Hello Survivors!

Today we have some exciting news. A new game mode! We are introducing a Basic Mode for new players learning the game and for seasoned players who want more simplified gameplay. The mode will include shorter rounds, a smaller map, a simplified ruleset, and no additional roles.

For those who like to spice things up, we also added more to the custom game mode! Enjoy a wealth of choices for how you want to enjoy your Project Winter experience. Have less than 5 players, control escape vehicle capacities, timer limits, a larger range for the number of traitors in the game, and so much more!

NEW FEATURES & GENERAL CHANGES
Basic Mode added! This is a new game mode designed to help first-time players ease into the main game mode or provide an alternative for veterans looking for a more fast-paced, streamlined game mode. It includes the following features:

  • 15 minute rounds
  • Smaller four-quadrant map
  • Repair objectives only
  • No additional roles (survivor and traitor only)
  • Only blizzard global events
  • No armory or truth serum lab
  • Reduced pool of bonus objectives
  • Reduced set of crafting recipes available
  • Advanced items (combat stimulants, flares, etc.) no longer appear in crates

Custom Game changes:
  • Minimum player limit for starting a match is now disabled for custom matches (players will not be eligible to earn points when playing with fewer than 5 or with no traitors)
  • Minimum/maximum traitor sliders can now be set from 0 to 7, respectively (note these settings may be ignored to ensure one survivor is always present in the match)
  • Game duration slider can now be set as low as 15 minutes
  • Added new settings for disabling the truth serum lab or armory
  • Added new setting for controlling whether berry bushes should respawn
  • Added new settings for changing the traitor airdrop timers
  • Added new setting for controlling escape vehicle capacity
  • Added new setting to control whether power lines leading to second objective should be visible or not
  • Custom game settings for the current match can now be viewed from the in-game ESC menu
  • Hovering over the custom game icon in lobby browser will now only reveal settings that are changed (to make it easier to read)
  • Updated various parts of the main menu play tab UI to go along with the addition of basic mode:
  • Lobby browser now allows players to select a preferred game mode, which will display its description on the left and sort all lobbies of that type to the top of the browser window
  • The host game and quick match buttons will now display a new game mode selection screen to specify which type of lobby you want to create or join
  • The lobby screen design has been updated to be colour-coded based on the game mode of the lobby
  • Removed option for Classic Mode on host game popup. This can still be played via a custom game with player roles disabled and all other settings left unchanged
  • Locked lobby filter option in lobby browser now saves and persists between matches and subsequent launches of the game
  • Added new cosmetic rarity colour for items purchased with artifacts, and improved cosmetic sorting to show newest items first for each rarity tier
  • Improved UI for showing when escape vehicle has been sabotaged via the cabin radio
  • Players speaking over the proximity voice channel will now have their indicators in the lower left fade based on their distance from your player
  • Added crafting recipe item icons to tooltips of items that can be crafted or cooked
  • Added additional messaging on the repair objectives UI to better inform new players of how to repair them
  • Added new location indicators for most buildings and removed location indicators for environmental areas
  • Mega blizzard notifications text updated to show timer and better indicate the mega blizzard is not immediately starting
  • Updated visuals of tutorial page of game guide and removed video tutorial
  • Added new message to the launch splash screens to emphasize that voice communication is recommended for playing the game
  • Refreshed gameplay tips that appear on loading screen and reduced the time it takes for them to cycle
  • Improved security for voice chat features

BALANCE CHANGES:
  • Increased radius of effect for hot springs activation and sabotage
  • Increased number of seats removed from sabotaging the escape vehicle for lower survivor counts

BUG FIXES:
  • Fixed dying in areas where warmth changes at different rate (cabin, in water, etc.) continuing to apply if player is cloned later in the match
  • Fixed issue where player’s items could darken and briefly becoming unusable if a ghost player disconnected under certain circumstances
  • Fixed various areas where alternate keybinds weren’t being scaled for correctly on the UI
  • Fixed various issues with controller navigation and button colours not being consistent with the rest of the UI
  • Fixed solar flare audio not stopping if game ends while it’s triggering
  • Fixed dragged player corpses being released too easily
  • Fixed text elements not appearing on radial wheel when running at 4K resolution
  • Fixed odd behavior of animals patrolling near steep slopes in the terrain (notably a bear near the canyon)
  • Fixed host game popup being left on screen after an invite was accepted, if it was enabled
  • Fixed menu screen becoming black if disconnection occurs during fade-out to playable tutorial
  • Fixed investigate option showing on player corpses when roles are not enabled (as this provides no information unless there can be a detective present)
  • Fixed points earned or lost for stealing resources from repair consoles awarding double the intended value
  • Fixed players killed via bridge sabotage awarding points for survivors stopped in addition to survivors killed for the sabotaging traitor
  • Fixed issue where player could be teleported into and trapped in a tree from solar flare event
  • Fixed various map issues where players could get stuck in terrain or animals would behave improperly
  • Fixed sabotaging cabin radio incrementing the “escapes called” stat
  • Fixed issue where being downed while dragging a body was not releasing the body from being dragged for other clients
  • Fixed cases where players could get stuck on a bridge that was repaired after a sabotage
  • Fixed first-aid kits counting as crafted items rather than cooked items on stats page
  • Fixed non-recyclable items not returning to correct colour when recycle mode is disabled
  • Fixed traitors not receiving additional points for sabotaging an objective more than once
  • [Blackout] Fixed issue where druid fire was too bright when player was near it as a ghost
  • [Blackout] Fixed portal animation not resetting properly for players who’ve escaped and returned to the portal as a ghost

Hello again, survivors.

As you may know, the team recently compiled a list of feedback from the community Discord and put them up to a vote as to which issues are most pressing. Today is the day that we release these changes into the Project Winter wild. We think that many of you will enjoy our most recent update.

As always, we are still listening! We encourage everyone to leave feedback at-will in our community Discord in the #suggestions channel. We will certainly do more feedback round-ups in the future as we strive to make the changes you want to see.

It is official, the outhouse door can now be closed.

In other news, we’ve done our best to even out proximity chat to ensure that players hear each other more consistently while in-range, made some more balance changes, and added a new custom lobby option. Of course, we’ve also scrubbed out a few bugs that were brought to light by the players.

NEW FEATURES & GENERAL CHANGES
  • Custom games can now specify the min and max counts for each type of role in the base game in addition to the min and max traitor counts
  • Custom games settings button in lobby will display an exclamation badge until the next it is pressed if the custom game settings have been updated by the host
  • Adjusted positioning and volume scaling of player proximity voice range. The radius for another player to be heard at max volume has been reduced by 75%, while the scaling is now more gradual so players will be more noticeably quiet at a distance. The positioning has also been adjusted so that players further south will no longer be easier to hear at a distance than players to the north.
  • Backpacks can now be looted from player corpses
  • Added timeline event to indicate which player initiated the escape vehicle leave sequence
  • Added new bonus objective for visiting multiple flag points during a match
  • Tranquilizer gun can now slow animals in addition to players

BALANCE CHANGES
  • Increased points earned for most survivor repair actions (contributing repair parts, digging up items, delivering batteries and opening cipher bunkers)
  • Increased threshold for ”survive and take less than X damage from players” bonus objective from 600 to 1000 damage
  • Increased reward for “survive and take less than X damage from players”, “survive without dealing damage with ranged weapons or explosives” and “survive without dealing damage with tools” bonus objectives from 400 to 500 survivor points
  • Reduced tranquilizer gun ammo count from 5 to 3, reduced damage to 0, increased aiming speed by 100%, increased tranquilized effect duration to 20 seconds and increased slow from 50% to 60% of based speed
  • Increased pieces of information revealed for Detective on investigation screen from 3 to 5
  • Reduced traitor credits cost for cabin radio sabotage from 10 to 5
  • Proximity traitor credits meter will now begin to drain after being out of range of survivors for several seconds rather than immediately emptying

BUG FIXES
  • Fixed issue where animals could occasionally move at much higher speeds than normal if the host of a lobby disconnects mid-game
  • Fixed issue where players muted in a lobby would sometimes not remain muted after loading into a match or after leaving and rejoining the lobby
  • Fixed issue where melee weapons could sometimes not be equipped after being looted from a player corpse
  • Fixed issue where minimap could remain visible after solar flare event teleport if player enters cabin just prior to teleport occurring
  • Fixed neutral role players awarding “survivors stopped” points if the game ends while they are still alive
  • Fixed custom game settings button in lobby not adjusting position after clicking on another player in the lobby and seeing the player options dropdown
  • Fixed error message that could appear after cancelling out of the custom game settings screen from the host game popup and then reopening it
  • Fixed various issues with controller navigation
  • Fixed several issues where player could clip into or get stuck in environment objects
  • Fixed apply and revert buttons being visible on custom game settings screen when pressed from within a lobby while not the host of the lobby
  • Fixed cases where damage to animals may not be reflected correctly if the host has disconnected
  • Fixed issues with ordering of certain popups on main menu
  • Fixed player count in lobby sometimes not reflecting the correct number of players
  • Fixed traitor credits indicator remaining visible for dead traitors cloned into survivors
  • Fixed issue where items on breakable bridges would sometimes not fall after bridge was sabotage
  • Fixed particle effects on items being briefly visible where the item was previously positioned if it was dropped in one location, picked up and then equipped in a different one
  • [Blackout] Fixed issue where Whisperer converts would not correctly join the red radio channel if they were converted while already holding a radio and later dropped it

Survivors, a new research assignment has been sent from the sea labs HQ.

We’ve been tasked with gathering as much intel about the local zone as possible. We’re looking for natural anomalies, landscape features, and an assortment of equipment that has survived the storms.

We’ve annexed a document listing all items of interest below. Each item has a particular value to the labs crew, so different submissions may earn a different amount of credit to the participant.

Participants are required to capture photos of as many priority items as possible at once. The more items captured in one image, the higher value the image is worth.

Rules

  • Community guidelines still apply
  • Participants must follow the community guidelines, failing to do so will disqualify you from the event. Find them here.
  • All event submissions must be through an in-game screenshot.
  • No alternate forms of submission will be accepted.
  • 3 screenshot limit
  • You may delete submitted screenshots to resubmit one with a higher score.
  • Participants’ Steam account must be linked to their Discord Account.
    Exceptions can be made, direct message RedFive (thomas4good#4074) on discord.
  • All screenshots must be taken in a standard, non-custom, public game of Project Winter.
  • Screenshots must be unique
  • You cannot take more than 1 screenshot per game.
  • You cannot submit screenshots with identical inventories
  • You cannot score multiple stacks of duplicate items in the same screenshot.
  • Tie breakers
  • Images must be submitted before this time, Sept 11, 2020.

All tie breakers are solved by choosing the submissions with the most amount of
time left until the mega blizzard.

Participants will be rewarded for the following categories.

  1. Highest value single photo: 10,000 SP, 50 Artifacts
  2. Labs’ choice awards: 10,000 SP, 50 Artifacts
  3. Highest value sum of all three submissions: 25,000 SP, 100 Artifacts, ONE free copy and DLC for a friend

Greetings again, survivors!

We're back with another feedback roundup. Considering recent requests in our suggestions channels, we have rounded up some of the most voted suggestions and posted them as stickied comments in this Reddit thread. You can vote on which we should implement next by upvoting those comments, or you can post new suggestions as your own comment in this thread.

We're looking for feedback on which points of interest we should address next. Feel free to discuss using replies for each or any suggestion. These would be balance changes, bug fixes, and existing feature tweaks, no real brand new features.

NOTE: Many of the suggestions left in the suggestion channels are considered, but this process is to find the most popular requests based on the community's thoughts and not our own.

We'll leave this thread open for the week, and tally the results next Monday (Aug 24).

We've heard your concerns, and we've been slaving over spreadsheets to bring you a highly requested change to our points systems.

We've altered point gains to better reflect the contributions of a player during their match, including types of escape, objectives, and new categories as well. Likewise, we've buffed a few aspects of the Traitor role as well.

As always, we want to thank any players who posted their feedback and suggestions to our official discord. We've been doing our best to funnel your feedback into our development timeline, and we hope we've addressed some of the more recent concerns.

August 12th, 2020 Update

NEW FEATURES & GENERAL CHANGES:
  • Scoring system changes: points earned during a match will now better reflect a player’s contributions, with specific categories added for each escape type, better tracking for the basic repair objective and several other new categories added along with changes to the points awarded for existing categories.
  • All traitors will now passively earn traitor credits while in proximity to non-traitor players, scaling with the number of players the traitor is near and represented by a new charge ring around the traitor credits icon in the upper left of the HUD. If the traitor is no longer in the vicinity of any non-traitor players, the charge will reset to 0 after several seconds.
  • Emote wheel has been updated to allow players to construct basic phrases and send them via text chat in addition to displaying emotes
  • Removed virtual cursor and improved support for menu navigation with a controller
  • Adjusted appearance timing of cabin map indicator to after player has exited the cabin to better draw attention to it
  • Added prompts for new players to encourage playing Classic Mode their first few games for better onboarding
  • Various performance optimizations for lower-end machines

BALANCE CHANGES:
  • Increased movement speed penalty while aiming explosive crossbow to match other crossbow items (from 10% to 60% max speed penalty)
  • Increased cost for crafting radios: now requires 2 mechanical scrap in addition to 2 electronics scrap
  • Increased difficulty of animal wave objective (more animals will now appear)
  • Notification for departed escapes will now list the total number of remaining players instead of only the remaining survivors
  • The escape pod global event will now only occur after at least 15 minutes have elapsed during a match
  • Increased duration animals are passive following solar flare teleport from 12 seconds to 20 seconds
  • [Blackout] The Whisperer and their converts now have access to the red radio channel

BUG FIXES:

  • Fixed issue where number of roles in a match could exceed the max number displayed in the roles menu in matches with first-time players
  • Fixed cases where solar flare event could cause multiple players to teleport to the same location
  • Fixed ghosts of players who had escaped being able to be cloned if the player the Scientist was attempting to clone had left the game already
  • Fixed ghosts channel voice chat breaking if the player toggles between radio channels as a ghost while using the voice-activated transmission mode
  • Fixed camera reverting to default view after being cloned and exiting the cloning machine if the player’s ghost was in the main truth serum lab area
  • Fixed numbering for the objectives listed on the match loading screen when language is set to Portueguse
  • Fixed location indicators not immediately starting their pulse animations when appearing on-screen
  • Fixed movement speed reduction not reverting if player hits a landmine when exiting the hydro station and the camera switches while ragdolled
  • Fixed time of death on investigation menu not updating correctly under certain cases (player disconnecting or dying without being damaged by another player)
  • Fixed case aiming a ranged weapon looted from your original body as a clone could cause the aim to be stuck in one direction
  • Fixed armory icon on cabin map not being revealed when an identity thief steals a soldier’s role or a player becomes a traitor after the first objective has been repaired
  • Fixed issue where getting ragdolled while deploying an item would cause your item to not be properly re-equipped after the ragdoll effect finishes

Elementary, my dear Traitor

Beware, survivors. This body is still warm... There's a killer about. It appears the weapon of choice was a pickaxe.

Grab your thinking caps and fanciest pipes; this newest role should add some more depth to your survival strategies. Welcome the newest role: The Detective!

Players can now examine player corpses to reveal details about their death. For most players, these details will be hidden. For the Detective, however, three of the seven available details will be revealed. Use this to investigate and deduce information about the killer on the loose!

FEATURES AND GENERAL CHANGES

  • Bonus objectives overhaul: all objectives for survivors and traitors are now chosen from a generic pool of approximately 30 objectives, with no class-specific limitations. Various existing objectives have been removed and replaced with more neutral and gameplay-focused objectives. The Yeti will now choose from a subset of these objectives, and will no longer have the chance to share the same objective as another player.
  • New cabin radio sabotage ability: when the escape is available to be called at the radio, traitors can now spend 10 credits to sabotage it, reducing the number of seats available by 50%. This can be done for both the first and second escape vehicles.
  • New cabin signpost sabotage ability: traitors can now sabotage the signposts pointing to the cabin for 1 credit, causing them to spin and point in a different direction.
  • Mechanics for red radios updated: red radios are no longer a physical item, instead being usable by traitors while they are not carrying a blue or yellow radio. When a radio item is added to the radio slot, the traitor will be disconnected from the red radio channel and join the new colour channel instead, and vice-versa when the radio item is removed.
  • Increased timer duration from 1 minute to 5 minutes for first objective indicator that appears after visiting map, and change indicator icon to match icon shown on map
  • Increased outfit set slots from 5 to 10
  • Reduced cooldown for ghost teleport from 3 seconds to 1 second



BALANCE CHANGES
  • Increased damage from bear area-of-effect attack from 50 to 200
  • Identity Thief will no longer appear in games started with 5 players
  • Traitors will now see the survivor roles menu as soon as the game starts instead of after the objective UI is revealed

BUG FIXES
  • Fixed crashes and slowdown related to “d3d11: failed to lock buffer ...” errors from previous Unity version
  • Fixed issue where charging a punch, releasing it and swapping to a deployable item on the same frame could cause your character to get stuck in the deploying animation
  • Fixed text in reasons dropdown on player report screen not being localized
  • Fixed case where bunker could spawn with code console visible when the cipher objective was not present
  • Fixed issue where dropping a held item while interacting with a bunker console could cause the item to disappear
  • Fixed password toggle not resetting properly in host lobby popup if popup was closed while it was it was enabled
  • Fixed pulse animation missing when repair objective location indicator is displayed
  • Fixed various cosmetic clipping issues
  • [Blackout] Fixed escape vehicle having a maximum capacity of 6 instead of 7

Greetings once again, survivors.

We decided it was time for some additions to the survivors’ arsenal. Our latest update comes with a “new bag of tricks” to play with. This brand new set of items can be found like others, and offer a variety of tactics to survivors and traitors alike. Experiment with them and expand your playstyle!

As usual, we’ve taken your feedback into consideration and made a few notable balance changes that we hope will make each game feel a bit better.

In other news, we’ve integrated Discord with our lobby system! Players can now post invites to their game lobbies as a Discord message through the app or overlay. Likewise, the engineering team has been hard at work fixing up issues, some of which were found and reported by you. We thank you for your continued support as we iron out the wrinkles.

FEATURES AND CHANGES

  • New item: Explosive Crossbow. Can be found exclusively in the armory and from the loot drop event crate. Fires bolts that explode on impact, damaging and ragdolling players within range.
  • New item: Flare. Can be crafted or found in bunker crates. When thrown will ignite and display a location marker for all players at its position for two minutes.
  • New item: Quick Disarm Kit. Can be crafted (3 per recipe) or found in bunker crates. If a player is holding one in their inventory when stepping in a bear trap, it will be consumed and significantly reduce the duration of the trap.
  • New item: Stimulants. Can be found in bunker crates. When consumed, temporarily increases your movement speed and physical damage by 15% for 30 seconds before decreasing them by 20% for 15 seconds after the primary effect wears off.
  • New item: Tripwire. Can be crafted (2 per recipe) or found in bunker crates. When deployed, will sound an alarm and display a location indicator for 10 seconds to players in the vicinity. Can also be used to trap interactable objects to trigger the same effect the next time they’re interacted with.
  • Added support for sending game invites through Discord. Host or join a lobby, and switch back to Discord/Open Discord overlay. You should now see a green play icon next to the (+) button on the left side of your Discord chat bar.
  • Added a new tutorial prompt on the results screen to explain the social ranking system
  • Fuel can now be used to restore warmth for campfires (with an explosive side-effect!)
  • Main menu progression tab now uses your character to display the progression items instead of fixed body types
  • Community guidelines on main menu are now localized for all supported languages
  • Added Turkish and Greek language support




BALANCE
  • “Overload a cooperative console X times” bonus objective requirements reduced to 1-2 from 2-3, and reward increased by 50%
  • Shotgun damage will now be reduced by up to 50% based on the distance a target is from the shooter
  • Bear traps now have a three-second timer when placed before they will be able to trap the player who placed them
  • Reduced frequency of gun parts in non-armory bunker crates
  • Reduced frequency of guns in traitor airdrops and increased frequency of gun parts

Greetings, survivors!

We are very pleased to announce our first anniversary celebration! Today marks one whole year of Project Winter, and as a thank you to our players, everyone will be receiving a free 20,000 Survivor Points in-game! If you log in between now and midnight, Tuesday, May 26, you can receive your reward through the in-game announcement. Be sure to log in before Tuesday at midnight! The award will only be available until then.

In addition to this award, we are going to be holding a very special event.



All players are eligible to enter into our Best of the Year contest! Each player will be allowed to submit one clip that is no longer than 30 seconds in length to our official Discord in the #winter-events channel.

Once submitted, any and all players may vote for their favorite clips using Discord react feature. At the end of the event (Midnight, Tuesday, May 26), voting will end and be tallied by members of our community management team. The 3 clips with the highest number of votes will each receive an additional 500 artifacts in-game to spend however they like!

There are no criteria for submitted videos. They can be funny, action-packed, clever, or all-around supportive of the Project Winter spirit! Choose your clip wisely, as your peers will be choosing by their own accord!

An additional three prizes will be given out as a developers' choice award! Our team will choose another 3 submitted clips as our favorites, and award those players with their own 500 artifacts. Winning clips are still eligible for the developers' choice award! If you submit something really special, you could walk away with a total 1000 artifacts!
