Custom liveries for the Pullman Heavyweight passenger cars are now available!
You can already find some liveries people have made on the Steam Workshop, and the new templates will automatically show up in your "Rolling Line -> Modding -> templates" folder.
This update also includes a few fixes:
fix to the large lag freeze when saving a new livery
fixed collision on the station & platform props
fixed bug where using "smooth rotation" would not progress the tutorial for Oculus Rift users
Enjoy!
I've been away on a holiday around the south island of NZ for the last 10 days, but I'm back to work on Rolling Line updates again, so there should be some interesting stuff coming in the near future!
Today's update adds something everyone's been waiting for since the games release, working automated signals in custom track!
These signals are just visual, and trains will not automatically stop/start based on signals (this is something for a future update!)
You can now choose to "setup" and "edit" signal heads to make them respond to trains automatically. you can set the distance down the track that the light will appear orange and red.
Unfortunately any signals with more the one head on pre-exisiting layouts will need to be replaced, as signal heads are now their own prop, which can be snapped on to signal posts. You can find these new signal parts in the same drawers that contained the old signals:
You can also control the lights on each signal head using a set of controls on the back. Before you "setup" a signal with automation this is the default way of controlling what a signal shows.
Along with these new signal features, this update also includes:
Hid terrain that was accidentally left visible in that random extra room.
Fixed issue where the horn control was not hidden in certain quickmods.
Fixed bug with loading a save that has quickmod drawers open, without quickmod enabled.
I'm going to be away for the next week on a proper holiday around the South Island, which includes the Coastal Pacific train (which is the exact route the main layout is based on!).
Updates will resume when i get back, so in the mean time I hope everyone enjoys the new automated signals!
Today's update adds something pretty special! you can now import your own 3D models to be used as terrain, much like how the QuickMod locomotives work.
You can use real-world height data, hand-made terrain or pretty much anything with this new system. You can even now make maps with the same level of terrain complexity as the main layout & Santa Fe (which were made in the same way!)
If you want to create your own terrain, make sure you have the "-quickMod" launch tag, then place your .OBJ model files in the "Rolling Line/Modding/quickTerrain/[your custom folder]" folder (use the example terrain as a guide).
You can have a look at an example of what you can do with the new terrain with this map made using real height data on the Steam workshop
Along with the QuickTerrain feature, this update also includes:
Ability to export track & scenery of your layout to an OBJ 3D model. You can find these options in the quickMod drawer. This is really useful for designing terrain around track! (these files are exported to "Rolling Line/Modding/Export".
QuickMod now has options for "soundPreset" and "hornPreset" which you can use to set the locomotive sound effects and horn/whistle effect respectively.
Boats on the main layout are fixed (after being broken on the previous update)
I hope you all had a great Christmas! Custom liveries for the Berkshire and it's tender are now available. Next up is the Pullman carriages, which will be getting custom liveries separately in the next update.
Along with the new liveries, here are the rest of the features included in this update:
Boats are now paintable! the two small boats can now be painted
Using the "-basic" launch tag will now force the game to use minimal settings (e.g. shadows and render distances are automatically set to lowest). this is useful for improving performance if you are unsure as to what you need to adjust
The missing quickmod locomotive now looks different (this will show up in replacement when a map uses mods that you do not have)
Fixed wheels being in the wrong position on quickmods when picked up
Fixed alignment of rails on the sharp set of points
changed the painter models for track colors & points position painters (now with clearer icons to show what they do)
The Christmas menu is now back to normal
The next update will be based around the Pullman liveries, and will also include a range of smaller bug fixes and such. Enjoy!
Time for another Issue of Model Rolling Line! This one is a special Christmas issue, and talks about the new Berkshire & Pullman carriages (and more).
You can find the new magazine issue in-game or you can also read it on the Gaugepunk Games website
Along with the new magazine issue, there are a couple of small fixes included in this update:
Fixed train wheels being displayed incorrectly in the distance on custom livery wagons
Fixed a couple of mistakes in the previous magazine
Made small changes to the train movement which should help prevent "frozen trains" that some people have been experiencing at very low framerates (trains would stop moving completely)
Added red light to the back of the green Pullman car (i forgot to in the last update)
There's going to be shift in focus to gameplay features & improvements after Christmas, and I'm thinking of starting with making a brand new item drawer system! I'll also be working on a new "themed update" based on the Weka Pass in New Zealand throughout January! This update will be adding a new official map & trains, and something everyone's been asking for since the games release, turntables!
Custom liveries for all of the new trains added in the Santa Fe update are now available! This includes the F7, F7 B unit, and all 4 streamline passenger cars.
You can already find a ton of liveries people have made on the Steam Workshop!
This update also includes a few small features and fixes:
Snapping added to a range of props, like the hedges & fences from the Santa Fe update, as well as several older metal fences already in the game
The height-cap on PC has been removed, so you can go as high as you want using the scroll-wheel
Fixed issue with the "pause time" menu button option not working properly
Fixed issue with selecting high up props to edit
There is also another little something I'm working on, which is a "quickMod" system, which lets you add your own trains into the game (with custom 3D models). This system is very much in-development at the moment, but people are already making tons of amazing mods over at RollingLineModding.com!
The next update will hopefully be something special for Christmas, followed by some brand new NZR (New Zealand Rail) content in January!
The Santa Fe update is finally here! This is by far the largest update since Rolling Line's release, and includes brand new American trains, props and a new official map!
The new map is inspired by some historical hot-spots of the Santa Fe Super Chief, like Pasadena Station (Los Angeles) and parts of the Arizona desert, like the Canyon Diablo Railway Bridge and Winona.
You can access the new official layout by simply starting a new game from the main menu, and choosing the "Santa Fe" map.
This map was made using tons of new custom track props that are also included in this update, like new buildings, classic cars, canyon rocks, bridges, traffic props and new colors.
Though the star of the show is the new EMD F7 locomotive, along with the Super Chief streamliner passenger cars.
Since this is quite a large update, here's the full list of changes made:
Added F7 locomotive, A & B units in both the Warbonnet and Bluebonnet paint schemes
Added 4x steamliner passenger cars
Added 5x 1950's classic cars
Added flipped level crossings, for American roads
Added clock as individual placeable prop
Added painters to remove & add ballast to track (you can use this to hide ballast on bridges/roller coasters
Added special new main-menu scenes to celebrate the update
Added new table wall segments with no black roof attached
The sky continues up onto the roof in the custom table room now
Props now still randomize their scale if you change it (e.g. making trees very small will still have a slight randomized scale)
reduced the near-clip of cameras on PC (makes items visible closer to your eyes)
Changed how pausing time on the menu works, time will now resume with any movement (you use to need to move quite a distance away, which was confusing)
Fixed bug where items on your belt were still active in miniature
Fixed bug where a controller would still show a train driving when a new save was loaded
Fixed issues with items like controllers/magazine racks not being hidden in miniature
Plus - made some small changes to the Big Boy model, which looks much cooler now
This update has been in the works for a while, and is certainly the largest update for Rolling Line I've ever worked on. This should be an example of the kind of "themed updates" i'm going to be making in the future!
Custom liveries for the F7 and steamliner cars will be coming hopefully within the next week, as a separate update.
Time for another Issue of Model Rolling Line! This issue features a tour of DeathRowTull's famous Nevada, Arizona and Utah layout.
You can find the new magazine issue in-game or you can also read it on the Gaugepunk Games website
Along with the new magazine issue, there are a couple of small fixes included in this update:
Fixed issue with flexytrack where painted colors & styles were re-set when the track was picked up/places again.
Made changes to how points (turnouts) are saved, hopefully this solves problems with points swapping values when saved.
Oh, and a modified Big Boy (made to look like a Challenger) was also added, and hidden behind an Easter egg. Ask around and i'm sure you can find out how to access it.
Here's something heaps of people have been wanting, American boxcars!
There are a range of colors in the game already (which you can find on the 19th draw). Plus this new boxcar model has custom livery support! heaps of liveries have already been added just overnight on the Steam workshop!
These are some of the different designs in the game:
And here are some custom liveries you can already download on the Steam Workshop:
Here's a few small changes also in this update:
Added 3-tier slow movement for PC. when you tap CTRL you can now toggle between 3 different levels of slowed movement (perfect for precise building).
added a black 'room color' painter.
Improved the collision on tables (which in turn improves the snapping responsiveness)
The Halloween mode skybox and unique main menu can be turned on again in the "gameplay -> time & weather -> advanced" menu.
Made minor improvements & fixes to the snapping system.
You can find the new livery templates for the boxcar in your Rolling Line install folder, then "modding -> templates".
The Santa Fe update is also well into development! It will hopefully be ready near the end of November, and is going to bring new trains as well as a new official layout to the game (and tons of new props).
