The Stinkbug may not be as threatening as a venomous arachnid or as icky as a squirming cockroach, but they're still unpleasant to deal with nonetheless.
As the name would imply, the stinkbug stinks, its main deterrent being the acrid secretions it blasts out. These clouds will linger, ticking away at your health and hanging stagnant in the air around the creature.
But fret not! You can harness that stench for yourself, in the palm of your little hands. Slay these creatures and you can fashion their glands into thowable bombs that poison foes with area of effect damage!
Stay tuned next week for another look at what's coming up in the Forbidden Monuments, as we take a deep dive into the new character and creature levelling system.
Few who venture into the Forbidden Monuments come out alive, and with good reason. This is the nesting place of the Blue Tit bird - a colourful creature you may have seen in your garden, but one that takes on a terrifying new aspect when you're a snack-sized Smallfolk!
This is the new apex predator of Smalland: Survive the Wilds. Watch out for its swooping attacks, devastating pecks and brutal area of effect slam.
This is definitely a top boss tier enemy - but unlike other boss creatures, this is one that can be tamed. And if you can tame it, can you fly on it? Yes, you can! Ride on its back and you'll gain fast 360-degree free roaming flight, completely changing how you navigate the Overland.
Don't expect such a reward to come easily though. You'll have to earn it. A creature of this power will not be swayed by something as simple as bait, No, someone spent months learning how to earn the trust of this feathered titan, so you'd better be ready to compensate them for their knowledge...

The Forbidden Monuments update is levelling up how you and your friends will advance in Smalland: Survive the Wilds.
Located at the North of the map, the Forbidden Monuments is a hallowed place in Smallfolk lore, filled with towering remnants of Giant civilisation. What bizarre rituals did they perform here? What is the meaning of the strange relics strewn on the ground?
Smallfolk scholars have debated this for centuries - but you'll have no time to ponder the answers if you brave this high level area.
Ringed by a fence, with an old dead tree in the centre, the Forbidden Monuments offer the most challenging creatures the game has to offer. Stinkbugs will inflict area-of-effect poison attacks, while territorial Blue Tit birds will swoop down and land devastating attacks from above.
And, if the whispers among the Vanguards are true, those may not be your only threats...
Look to one of the area's landmarks to find the latest NPC to join our cast, a new kind of merchant who will grant you the right to flight in a new story chapter that takes the most skilled Smallfolk in a new direction - up!
We've still got lots more surprises coming in this next update, and we hope you'll give a hoot as we reveal more between now and July 20th!
Stay tuned - in our next news story on Wednesday 12th July, we'll reveal more about the fearsome new bird enemy - a fearsome flying foe that changes the game in more ways than one!
Smalland is getting bigger - again! Following on from the Giant's Fall update, we're thrilled to reveal that the next big content update is now only a few weeks away.
Here's what awaits you later this month...
What bizarre rituals did the giants use these strange structures for? What is the meaning of the peculiar relics buried in the ground? And what perils await any Smallfolk brave enough to explore them?
These boss tier airborne enemies will defend their nests without mercy, and only the best equipped and coordinated Smallfolk teams will emerge victorious from the encounter. What rewards await the hardy warriors who manage this feat? Time will tell...
Defeat this rancid new enemy to make use of its unique glands, unlocking Smalland: Survive the Wilds' first throwable weapon. Use stink grenades to stun enemies from a distance and poison them with AOE damage.
We're particularly excited to announce a major overhaul to player progression which adds new long term routes to customise and enhance how you play. Both wild and tamed creatures will now also come in different sizes and strengths, and tamed creatures can be further improved across key attributes.
The Forbidden Monuments Update arrives on July 20th with all of these features, plus new tools, weapons, armour and another NPC to meet, as well as the usual array of ongoing systems improvements under the hood.
Stay tuned through July for more detailed explanations on how each of these headline additions will work together to make Smalland: Survive the Wilds deeper, more challenging and more rewarding.
