Brimstone and Mist launched on October 21, bringing significant improvements to Corrupted Dungeons, the Roads of Avalon, and large-scale combat. In our newest Dev Talk, Game Director Robin Henkys discusses major improvements coming to Faction Warfare and Hellgates with the next content update.

1. Faction Warfare
We’ve long wanted to expand Faction Warfare into a major activity for players of all levels. We want players without large guilds to experience the excitement of massive battles, while also allowing maintaining Faction Warfare as a valuable and rewarding activity for experienced players.

To achieve this, we’re changing the following:
  • Faction Conquest: In addition to Outposts, factions will be able to conquer entire zones. To provoke large-scale battles, Factions will only be able to attack Outposts and zones that border another Faction.
  • Faction Points: Points will be awarded not only for taking Outposts and zones, but also for killing enemy defenders. Loyalty to a faction will become more important via Faction ranks and weekly/monthly Faction Campaigns with valuable rewards.
  • Core System Changes: To encourage beginning and mid-level players to participate, Faction Warfare in blue/yellow zones will be non-lethal, instead allowing knocked-out players to rejoin the fight from their nearest Outpost. At the same time, the red zones will contain the highest-value Faction Warfare areas, and will offer a unique red zone battle event to encourage high-value, full-loot Faction Warfare.
With these changes, we think Faction Warfare will become the perfect way for new Albion players to get their first experience of large-scale warfare, while offering a deep and interesting activity for veteran players who don’t have an Outlands guild or want to enjoy large-scale warfare even when their guild is not currently fighting.

2. Hellgates
Hellgates are an integral feature of Albion Online, letting players participate in high-stakes PvP in a challenging but balanced battleground. Hellgates were developed during the Alpha phase of Albion Online, and it's finally time to give them the attention they deserve.
Goals of the new Hellgates:
  • Make them more accessible by adding Hellgate maps, which lead to a Hellgate in the open world (similar to Dungeon Maps) whenever your group is ready.
  • Make them more rewarding by adding a ranking system and an Infamy-like system that boost your rewards as your ranking increases.
  • Make them more competitive by reworking the matchmaking system, ensuring you get matched with challenging opponents and don't receive rewards without fighting. We’re also adding all-new 10v10 Hellgates.
  • Make them more polished via a complete rework of their visuals and their PvE experience. The new Hellgates will offer varied PvE challenges and rewards while waiting for an enemy team, as well as a variety of different Hellgate layouts.
I hope you’re as excited about these major improvements to Faction Warfare and Hellgates as we are – we’ll share more details as development continues.

In the meantime, you can look forward to our upcoming Play Store beta as well as major changes for Season 11 (including updates to Season Point scoring and the Outlands map) which we’ll cover in an upcoming Dev Talk.

Thanks for watching!

Numerous existing mobs including the Demonic Warlock and Demonic Underlord have been updated, and attackable hazards have improved effects and readability.

Anglers rejoice! Fishing is now available in every Roads of Avalon zone, and three new fish species exclusive to the Roads have been introduced. These can be cooked into recipes via a new line of roasts, which also include chicken, goose, and pork.

Brimstone & Mist brings numerous updates to group PvP combat of all sizes that will keep Albion's combat meta fresh and fair. These include balance changes to numerous weapons and armor, changes to the Smart Cluster Queue to keep parties together, and updates to Disarray to reinstate the importance of healers and damage dealers.

The Brimstone & Mist Midseason Update arrives October 21, bringing numerous additions and improvements. The update will also introduce Albion's second premier costume set: the Knight Adventurer Bundle.

This newest bundle includes ten vanity unlocks with a vivid blue crystal theme that will transform your character into a powerful and mysterious warrior. All the included items can be used on male or female characters, with unique looks (and even unique voices) for each.

Like the Rogue Bundle, this new bundle also includes an Armored Horse Mount Skin with a matching blue crystal theme. On top of that, it also includes guild versions of the Knight Adventurer helmet, armor, cape, and mount skin that allow you to show off your currently active guild logo and colors without dimming the costume's impressive visual effects.
Premium Animated Emotes
The centerpiece of the Knight Adventurer Bundle is the Warbanner, a main-hand costume weapon. The Warbanner includes two premium animated emotes activated by spells, Honor the Flag and Rally the Troops:

The Warbanner uses the primary weapon slot, and like all other vanity weapon items with unique spells, its spells can be toggled on or off with a special button next to the spell icons.

How to Get the Knight Adventurer Bundle
When the Brimstone & Mist Midseason Update goes live on October 21, this complete bundle will be available in the ingame store for USD $29.95. This bundle includes all currently available Knight Adventurer and Knight Adventurer Guild skin options:
  • Knight Adventure's Hood, Armor, Boots, and Cape
  • Knight Adventurer's Warbanner with 2 Premium Emotes
  • Knight Adventurer's Armored Horse Skin
  • Knight Adventurer's Guild Helmet
  • Knight Adventurer's Guild Armor

The Rise of Avalon update went live on August 12, 2020, bringing the Roads of Avalon, Corrupted Dungeons, and much more to the world of Albion. In this Dev Talk, Game Director Robin Henkys gives an update about the current state of the game as well as a preview of what's coming next.

2020 in Albion
2020 brought two major updates and massive growth in player numbers. The last update was developed with almost our entire team working from home, and since then we’ve been busy dealing with the challenges of distributed production, increased player numbers, and staying on top of patches and future content.

Today we want to give you an update on what's coming next. Two exciting developments are coming soon:

Midseason Update: Brimstone & Mist
The first of these is the Brimstone & Mist Midseason Update, which expands on the Rise of Avalon update launched this past summer:
  • New Mobs and Traps in Corrupted Dungeons, including Hellhounds, new Heretics and demons, deadly spike and lava traps, and an all-new final boss, the Demonic Harbinger
  • Rebalanced existing mobs and increased Demonic Shard health in Slayer difficulty
  • Added numerous fishing areas to Roads of Avalon
  • Added an exclusive rare fish that can only be caught in the Roads of Avalon, plus a new line of food and corresponding rare fish recipe
  • Changes to Disarray (zerg debuff):
    • Disarray will now depend on the relative difference in Disarray levels between you and your target
    • This will boost the importance of damage dealers and healers while ensuring each role stays impactful no matter the size of the battle
    • Disarray will still protect smaller groups from being overwhelmed
  • Changes to the Smart Cluster Queue:
    • Now keeps existing parties together when possible
    • Party leaders can now assign party as well as player priorities
    • Improved the way the system deals with allied players, ensuring players don't displace allies
  • ...and much more

Brimstone and Mist goes live on October 21 - read more about it here.
Android Updating + Google Play Open Beta
  • Improved Android updating:
    • In-app updating will dramatically reduce the size of the .apk download
    • Downloads changed content only, which should result in much faster patching
    • Introduced with Brimstone and Mist, but will mostly affect future patches, since this update contains significant structural changes that need to be downloaded
  • Google Play Store Beta:
    • Happening in early November
    • Install and update Albion Online via the Google Play Store, making it easy and convenient to keep the game updated
Looking to the Future
Of course, the Midseason Update and the mobile version aren’t all we’ve been working on. With Rise of Avalon we concluded much of the work we set out to do in the Queen Update: we added interconnectivity to the world, added a space for mid-level guilds to play and live in, and we added an all-new solo activity with its own competitive metagame.

At this time, work has already begun on our next update, in which we finally want to fulfill our vision for a new and massively improved Faction Warfare system. On top of that, we've got some exciting changes for Hellgates planned as well. We'll be releasing more Dev Talks on these subjects after the release of Brimstone and Mist on October 21.

That's all for today - thanks for watching!
Albion Online - iancurtismayfield

On October 21, Rise of Avalon Patch 7, AKA the Brimstone & Mist Midseason Update, goes live. This patch brings far-reaching gameplay improvements, including new enemies and traps in Corrupted Dungeons, increased fishing opportunities and new fish in the Roads of Avalon, Disarray and Smart Cluster Queue improvements, combat balance changes, new recipes, crafting and butchery improvements, and much more.
New Corrupted Foes Emerge
A wide range of new enemies and traps will be added to Corrupted Dungeons. Face off against a fearsome new boss, the Demonic Harbinger, a sword-wielding demonic general. Fight new lesser demons, corrupted Heretics, and Hellhounds, and watch out for new spike and lava traps. The behavior of numerous existing mobs, including the Demonic Warlock and Demon Lord, will also be updated, and attackable Mephit hazards will have improved effects and readability.

Roads of Avalon: Anglers Rejoice!
Fishing will be fully integrated into the Roads of Avalon, with fishable waters found in every Roads of Avalon zone. In addition, three new fish species exclusive to the Roads are being introduced: the Whitefog Snapper, Clearhaze Snapper, and Puremist Snapper. These fish can be eaten on their own or turned into Chopped Fish as normal, or cooked into recipes via the new line of Roasts (see "Additional Changes" below).

Combat Balancing and Zerg Mechanic Changes
In addition to the changes above, this patch will bring new combat balance changes that mainly affect group PvP. Combat Designer Michael Schwahn describes them as follows: "This balance patch mainly focuses on Crystal League and ZvZ fights, and especially on improving various abilities and items which have been underperforming recently. Other changes include adding the Harpoon ability to all spears via the W-slot and giving the Spirithunter a new E-ability."

Changes to the Smart Cluster Queue will give players more control over how they set up their armies for large fights, as sorting in the queue is now done on a per-party level to keep existing parties together. And Disarray (AKA the "zerg debuff") has been updated to ensure the ZvZ meta plays out in a similar way across a wide range of fight sizes, while still providing smaller groups with the same protection from large armies.

Additional Changes
  • A new line of roasts will be craftable at the cook, using raw chicken, goose, pork, and the three new fish species
  • Faction Capes and Royal Armors will retain the quality of the Cape and Armor used to create them
  • Three additional levels of Hardcore Expeditions will be added
  • Minimap will be reworked for improved readability in numerous city and island locations
  • Focus will be usable when butchering to get more meat
  • Numerous further optimizations to the mobile version
  • ...and much more
