March 18th, 2020 Build v1.1.13064 - The ‘Identity Crisis’ Update
Happy Late Paddy’s Day! It's time to roll out our latest Project Winter update: Identity Crisis!
Along with the main changes listed below, we also bring you new cosmetics, refreshed in-game and Steam store items, as well as a myriad of balancing tweaks and bug fixes.
NEW FEATURES & GENERAL CHANGES:
New role! The Identity Thief. Embrace your thieving instincts! As the Identity Thief, you begin the match with a neutral stance. However, once another player dies, you’ll be able to steal their identity (role) and become it! But, beware! Stealing someone’s role is permanent for the rest of the game.
New objective! The Cipher Station. Work together as a group to crack the code for this new escape task, which joins the rotation of first objectives for the base game.
The survivor airdrop now provides an ability to unlock all bunkers except for the armory and truth serum lab. This will give players a chance to complete the cipher station repairs after they’ve fallen below the required threshold for opening the console bunkers.
Bears have a new area of effect attack that deals light damage and slows affected players for several seconds.
Player role changes over the course of a match can now be tracked on the game over results screen by hovering over any role icons with an asterisk displayed.
Credit for players you’ve killed during a match can now be seen by hovering over the kills score value on the game over score screen.
Players cloned by the scientist will now display either a survivor or traitor-themed event on the timeline rather than a neutral event, depending on what class they revived as.
[Blackout] The animal wave objective can now appear as the first objective in addition to the second (limited to one total per match).
BALANCE CHANGES:
Increased duration animal wave consoles take to repair by 66%.
Increased difficulty of animal waves for both first and second objectives.
Sabotaging a first objective animal wave console will now cause its progress to partially reset, for up to 3 sabotages (to match the first objective repair console requiring additional parts).
NEW COSMETICS:
BUG FIXES:
Fixed issue where players kicked from a lobby could rejoin by accepting an invite from a friend in the lobby
Fixed issue where players without the Blackout DLC were able to join Blackout lobbies by accepting an invite from a friend in the lobby
Fixed “reveal escape” traitor airdrop ability not showing indicator in some cases
Fixed case where multiple armory icons could appear on cabin map
Fixed snowmen damage sfx sounding like rocks instead of snow
Fixed issue where animal wave console could spawn on hot springs tile and not correctly spawn animals when activated
Fixed “use” control prompt appearing to the right of inventory slots for items that have no primary action (logs, scrap, etc.)

[Blackout] Fixed Yeti not receiving artifacts for completed games
[Blackout] Fixed Medium promoted to Whisperer still being able to see ghosts

We’re back with another update for you! This time around we focused mostly on adding a new role, plus updating some of the existing ones as a first step to make them more effective towards the overall goal of creating mayhem and paranoia.
Alongside these changes, we also bring you the regular monthly items and a special treat for those of you who have been with us since we launched, in the form of a couple of ‘One Year Anniversary’ Items, ready to be claimed. To find them, simply go to the Announcements UI on the main menu, check the Anniversary announcement and collect them.
As usual, a big Thank You goes out to our community for being amazing and continuing to support us.
We hope you enjoy the update, see you out there!
Happy Valentines!
GENERAL CHANGES:
New Role! The Mad Scientist: If I could choose, I'd resurrect you ❤️. The Scientist is able to bring a player back from the dead, provided he/she has their heart. Simply put the heart into the ‘cloning’ machine in the truth serum lab and watch the aborrent process take place. Just be careful… sometimes, death is better. (This role is available to both survivors and traitors, with a maximum of one Scientist per game.)
Medic ability revamp: The targeted heal has been replaced with an area of effect pulse that will revive anyone in the vicinity of the Medic when used. Be warned, however, that for each player revived you will suffer a permanent max health penalty. (Stitcher role also shares these changes, and has been renamed to Medic for clarity.)
Survivor version of Hacker role: Rather than using traitor credits to open a bunker alone, they require electronic scrap.
Soldier role overhaul: The Soldier no longer has an ability that will reveal the armory location upon charge-up. Instead, they will now see the location of the armory on the cabin map after the first objective has been repaired, and will be required to operate a new console at the armory in order to open it. Be warned, however, as traitors can both see the armory location and operate this console as well.
Ability charging revamp for all base game roles: Abilities will now be fully charged and available to use at the beginning of a game. After use, they will now recharge passively over time and no longer require actions to be performed to gain charge.
Various optimizations to improve performance on lower-end machines
NEW STEAM ITEMS: We are swapping out the current Steam Store items and replacing them with this set:
BALANCE CHANGES:
Probability for Innocent role has been decreased
The medic role can now appear a maximum of two times in a match instead of three. This can be either as two survivor medics, or a survivor medic and a traitor medic.
Increased health of animals for the combat wave objective
BUG FIXES:
Fixed defector role ability icon appearing if playing as a role with no ability while another player disconnects while still alive
Fixed issue with player roles distribution, where players who joined a lobby first would be more likely to receive certain roles
Fixed criteria for player kill tracking: now takes time into account, so damage dealt will only be considered for several minutes before a player has died
Fixed “survivors escaped” game over message appearing when game ends on a sabotaged escape pod
Fixed traitor who sabotaged an escape pod not always receiving credit for the kill
Fixed bear kills being tallied twice at the end of a match (for stats tracking)
Fixed several issues with player deaths tracking for stats screen
Fixed issue where dead animals could appear standing for other players
Fixed tooltip on escape tasks UI getting stuck and following mouse if game loses focus while it’s visible

It’s officially been one year since Project Winter was launched into Early Access! We’d like to give a massive thank you to all of the players and fans over this past year, whether you enjoy watching your favourite streamer play, or if you betray your friends on a daily basis, THANK YOU! We’ve come a long way since Project Winter looked like this…
We’ve had a great first year, from entering Early Access as a relatively unknown game, to showcasing Project Winter at DreamHack Dallas and Tokyo Game Show, and finally to the end of the year when we were voted as the second best Canadian made game in 2019 by Canadian Game Devs. We are excited to keep it going in 2020 by bringing you more content and bringing Project Winter to brand new heights!
As a special thank you to our player base, we will be gifting all current players with an exclusive item in celebration of our one year anniversary. This item will be released in an upcoming update, keep your eyes peeled for it!
Today we bring you another stability and bug fixing update:
We’ve made some general changes such as an update to the lag mitigation mechanic (see below for details) as well as some balancing changes like limiting the possibility of animal wave objectives to one per match only, among many others.
We’ve also fumigated the code and eliminated a fair amount of bugs while we were at it. See below for all the juicy details.
Thank you, Community! We hope you enjoy this update.
GENERAL CHANGES:
“Recent Players” list on Steam will now be populated at the start of each match played
Holiday decorations removed (by popular demand, the snowmen will remain outside the cabin)
Updates to lag mitigation mechanic: for more clarity on when a melee attack has successfully landed, all players will now receive immediate feedback when hitting another player in the form of an impact sparks visual and a weapon hit sound effect. If the attack is correctly registered by the player being hit, the blood visuals and pain sound will then play. The radius for valid hits has also been increased by 60% to make this mechanic more forgiving for players with average latency.
BALANCE CHANGES:
Animal wave objective will now be limited to one per match
Survivor roles will now be sorted on the traitor HUD element so they no longer correspond to the players list seen on the exile or esc menu players screen
[Blackout] Increased the number of points the yeti receives for completing their objective
[Blackout] Batteries for collection objective will no longer spawn on the traitor island
NEW STEAM STORE ITEMS:
Once more, we’re refreshing our Steam store items along with the update. This time around we have 7 new items and their color variations:
BUG FIXES:

Fixed bonus objective requiring players to be trapped by landmines not working (has been replaced with a “deal X damage with landmines” objective, for added clarity)

Fixed checkmark not appearing on “help open truth serum bunker” bonus objective when completed
Fixed case where entering the snowball fight on the main menu and immediately leaving the lobby could cause the camera to remain zoomed in and your character to become invisible until toggling away and back to the play tab
Fixed spacing of inventory controls UI to the right of the player inventory slots when player has no role ability

Hey everyone, we’re happy to announce the first DLC pack for the game… Project Winter: Blackout. This action packed DLC will bring you everything you need just in time for the spookiest day of the year. This includes a brand new game mode with unique roles for THE traitor, a whole new map that incites even more fear and paranoia, new survivor roles and brand new items and weapons! Project Winter: Blackout is available for download on the Steam store for a price of USD 6.99. Checkout the trailer below.
Key DLC Features
New Game Mode: A twist on the classic Traitor vs Survivors game mode, now there are the Demon and Whisperer roles for the traitor, yes THE traitor. One traitor per game and this game mode focuses on converting survivors to your team. The game is over once all survivors either escape, die or are converted.
New Traitor Roles: Play as either the Demon or the Whisperer.
The Demon: Has the ability to forcefully convert survivors to the traitors team once they are in a downed state.
The Whisperer: slowly converts survivors by infiltrating their midst.
New Map: A brand new map for Supernatural expansion games. Explore a new, smaller, nighttime map with new special locations, interactable objects, and events.
New Survivor Roles: Unlock new Survivor Roles exclusive to the DLC.
Medium: You are able to see but not hear the ghost of any dead players around you. This is a passive ability and any ghosts that are within your range of vision will be automatically visible to you.
Hunter: You are immune to conversion and have a single use ability to reveal a role. Gain charge by gathering resources, looting crates or helping with objectives. Use your charged ability on a player, this will secretly reveal their role to you.
Padre: You have a single use ability to boost one other player. The chosen player will have a significant stat increase but beware! Using the ability on a traitor will give the traitor an even larger boost. Gain charge by looting crates and helping with objectives.
Yeti: As the Yeti, you are immune to conversion and are neither a Survivor nor a Traitor. You can side with either faction or be on your own. Complete your yeti task and escape with the Survivors or stay behind and help the Traitors get rid of the Survivors.
New Items: New Items can be used in the DLC!
Torch: Melee weapon that gives out a small circle of light and regenerates some warmth.
Rosary: Prevents conversion from traitors. Against the Whisperer, it absorbs conversion points, breaking at full capacity. Against the Demon, it repels one conversion attempt and revives from the knockdown, breaks after one use.
Holy Book: Melee weapon that is more effective towards animals during the Witching Hour event.
Gatling Stake Gun: Ranged weapon that is more effective towards animals during the Witching Hour event.
Flash Bang: Lights up the area and blinds the other players for a period of time.
Build Notes:
New pondering animation which plays while using the roles clipboard in the cabin, claiming a bonus objective or looting a corpse
