The next update for Generation Zero has arrived, and we’re very excited to finally show you what we’ve been working on these past months! The Dark Skies Update will bring you not only a brand new Soviet Machine, the Firebird, but also an entirely new way to travel - the Tuned Moped. And if the skies above are too dark for you, now is the time to bring some color to your Östertörn fighter with the new free weapon skins. More about that a little bit below, but first,
The Firebird
Reinforcements have arrived; say “Hej” to Generation Zero’s first weaponized flying enemy! Equipped with everything from Autocannons and Howitzers to Teslacoil spikes and Trip Bombs it will wreak havoc from the air, darkening the sky above Östertörn.
This new machine will surely push the Resistance to its knees. Do you have what it takes to defend not only Östertörn but the skies above it as well? You’ll be introduced to this new flying menace in northern Östertörn where it roams the skies. If you shoot one of them down, don’t forget to loot it, it might carry something special!
Our Lead Artist, Rich comments: "For our first flying machine, we wanted to set out an all-seeing terror. The influence behind it was those police helicopter videos you see at night boasting a large spotlight. Able to find the player in any density whilst they run or fight.
We haven't explored any machine that moves vertically (well not intentionally) and of course that came with a lot of challenges to overcome and questions to answer. But not losing sight of what the Firebird is made the first flying machine a terror in the skies. Bring all the bullets and rockets you can carry, this machine is a monster!"
The Tuned Moped
With a new machine reigning terror from above we need a new way to escape its rapid fire on the ground. Being a long-time sought feature from the GZ community, we’re finally introducing a new means of transportation in Östertörn; the Tuned Moped!
“We wanted to introduce a way for players to travel around our huge game world in a new and exciting way. The moped will allow the player to get from A to B faster than before.” Robert, one of the Game Designers on the team says.
Weapon Skins
It’s not all dark. The Dark Skies Update brings some new flavor to the game with completely new spoils of war. Show the world just how tough you are and who you’ve beaten with five new free weapons skins. These colorful creations can drop from beaten Rivals and be attached to some of your favorite weapons through a new attachment slot. Go get them all today!
"Dark Skies sees the introduction of being able to customize your weapons further by applying cosmetic skins to them. The first round has a mix of well-recognized camouflage to the more reclusive ones as well as a couple of weapons receiving The Resistance treatment. Keep an eye out for them as you loot machines and which weapons they apply for.
We intend to add more skins to your favorite weapons in the future as well as expand on your collection." Rich, Our Lead Artist adds.
New Game Revamp
Ready for a fresh start? Included in this full-packed update is a new way to replay the game for all of you who have already cleared your way through Östertörn and FNIX’s threats.
Here’s Björn, Lead Game Designer, giving us a rundown of the New Game revamp:
This new feature aims to fulfill two long-standing wishes from the community:
Provide a way for players to replay the game with a new character in a new world where all the missions and world progression has been reset (without having to delete all existing characters) Provide a way for players to replay the game with an old character in a new world (“new game+”)
With the old system, the game supported 1 world and up to 4 characters. This has now changed so that you can have a total of 4 worlds and 4 characters.
These worlds and characters can be mixed and matched in any way you want to achieve the goals outlined above while maintaining support for the old system.
Examples of what you can do now:
Fresh New Game = New Character + New World
New Game+ = Existing Character + New World
Original Approach = New Character + Existing World
Continue Game = Existing Character + Existing World
NEW PAID DLC: THE MOTORBIKES PACK DLC
The Tuned Moped isn’t fast enough for you? Then we’ve got something in store that you’re going to like; the Motorbikes Pack DLC! Included in this fast-paced pack, you’ll find three unique motorbikes. Lodjuret, Väktare, and Motstånd. All with their own characteristics to get you through even the toughest terrains. Get it here on Steam today!
HALLOWEEN EVENT 2022
Östertörn gets extra spooky as Halloween arrives in the Swedish archipelago!
Starting today and running until the 2nd of November haunted machines will drop pieces of the four limited vanity sets, the Nightmare, Slasher, Vampire, and the Arctic.
So how will this work exactly? For each machine you take down, there will be a change for apparel items to drop. All four sets contain their own variants for each slot on your character. Be on the lookout for Runners, Hunters, Harvesters, and Tank to be able to snag these items before the event is over! A reminder for those that play Generation Zero offline: this event requires you to be online for our servers to activate the event in-game.
Alongside these spooky shenanigans, we’ll be running a “Most Scary Outfit” competition so make sure to check out our Social Channels as well as the Generation Zero forum for more on that!

Today we've introduced some improvements to the game with a Hotfix for performance issues related to the Recon Update. This fix is now available on all platforms. Thank you all for your reports and feedback! Please see below for the included updates:
Fixed an issue where saves with many FNIX bases unlocked could cause the game to crash in Östervik
Fixed an issue where the game would crash during the FNIX Rising missions
Fixed an issue where the game would crash when approaching a FNIX Base
Fixed an issue where infinite ticks would spawn and crash the game
With the Recon Update, we were very excited to deliver new updated features and missions in Generation Zero to you, such as crafting rebalancing, additional control points to the South coast region, and a host of bug fixes listed here.
Unfortunately, the update hasn't met some of your expectations, and there are bugs from the list that are still occurring. In addition, it seems the update may have introduced a few new bugs for some players, causing game crashes or issues when loading.
We want you to know that we are aware of all reported issues. We are consistently monitoring your feedback on Discord, Steam, and other social media platforms (yes, content creators, we are watching your videos too!). We can’t express how sorry we are for delivering an update that doesn’t live up to our (or your) expectations.
We are investigating the possibility of a hotfix and we will keep you posted regarding progress on this matter. We will make it available as soon as possible, but please bear in mind that we are a small team and this process takes time. We promise to keep you informed via our social channels as soon as we have more information and a solid date for the hotfix to share.
As always we are very grateful for the community reports flagging this, and the patience you’ve all shown during this period.
The Recon Update is here with some smaller additions and adjustments to the world of Östertörn! This one is intended to improve some of Generation Zero’s mid-game features and experiences.
We’ve also got quite a bit in store for the rest of this year, some of which was originally intended to be within this update, but due to the size and complexity of some of the new features and content, we had to move these forward from the Recon Update in favor of a more robust and meaningful release to follow. We’ll have more words on that in coming Dev Letters and other communications, but for now, let’s get to the core of what’s incoming for Generation Zero!
Crafting has been a post-release addition to the game, and has up to this point, received only periodic attention. This is the start of some adjustments to crafting, apparel, etc. that we believe will help create a more engaging, meaningful experience for players that enjoy this element of the Resistance!
Rivals now drop apparel schematics in a more functional way: quality levels will be dropped in sequence. For example, if you only have a Quality 2 schematic, the next drop of that type can only be a Quality 3 schematic, and so on. This was done to make the experience a bit more understandable for everyone, and subsequently, relieve a problem of having gaps in a schematic line which players could not use.
The stat effects of apparel schematics are roughly double overall, but some might fall a little above or below that. This is dependent on how they “scale” into the overall experience for players, as some might have been too powerful/imbalanced.
Southcoast Control Points
For those of you that are enjoying raiding FNIX bases, we’ve also added 4 more control points to the Southcoast region!
As we continue to welcome new players to the world of Östertörn, we also continue to improve their first experience with the story, adding more VO and world design elements to improve the next line of missions in the Archipelago region with the Vesslan Bunker Warboard Missions. These include: “Calling For Help,” “Over and Out,” “First Contact,” “Beachhead,” & “Another Castle”
Players can now have a more anchoring and cohesive experience with these improvements, with a better understanding of the story as well as their surroundings.
Additional Tweaks & Improvements
Quantity is now displayed in the HUD when picking up loot
Increased the damage per shot and decreased the fire rate for the Kotenok and S21 to make them feel more like DRMs
Increased damage per shot for the AT-WAD to compensate for the small magazine
The weapon wheel now displays used-up items as grayed out in the weapon wheel; picking up more of the “remembered” item will automatically place it in the previous slot
Bad luck modifiers added to experimental weapon loot; this means that the chance of getting them increase if you have not gotten one over a number of attempts
Credits screen is updated to reflect the current team composition
Vehicles now use the same movement input as walking; this means that they now will rebind as you rebind the walking keys

Today marks the third update for Generation Zero so far this year! This time around we’re focused on polishing the early game a bit more for our new players, as well as giving a new option for veteran players to experiment more with their character builds.
New Dawn - NPCs
With this update, we added some new NPCs to the beginning of the game. These revamped missions will introduce two new characters to the world of Östertörn. You’ll find Therese quite early in the first mission(s) to help guide you through your understanding of the systems of Generation Zero through given objectives.
Pontus will make a quick cameo in your journey through the Archipelago as well. He will be ready to help you through some of the first missions in the bunkers of Östertörn.
Skill Respec
Skill Respec has also arrived! Players can finally continue to iterate and experiment with their character builds. You will have to progress a bit in-game before you're able to use this new feature, as you’ll have to collect 5 Uranium to do so. These can be found around Östertörn through various activities, you can also earn 5 Uranium for every 5 player levels up to level 31, and you will earn 5 Uranium for each level after 31.
Indeed, you read that right. The level cap is coming off in Generation Zero, partially anyway. With the new maximum level reaching 10k for those that are running and gunning their way to prestige!
Farmlands Control Points
FNIX has been quite busy since the last update and has further encroached into the Farmlands region with new control points. 12 new control points are ready and waiting for you to raid them for all the loot needed to keep the resistance going! You’ll be able to hold up to 6 locations in this newly opened front. Here is a sneak peek at a couple of them so far:
Partial North Coast Revamp
There have been a few new iterations on the North Coast. The most affected areas are in Hagaboda, so hop on over to see all the new details and explore!
Tactical Equipment Pack
This paid DLC is bringing new tactics to the battlefield with scrapped together support equipment from past Resistance fights.
Autonomous Turret Sentry - This deployable mini-tower can give you cover fire while traversing an incursion.
Portable Cover - Assembled armor pieces from FNIX’s friends can now give you cover in a tight spot!
Remote Sticky Bombs - You’ll now be able to throw (and stick) multiple explosives to any incoming machine, perhaps even turning them into a makeshift weapon on the fly!
Dog Toy Lure - This trap is cute and cuddly, for a brief moment anyway, but will bring explosive hugs to its metallic friends after some time.
Molotov Cocktail- A classic weapon for any resistance! Throwing these will not only damage machines but will also burn fuel on the ground for added effect.
