Comrades! While we are making the continuation of the game, you keep breaking the stuff that was already made, and that’s cool! In cases when our script writer is frustrated as a vegetable and is communicating with the cosmos (and this happens all the time), the programmer starts picking his nose out of boredom. Such an activity is bad for the shape of his fingers, he still has a lot of code to write, so we try to engage him in doing other things (assembling Rubic’s cubes, embroidery, etc.) With your help, it’s much easier to make the programmer do something useful, because you find very interesting bugs that we try to fix… or try to make you think that this is not a bug, but a feature. We made a small update and here’s the list of some important bugs that we fixed. (Spoiler alert!)

  1. When you were sitting comfortably in a vehicle while installing an oxygen station, a container, or the crap imposed by the developers, they tended to be installed in the point of your sitting in a vehicle (which could happen on the other side of the map). Such magic won’t happen anymore.
  2. When picking up an item’s blueprint that was already researched on the research table, the table got peeved and stopped working. We punished the table and fixed this bug.
  3. When throwing a corpse from a long distance at bare wires in the communication point the quest didn’t count as complete. We fixed this.
  4. After passing chapters 2-3, the marker for Normandy shouldn’t disappear anymore (although, yeah, there’s no use in it at the moment).
  5. When you decreased the radiation 6 times lower and then immediately saved and loaded the game, you didn’t get the task of exploring space. Maybe it was for the better, what is there to explore? But we fixed it anyway.
  6. Your lovingly built space station broke down and holes appeared in it even when you weren’t anywhere near it. This is realistic, however, we didn’t plan it to be like that, so we fixed it. Now the station breaks down as we intended it to, only when you are near it.
  7. The enemy replaced the pages in the encyclopedia and some categories didn’t coincide with the items. You noticed it and we fixed it.
  8. Having magic abilities like David Copperfield you could pass through the closed door of the service module. Unfortunately, you can’t do this now.
  9. The information trigger near Knight-Errant created a marker that led nowhere. We fixed this, so now it doesn’t do that.
  10. Added the discharge cell description. Although it’s quite understandable without a description that a discharge cell is a discharge cell and that it discharges something and you can find it in some place where something discharges. Easy peasy!
  11. Some items in the game cloned themselves and we fixed that. However, if you saved after the cloning happened, the already cloned items will remain, but the new ones won’t appear.
  12. Added a sound effect when you pick up the crap imposed by the developers. We know how “important” that is, but you asked us to add it.
  13. If you loaded right after sending cowchickens to space, the control panel stopped working and you couldn’t complete the quest with the bio module because of that. We fixed that.
  14. Fixed the bug with disappearing showcases with dead hamsters and built-in containers. This fix works only for saves before you noticed the item’s disappearance. Otherwise, you won’t be able to restore the disappeared item — space has devoured it.

So it goes. And as always, we are available for your feedback, suggestions, and bugs. You can send them via anything, but it’d be more convenient for all of us if you join our Discord troops. Although, a good ol’ mail will do as well (if it’s not the snail one).

Did you miss us? We were busy dealing with the issue of the game not working on some computers and found the answer: the cosmic space expanded and started to use up 4100 Mb of RAM. So it appears that those who have a 4 Gb RAM automatically get an infinite loading screen as a bonus to the game. Those who have more than 4 Gb but less than 7 Gb get their personal black screen because of the RAM being used up by other programs. For example, the system uses 1,5 Gb, 80 browser tabs with embroidery patterns use 2 GB, and then our Man gets launched and uses up 4,1 Gb. So how much does it add up to? Right, 7,6 Gb. The lucky owners of 8 Mb of RAM can play the game, while others get… something.

So, how do we solve this issue? The easiest thing would be to ignore the problem due to the small number of players having less than 8 Mb of RAM (there are not more than 15% of them on Steam, and even fewer of them playing Breathedge). But this would be unfair, not interesting, cruel, and well, we love our players and pain as well. That’s why we will try to optimize the game and reinvent the wheel. In the meantime...

In the meantime, we found a temporary solution for those who have 4-6 GB of RAM (it depends on how much your system is loaded). We made a separate branch of the game. To launch the game, open Steam, find Breathedge in the Library and right-click on it. A menu will open and you should click on Properties, then BETAS, and then choose “optimized –” from the dropdown list. That’s it! You can download it and try to run the game.

We rewrote the mechanics of loading the level in the above-mentioned version. This won’t work well on powerful hardware and will cause a lot of issues, but it will do for computers with little RAM. This version uses up 2,8 Gb of RAM, so if the system works well, Breathedge should work on computers with 4 Gb of RAM. This version won’t crash your saves and in general, it is a very good one. However, it has one small drawback. When loading the game, the lucky users of 4 Mb of RAM will see empty space during some time (ab. 10-15 sec), and with that, the Man can already fly and collect resources. Don’t be scared and don’t rush to get stuck in a vanished wall. It should take some time for the world to load.

So that’s the temporary solution for the time being. We’ll try to make it work more elegantly.

Ah, yes. A great thank you to those who help us and who helped us find this issue. We are especially thankful to Саша#1587 who dedicatedly kicked the dead game a lot, helping us subdue its "voraciousness".

If you would like to drop us some nice lines, or some very nice lines, you are welcome to do that in our Discord channel or via e-mail. They are good for bad messages as well, but nobody knows about that.

Update 0.9.2.8

Comrades! Launching the Man into space went well! However, there were several issues that overshadowed his stay there, but we are working on them.

We fixed one of the serious saving errors when players fervently transferred the save file from the first chapter and received... nothing, or a beautiful window with an error. This happened because they did it manually without an autosave file. There should be no such error now.

The second serious issue is the game’s committing suicide on old PC configurations, despite the fact that the first chapter worked well. We cannot guarantee that the game will work on hardware which is weaker than the minimum requirements, but we try our best for the owners of any configurations. We are now sorting this out and trying to understand what exactly overloads the old hardware, why, and where (if you are one of those lucky people whose game worked in the first chapter and committed suicide in the second one, please contact us via e-mail or discord, if you want to help us test the game).

For sure, you might write angry reviews. But before doing that, if you have any problems with the game, please describe them, and attach some logs/screenshots/videos. You can send us an e-mail or message us via Discord. After that, you can dislike the game, ask Steam for a refund, and try to identify us by our IP address. However, without your description of the problems, we may not find them. Why else do we need early access? Thank you!

Comrades! The time has come to dust off your spacesuits, put on your space diapers, and wrap yourself in electrical tape because Breathedge continues!

Everyone was expecting us to shift the release date again and made beautiful posters with obscene slogans. Well, that was in vain. Today, in spite of global warming, two new chapters of the epic saga about the simple Man will be released (or they have been released already if you are reading this piece of news a bit later than it was planned).

Before briefly describing what the new chapters are about, we cannot help but share a unique commercial from the Breathedge Global Funeral Agency, which you can easily see on TV if your calendar shows the year 2073. Let’s go!

https://youtu.be/P7kR858RNqg

Here we are! The future is beautiful, or do you still have any doubts about it? We don’t have any either. We’ve got a small trailer left, timed to the release of the new chapters, and designed to show that we can fill in the background with the red color and make large captions right on top of the video.

https://youtu.be/9Soj148d8Z4

Be-e-a-a-u-u-tifull. Nope, we're talking not about the trailer. While you were watching it, we were watching the mating dance of the striped spiny lobster on TV, as usual. But oh well. Did you notice that many new things appeared in the game? We didn’t, because the description of all these goodies was already included in one of the previous big pieces of news. Please follow the link if you don’t remember:

https://steamcommunity.com/games/738520/announcements/detail/1606009229964077125

However, if the trailer and the robots are something new to you and you were taught not to follow suspicious links in your childhood, then we simply have to briefly tell you what is included in the current update, by showing you pictures from the previous pieces of news. So:

Breathedge will have two new chapters telling the further story of the Man, his immortal chicken, Babe, coffin robots, and the wrecked liner “Unnamed”. This is not the end of the story, however, the denouement is near. Probably.

The game’s world will expand because the story can be continued only in new places. In general, this is what will appear in the game: several cubic kilometers of garbage, 40,000 new words, about 120 interesting and extremely useless points with collectibles, 6 cutscenes (with poor animation, we remember we promised that), and 530 new voiced lines of the cheerful spacesuit. Or maybe not 530, but something around that number.

There will be even more items for littering your pockets with: about 15 new resources; about 15 new tools, from a blaster to a brand new enhanced handy scrapper and a grenade; a dozen new types of equipment, which will include various types of spacesuits each having their own special features (if you don’t mind dragging them around with you).

Finally, the Man gets to own a car and a “Rocket” vacuum cleaner. It’s prohibited to drive them without a license, but you’ll do anything to survive, won’t you?

We’d also like to mention some robots that will bring life to this uncosy and dark space. Well, it’s not quite accurate to call it “life” when it comes to robots, but at least they can move sometimes and even shoot you in the back.

The construction of space stations will become a large and difficult thing for learning. You can construct them anywhere, and as many as you want. Or not construct them at all. Although surviving in space will be much harder without a station. You can use a station to rest and fill in the oxygen, or you can use it as a luxurious home for a real bachelor, with a bed, a TV, a food processor for crafting stuff, dead comrades, a shiny toilet, dozens of different items, equipment, and decor. There are about 50 different blocks and decor elements, that is if you find their blueprints.

There will be more languages. All three chapters will be not only in Russian and English but also in German, French, and Chinese languages (although the audio will still be available only in Russian and English, at least for now).

And certainly, there will be more other small pleasant things, such as different game modes, even for those who don’t like wasting their oxygen, dozens of achievements, a minigame, more settings, freezing autosaves, and even an easy way out by using Alt+F4.

That’s it!

Or not? It’s more like a “not”, as it’s not the game release. The story of the Man isn’t over yet, but we are planning to finish it by two more chapters, as cool and boring as they can be. We won’t tell you about our future plans, but we will certainly let you know when we have any.

And another important thing: due to the fact that the current update is way bigger than when it was initially, it affected all the possible parts of the projects, including the ones in the first chapter. If you used to see beautiful space earlier, but after the update you see a beautiful prince trying to kiss you instead — don’t hesitate and tell us about it in Discord, or send us your messenger chicken.

Comrades, it’s almost September 3!

This means only one thing — the adventures of the simple Man in space are about to continue. To be more exact, two new chapters of Breathedge will be released on September 3, 2019, at 10:00 AM PT.

We’d like to remind you that it’s a free update that will ruin neither your saves nor your nervous system and mind. Well, we are not exactly sure about your nerves though, or your mind and saves.

The upcoming chapters consist not only of space expanded with more debris, but also of the continuation of the story, vehicles, station building, decor, many new tools, equipment, resources, collectibles, and other different kinds of garbage.

The game will include enemies, that is if you find them. If you don’t find them, they will appear anyway, as well as new game modes, many additional settings, minor additions, and features you asked for.

And as we promised, the game will include German, French and Chinese localizations. This is not the complete list of languages that we’d like to see in the release, as we haven’t learned any more of them yet.

Please follow the link below to learn more (spoiler alert): https://steamcommunity.com/games/738520/announcements/detail/1606009229964077125

There will be a 30% discount as well! Everyone who likes to count, by using simple calculations will be able to determine the coefficient of our greed. Those who don’t like to count... ok, the coefficient is three. So it goes.

Don’t forget to join our discord channel for quick communication, as well as for expressing ideas, solving life problems, and just for informal communication through emoticons.

Comrades! Did you expect that the release of the new chapters will be on September 5? Well, don’t. We’re shifting it to September 3. Inconsistency is a sign of genius, or someone just spoiled our release date with their major release.

In any case, this news is not exactly about the release date. As we reported earlier, there will be a discount with the release of the new chapters, but in the next few days, the game’s price will increase (we showed the exact table of the new prices in the previous piece of news, but we will post it again here). We’ve previously mentioned that the price will increase with the release of the new chapters, but why it will increase a month before the release is a question. In fact, this is connected with some very complex technical features on Steam, which we will now try to explain to you in detail. So, to make a discount, you mustn’t change the price for a month. That’s all.

We’re done with the technical features, so now let’s move on to the ethical ones. Due to the fact that the price of the game will increase, and nothing new will appear in it for another month, we strongly recommend refraining from purchasing this masterpiece at the inflated price until September 3. With the release of the new chapters, not only will you get a serious expansion of the game, but also by a good 30% discount.

So it goes.

Oh, right! Someone might have noticed the appearance of some new undiscovered achievements. Please note, that you can’t unlock them before the release of the new chapters. This is how we work and spoil everyone’s statistics.

When is the New Update Coming?
The release of the two new chapters of Breathedge will be on September 5.

The following video shows you the approximate content of the upcoming release (there might be spoilers, so stay alert and close your eyes at the right moments):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SAI_qmUhmA

This information was for the League of Lazyheads so that they wouldn’t make an effort to look for the most important information in the long scroll of the text below. For all the rest of you: welcome to the world of letters!

First of all, a few words about the date of the release. Is it an exact one? Yes. There might be some exceptions, though. We might of course say that September 5 happens in November, but this would require a very good explanation. On the other hand, the release of the chapters may take place a week earlier or later, depending on the schedule of major releases of our rivals’ games, the sales of which we nobly do not want to ruin with our masterpiece. But in general, the date is final and not subject to major changes.

Secondly, we would like to warn you that below we are going to tell you in detail and show you what kind of work has been done during all this time, and therefore, some spoilers and various other indecent things might pop up, so please move away from your screen if you think your feelings might get hurt.

As we mentioned earlier, we chose the path of making updates in the form of large, complete episodes, rather than small frequent updates. This has its advantages, but there are also disadvantages (most of which you can read in the negative reviews about the project on Steam). In any case, things are as they are, and in September two large chapters will appear, inextricably linked to each other so that it would be blasphemy to separate them.

Before starting a boring listing of all the innovations, we would like to demonstrate the difference in volume between the first chapter and the two new ones. We will resort to comparison further on, but for now, we will show just the general chart.

We are not so good at making charts, but believe us, the difference here is quite impressive.

The Plot is too Short!
The new chapters of Breathedge will smoothly continue the narration from the same point when the first chapter of the game ended. This is logical, and even the saved files should not crash (if someone’s saves commit suicide and terminate themselves, then most likely, we are not the ones to blame, you should blame the eighth season of the Game of Thrones in this case). We will not tell you about the details of the plot, but in general, it’s about the Man in space... um, no! John Snow could have used his influence in Westeros much better! Ok, alright. The Man will continue to deal with the same vastness of space, his spacesuit, survival situations, and will find many small pieces of the history of the large liner “Unnamed”. There will be much more vastness of space and many more pieces of history compared with the first chapter. The total volume of the first chapter is 6000 words (counted according to the localization files). The total volume of the two new chapters is 40,000 words. This is a lot, we suppose. At least we were tired of writing all this with a chisel on stones, and the papyrus was not yet invented at the time when we started to work on the second chapter.

We will also add a lot of interesting areas in space that are not connected with the plot. In the first chapter there were only 17 places with some debris and stories, but in new chapters there will be about 120 of them. And there will be 6 more cutscenes, compared to just one in the first chapter, and 530 voiced phrases in the new chapters, compared with the 96 phrases in the first one. So there’s that!

The World is too Small!
The events of the second and third chapters will unfold in some new places in space. The beginning of the game will not change in any way, therefore, there’s no sense in exploring the starter shuttle. However, the space beyond the captain’s bridge will stretch out to several cubic kilometers of debris, emptiness, and boredom. This is space after all. This is what awaits the Man:

Engineers Cemetery. There will be no tombstones here, of course. But you will see the rest, even robots.

Cooling Gel. There will be a lot of cooling gel and few places where you can defrost the helmet. It will be difficult to explore the surroundings, because there’s no point it making it easy.

Electrical Fields. An unusual area with an unusual story that no one will understand. You can get electrocuted or lose your means of transport in some especially unpleasant places.

Mayonnaise, which is not so easy to swim in, but you will have to. We could have poured this substance everywhere and made an underwater game out of it, but this was already done by someone.

A Communication Point. There’s no communication or point without it.

Military Modules where something valuable was transported apart from military men themselves. The place is dangerous, populated by security robots, turrets, and dead men in uniform.

Food Compartments. At first it may seem that there is a lot of food there, and no secrets at all, but this is untrue. However you still can eat your fill here. Here you can probably find some meat, greens, and a side dish.

Rampant Turrets. There were a lot of anti-asteroid turrets on the liner, and although most of them died along with the plating, some still function. However, they do not function normally and react strongly against unfamiliar Men approaching them.

Other Stuff. Many different smaller areas where you can get electrocuted, freeze, burn, be shot or beaten, suffocate, or get stuck in textures.
The game will have quite a lot of interiors, where you can take a break from weightlessness and wander along narrow corridors, as well as small caves, where in complete darkness you can take a break from narrow corridors and all this beauty.

For illustrative purposes, here’s a comparison of the size of the first chapter and the two new ones. This is not a chart so everything is clear here.

The World is too Big!
Maybe just a bit, although it is difficult to fill it with stuff. Not only interesting additional points help in doing this job, but also more than a hundred new collectible items. All of them are very logical and without jokes. Whoever finds everything is a clever cookie, but most likely they will not know about it.

In addition to the old metal balls, and rolls of cloth, the space spat out about 15 more new resources, from which you can assemble various junk. Helium cylinders, diamond ore, foam rubber, ivory, a pacemaker, and even modelling clay — all of this is not in the game and, most likely, will never be.

You can also replenish your collection of tools, by getting 16 new ones. Here you will finally find the crowbar everyone was looking for in the first chapter. Although it is not exactly a crowbar, but it will be there. There will also be more durable handy scrappers, beef grenades, a blaster, a dispenser, an analyzer, a scraper, and even bribes.

We will add some new types of accelerators and oxygen cylinders. There will also be some new types of spacesuits, which will not just be some lazily made reskins, but will be lazily made reskins with additional unique protective functions. One spacesuit will save from the heat, the second one from the cold, the third will do something else too, and the fourth one will exit the game to the desktop and format your hard drive (just kidding, we didn’t notice anything like that connected with the spacesuit, although there were some similar cases). In total, there will be 11 new types of equipment.

The more different places and objects in the world are, the harder it is to explore it, especially if there is no oxygen or health, and the speed of movement is slightly faster than a cobblestone in the garden. To finally solve this problem the game will have some means of transport, or rather two types of transport. Although everyone already knows which ones they will be, we will remind you that this will be a fast and maneuverable vacuum cleaner motorcycle and a slightly slower, but protected and oxygen-filled car, ZAZ-1. As in real life, you will have to refuel and repair your transport if you knock its bumper on asteroids for a long time, but it will be much easier to survive with it.

Ah, almost forgot. Many players burned our non-existent portraits and tried to send curses on us through rice and buckwheat (ha, that’s a fail, because Chickens are not subject to magic), and all because of the Man's oxygen starvation. We understood these hints, and immediately created the following game modes:

Standard. Everything should be clear here, this is the current mode. It is moderately complex, with the parameters which are important for survival. Oxygen is enough for one breath, and the Man consumes too much food. Everything here is in the same state as we thought of initially and we consider this to be the most balanced and realistic mode.

Story. This mode is for those who suffer from lack of air and do not like to eat every 2 minutes, but at the same time would like to enjoy the uncomplicated history of the world, without cheats, ready-made tools, and open locations. Here you can die from radiation or electricity, for example, but at least you can breathe freely.

Impossible. Everything is the same as in the standard one, but you have only one life. No saves will save you if the Man dies. Why play this? We do not know either.

Free. In the free mode, all parameters are turned off altogether, all blueprints are given, no resources are needed, and there is no plot or tasks. You can build the largest station in the world and drop your FPS to zero, accusing the developers of poor optimization with proofs and screens. That’s marvelous!

There’s no Construction!
Speaking about the largest station: we have already managed to tell you about the possibility of constructing it, showed you some screenshots and even let you pretend to be the greatest architects of all time. In the new chapters, the construction of your own station will be fully implemented for free, no adds, and no need to download the constructor! The space station is not just one of the possibilities of the game, but an important component of survival. Theoretically, you can do without it, but why?

Any station consists of basic modules. There are 11 of them at the moment. (a service module, a transport one, a habitation module, some corridors, and some other ones).

Each module has several replaceable blocks, 22 to be precise, which are the main active elements of the station. A block may not have any useful functions, for example, a window. But it may also expand gaming possibilities, for example, a bed or a processor for crafting stuff. To make it all work, you will have to provide the station with electricity, monitor the oxygen level, protect it against holes and patch them in time, otherwise you can lose the station. At the station, you can relax and replenish your air supplies, get food and resources, study blueprints at the science desk, use a food processor for crafting, collect and put a dozen collectibles on your stands, create your own means of transport, conveniently store things, and throw yourself out of the airlock.

You can not only upgrade the modules with blocks, but also decorate them. In the two new chapters, you can find 34 blueprints of a variety of decorative objects: starting with a TV and a table, and ending with an aquarium and a piano. Some objects can be fastened tightly while others can be kicked around the station. You can even gather collectible items to achieve better interior decor. All these bottles, cigarette butts, and soft toys can be not only dumped in a heap on the outskirts of space, but also beautifully arranged around the module (until you scatter all this beauty around while dragging another nameless corpse with its limbs jerking about).

There are no Enemies!
Space is dead. So it goes. Completely dead, we aren’t kidding, we learned about that from television. Breathedge is a realistic and almost documentary game, and therefore we cannot add any swans or butterflies to it. But on the other hand, it’s about the future, and therefore space will be filled with robots. Most of them died in the crash, but some lucky ones remained intact and are now waiting to encounter the Man’s Handy Scrapper:

Garbage Collector Robot — it may sound corny, but this robot gathers garbage, you’ve guessed right. Having a big bag and a large supply of optimism, these cute guys scurry around the debris, collecting small items. Breaking such a peaceful creature is not only cruel, but also useful, since they have lots of loot.

Cleaner Robot — that very same Buratissos that we mentioned in our previous news. Peaceful, rare, and stupid. There’s nothing remarkable about it, although it is the only robot that will allow itself to be grabbed and dragged along.

Repair Robot — a big beautiful, and also very useful robot, not for the Man though. Repair robots diligently try to repair the remains of the liner, and sometimes make it difficult to pass. It is not recommended to beat them with a stick, because they can electrocute you for this, but you can shoot them or divert them by making them do some minor repairs, and this is safe.

Security Robot — this is the most unpleasant type of robots at the moment, following the coffin robots. The security robots are fast, strong and very aggressive. They will shoot at you if you are far from them. If you are close to them, they will beat your spacesuit with their batons. These robots attack you for no reason and can pursue you for a long time. It’s difficult to destroy them, but it’s possible, although it is easier to bribe them or run away if you are fast enough.

Turret — we have already mentioned it. It’s difficult to call it a robot, but it’s still an enemy. A turret can be destroyed or disabled.

Gatekeeper Robot — this robot is unique and immensely cool. We will tell nothing about it, but let it be here, together with the other ones.

No Chinese Language!
All of the above mentioned things are great: the plot is important, construction is needed, and the resources are useless. However, it would be even better if all this could be explored and understood without a dictionary. The new chapters will be fully localized in Russian and English, for sure, along with voice acting and textures, as in the first chapter. Before the release of the new chapters in September, we will have time to add three more new text localizations (subtitles and an interface with all the descriptions of the items). The new languages will be: German, Chinese, and French. We will expand the number of languages in the future, but for now the local library doesn’t allow us to have more than three phrasebooks at a time.

There’s not Much to Do Here, is There?
We agree. The world of Breathedge is not only space and stupid robots. In the new chapters, it will be possible not only to craft new items, to shoot a bit, and urinate on the TV in the room, but also to open coffins (you won’t be able to get the corpses out, no, but instead you can get some useful data), throw grenades, plant a bomb, get ice from a vending machine with soda, cause a short circuit, stick photos on all the walls in the cabin, set a corpse’s ass on fire, launch some mayonnaise, see some outdated technologies, study a cow’s insides, get the Breathedge core, get more than 20 new achievements, play Clickedge II, see a mutant, learn some more secrets of the Chicken, get an SMS from Babe, say hello to coffin robots, shoot from a giant cannon, launch some obsolete space ships and much more. Space is versatile for sure.

Settings, Bugs, FOV, Refund!
Despite the multiple testings, the players still noticed some errors and bugs in the game, although it’s good that only a very small percentage of them had this. This is what we fixed and added:

  1. The spacesuit’s sentences are now interrupted less frequently. Now it can remember the next sentence, and starts saying it only after the previous one ended.
  2. The buggy inversion of the mouse is now not so buggy now.
  3. Now you can choose the monitor without consulting a fortune teller.
  4. FOV added. Everything will be more fun on wider screens. We didn’t find any narrow ones, but we guess everything will be ok there.
  5. Sometimes the game didn’t correctly identify the monitor resolution in the settings, but we fixed this.
  6. Now you can adject the sound volume of the irritating “BEEP BEEP BEEP” sound of your suit when being low on oxygen. That’s great!
  7. We changed the autosave system. You probably noticed some lagging every time you entered or exited the shuttle . This was the autosave. Now the lagging will remain, but it will occur less frequently (whoa, what an innovation, that’s a great job done!)
  8. We fixed some fatal errors that had to be detected and discussed separately via Discord. Maybe someone will remember them, and shed a tear:
    • an error connected with NVidia aftermath;
    • an error with D3D11Query.cpp;
    • an error with a black screen on Windows N series;
    • an error with AMD FX processors;
    • an error of the game exiting to the desktop after launching it;
    • an error with ShaderCompiler.cpp;
    • an error with the saves being lost because of the StartupData.sav file

  9. We also don’t give up our attempts to improve the optimization to the level of “wow, it works!” especially since the new chapters have a lot of new objects and mechanics which devour FPS with gusto, and do not even choke on them. There is still room for maneuver, so we will continue to work on this.

The Trailer is Crap!
Yep. The trailer is crap. But only if it’s not made by our friends from Anvil Frame Studio. By the way, they finished the work on the live-action trailer, which is dedicated to the release of the second chapter. And yes, they built a full-sized coffin, the one that was in the last piece of news. And it’s not the only thing they built...

What’s Next?
What comes next is a very busy summer. By the end of it we have to manage to finish all the unfinished points in the locations, balance the game, optimize the result, refine thousands of small tasks, like icons for some items, and tags; align the collectible items in the viewer, localize textures and texts, refine various sounds, effects and other things. After that, most likely in the middle of summer and in August,we will start the most active and large-scale testing process, refinement, and testing again. Most likely, it will be possible to ask us for a new version for reviews on YouTube and Twitch.

The first chapter of the game was an independent episode, with few bugs and maximum elaboration of all the gameplay stuff. The second and third chapters shouldn’t be any worse, although there will be a lot to explore and find there, due to the volume of work.

Most likely the price of the game will increase by $5 on August 1. Please go easy on us and try not to buy the first chapter at an inflated price. This is necessary due to some technical points. The release of the two new chapters will be sold at a discount price, and if you want to buy the game, it will be better to do this either before the price increases, or right at the start of the sales in September at a discount. It’s rather complicated, we know.

Here’s a list of future regional prices. And yes, the prices are set by Steam, we use only standard currency conversion and do not touch anything.

So everything is fine, the deadline is close, there is a lot of work, our mood is chicky, and we love you all. So it goes.

Dear gamer comrades!

A very difficult and important month is up ahead for us, namely April, and we are beginning to get more and more questions about further updates, news, new videos, interviews, and so on. Apart from friendly and cordial questions, we also receive an infinite number of aggressive, toxic, and even inhuman threats. They promise to pluck out our feathers, add glass to our grain, fry us, write negative comments on Steam, play the game over two more times, kill the Man on purpose, and so on and so forth. Just look at one of the reviews we received recently:

Unbelievable. The lead developer cried for a week and even wanted to commit seppuku, however, he didn’t know how to do it properly.

Due to serious moral suffering and mental health treatment, using powerful antidepressants mixed with horse tranquilizers and alcohol, we’re not even sure now whether the update will come in April or May, so the update may even be in September. But maybe we can still make it by May...

In any case, there will be some big piece of news about the development in May. We will tell you about the details of the second and third chapters, and also announce the exact date of the update. Happy April Fool’s Day! So it goes.

It’s time for some butthurt:
You won’t get your dessert (yet).
So please stay alert
And don’t rip off your shirt.

The new chapter update’s nigh
But everything goes awry.
“The deadline must die!”
The developers cry.
“Let’s move it to July!”

So sing the song of slackers
And raise our flag with pride,
And chew on cheese and crackers,
We’re moving the deadline!

Developers around the world,
Come join us,
Get your sails furled!
Let’s move our deadlines to an unknown date!
We’ve done it — it feels great!

Greetings to all astronauts and astronautesses in the letter space of the Breathedge universe. We’d like to anticipate your first question and answer it straight away: no, it didn’t hurt at all. Now we’d like to predict your second question: what on earth was the first question about? And this one, unfortunately, we are not able to answer. What we’re able is to break the outer space silence with one or two amazing anecdotes about what we’ve been doing lately, though.

It may be hard to believe, but what we’ve been doing lately is actually developing the second and the third chapters of Breathedge. Fancy that!
Our scenario writer recently became disenchanted with the idea of teaching his tortoise some kung-fu, when it couldn’t win a fight with the desktop shredder, so he finally finished the chapters. We’re not going to reveal all of them to you, of course, but we’re going to give you some random spoiler about, say, the feathered companion of the Man. No doubt you’ve been wondering about the fate and origins of the Chicken and asking yourself questions like: “Why is the Chicken immortal?” and “Is she, or is she not, immortal for reasons?”

The answer is: yes, she is, and yes, for reasons. The Chicken plays a major role in the world of victorious socialism and scientific progress. Her fate is tightly intertwined with the history of the world and reaches for the origins of the Breathedge funeral agency. It won’t be easy to see the full picture, but you will find one of the pieces of this puzzle in the open spaces of the most terrifying, most mysterious, and most secret part of the liner Unnamed, where you can come across the REAL monsters. This is all very serial!

So we’ve told you about the Chicken, now we can talk about some less significant things. We’d like to give you a sneak peek into the details of the expanding world of the game. In the new chapters, we plan to divide the world into several independent space zones, or biomes, if you will. We tactfully keep silent about the exact number of them for reasons that are vile, but important. Each biome will have its unique laws and mechanics. For example, the first chapter, or the first biome, includes basic flights, resource gathering, and craft; the only hurdle is the Man’s natural needs and a couple of electric shocks, and even that is only if you poke your face into the wires because of being too curious. The new zones will make you face their destructive nature, use new tools and features, and, perhaps, they will even make you think! Although, what is there to think — hit, break, and apply some tape to the helmet.

As we’ve finished our work on the game scenario, we’ve started our work on the English localization of the monologues, as well as the Russian and English voiceovers. We haven’t forgotten about our friends from other countries, and we keep in mind about each of you who is eager to help with localizing the game into other languages, and we’ll certainly localize the game into the most popular ones. However, we can promise this only when Breathedge moves from Early Access to the release. That means that when the fourth and fifth chapters are released, or somewhere near this event, everyone who speaks only Chinese, French, German, Polish, and a number of other languages, will have the opportunity to enjoy the game with fully adapted unfunny jokes without using online translators and grandma's dictionaries.

We’ve successfully tested the construction system, available in the Breathedge Constructor. We’ve listened to your opinions and read your comments, and we are thinking about some big improvements in the logic of construction with the decor. In the meantime, the bugs got out of their lair, but we made them crawl back; although they are still waiting for their moment to come. At the moment, our programmers in the person of one chicken, are working on the optimization of the code and models. They’ve also learned how to save and load the station with all the decor, and at any point of the galaxy. After the optimizations, the station will break down, of course, and will successfully pass the tests again, but let’s leave it for one of the next pieces of useless news.

We are planning to expand the variety of AI in the game. Space will slowly come to life, filled with extremely unreasonable pixels with different tasks. We wanted to introduce some aliens into the game, but we couldn’t find and persuade any to record some mocap animations for our game, that’s why we were forced to introduce robots instead. By the way, the robot named Buratissos is already rolling, raking the air with his hands, and doesn’t like to fall on his back when he is being thrown. The one who flats him on his back will be officially considered as a great hero.

The next things we’re going to tell you about are not entirely related to robots or to AI (even though they have one), but there will be thoughtless and annoying turrets in the game that will relentlessly pepper the Man with charges of unknown physical origin, making it difficult to play and enjoy the smell of freedom in a sweated space suit.

The vehicle is almost working. It refuels, breaks down, shines its headlight and goes at near-light speed. Don’t ask.

In response to all hardships, including the evil robots with turrets, the Man learned to skillfully shoot a blaster. We wanted to teach him how to shoot a bow, but due to the lack of knees in robots, we found this type of weapon completely useless.

And yes, the robots, blasters, turrets, vehicle, saves, and other useless stuff is already available in the Breathedge Constructor today.

The important news for our team is that we have a new full-time hen in our coop. She actively helps in artwork, and many strange new objects in the game will be created with her help. This once again underlines the fact that if you have a beautiful beak, a red comb, as well as confident experience in the gaming industry in any specialty (especially in C ++ and animations for UE4), then the doors of our coop are always open.

And finally, we’d like to remind you that you can expect the second and the third chapters somewhere around April. Or probably in May, although mom may let us go on summer vacation early, and this might postpone the release to unknown dates in 2072... But let's hope for the best! By the way, we have a real coffin. Why would we need a real coffin? Well, we are not eternal, so, who knows when it may suddenly come in handy. Or we may use it for a wild video that we are preparing for wild video fans, but we don’t know for sure.

So it goes. Don’t forget to join our discord channel for quick feedbacks, as well as for sharing your ideas, solving life problems, or just informal communication with emoticons.

There it is, look! Yes, there, look, it’s close! Let’s gather around the table!

You probably haven’t noticed yet, but the New Year has already crept up on us from the back and is poking a finger in our ribs. No, no, it’s definitely not osteochondrosis, we are sure. Perhaps the New Year wouldn’t be so tactless if we were lying face down on the beach and eating sand, but sadly, we are lying face down on the floor and eating polished white long grain rice. If you are not too busy contemplating the sandy interiors of your crab hole either, then we would like to heartily notify you about the New Year and congratulate you on it, of course. For this occasion we were planning to make a beautiful New Year postcard: we took out our paintbrush and some old supplies of black gouache, but Ms. Anna (Basyamba) gave us such a great fanart congratulation that we threw our paints into the nearest airlock along with our self-conceit, and we are now sharing her congratulations with you.

Isn't this great? Thank you, Anna! Thanks to everyone who is trying to save the Man and make his life a bit more unbearable. We thank everyone for your participation in the history of Breathedge. We hope that the year 2019 will be at least 2019 for everyone, as for Breathedge, we wish this year to be the release-from-early-access one. You threw money into your monitors, had your faith in us, bombarded us with positive comments, and gave us new ideas. All we got to do now is fulfill all the plans and finish the game in such a way that one could say: “Wow, Russian game dev is finally rising from its knees!” And that everyone would want a sequel, a new history, but we wouldn’t do it because we would be eating sand and contemplating a peaceful life of a crab, while thinking of a new universe. So it goes. Happy New Year!
