Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden - Natascha

Hello Stalkers!

We imagine hunting for scraps and finding artifacts is a full time job but do you also spend time creating content or do you like to stream?

Then this opportunity might wet your appetite:
We are launching the MYZ Influencer Revenue share program!

How it works
Go to https://influencers.mutantyearzero.com/ and sign up with either your Twitch, Mixer, Twitter or YouTube account. Once you are logged in with one of the above, you can connect the additional ones.

After you’ve connected all your channels, you’ll see the programs that are available to you according to your followers/subscriber counts on the different channels.

How to earn revenue
Once you click “join program” you will see a details page. It tells you how much the revenue share is, when the program started and when it ends.

Under “Landing Page” you will see a Tracking link you can copy. This is your personal influencer link. Add this somewhere prominent on your channel page like in your panel section. It’s also a good idea to add it to your chat area as command or any other location you see fit. Whenever someone buys the game through your link, you’ll get a revenue share from that sale.

Note that the game version in your influencer link is only for the PC/Steam version.

"The odds are against us, yeah. But we're brave, we kick ass, and we don't have heads like moldy muffins!" - Farrow

She might look like a cute little heartbreaker, but she's no sweet little love maker.  Meet the foxy vixen, Farrow!

Farrow is one of the recruitable characters you'll encounter during your expeditions in The Zone.  When you find her, you may notice that while she's clearly a combat-ready Stalker, she ain't quite from around here; in fact, she's not even originally from the Ark!

Her true origins are a mystery - even to her.  All she knows is her name's Farrow, and she's a product of the Zone.  She thought her settlement was the only place left in the whole world...

Well, until she met you.

You'll initially discover Farrow in what people call the Metal Fields; there, you'll be greeted by a mob of Polis-Bots itching to dispense "justice".  Well probably anyway, if robots could feel.  Or itch.

Specializing in stealth and assassination, Farrow comes equipped with skills and gear that make her adept at quickly and quietly dispatching her foes.  Her signature ability, Silent Assassin, doubles her critical strike chance against enemies while she's hidden! This makes her particularly valuable for initiating combat out of stealth, such as when picking off stragglers.

Combine Silent Assassin with items and boosts that further increase crit chance for fantastic results:

Other choices allow Farrow to remain hidden while moving between cover, and later she can mutate to possess extreme mobility, able to leap great distances or effortlessly gain high ground advantages.

"Give up now an' I'll go easy on ya!"

Let's take a closer look at what Farrow's cookin' with:

FARROW'S MUTATIONS
NAME
DESCRIPTION
ICON
Circuit Breaker
You have the ability to instantly identify and disable critical functioning parts of a mechanical enemy. Once shot they will be disabled for 1 turn.
Sneak
The years of creeping around the Zone have paid off, your cat-like senses have made you supremely aware of your surroundings, giving you the ability to pass by others (mostly) unnoticed.
Silent Assassin
(Passive)
Like the dome-headed assassins of the past, you are able to do great damage whilst hidden from your target. That's as long as you hit... Man.
Gunslinger
Your hand-to-eye coordination is improved considerably, which gives you the ability to shoot multiple targets at once whilst using only 1 AP.
Corpse Eater
Your metabolism is now abnormally robust, as well as your jaws and teeth. You can eat any type of fresh raw meat to replenish your health. Gross but also strangely satisfying!
Moth Wings
You have the ability to grow wings on your back. This enables you to move vertically and hover in position. Giving you a tactical advantage over enemies beneath you. This also allows you to get to high places which would normally be out of reach.
Frog legs
With your powerful, frog-like leg muscles you can perform super-mutant leaps to cover great distances. Useful if you are cornered by your enemies!
Super Tendons
(Passive)
Your leg tendons have become mutated, making them thicker and stronger. You are now able to move or sprint to high places freely and without the use of a ladder.

Important gameplay note: You can only equip one Minor (Square), one Major (Hexagon), and one Passive (Circle) mutation at a time!

Now, Let's take a quick look at her passive stat mutations:

STAT BOOSTS
NAME
DESCRIPTION
ICON
Health Booster
By beefing-up the physical functions of your body you can permanently increase your maximum health by an additional 1/2/3 HP.
Critical Booster
Permanently increases the chance of inflicting critical damage by 10/20%.

Farrow is the only Stalker capable of increasing their innate critical strike rate. Stat boosts are ALWAYS ACTIVE as long as you've put points into them; you don't have to "equip" the bonuses like you would with other mutations.

As you can see, Farrow's all about leaving busted heads and broken hearts left in her wake.

How will you utilize Farrow?  We'd love to hear how she fits into your playstyle when Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden launches on December 4th.

Alright Stalkers, that's all for now.  We'll see you in the Zone real soon.

The most important thing to keep in mind about Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is that you can’t just run up to a group of enemies, take them on, and expect to come out of the encounter alive.

Doing this means you will be crushed. Over and over and over again. Instead you must learn to use stealth and plan your major attack in detail.

The tactical combat follows many of the rules from similar games (like XCOM) – you have two actions per round, shooting ends your turn, you can learn special abilities, you can overwatch etc – but there are many other factors you must keep in mind.

Today we are very excited to announce that Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden can now be pre-ordered on Steam! If you pre-order the Deluxe Edition you will also get access to the pre-order exclusive Beta Demo, which takes you through the first few hours of the game.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/760060/Mutant_Year_Zero_Road_to_Eden/

We also have another gameplay video for you! Producer Mark Parker plays through the resource rich Scraplands map and shows off how stealth can be used to great effect in the game.

The Scraplands is a scrap yard from the old world. It is filled with car wrecks and you can find piles of valuable scrap and weapon parts all over the place. This challenging area is crawling with Zone Ghouls and their leader is well protected by a lot of henchmen.

Mark Parker shows you exactly how to take out single-targets silently in his playthrough of the Scraplands. By picking his moments carefully he can thin out the herd of Ghouls one by one, so that when he is ready to take on the boss he can do so with the odds greatly stacked in his favor.

Watch the video to see how important it is to plan in Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden. If you just run in guns blazing you will more often than not be overrun by enemies. If you take your time, plan your strategy carefully and execute your plan accordingly, you can crush your enemies with minimum risk to your team of mutants.

Being stealthy and using the silent approach to your advantage is a key component of Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden. Combat is brutal and will offer a harsh challenge, but by sneaking around and taking out isolated enemies will let you remove several low-level enemies before tackling the main threat.

You wouldn't expect any less with a game made by former Hitman developers. Read how you can master the stealthy approach in the latest edition of our dev blog:

We recently sent out a beta version of Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden to press and the coverage has been amazing so far! We’ve collected some of the previews we’ve gotten in the announcement below for your perusal.

PC Gamer:
It's fun, funny, and the combat is challenging from the get-go

A pig, a duck, and a mutant lady walk into a camp full of angry ghouls. There's no punchline—just a game over screen, because those ghouls lit me up with rifles and molotovs before I got a chance to move. Dux? Barbecued. Bormin, my gruff boar scavenger? Skewered. Selma? Also barbecued. Look, these ghoul guys live out in the Zone, what survivors in Mutant Year Zero call the wasteland of this particular post-apocalypse. Point is, they don't discriminate who they set on fire.

Gamezone:
Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden has a lot of heart but also guts

I was thoroughly hooked on the story and wanted to know more about the world and its secrets. Clearly, there is more in this world than just a wasteland. With an early-point taste of the game, many interesting skills were out my reach but just reading the descriptions were enough to fantasize about tactical applications and new ways to approach combat. In terms of polish and performance, Mutant Year Zero is already up to a high standard, and with about a month left in the oven, it should get even better.

MMORPG:
Not So MMO: Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden – First Impressions

Right off the bat, the game is sort of a blend of story-based exploration and XCOM-like turn-based combat. That’s different enough, but your main characters for the story are a very Howard-like mutated duck and tanky mutated warthog that could easily be working with the Foot Clan. The two are far more serious-minded than the characters they resemble, however. They do joke and the game’s not short on puns, but the devs did a really good job of setting down a layer of humor that feels appropriate to the game.

Techraptor:
Embrace Your Post-Human Inner Beast in Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden

Smack-dab in the middle of a patch of woods, I took control of Bormin and Dux. It’s easy to guess who’s who I’m sure. The lovable critters are stalkers in the Zone. Sounds familiar? It should. It looks more like a tip of the hat to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. rather than shameless imitation. In any case, they are out on a seemingly mundane foray for scraps. Bormin doubles as a gravelly and dismal narrator, a kind of post-human Epic Voice Guy. Dux is more of a daffy little bastard, a comic relief foil in contrast with Bormin. The interplay between the two characters fits the setting.

They move and explore the levels from a top-down real-time mode at first. When they encounter hostiles you get to turn-based combat that will inevitably remind most players of XCOM. The influence is obviously there, but Mutant is decidedly simpler and doesn’t feel bogged down by complex details. It’s a clear and humble quality in an indie game that couldn’t support the cumbersome maintenance of a full-on XCOM clone. The combat feels effective and polished, and that’s more than you can ask from a beta.

Critical Hit:
Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is ducking hard, and that’s the way I like it

Based on the Swedish pen and paper game, Mutant Year Zero makes no bones about what kind of game it wants to be: Duckin’ hard, unforgiving if you make a single blunder and placing an emphasis on sticking to the shadows so that you can set your characters up in the perfect position to carry out an ambush.

With a development pedigree that stretches back to the original Hitman games, that stealth aspect feels like a natural marriage to the ideals of XCOM and its turn-based strategy. You’re still going to be calculating every single move that you can make, from the chances of landing a deadly critical hit (Hello!) to just how effective that brick wall is going to be when you take cover behind it.

That melting pot of diverse gameplay elements feels right, the in-game chatter between the core group of characters livens up a world that is teeming with danger and the idea of a smaller core group whose growth you can customise makes the game feel more intimate in its design. Unless you choose the permadeath option that is, you mad masochist you.

Gameskinny:
Mutant Year Zero Beta: Our First Look Impressions on Turn-Based Mutant Mayhem

It's hard to overstate how much I enjoyed this blend of real-time and turn-based systems. It fixes one of the biggest problems with X-COM: the inability to precisely position your troops for an effective ambush while retaining the ability to move quickly if the enemy changes position.

In games like this, where you're consistently outnumbered and outgunned, planning and position are of the utmost importance, and I greatly appreciated being able to move about freely.

Gamecritics:
Mutant Year Zero: Road To Eden Preview

This sense of being in a lost world to be explored drew me in. I don’t expect the full experience to deviate much from what I’ve seen, but I’ve always enjoyed the concept of ‘lostech’ and seeing a group try to make sense of discovered items that modern people find mundane always brings a smile to my face.

Polygon:
XCOM-like Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden preview highlights novel stealth mechanic

The hook in Mutant is the ability to hide your soldiers behind cover. Each mission starts out with a free-roaming, real-time phase where you can explore the map and spy on your enemies at range. Some of those enemies will go on patrol and, by moving your soldier along behind them, you can get surprisingly close. Then, with the tap of a button, you can have your soldier hiding behind a tree or a rock. Once the enemy turns around, walking their patrol in the other direction, your soldier can ambush them from behind dealing extra damage.

Even more entertaining, once the trap is sprung, and so long as the other enemies on the map haven’t been alerted to your presence, you can reset your team. Once back in the real-time mode you’re free to keep exploring or searching for the next place to set a trap.
