Driftland will never be the same. The warmup is over and the new AI will not be as forgiving as it used to be. To tell you the truth, your enemies will go out of their way to win with you, so pay extra attention to relations with your neighbours and get ready for the real war. When it will come, it will put your skills to the ultimate test.
Read further for a deeper insight into the changes and an awesome surprise waiting for you at the end of the Update Notes!
AI Major Improvements:
Other ruling mages will now develop economy of their Empires much more efficiently and react to diplomatic states more adequately. If it’ll come to war, beware, for your opponents are ready for a fully fledged war and will take no prisoners!
There's no place for stressles gameplay. Not anymore. Unless you want it - the peaceful mode is still there!
Reworked Event Notifications:
We implemented a big list of improvements that will make the notifications you see on the right side of the screen much more convenient. We say no to spamming, while at the same time introducing a new way of sorting them and fixing bugs. Try it yourself!
Visual Updates:
New platforms for flying Units in all the Camps;
A big group of reworked animations.
Further Improvements:
New Advancements in Paths of Progress: Fast Cooldown (for all the races) and Reduction of Exhaustion (exclusively for the magically talented Wild Elves);
Improvements to Cooldown mechanics;
Improvements to the game’s UI (e.g. shift will now show you a list of all the known resouces an all islands you can see);
We fixed various bugs and crashes.
There’s only one more question I have for you now: who’s also excited about the upcoming first Campaign? Here’s the first sneek peek of the great adventure soon to come!
Do you like surprises? We do, especially the good ones, which is why we prepared something totally amazing for our incredible Community - new feature that will not only improve the gameplay, but also deal with the issue of players’ magic being too powerful. And if you are one of our Chinese Players, we have something extra just for you!
Spellcasting Cooldown:
Even a mage as powerful as you needs time to concentrate. Starting this Update, every spell you cast will add a set cooldown value to new bars you will find on both sides of you schools of magic. Cast too many spells in a short time and you will have to rely on your Heroes before regaining your full potential.
This new feature not only adds to the tactical depth of the game, but also makes it easier to defend Castles from nuking them with offensive magic. And the bar looks awesome, too!
Bug Fixes:
You are just as awesome as you are vigilant! We fixed a list of bugs and crashes you recently reported, making the game more enjoyable and stable. Thank you for your support!
Chinese Language Version:
We know a lot of our Chinese Players waited eagerly for the moment and as we are always true to our promises, here it is: the Chinese language is now live! Starting today, you can play Driftland in English, Polish, Russian, German, French, Spanish and Chinese!
Further improvements:
We added new, beautiful vegetation on Human biome!
We added a pack of awesome new animations for Wild and Dark Elves!
We further improved game’s optimization!
Enemies will now attack your Magic Eyes with their spells!
We can’t wait to hear what you think about the Update! It will be followed by version 0.8 and we are extremely busy working on the first Campaign (and to deliver you the final release of Driftland in the first half of 2019)...
...and don’t forget about the Steam Awards nominations! :)

Once again, I wish to thank you all for being such an awesome Community - your dedication, feedback and ideas. We are looking forward to know what you think about the Update, especially about new languages and diplomacy!
Fellow Mages, do you remeber the mysterious icon introduced in the last Update? We are sheding more light on the big feature behind it, at the same time introducing new awesome customization options and a whole list of visual improvements.
Before going into details, we are happy to share great news with our Russian-, French-, German- and Chinese-speaking Players: first three of the mentioned languages will be added to Driftland in less than 2 weeks and Chinese version 1-2 additional weeks after that! Our translators are already working on the Update, so let’s leave them to their work and focus on the great additions to the game that you can enjoy right away:
Avatars and Empire Names: You are now able to choose avatars for both you and your enemies! That’s not all, as all the Empires will now have their names (that you can change to anything you want, too)!
Diplomacy Sneak Preview: The mysterious icon in the upper-right corner of the screen will now take you to a preview of Diplomacy screen, one of the most important features we were working on for the past weeks!
Visual Improvements:
We reworked vegetation on swampy islands of the Dark Elves and igneous islands of the Dwarves
We added new idle animations for Human Heroes
Units will now fall from destroyed bridges
We greatly improved visual effects of Ritual of Avulsion and Mallevah’s Favor spells
We introduced new symbols of all the races
Bug Fixes: Thanks to your support, we were able to find a list of bugs and fix them - making the game more stable and enjoyable!
We are greateful for your continuous help and looking forward to your feedback on new features, especially the Diplomacy window. It’s my pleasure to end the notes with great news: Driftland won the Best Indie Game Prize at PGA 2018! Thank you, we couldn’t have done it without you!
Fellow Mages, so came the dawn of new era and new sun of version 0.7 will (literally) illumiante the world of Driftland! We’re starting with new, dynamic skybox, improved graphics and victory (or defeat) screens that will give you all the cool details on the game you had just finished! We now plan to release frequent Updates with “7” in the middle, each of them bringing us closer to finishing all the skirmish mechanics and all the way to version 0.8 that will introduce highly anticipated first Campaign! Before that, however, there’s a ton of great new features to try out:
Victory / Defeat Screens: You might have won a game, but how big your advantage was? How much gold did your enemies gathered or how many structures you had destroyed? You will find answers to these and other questions in the newly added victory / defeat screens… and they look awesome, too!
Dynamic Skybox: What can be as relaxing as looking at your Empire bathed in the morning sun or razing enemy castles to the ground at sunset? All of that awaits you now in the game!
Updated Graphics:
Major improvements to Dark Elven architecture and biome!
Updated UI (for example, hovering over building icons on map will fade out all other structures except the type - you can easily find all the buildings you are looking for)!
Various revamped spell effects (Slow, for example)!
Other improvements:
New mysterious icon in the game’s HUD (a major feature, maybe?)
First stage of game optimisation
Revamped behaviour of Heroes assigned to Camps
List of in-game-defined shortcuts for each of the races in Controls settings
Bug fixes
At the same time, we are going through all the text in the game, working on proper localisation files for our translators and add mechanics required for the Campaign.
Let us know what you think about the newest version of Driftland - we’re always eager to hear your feedback!
Mage Overlords, this Update is a great opportunity to tell you more about our work on the crucial incoming features.
We already started using our new editor in the process of building the first Campaign (that has all it’s missions already planned in detail). This is the second consecutive Update focused on fixing issues you report, because before releasing the story mode, we want to be sure the game’s stable, enjoyable and free of bugs that would be more difficult to eliminate afterwards. We also want it to be a complete experience, so there are two big features we want to share with you, before we let you shape the story of Emeryk, Urias and other characters important for the future of Driftland.
At the same time, we continue our work on additional language versions and are now exhibiting at PAX West in Seattle (come see us if you’re attending the event)! We also looked into a lot of game elements, making Driftland’s overall experience even more enjoyable! You will find the list of all the changes below:
Improvements and fixes:
Most of all, we fixed various crashes and other bugs, both reported by you and revealed by our tests, making the game more stable and enjoyable!
We refined game’s AI, improving Units’ behaviour in battle.
Heroes that lost their building (Berserkers Halls, Wizard Tower etc.) will now receive a Vagabond debuff (Losing home made this Hero vulnerable, decreasing Damage and Armor by 50%. We should rebuild the place.) That’s something you should be aware of, but something you can use to your advantage, too.
We improved UI in various ways, for example: esc button now closes buildings’ windows, Paths of Progress have a wider slider (pun uninteded) and we fixed windows’ jumping after assigning Workers.
Upon abandoning a ritual spell by your spellcasters, the magical ribbon around the island will now be slowly receding.
You can now block in-game key binding to avoid unintentional assigning shortcuts.
We continue the process of improving animations.
Dark Elven Cottage has a new model (the change will be followed by a much bigger one).
We slightly improved world visuals (the change will also be followed by a much bigger one).
We added new texts and improved existing ones (like better explanation of flag priorities).
As always, I want to thank you for your support! If you have any additional questions about this and future Updates, simply share them in the comments below!
With great power comes great responsibility and with great features come bugs - that’s what superheroes and players use to say. Once again, you proved to be both and amazed us with your dedication!
After we added a ton of new content in the last Updates, you found an extremely helpful list of elements we could improve or fix - and this Patch is all about that. Well, to tell you the truth, we added few new features just to make it even better!
Bannermen in the Camps will now behave in much more predictable way: they will get ready for Raids as expected, won’t get stuck and follow their targets as intended!
Camps and Raids are much more readable and the rules behind them are easier to understand thanks to the tweaks to the UI!
Binding key shortcuts is significantly easier - all you have to do is click on the intended icon while holding a keybord button of your choosing!
You can instantly go to the map (and back) with the M button!
The Return to the Castle button will now take you back to the previous location upon clicking it for the second time!
Some high resolutions will not affect the size of your cursor anymore.
This is going to be good. And big. And good. Did I wrote that already? That’s perfectly fine, because it deserves to be mentioned twice, as it’s not only one of the things you requested the most, but also one of the coolest additions and improvements to the game. Without further ado: Camps, Bannermen and Raids!
Camps
All the races can now pitch Camps, where Heroes gather to form Banners. This way, you can create groups of your choosing and plan coordinated attacks - battles are easier to handle and, most of all, much more entertaining! That’s not all, as each race provides it’s Bannermen with different Camp Skills!
Nature’s Gift (Wild Elves): All Bannermen will start Raids with the Nature’s restorative blessing!
Big Bretta (Dwarves): Powerful Dwarven mortar will aid Bannermen during Raids, even at a great distances!
Battle Brothers (Humans): Bannermen train together and share war stories, gaining experience even outside of battle!
Rite of the Fallen (Dark Elves): Bannermen collect skulls of their enemies and become stronger through their Blood Magic!
Reworked Flag Menu
We added radial shape and smooth animations to the new Flag Menu, now including Pitch Camp and Raid Flags. The new menu works anywhere on the map, and after selecting one of the Flags, you will enter a new mode allowig you for easier placement of bigger number of it in the game and clearer indication of weather you are able to place it or not (and why) - easier, faster and more convenient!
Other improvements
We added more available key shortcuts
Bug fixes
First Campaign is entering an important phase of development, but we’ll have at least one more surprise for you before it’s released!
The dust from the Dwarven landing hasn’t even settled, but we’re already back with the next Update! You already know how important your feedback is to the team, but we have no intentions of slowing down, so here are new things you asked for:
Custom key bindings
You asked for it and so you have it! Wheter you want to have easier access to Cottages or your Blood Magic spells, we have just the mechanic you need. Choose a list of your hotkeys in game settings and then match them with actions of your choosing, left-clicking them with the button pressed.
Localization (starting with Polish language)
We started localizing the game, adding Polish language as a base for further translations. Rest assured this is just the beginning, and more languages will follow with upcoming Updates!
UI improvements:
We improved how Flag icons are being shown and hidden - but we have much more plans for improving them even further!
You can now see if you can upgrade a structure or recruit Units in it, without opening the building’s window. So convenient!
Other improvements:
Additional tweaks suggested by the Community
Hotfix for the QHD and 4K resolutions
Bug fixes
We plan to add a really cool and important mechanic in the next patch. Something we talked about with you, as well. In the meantime, let us know what you think about the changes and thank you for your continuous help!
