Yes, we'd like you to have a higher-resolution robe too

Officially official: Skyrim is officially the fastest-selling title in Steam’s official history. And that’s official. Neither Valve or Bethesda are giving specific sales figures, but Bethesda have claimed that the Skyrim PC outsold any other PC game in North America three to one in its first month. It’s been a success elsewhere too: across all platforms and all territories, the dragon-bothering game has now racked up 10m in sales.

Said Valve’s boss of business dev, Jason Holtman, to Industry Gamers: “Skyrim is the fastest selling title in Steam’s history. Bethesda’s commitment to and understanding of the PC as a gaming platform shows in the great review scores, spectacular launch, and continued high player numbers that Skyrim has received. We are delighted that Bethesda chose to use Steamworks to support Skyrim both at retail and digitally.”> Let me, ah, just pick him up on part of that. (more…)

Skyrim is Steam's Fastest-Selling Game. Ever.Amidst some back-slapping and self-congratulation over the impressive sales of Skyrim since its release (10 million copies shipped) came one very impressive piece of information from Valve.

It's the fastest-selling game in Steam history.

Jason Holtman, Director of Business Development at Valve, revealed the fact to IndustryGamers yesterday, and given how Steam is almost the default retailer for much of the PC community, that's saying a lot.

Not everything, since Valve continues to keep its sales figures to itself, but a lot.

The Stranger’s Dream $1 DLC for Bastion Sheds Light on the Narrator’s Past, Makes Things Easier or Harder It's been a day of surprises for fans of Bastion. First, they announce that you can play the gravel-voiced adventure in the Chrome browser. And now comes word that they'll be releasing DLC for the game next week. (This comes after saying that they'd never make any.)

The Stranger's Dream add-on hits on 12/14 for $1 and, as the title suggests, expands the backstory of the mysterious narrator. It also opens up two new modes. The customizable Score Attack lets you mix and match from the unlocked Spirits and Idols modifiers to rack up as many points as you can while the cakewalk No Sweat provides minimal challenge for those who just want to experience the story. This DLC will be available for Bastion for Chrome, too, in the next few weeks. The XBLA version will cost $1 and the Steam version comes as a free title update. More details can be found at Supergiant's website.

Sonic's Casino Night Pinball Comes to PC on Dec. 26The "Casino Night Pinball" minigame that console gamers got for preordering the game will be available to PC gamers via Steam on Dec. 26. It'll only run you $1.59 in the U.S. (Overseas, it's £0.99, €1.59, $2.99 in Australia).

In the minigame, you play as either classic Sonic or modern Sonic, and he's the pinball. Modern Sonic has a limited number of boosts, but otherwise the two are identical. Sega released these three screenshots with the announcement.

Still no word on when or if this will be made available over Xbox Live or PlayStation Network.

Black veils all round.

It’s a strange sight, seeing APB back on Steam, a year after it went away. Of course this is the new version, brought back to life by K2 Networks, reinvented as a free-to-play game. Which as of today can now be played-for-free via Steam. So, you gonna?

And here’s a sweet thing – the image above is captured from the new version of the game’s opening video. Is it sweet? Or is it slightly creepy? I can’t decide. Cheers Craig>.

Fewer People Get Married in Skyrim Than Finish ItWhat have you accomplished in Skyrim? You've probably not finished it and it's even less likely you've reached Level 50 or gotten married.

Millions of people have played this year's biggest role-playing game. Millions have gotten pleasantly lost in its numerous quests and expansive landscape. Along the way, those people have achieved many things, much of it tallied by the game's Achievement system. Let's see what people have done the most and what Skyrim goals they've avoided or failed to accomplish.

We're going to ignore Skyrim's console gamers in this piece (insert apology for implied insult here). Let's drill into the stats for PC gamers, specifically those who got the game through the Steam service. Steam tracks Achievements. It doesn't tell us how many Skyrim players it is collecting data from—I asked Skyrim's publisher for them and will add them if I get them—but it breaks down the percentages of what they have done.

The Steam Achievements are ranked in order of accomplishment. The top ones have been achieved by the most players, the bottom ones by the fewest.

The most commonly achieved Skyrim Achievement is Unbound, which is nearly impossible to avoid. You earn it when you leave the game's first cave, a cave that births you from the game's linear introductory chapter into the open world of Skyrim. Any Skyrim players who missed this Achievement probably didn't even start the game, or shut it off a half hour or so into it. Note that 7 out of 100 Skyrim players on Steam fit this category:

The next batch of Achievements shows how sharply people's progress falls off. Skyrim is an enormous game and not everyone will proceed through the same quests or even bother to keep up with the main quest. Nearly 8 of 10 Skyrim players hit level 10, which happens fairly quickly, maybe even in a single, long afternoon with the game. But attaining level 25, which took one of our staffers 25 hours, has only been achieved by fewer than 5 out of 10 Skyrim players.

Just over half of Steam's Skyrim's players bothered to buy a house.

Only 3 of 10 players wandered far enough to find 100 locations. Only a quarter of the people playing joined the Dark Brotherhood.

We're dropping into some of the rarest Skyrim feats. Since you mostly get dragon souls from killing dragons, it doesn't look like many people have managed to slay 20 dragons.

Next, take a look at the Dragonslayer Achievement. That's what you get for finishing the game. It's rare. Fewer than 2 out of 10 players have attained it. But that's more than the amount who have gotten married in the game. That's barely 1 out of 10 players.

Finally, we get to the things almost no one has done. Reaching Level 50? Almost unheard of. Becoming a Master Criminal? No one does that.

You can take a look at these Steam Achievements yourself, as they change with each passing day. Just load up Steam, go to the Skyrim section and click the option to see Global Achievements.
