This update adds a ton of improvements, features and bug fixes surrounding custom tables!

There's heaps of stuff in this update, so here's the full list:
  • Added a new "wooden" style of table! you can use the painters in the table draw to change the style of tables.
  • There is now a "table snap to grid" option, which makes table segments follow a grid when being placed freely.
  • Added new smaller table pieces.
  • You can now hold Shift (on PC) while using a painter to paint all props in a radius. When used on track it will paint all connected track within a set distance.
  • Added a coffee mug prop.

  • Tables now copy height & scale when snapping onto another table.
  • Collision on tables is now much better.
  • Flickering shadows on PC are now fixed!
  • Fixed bug where the in-train-controller wouldn't show up when switching to miniature.
  • Switchboards are now hidden in the distance.
  • The custom table switchboard is now properly hidden.
  • Fixed issues with the "edit table" toggle not working correctly.
  • table segments have their position saved correctly (the values use to round up/down which would result in slight misalignment).
  • Added a base to the large rock prop mesh.

There's lots of interesting stuff coming in the next few updates, along with other features being added to custom tables along the way.

Enjoy!

Today's update finally adds custom table building to the game!

You can now build your own tables of essentially any size, and upload them to the Steam workshop. Choose "custom table" as your map when starting a new game to use the new table features!

Use the "snap to angle" option in the custom track menu to lock tables to 90 degree angles, and use the "table snapping" option to set whether tables snap together or are freely placed.

This is only the first release of custom tables, and there are still many features I'll be adding over the next few weeks (e.g. custom item drawer locations, custom switch boards, more table pieces, etc).

Here are a few other features also included in this update:
  • Liveries are now automatically given the correct wagon type tags to help organize the Steam workshop.
  • Overly large and small props are now scaled to fit in your hand when being held (e.g. large props like the ferry are scaled down when picked up).
  • The most recent save (used for the "resume" and "quicksave" buttons) is now set correctly.
  • Added distance LOD to rubbish bins and drawers.

I can't wait to see the kinds of maps people will be able to make with all this new freedom, it's going to be amazing!

Enjoy!

Today's update adds a range of small features, namely a new set of painters that allow you to make props transparent!

Use the two new painters to change between solid color & transparent, then combine with any other color.

You can use this to make a bunch of neat stuff, like see-through water and misty clouds:

The other two major features of this update are:

Context-sensitive help text, which shows PC key controls (this can be disabled in the "misc" menu).

You can now also rotate props on all axes using some debug controls. You need to enable "advanced controls" under the "misc" menu for this to be an option! once you have, you can rotate props dynamically using the numpad.

Here is a full list of what else is included in this update:
  • Changing your height on PC with the scroll wheel is now much more accurate and has a larger height range.
  • There are now options for switching between toggle & hold for the shift and control keys.
  • Props in your hand will now highlight if shift is held (this means a copy of the prop will be kept in your hand after placing).
  • Points now default to straight instead of curved.
  • Fixed bug with painting track styles that would make a tunnel show up.
  • Fixed issue where you would push objects around if your head got too close on PC.

Custom tables are underway!
This is my main focus at the moment. Expect the beginnings of custom tables to be included in an update in the next few weeks.

Enjoy!

This update adds a bunch of new scenery props as well as some general game improvements like loading screens and on-disc save files.

The new props include Lupin flowers & tussock:

Along with some desert cactus:

But these cactus props can also be painted to make for a bunch of other things, like a coral reef:

Some new lamp post, fence, rubbish bin and bollards have been added (they are also paintable):

Here is a full list of what else is included in this update:
  • Loading screens added to saving and loading of layouts.
  • Added option to load only custom track (and not the main layout) on startup, which reduces loading times if you are only using custom track.
  • Added a setting that swaps between fast and slow speed when changing the height/scale of custom objects.
  • Moved to new save system where saves are stored as files under "Rolling Line/Saves". saves will be converted to files when you next save over them (or make a new save).
  • Added help text to livery example textures that shows where wheel & coupler colors are mapped to.
  • Added new blue painter color

Lots of general fixes in this update as I work on the custom tables. The new props should hopefully make for some new ideas for your custom track!

Today's update adds a bunch of small features and fixes along with some new props and liveries!

Most of all you can now make custom liveries for the Big Boy, its tender, and the coal wagon.

There are also some new terrain pieces and props.

The new props are:
  • Station platform (without the building).
  • Various pipes and railings as their own props.
  • A new type of fence.
  • Several more basic shapes like a pyramid, sphere, vertical walls and cylinders.
  • A new (ish) wagon! there is now an empty version of the crane machinery wagon.
  • A darker brown painter has also been added.

embankment terrain pieces have also been added.
These are pieces of terrain with a flat top that are designed to be placed underneath elevated track to help smoothly line up track with terrain.

Remember to place this terrain on elevated track! it will be hidden under the table if you try and use it like normal terrain (though you can still change the height like all objects)

Here are also examples of all the new liveries:

Please note that the Big Boy livery is simplified, since the Big Boy is much more complex (and larger) than the smaller steam engine and it would be a complete mess to texture every inch of it.

Here is the full list of features and fixes also included:
  • You can now adjust prop height (as well as scale) in VR with a new setting in the custom track menu. You must choose between up/down buttons changing scale or height (not both at the same time)
  • Added bottoms to some terrain pieces that use to be invisible from below.
  • Fixed issue with track flicking between up/down angles when changing the gradient
  • Fixed the odd prop rotation glitch again (where props would sometimes be spun randomly after placing)
  • Fixed a big memory management issue with custom liveries (where refreshing the "edit/add livery" menu would soak up tons of RAM)
  • Fixed the set of track editing buttons that was misplaced under the table
  • Removed "smooth scaling" setting and tweaked scaling values. remember you can use the scroll wheel to scale props in snappy increments, but you can also use PageUp/PageDown to smoothly change scale.

Now that all the liveries are done I'll be putting lots of focus into custom table building (but i've also got a fun little "themed" update idea in the works!)

Enjoy!

You can now make custom liveries for the steam engine and tender!

Though since steam locomotives are quite complicated there are two options for making a livery, either using the advanced model (with full control) or using a simpler model that makes placing a logo/texture on the side/front of the train much simpler and easier.

Here's what the simple option is like:

and here is the advanced option:

and here is the tender:

More liveries (like the big boy & coal wagon) will be coming soon as a 'part 2' to this update!

This update also includes a small fix to a bug that made smoke and wheels of steam trains visible when they should be hidden.

As i'm sure many of you will love, both steam engines now have animated wheels & wheel rods!

Here's a bunch of little features and fixes in preparation for custom liveries for steam engines:
  • Animated steam engine wheels
  • Both steam engines also have new unique whistles
  • You can now press Capslock (only on PC) while driving a train to sound the horn
  • Scale and height offset are copied when cloning a prop
  • Added a smaller level crossing prop that doesn't have a barrier arm & bells
  • Added a range of 'fake' signal props. They look just like the signals on the main layout but don't actually react to trains (this will be coming as its own update in the future)
  • Fixed missing audio on level crossings
  • Fixed broken tunnel mesh on one of the tight turn track pieces

Next week I'll be adding custom livery support for both steam engines! (the Big Boy and Marlborough Flyer) and after that ill be starting work on custom table building, which will be quite a big feature, and may take a bit longer than the usual update.

Enjoy!

Today's update adds a bunch of nice features, along with a huge improvement to the train movement on custom track!

You have probably noticed "lurching" movement on long trains on custom track, where wagons would push/pull in weird ways, along with trains decoupling and derailing often.
Well this has entirely been fixed!
It was actually all being caused by a really simple issue, but now your trains should be smooth as butter.

Here are the other features included in this update:
  • Added new track color styles that you can paint track with (white concrete sleepers and black model railway style sleepers)
  • Added two new pieces of track with much sharper curves (excellent for tight helixes and tram lines!)
  • Improved collision on track pieces.
  • Planes will now show up in the sky on custom maps (just like the main layout)
  • Extended building space on custom layouts, which means scenery placed further outside the table will show up in miniature.

  • Added a palm tree that is paintable
  • The car and bus props are now paintable
  • The vineyard field prop is also now paintable

  • Fixed issues with connecting track to the ends of flexy track
  • Fixed error that caused a broken menu when trying to update a livery or layout

The next major feature to look forward to will be custom table shapes and modular table building, so get ready to make layouts in whatever shape you want!

But before then I'll be adding some smaller features like custom liveries on steam engines.

Enjoy!

I'm sure everyone will be very happy about this one!

Today's update adds "gap filling" track, which can be used to easily (and smoothly) connect two dead ends of track.
Gone are the days of frustratingly trying to line up track.

There are also a few other features:
  • "roll" angle on gradient track is gone, so you wont end up with twisted angles on your track (making a helix is now possible)
  • Added an "undo" button on the save menu, that will undo the last 'delete', 'save over' or 'quicksave' you did.
  • Added a "recover last session" button to the save menu, that will load the last map you left (either from quitting the game, going to the main menu, or loading a save by accident).
  • Added an option for "smooth" scaling when placing props, this makes scaling with the scroll wheel much more precise, and also allows for smooth scaling when using PageUp & PageDown. Turn this off for the original "snap" style, which has its own benefits
  • Fixed collision on the large rock props
  • Fixed issue with picking up and placing tunnel-painted track
  • Fixed trains decoupling on lag spikes (hopefully)
Enjoy!
And have fun building tracks without the stress of misaligned track

Tunnels are finally in custom track!
You can now build tunnels on your custom layouts along with a bunch of new terrain features and new props.

Some new prop placing controls have been added too.
You can now use the scroll wheel (or pageup/pagedown or your "up/down" buttons in VR) while placing a prop to change its scale. This means you can freely change the scale of any custom object!

On PC you can also hold shift while placing a prop to change the height offset (also using the scroll wheel). this is incredibly useful for placing objects at a specific height, or building terrain.

You can make tunnels by "painting" track with the tunnel painter, much in the same way as painting colors and track styles. There are props for tunnel ends and individual tunnel segments (for more complex tunnels). you can also make double-track tunnels by manually placing larger tunnel segments.

There are quite a few new features in this update, so here is a full list:
  • Added tunnel painter and tunnel end props
  • Added ability to change prop scale (scroll-wheel while placing)
  • Added ability to change prop height offset (scroll-wheel + shift while placing)
  • Added "snap to angle" setting, which aligns props and track to 90 degree angles
  • Added a range of simple geometric shapes like cubes and ramps
  • Added multiple new paintable trees, rocks and terrain segments
  • Added some brown colored painters
  • Added collision to custom track at all times, and changed collision on some objects
  • Added "Clear all custom props" option, which deletes all props from a save, leaving only track (great for re-using the track from a previous layout)
  • Fixed bug where trains would float in the air if placed on certain track
  • Fixed bug which broke the workshop update menu
  • Fixed bug with object view distance setting on infinite causing invisible props
  • Items in your hands and on your belt are now not included in saves (this would always leave a pile of props on the floor where you saved)
  • Added options to enable/disable editing on the "global" region (areas outside of custom track tables). this is useful for building scenery on the main layout, or just anywhere outside of workbench space.

Enjoy!

In other news, I just did the Tranz Alpine rail journey here in NZ last weekend, and it was excellent. Future "Southern Alps" expansion will be coming one day without a doubt!
