Temtem's launch has been something of a roller coaster, as while the game has experienced significant demand, it's also been struggling to keep up with said numbers. Thankfully it seems the situation is now under control, as developer Crema says it's managed to stabilise the servers.
Launched in early access on Tuesday, Temtem is essentially Pok mon but an MMO - and this popular combination earned it a peak of nearly 32k players on Steam. Unfortunately, this started causing problems, with players experiencing long queue times, login problems and lag issues. At one point Crema had to cap the game at 20k players, and noted players could request a refund if they didn't want to wait for the servers to stabilise. At least the community seems to be making light of it.
Judging by the honest (and quite sweet) flow of updates on Temtem's Twitter, the team's been working diligently to get things back up and running - and after multiple hotfixes and server restarts, Temtem says it can now deal with over 27k users at once.
If you’ve spent the past two decades fantasising about enslaving wild creatures to do your bidding, boy howdy, do I have good news. Temtem is a Pokemon-inspired MMO for PC that came out on early access yesterday. Everything you know and love from the Pokemon games you were never allowed to play is here. Gyms are dojos, trainers are tamers, and your menagerie of adorable fighting beasts use elemental attacks in turn-based battles. It is Pokemon with synonyms and multiplayer. You might like that.
Temtem, an eye-catching massively-multiplayer take on Pok mon, arrives today on PC via Humble and Steam Early Access.
If you're not familiar with the game already, it's a blend of exploration, monster catching and battling developed by Crema, the small Spanish indie team behind excellent roguelike Immortal Redneck, and published by Humble.
Its inspiration is obvious - there's no getting around that. But its in Temtem's differences where my interest lies. The ability to combo attacks in new ways using two creatures in battle, for instance. Or being able to explore Temtem's world with a pal - and square up to them for a battle.
Temtem is a rather simple game to grasp the basics of, but there will be some hurdles to overcome if you’re used to that other monster-catching game – Pok mon. While some Temtem types can have their strengths and weaknesses worked out rather quickly, there are some others that may seem rather alien, most notably Digital and Crystal. I’ve created a Temtem type chart to help you with knowing which moves to use in battles at all times.
With the Early Access release of Temtem, the impossible has finally happened. There is now a Pok mon like game available on PC, that is also a MMO, filling a niche that frankly I’m surprised hasn’t already been filled. As the game will be available to the public for the first time, you may wish to get up to speed with the basics. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with a useful chart and some advice to get you started.
If Temtem looks like a Pokemon game to you, that’s because it absolutely is a lot like Pokemon. The Applin doesn’t fall far from the Sudowoodo yes, it’s a Pokemon joke on a PC website. If you weren’t familiar with the brightly colored creature catching MMO before, now is a decent time to change that. The game comes out on January 21st, but you can sign up to join the public stress test before release for free.
