Hello Adventurers!

One of the most important core values we have is our relationship with the community, even though we have been communicating with you regularly via our various platforms and announcement series such as Developer Face-to-face and Developer Insights, we feel that we haven’t sat down and done a Q&A with you in a very long time. So today, we want to address some of the community’s concerns over the past few months.

Q: Are you working on a new map? Or will you keep updating Europa Island?
A: We do not have plans to work on a new map at the moment, we have learned that developing new maps isn’t the best approach to keep the game interesting and fun. New maps tend to split the player base and create more matchmaking related issues instead of bringing everyone together. Our plan is to keep evolving Europa Island and make changes to it every season. In Adventurer Season 4, we will be adding more types of terrain, adjust lighting, and introduce a bit of new colors to Europa Island. Below is a preview of what we've been working on for Season 4. We'll be continuing to drop more info and sneak-peeks for the new season over the coming weeks, so be sure to keep an eye on our official channels for further updates!

(Work in progress. Does not represent the quality on official release.)

Q: Can you guys please remove Experience as a reward in the Raging Sea Supply Box? It’s really frustrating whenever I get Exp. when I paid E-Points for the box :(
A: We sincerely apologize for the unintended user experience we have caused with this design, this question initiated a long discussion within the team, we reflected on this issue thoroughly and came to a conclusion, we plan to:
  • Completely remove the Experience rewards from the Raging Sea Supply Box, replacing them with rewards that are more valuable and higher-quality, such as E-Points and weapon skins. If you open the box and receive a weapon skin that is already owned by you, it will automatically be converted to Tokens
  • Add the AK15-Raging Sea and R700-Doki Doki to the Token Shop
  • Make the Raging Sea Supply Box stay in the Store on a long-term basis, update the name of the Supply Box and its prize pool every once in a while
The rewards in the Supply Box are all thoughtfully designed and delicately crafted by our art team, thank you so much for your support towards their hard work!

Q: DX12 WHEN?!
A: We are in the last stage of our internal tests and debugging for the DX12 Beta Client, and we will be releasing another Q&A this week dedicated for DX12, stay tuned for that!

Q: What’s the size of the dev team?
A: As of now, we have 80 devs passionately crafting Ring of Elysium for all you amazing people!

Q: I really loved the Thailand Invitational you guys held in April, it was a ton of fun to watch. Anything planned on the competitive side of things later this year?
A: Absolutely, we care about ROE’s competitive scene a lot and we want to keep the community strive for competitive play on all regions. We strongly encourage organizations to hold their own ROE competitive events and would love to provide support, a good example would be our partnership with ROECL for their Season 2 NA and EU leagues. We currently don’t have any more LAN eSport events planned this year, but we have something very exciting coming this June and we can’t wait to share more details with you on this soon.

Q: When is the SA/OCE/RU server coming?
A: Before we add a new server region, we have to take many factors into consideration, such as whether there are enough active players in that region to support our 60-player per round matchmaking. Currently, the player base in those regions is still growing and wouldn't be able to utilize dedicated servers fully. We are carefully keeping an eye on our player populations and other factors so that new servers can be added as soon as they're needed.

Q: Can you guys do more to promote the game?
A: We’d love to and have plans to do just that! Ring of Elysium is still in Early Access, and our efforts have been focused on polishing the game to a high-quality, AAA standard. But as we get closer to the official launch, we’ll be ramping up our promotion efforts so that we can expand our community and let the world know how amazing an experience Ring of Elysium is.

Q: Are you guys still developing Death Cam? If so, when is it coming?
A: We added Death Cam to our development to-do list many months ago, but this feature is a system that requires a lot of development resources to implement, and our devs have been constantly busy working on other high-priority, critical tasks such as the 64-bit client, the DX12 client and other gameplay improvements. With that being said, we understand the importance of this feature and we want to get this feature implemented in the near future.

Q: Training Mode is nice, but can we expect any improvements coming to it? What about a dedicated training ground with unlimited ammo?
A: We know that new players, content creators, pros, and everyone in between has asked for and could utilize different training environments. The current training mode that we put out recently is only the first step in what we have planned for training environments, and we will continue to work on it such as improving the bots’ AI, increasing the amount of loot the bots drop when they’re eliminated, and increasing the overall loot spawn on the map. Something like a dedicated training ground sounds pretty nice, but it won't happen in the near future.

Q: Why does it take so long for the customer support to reply to me?
A: We’re fully aware that the lack of customer support has been a long-time issue and we want to fix that. Starting next month, we will have big improvements coming to this area including more dedicated staff and a better system to increase our customer support efficiency.

Please note that the customer service email will be used mainly for account suspension appeals, reports, requests, and etc. For gameplay related questions and feedback, Reddit or Discord will be a better platform because our community managers can directly answer your questions. We’ll be sure to provide details as issues arise.

Q: I love the Mt. Dione map but I can’t play it anytime I want and the player-count is low whenever I find a match, have you guys thought about doing map rotations, as in only allowing players to queue for Mt. Dione for a day and then switch back to Europa Island?
A: We understand that some of you really enjoy the uniqueness of Mt. Dione, but we want to respect our players’ preferences and make sure they always have a choice. We believe a map rotation isn’t the best method to mitigate this issue. Instead, we have extended the Mt. Dione available times and created new weekly limited-time modes which will be coming out this month. We’re going to be hosting most of these LTMs on Mt. Dione, as well as providing increased rewards for playing the LTMs. We want to try this first, and please continue to provide us feedback so we can make any necessary adjustments.

Q: Any plans on adding full controller support or bringing ROE to console?
A: Right now, we’re focused on getting Ring of Elysium polished for PC. Eventually, we do hope to add a full controller support and bring Ring of Elysium to console platforms, but currently there are no definite plans.

Q: Can we have more graphic options?
A: Once the DX12 Beta client is released later this month and stabilized, our client team is going to switch gears and begin focusing on graphical improvements. This means continuous optimization on performance and additional tech features to the engine which will bring ROE’s graphics to a whole new level. While that is going on, we will consider expanding the graphical options so that Adventurers can customize the game’s graphics to their own personal preference.

Q: I use Shadow / GeForce NOW and it says I’m banned as soon as I launch the game, what’s up with that?!
A: For Shadow.tech users:
Sorry for this issue, this happened most likely because someone else cheated on that cloud service PC, causing the machine’s hardware to be banned from ROE, making everyone else unable to play on it.

Logging onto the game with a PC that’s hardware banned won’t cause your account to be banned, it just simply won’t allow you to enter the game. Since Ring of Elysium is free-to-play, we have a zero-tolerance policy towards cheaters and we issue very hard punishments towards cheaters to ensure the game’s fair play environment.

As of now, we cannot treat personal PCs, cloud computing PCs, and public PCs differently, because we don’t want Cloud PC services or Internet Cafes to become a safe haven for cheaters. Once an account has been convicted with cheating, both the account and the PC hardware will be banned for 10 years.

For GeForce NOW users:
This is actually a compatibility issue between GeForce NOW and Ring of Elysium’s security system. Recently, we have been actively communicating with NVIDIA technicians to locate the root cause of this issue, and we plan to deploy a patch to fix this in the future. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Q: Can we get better pricing for weapon skins in the Token Shop, or get more tokens when we get duplicated skins in Supply Boxes?
A: When we first designed the Token Shop, our intention was to create a way for “unlucky” players to get a “guaranteed” Epic weapon skin of their choice, and create a way for “lucky” players to get some Token exclusive skins such as the AUG-Victoria and the FAMAS-Rosebloom. Based on the feedback and data we collected, the Token Shop has done a great job serving that purpose. However, we’ll continue to monitor Token Shop’s performance and community feedback.

Q: Why not enable Adventurer Tier purchasing at the beginning of each season?
A: While we really appreciate that players want to spend E-Points to support us and boost up their Adventurer Tiers, we want to encourage them to play the game more and experience the fun and excitements ROE can bring. In addition, enabling Tier purchasing at the end of the season allows our art team to have more time to polish the high-tier rewards such as Adventurer Character Styles.

Q: Any new languages being added? If yes, which one and when?
A: Definitely, we have been working on this for a while now and we will be adding the Russian and German language very soon.

That wraps up this issue of our Development Team Q&A. If you have any questions you want to ask, make sure to let us know via our official platforms and we’ll be back with another Q&A post soon! Be sure to follow up on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, as well as joining our Discord and Reddit! Take care and we'll see you next time.

Dear Adventurers,

In our latest patch (5.11.2019), we implemented the 3D spawn-selection system, and we’re delighted to see that a lot of players liked and supports our direction.

However, we have received some feedback on how we can improve this system. Such as the issue of not being able to clearly see your own spawn point and the spawn point picked by your teammates, this issue is especially severe for players that are not sensitive to colors. We value those feedback very seriously and we have decided to start working on them immediately.

We will be starting with adding a name-tag to the spawn points selected by teammates, and we expect to implement this change next week. Again, thank you for your support and feedback you have provided, it’s the biggest element that drives us to continuously improve Ring of Elysium.

Thank you,
ROE DEV Team

In our previous Developer Face-to-face post, we announced the release date for the DX12 client's open beta test- which is this May.

To help explain what the DX12 client actually brings to the table, we have invited the Lead Client Programmer from the Dev team- Frank, to present the DX12 client's features and answer some of your questions, let's take a look!

Frank:
Hey guys! Frank from the client team here, I will try my best to introduce the DX12 client to you in an easy-to-understand fashion and answers some of your questions!

So, what is DX12?
DX12's full name is DirectX 12, a collection of application programming interfaces (APIs) developed by Microsoft which is commonly used in game programming. In other words, DirectX is the foundational graphics system that we need when we run the game.

If we compare Ring of Elysium to another software like Microsoft Word, then DX12 is equivalent to the operating system we use, such as Windows 7 or Windows 10.

This underlying graphics system needs to be advanced and powerful in order to fully utilize the computing potential of our hardware, so that the game can present a better graphics quality and run more smoothly.

Historically, games use different versions of DirectX depending on the latest matured version available when the game is being developed. Here are some examples:

DirectX9 (initially released in 2002)
Game developed with DX9: League of Legends (released in 2009)

DirectX11 (initially released in 2009)
Game developed with DX11: DARK SOULS III (released in 2016)

DirectX12 (initially released in 2015)
Game developed with DX12: Tom Clancy's The Division 2 (released in 2019)

What can DX12 bring?
More frames!
DirectX12 is designed for today's hardware architecture. It has made great progress in terms of making full use of the hardware, allowing for more efficient resource utilization through parallel computation. So, building a game based on DirectX12 would help everyone get more frames per second, which means more eliminations and more helicopter boardings!

Better graphics!
Many graphical functions weren't added previously because we were limited by the number of frames we got with the previous client. Therefore, with the increase of FPS, we now have more space and potential to put these computing resources into a better graphics performance.

DirectX 12 also makes more technologies become possible, allowing us to bring you a more immersive gaming experience. We can expect better lighting, richer landscape, etc. bringing us a better looking Ring of Elysium.

My graphics card is marked with DX11, can I run the DX12 client?
Yes, absolutely!

DX11 graphics cards can run DX12 games completely fine, it's just that they won’t be able to take advantage of some of the DX12 features.

Just like older iPhone models, which can still use the latest version of iOS and enjoy the majority of its benefits, but cannot support some features such as face recognition.

Our team will also make sure to work on the compatibility of the DX12 client so that everyone can enjoy the game as they are now.

I use Windows 7, can I run the DX12 client?
Yes, but it will take a while after the release of the Windows 10 version.

In 2018, we received the news that Microsoft decided to support DX12 on Windows 7, which helped us make the decision to update the client to DX12. Because we wanted to make sure that both Windows 7 and 10 users would be able to enjoy the quality improvements that DX12 offers before fully committing.

But for now, the team is focusing on developing the Windows 10 version, and we’ll soon bring DX12 to Windows 7 users.

Note: Since DX12 can only run on the newer driver versions on Windows 7, Windows 7 users will need to make sure their graphics card drivers are up to date in order to play ROE with the DX12 client when it's released!

Hello Adventurers!

In February, we had to disable Solo and Duo matchmaking on NA servers in order to ensure a pleasant matchmaking experience for everyone. We later applied a temporary plan to enable Solo matchmaking for two hours every day during peak server times.

In the meantime, we kept internally discussing the feasibility of better options&strategies, and we continuously evaluated the NA server's matchmaking health levels. Through our latest evaluations, we actually saw a jump in that health level, combined with the recent addition of our Solo Training Mode, and the fact that we have been receiving lots of messages from enthusiastic NA players, hoping to enjoy Solo matchmaking for more than just two hours a day, we figured it's about time to make this change:

We have completely reopened the NA Solo matchmaking at all times throughout the day. Sorry for the wait!

We will continue to look at all your feedback on every aspect of the game, keep doing server evaluations, and make further adjustments accordingly if needed. Thank you so much for your understanding and support.
