Main Changes

Eagle Update

We’ve fully updated the model and visual effects for the Eagle used during the “Flight” spell. General approach has changed too - now, instead of being carried by the Eagle, characters transform into the Eagle themselves.

The ability is also initially blocked. Characters can receive this gift from Chronos in his Sanctuary.

Storm Warning

The guardian of the Frozen Citadel, dragon Crysta, travels from biome to biome, summoning snowy blizzards in her wake. Beckoned by her call, frozen monsters awaken amidst the impenetrable storm.

Travelers would be wise to hide away in their houses during such harsh periods, only hoping that their shelters will withstand the unrelanting icy knocks.

Cradle of Keepers Pillars

Camps of the Furious Grunt, Smoldering Warlock and Skull Hunter got an update and were transfered back into the Cradle of Keepers. They all still keep the masks needed to activate the portal to the Sanctuary. The last mask can be received as a souveneir from your old pal Bonehead.

On top of that, the first floating island biome has received its own name - “The Broken Valley”. Among those islands players will be able to find objects, holding the story of Arkana.

Magic Abilities Display

UI has received a new addition - the spell bar. It will display all abilities, that consume Flame.

New Approach to Building

The functionality of the Sentinel has been completely reworked, now providing all 3 functions needed to make a proper household: it now acts as a point of respawn, teleportation and a building area. Once you place the Sentinel, it will set and display the boundaries in which you can build your shelter. Needless to say, Sentinels now completely replace the building hammers.

Building “by hand” has also been changed. Now all crafted stations must be immediately placed on the ground, and can no longer be packed. The list of crafting stations has also changed.

Ability Tree Update

The ability tree is getting closer to its finalised state. This time we’ve set the intended design and the positioning of nodes within the tree, while also adding more passive abilities.

Main Changes

Stories of Arkana

Arkana. As mysterious as it is ancient. Its every detail holds its own story. Now players will be able to get to know Arkana a bit better, by interacting with the environment, notes of fallen warriors, and remnants of the Keeper.

The remaining heroes of the war against the cursed have their own stories to share. They’ll watch over the players, reacting to their accomplishments and telling tales. Their locations are marked on the map.

Memories of Crafting

Warning! Experimental change. Can cause swift addiction.

We’ve significantly changed our approach towards crafting. The number of Memory Shards required to unlock recipes has been increased. On the other hand, memorials and waystone, which replaced the hidden stellas, now reward players with a greater amount of Shards. On top of that, Shards can now drop from destructible objects, like vases and boxes.

More advanced recipes require you to get rarer green Memory Shards, either dropping from Elementals, Titans and mystical cubes, or crafted from the regular Memory Shards.

Cunning Strikes of Titans and Elites

Elites and Titans received new dangerous attacks:

- When reduced to low HP the Furious Grunt and the Ironbound fall into rage, becoming faster and much more dangerous.
- The Smoldering Warlock can now perform a powerful Fire Ball attack to scorch enemies in a large area of effect.
- The Skull Hunter now deploys traps, that knockdown and inflict slowness on their victims.
- Battles with Titans now have two phases. During the second phase they use their Star Fall attack, summoning numerous magical projectiles from the skies.

Skybox Update

Sometimes it’s better to see once than to hear a hundred time. This is exactly such a time.

Arkana’s Secrets

You can now find hidden chests, sealed by magical locks. To unlock them you’ll need to pay some extra attention to your environment.

Ritual Hints

You can now receive pretty noticable hints from Rituals involving runic stones. If you pay a small Flame fee first, of course.

Main Changes

Ability Tree Spells

Ability Tree now contains two new spells: "Bastion" will give you 10 seconds of protective barriers and health regeneration, and "Warrior's Call" will make surrounding enemies attack you, keeping your allies safe. And good old "Earth Stomp" received updated visuals and sound effects.

New Ways to Travel between the Islands

Back in the day some priests had forseen the appearance of wind currents, reaching from the frozen wasteland of Arkana all the way up to the flying islands. It wasn't an impressive foresight, but those winds proved to be useful, making it possible to upkeep the flight height while traveling between the islands.

For those characters who prefer expressing their creativity in every aspect of the game, we added a new floating platform module. It can be used to build bridges between the islands, or even entire floating houses and strongholds. The only catch is that they decay much faster than regular modules, so make sure to keep them protected by your Sentinels.

Sanctuary and Islands Update

You can now activate the portal leading to the Sanctuary. The fourth and the last mask is kept safe by the Plagued Thresher on the Poison Temple island. Having activated the Sanctuary, you will be able to teleport to the biome's main tower, from which you'd gain an easy access to all islands of the area.

Rituals Update

Every update brings more and more diversity to the magical world of Arkana. From now on players will get their own personolized rune placement for every Ritual, as well as different ways to accomplish some other Rituals.

Cooking Update

Cooking UI has experienced some changes. In particular - buttons for cooking and collecting fresh dishes are now bigger and placed higher than they used to be. At the same time we've significantly shortened the cooking time.

Nightly Mystic Cubes

We've been hearing reports of Mystic Cubes appearing in the world once again. Finding one will provide you a fancy reward. Yet finding them isn't so easy - they appear at night all over the flying islands. They are quite rare, and just getting out of your shelter to gaze into the skies to seek for the Cubes' beacons is worth your while.

Weather

"Ain't no cloud in the skies!" - we'd have answered you a day ago. But the weather has changed drastically overnight: cold winds of the frozen wasteland below bring frigid storms to the islands floating above. At the same time all those fluffy clouds in between the islands erupt in thunder, making skies unsafe for travels. An unprepared adventurer venturing out of the Cradle is risking to become a frozen corpse in mere minutes.

Rituals

Once upon a time, dragons gifted humanity secret rituals of transforming flame into the frozen flame. With its help people gained unimaginable strength and ability to use magic.

But the details of such rituals were lost to time. Only lone Obelisks remain, rewarding players with frozen flame for solving their secrets.

New Islands

This time we've added 15 more islands to the outskirts of the Cradle of Keepers. Among them some of our seasoned players will find familiar locations - the Poisonous Temple and an island with a Titan.

This isn't the finalised version of the islands - we'll keep on improving them over the future updates. The portal in the Cradle of Keepers is still closed, meaning you can't enter the Sanctuary quite yet.

World Map and Beacons

The world map now works properly and accurately represents the placement of islands in the world. On top of that, you can now find a new device in the world, that will show the player nearby objects that they haven't discovered yet.

Basic Tips in the Prologue

We've added some basic combat and mechanical tips to the Prologue. It's just a start, and we'll be updating both the visuals and the tips themselves in the future updates.

- Removed the axe from the first chest. Now you have to craft it yourself.
- Cooked food now grant you bonus temporary health.
- Monsters don't hit so hard anymore.
- Monsters will not despawn from their camps.
- You can build under your friend's Sentinel's protection.
- Disabled the mechanic that made two or more overlapping heat sources to cause overheat.
- Rebalanced damage of basic and special attacks.
- Campfires now have two cooking slots to make more diverce dishes.

- Weather on the Cradle of Keepers is now always comfortable and will not make you freeze.

- Skill Tree now displaces stat changes per level.
- Elemental damage numbers now display in a different colour.

New Floating Islands


New shards of the once magnificent Ancient Valley soared into the skies. These are relatively safe areas, providing shelter to mighty oaks, berry bushes and tranquil bubbles, with the Cursed inhabiting separated ruins.

This update brings you eight new islands. Among them you will find two islands with the Skull Hunter and the Smoldering Warlock. Our seasoned players should already know that these powerful Cursed keep hold on the "keys" to the portal in the Cradles of Keepers.

As it has been told before, magical currents shuffle the islands in every new world. This may either bring your encounters with the old friends closer, or make you work harder to reach them.

Skill Tree Update


Spirit of Defenders branch has received new abilities, passive characteristics and two experimental spells.

The Order of Defenders will retain its unique right to change the skill tree of their Spirit at any moment without getting the approval from other Orders.

New Building UI


Each and every architect needs effective instruments. We're constantly improving the building system and this time decided to put some work on the UI. It now takes up much less space, and hopefully became much more convenient.

Tales of NPCs


Arkana's inhabitants know much. One should listen closely to their tales, as they may contain key information for discovering new interesting places and events.

DLSS
Good news for those who own NVidea graphics cards with DLSS technology. Frozen Flame now supports it! You can enable it in the video settings.

The second CBT stage is now officially over. We want to thank all the participants for your feedback and endless support. When we were working out in which direction the game should be developed, we relied heavily on your comments and wishes. Thanks to you we have embarked onto the path of radical changes without a hint of doubt or fear! And we hope you will enjoy this path as much as we do.

And now it's time for a little surprise - we're launching FF0.22 straight after FF.019! And no, we haven't lost count: past two updates were purely internal and were dedicated to testing the new changes. With all that said, let's reveal what we have in store for you!

Magic of Dragons

The world of Arkana is saturated with magic. It echoes through every aspect of life, every blade of grass, every creature, taking form of the Flame. When a being ceases to live, its accumulated Flame materializes for other beings to consume. Beware - such act makes every creature stronger and more dangerous! Even the most harmless boar will transform into a dangerous foe if given enough Flame to absorb.

A long time ago, mighty dragons, keepers of the secret to the control over the magic of Flame, shared that knowledge with the humanity. And even now this knowledge permeates keenly in humanity's minds. Use that knowledge to accumulate Flame and use it to charge your attacks or channel flight.

Future updates will expand the choice of magical abilities.

Floating Islands
Once a beautiful world, now soaked in blood and corruption, shattered into pieces and soared to the skies. The surface underneath that used to be a home for Arkana's inhabitants, turned into a lifeless frozen wasteland.

Magical currents flow differently in every world, carrying shattered pieces of the world to various locations, making every new adventure unpredictable and full of surprises. Stories of every world develop in their own way - some will be similar, others will be very different. Everything depends on the magical currents of every unique world.

Choose your Path

Our old character progression system has sunk into oblivion. Now players pick their path through the Ability Tree. All skills and abilities correspond to one of the four Spirits. By combining the boons of these Spirits you can create a truly flexible classes.

Currently only the Spirit of Defenders is available.

Combat System

We've implemented numerous changes to every aspect of combat: from the visual effects and animations all the way to the weapon balance. But, as they say: "One look is worth a thousand words."

Prologue

We have adapted the Prologue, making it more clear for the new players. Now it serves as a basic tutorial section.

There is only one thing we say to PvP: “Today”



"Curse you!" - says in the world of Arcana to unscrupulous players, so that they can then fight them in a glorious battle. But, we must warn you, aggressive actions will not go unpunished - whoever kills a cursed player will become cursed themselves. Such is the price of ruthless bloodshed in the world of dragons.

But where does the curse originate? Cursed zones lay scattered around the world, some we’ve mentioned before like the infected forests in the northern part of the Ancient Valley, others you’ll discover on your own. Before you choose to become cursed, you’ll want to weigh your strengths. Becoming cursed is a heavy burden, you’ll become an outcast until the curse subsides. When cursed other players will be able to attack you without impunity as will the Sentinels of Chronos. You’ll need to find other ways to protect your shelter and treasures from other players.



Becoming cursed is not without its benefits though and they’ll be revealed in a future update.

The extinguished portal of Ancient Valley



At one time from each location of the Arcana, it was possible to instantly get to the Cave of Chronos through a network of portals. Now they are all extinguished, but new ones are emerging.

You may have come across the portal inCradle of the Keepers early in your adventures. The next one awaits to be discovered somewhere in the Ancient Valley.

Jump, Dive, and Dodge with Ease

We’ve heard your feedback about controls. You’ll no longer need to frantically switch between “battle modes”. Gone are the times of jumping on a ledge and dodge toggling on because of a monster nearby, or jumping when you needed to dodge.

New Default control settings: Space - Jump, Alt - Dodge.

  • Updating the visual of the cursed zone of the Ancient Valley.

Cradle of Keepers Dungeon



World of Arkana already had majestic and dangerous dragons. Only one piece of puzzle was missing to make it an adventurers' heaven - dark dungeons. But adventurers can finally rejoyce, knowing that Arkana now has all: both dungeons and dragons!

Our first dungeon is located in Cradle of Keepers, not far from the central portal. It's quite dark inside, and one can easily stumble upon a rock or a very angry skeleton warrior, so be sure to grab some torches along the way.

Every self-respecting dungeon should contain a valuable treasure guarded by a powerful monster, and our dungeon is no different!

Ability Tree Visual Update



Updated visuals for the background and branches of the Ability Tree.
Ability Tree visuals are still WIP, with our next goal being implementation of new ability icons.

Building Updates



Completely overhauled the style of straw modules, and introduced two new roof types. Players can now also build a special portal that will act as their respawn point.

New Male Haircuts



Character customization now has several new stylish male haircuts.

Health recovery

The recipe book now has a new entry - "Powdered Herbs". Prepare some for your travels to have easy access to instant health recovery.

Gameplay

  • Cooking now rewards players with Flame.
  • Decreased the difficulty of Elite monster encounters.
  • Increased the difficulty of Ancient Valley encounters.
  • Reworked the "Chain Lightning" functionality.
  • Decreased Titans' characteristics.

Map

  • Three new challenges in the Ancient Valley with one new type - musical challenge.
  • Updated the skybox in Cave of Chronos.
  • Changed the visuals for challenges that demand item sacrifices.
  • The starting teleport is now set to "default" for new players.

UI

  • Introduced the "Drop Stack" button to the inventory UI.
  • "Hotkeys" can no longer be pressed by mouse.
  • Changed the building mode reticle.

Sounds

  • Updated Mystic Cube sounds.
  • Updated non-combat spell sounds.

Other

  • Increased torch durability.
  • Added a new visual effect for cooking on a bonfire.
  • Fixed the glow of mushrooms and wildberries. Now they are more easily found at night.
  • Fixed the water walking visual effect.

Fixes

  • Missing world textures.
  • "Interaction" with an anvil near the Blacksmith.
  • Ability to cast curses on yourself.
  • Recipes inserting wrong ingredients of the same type, cooking the wrong dish.
  • Spells targeting dead creatures.
  • Summoning building UI by choosing empty quick-slot.
  • "Destruction" of a box not playing sound or animation.
  • Casting spells from the afterlife.
  • "Underground monsters" aggroed by players running above no longer block players' movement.
  • Greatswords only damaging creatures behind the player.
  • Barrels' collision. They are now properly impassable.
