faster when a blizzard event is active
Updated naming of bonus objectives to "bonus challenges" and adjusted their scale on the UI to better emphasize the importance of the primary escape objectives
When initiating the escape vehicle countdown, if a survivor is the last remaining player alive, the vehicle will now leave immediately instead of waiting for the countdown
Added sound effect that plays when sending or receiving messages via text chat to better draw attention to it

Updated crossplay icon visuals to help them read better

BALANCE CHANGES:
Traitor radio jamming ability no longer jams red radio channel
Identity Thieves now gain access to the red radio channel when stealing a traitor role
All deployed traps (bear traps, landmines, tripwires) now have a 3 second grace period before the deployer can activate them (previously only on the bear trap)
Tripwires will now slow the player who triggered them by 50% for 10 seconds
Tripwires can now be used to trap crates
Tripwires and alarm traps will now trigger their alarm when activated via the Trap Disarm Kit
Reduced duration of bear traps on polar bears
Explosive crossbow bolts no longer cause players to ragdoll
Survivor airdrop will now always appear away from the cabin
Reduced activation time for ice wall consoles from 3 seconds to 1 second
Removed "don't deal damage with tools" bonus challenge and replaced with individual challenges for not using a single type of tool
Players will now drop batteries if holding one when teleported by the Solar Flare event
Basic mode has its own drop tables for crates, to help reduce the need for crafting (Crates include: Berries, Cooked Animal Meat, Potpie, First Aid Kit, Axe, Pick Axe, Sickle, Campfire Kit, Bear Trap, Shotgun)
Animals drop additional meat when killed.
BUG FIXES:
Fixed aiming reticle missing for cloned players when aiming ranged weapons at a valid target
Fixed issues with targeting other players on controller while aiming a ranged weapon if there were any items in the path between the player and target
Fixed armory icon not being shown on map for a cloned soldier in certain cases
Fixed certain cases where game may not end if multiple players disconnect simultaneously

After a well-deserved holiday break we are back with another update. Although somewhat small due to holidays and with us being busy pushing out our newly announced Xbox builds, we still managed to pack in some special surprises!

Reduced pool of available bonus objectives in Basic Mode and reduced requirements for repair material crafting objectives and destroy signs objective
Reduced points for Identity Thief bonus objective from 1000 to 600
Updated “hunt and kill X animals” bonus objective to requirements of 1, 3 or 5 instead of 3 or 5 and change points awarded to 100, 300 and 500 respectively
Reduced points penalty for survivors damaging other survivors from -20 per 100 damage to -5 per 100 damage, and increased penalty for survivors killing other survivors from -100 to -250
BUG FIXES:
Fixed issue where progression trees could become locked on subsequent launches after unlocking and purchasing an item
Fixed issue where if several players disconnected around the same time, the may not have ended when a game over condition was met
Fixed issue where players repeatedly interacting with a bunker console could cause the bunker to open without all consoles being activated
Fixed issue where ghosts could be able to spam their fire or feast abilities
Fixed certain cases where flickering could be observed on certain areas of the UI
Fixed escape vehicle not blocking gunshots and allowing players to be shot from the opposite side while boarding
