This is the second consecutive year that Albion Online has been named Best Indie MMO by the writers at MMORPG.com, recognition of the game’s continued development in a crowded field. The site’s editors had this to say:
This year was a good year for the team at Sandbox Interactive, with multiple updates bringing new content and balancing to the sandbox MMO, from its Crystal Raiders update to the more recent Horizons update which sets things up for 2025. With a great mix of both PvE and PvP content, its player-driven economy, and its interesting setting, Albion Online feels poised to continue to impress into the future.
And Albion Online’s truly cross-platform experience resulted in it winning Best Mobile MMO for the first time:
For many of the reasons listed above as to why it's the best Indie MMO of 2024, bringing all that gameplay to a mobile platform is no easy feat, yet Sandbox Interactive had done so in a way that does not feel like it's a cheapened version or pared down version of its MMORPG. I have drained my phone battery to Albion quite a bit this year, finally getting me more into mobile gaming than before, and I daresay that will continue well into 2025 as the team moves to a faster update cadence with its new seasonal model.
These awards cap a huge 2024 for the game, with four content updates and a new server added, and things are looking bright as we move into 2025 with the Rogue Frontier update. Thanks to the staff at MMORPG.com for their recognition, and thanks to you, the players, for making the game what it is today!

On February 3, the Rogue Frontier update brings Albion Online into a daring new era. At its heart lurk the Smugglers, a new faction that has risen in the chaos of the Outlands. Their covert dens offer sanctuary and opportunity, while their market network weaves a clandestine web of trade. This update calls adventurers to seize fortune in the shadows – will you dare to answer?
Secrets of the Smugglers
Beneath the Outlands lie Smuggler’s Dens – hidden refuges providing city amenities, fresh activities, and access to the Smuggler Markets. These dens offer solo and small-scale adventurers a means to set up base, while the Smuggler’s Network acts as a shadowy Outlands marketplace that rewards resourcefulness and cunning. Smuggler Faction Activities offer a new layer of intrigue: rescue captured smugglers, deliver rare Smuggler Crates, and hunt for Smuggler’s Coins to build your standing with the faction. Meanwhile, the enigmatic trader Maggy Slade offers exclusive rewards, including the Smuggler’s Cape and a brand-new vanity set. Chaos breeds opportunity for those bold enough to grasp it.
Trophies of Triumph
Immortalize your PvP victories with all-new Kill Trophies. Showing off the details of your triumph, these can be displayed for your allies to admire and to make your rivals tremble. Meanwhile, three new Crystal Weapons – the Rotcaller Staff, Skystrider Bow, and Forcepulse Bracers – bring devastating new abilities to the battlefield. The artifacts needed to craft them are rewarded from the current Guild Season, meaning adventurers can wield these powerful armaments as soon as Rogue Frontier launches.
Beyond the Shadows
With the new opportunities opened up by the Smugglers, staying organized has never been more critical. A new Bank Overview streamlines inventory management across personal and guild storage, allowing players to track their possessions from anywhere in one convenient UI. A new Albion Journal category, Creatures, introduces a bestiary challenge, encouraging players to hunt the realm’s wildlife and earn unique vanity items, signifying mastery over Albion’s most fearsome beasts. And new varieties of Dynamic Resource Hotspots create fresh opportunities for Albion’s intrepid gatherers.
With all this and more, Rogue Frontier adds thrilling new depths to Albion. Step boldly into this shadowy world on February 3 and stake your claim to its riches. For more details, visit the official update page here.

This weekend’s Invasion Day marks the start of the double scoring phase, where Season Points count twice as much. With one month remaining in Season 25, this is a critical opportunity for guilds to turn the tide. Here’s how things are shaping up:
Albion Europe: Take Care continues to lead the charge with over 600,000 Season Points, backed by coalition ally Black Order in second place. However, Heralds of Valhalla from their enemy alliance are not far behind, sitting in third and threatening to shake things up. With both coalitions clashing across multiple timers, the final month of the season promises wild twists and high-stakes battles.
Albion Americas: The Americas server has been a bloodbath, with the war between the IFures and HOGs coalitions raging on and causing intense fights across key time slots. Meanwhile, PIVAS has maintained their hold on the top spot with over 750,000 Season Points. The Lonely Men and Make Albion Great Again are neck-and-neck with just over 400,000 points each, setting the stage for a dramatic conclusion.
Albion Asia: On the Asia server, Upper Class continues its steady march to surpass one million Season Points before the year ends, with their current total just shy of 900,000. Malicious Crew sits comfortably in second with nearly 500,000 points, while V U A rounds out the top three at 280,000. While the season has been quieter than expected, the fighting in the outer rings is slowly gaining momentum.

As 2024 winds down, Albion Online stands stronger than ever. From the launch of Albion Europe to an impressive number of game-changing updates, this year has expanded the boundaries of what's possible in Albion. With a new development cycle delivering focused changes every three months, four major updates have changed the landscape of the game. Let’s relive the biggest moments of 2024!
Re-envisioning Guild Warfare
2024 began with Crystal Raiders, shaking up Guild Seasons and introducing new layers of strategy to warfare in the Outlands. This update introduced Territory Raiding, giving smaller groups fresh tactical opportunities, and revamped the Conqueror’s Challenge, offering more pathways to season rewards for both guilds and solo players.
Crystal Weapons made their debut, adding explosive power and new combat strategies. Nine of these weapons have launched so far, and with more on the way, they will continue to bring further possibilities to the battlefield.
Laying the Groundwork
Building on the vision for guild warfare introduced with Crystal Raiders, the Foundations update took things a step further. With Fortifications allowing guilds to bolster their territory defenses, and Siege Banners providing attackers with new ways to counter them, this update added new tactical dimensions to guild battles.
The update also introduced Territory Activity Chests, from which guilds can earn valuable rewards through their activities. However, rivals can raid them to steal the spoils, adding another layer of depth to territory conflict. Overall, Foundations set the stage for even more strategic and engaging guild warfare for seasons to come.
A Global Expansion
In April, Albion Online launched Albion Europe, a server tailored to players in the Europe and MENA regions. This offered players a fresh start, and brought improved connection speeds and optimized event timings, along with language support for Turkish and Arabic.
The results were staggering: daily active users surpassed 350,000 by May 1, breaking the previous record by over 50,000! With more than 150,000 daily players on Albion Europe alone, this was one of the game’s most momentous expansions.
Writing Your Legend
Following the launch of Albion Europe, Paths to Glory introduced the Albion Journal, a personal log for chronicling player adventures. Divided into categories focused on distinct areas of the game, it provides guidance for new adventurers and challenges veterans with fresh objectives to master. Missions grant themed rewards for each category, including exclusive mount skins and vanity items with dazzling effects to show off your achievements.
Dedicated adventurers are already flaunting these rewards, and new categories will continue to appear in future updates, ensuring challenges remain plentiful for a long time to come.
Transforming the Open World
The year closed with Horizons, which brought tougher PvE challenges and reward scaling to reignite the excitement of battle, and quality-of-life enhancements like the HUD Editor gave players greater control over their gameplay experience.
But at the heart of this transformative update was the revitalization of Albion's open world. Dynamic Encampments, Boss Lairs, and Crystal Creatures brought new opportunities, while S.A.F.E. Portals were added to offer solo players quick access to the deeper reaches of the Outlands. With this, Horizons set the stage for yet more developments coming to the Outlands with our next update...
Looking Ahead to 2025
Phew! That was a busy year! And as we look back at the year that’s passed, we're re-evaluating our development cycle. Beginning with Season 26, Guild Seasons will move to a two-month format, with major updates arriving every four months.
The next update will build on what Horizons started, bringing new objectives and shady trading opportunities to the Outlands, as well as a new Journal category, and much more. Stay tuned for more on that very soon!
In the meantime, let's give a shout out to our incredible community; your passion and dedication have propelled Albion to new heights. Here's to the next chapter!
