Generation Zero® - kissemiss

The Recon Update is here with some smaller additions and adjustments to the world of Östertörn! This one is intended to improve some of Generation Zero’s mid-game features and experiences.

We’ve also got quite a bit in store for the rest of this year, some of which was originally intended to be within this update, but due to the size and complexity of some of the new features and content, we had to move these forward from the Recon Update in favor of a more robust and meaningful release to follow. We’ll have more words on that in coming Dev Letters and other communications, but for now, let’s get to the core of what’s incoming for Generation Zero!

Crafting has been a post-release addition to the game, and has up to this point, received only periodic attention. This is the start of some adjustments to crafting, apparel, etc. that we believe will help create a more engaging, meaningful experience for players that enjoy this element of the Resistance!
  • Rivals now drop apparel schematics in a more functional way: quality levels will be dropped in sequence. For example, if you only have a Quality 2 schematic, the next drop of that type can only be a Quality 3 schematic, and so on. This was done to make the experience a bit more understandable for everyone, and subsequently, relieve a problem of having gaps in a schematic line which players could not use.
  • The stat effects of apparel schematics are roughly double overall, but some might fall a little above or below that. This is dependent on how they “scale” into the overall experience for players, as some might have been too powerful/imbalanced.
Southcoast Control Points

For those of you that are enjoying raiding FNIX bases, we’ve also added 4 more control points to the Southcoast region!

As we continue to welcome new players to the world of Östertörn, we also continue to improve their first experience with the story, adding more VO and world design elements to improve the next line of missions in the Archipelago region with the Vesslan Bunker Warboard Missions. These include: “Calling For Help,” “Over and Out,” “First Contact,” “Beachhead,” & “Another Castle”

Players can now have a more anchoring and cohesive experience with these improvements, with a better understanding of the story as well as their surroundings.

Additional Tweaks & Improvements
  • Quantity is now displayed in the HUD when picking up loot
  • Increased the damage per shot and decreased the fire rate for the Kotenok and S21 to make them feel more like DRMs
  • Increased damage per shot for the AT-WAD to compensate for the small magazine
  • The weapon wheel now displays used-up items as grayed out in the weapon wheel; picking up more of the “remembered” item will automatically place it in the previous slot
  • Bad luck modifiers added to experimental weapon loot; this means that the chance of getting them increase if you have not gotten one over a number of attempts
  • Credits screen is updated to reflect the current team composition
  • Vehicles now use the same movement input as walking; this means that they now will rebind as you rebind the walking keys

Generation Zero® - kissemiss

Today marks the third update for Generation Zero so far this year! This time around we’re focused on polishing the early game a bit more for our new players, as well as giving a new option for veteran players to experiment more with their character builds.

New Dawn - NPCs

With this update, we added some new NPCs to the beginning of the game. These revamped missions will introduce two new characters to the world of Östertörn. You’ll find Therese quite early in the first mission(s) to help guide you through your understanding of the systems of Generation Zero through given objectives.

Pontus will make a quick cameo in your journey through the Archipelago as well. He will be ready to help you through some of the first missions in the bunkers of Östertörn.

Skill Respec

Skill Respec has also arrived! Players can finally continue to iterate and experiment with their character builds. You will have to progress a bit in-game before you're able to use this new feature, as you’ll have to collect 5 Uranium to do so. These can be found around Östertörn through various activities, you can also earn 5 Uranium for every 5 player levels up to level 31, and you will earn 5 Uranium for each level after 31.

Indeed, you read that right. The level cap is coming off in Generation Zero, partially anyway. With the new maximum level reaching 10k for those that are running and gunning their way to prestige!

Farmlands Control Points

FNIX has been quite busy since the last update and has further encroached into the Farmlands region with new control points. 12 new control points are ready and waiting for you to raid them for all the loot needed to keep the resistance going! You’ll be able to hold up to 6 locations in this newly opened front. Here is a sneak peek at a couple of them so far:

Partial North Coast Revamp

There have been a few new iterations on the North Coast. The most affected areas are in Hagaboda, so hop on over to see all the new details and explore!

Tactical Equipment Pack

This paid DLC is bringing new tactics to the battlefield with scrapped together support equipment from past Resistance fights.

Autonomous Turret Sentry - This deployable mini-tower can give you cover fire while traversing an incursion.

Portable Cover - Assembled armor pieces from FNIX’s friends can now give you cover in a tight spot!

Remote Sticky Bombs - You’ll now be able to throw (and stick) multiple explosives to any incoming machine, perhaps even turning them into a makeshift weapon on the fly!

Dog Toy Lure - This trap is cute and cuddly, for a brief moment anyway, but will bring explosive hugs to its metallic friends after some time.

Molotov Cocktail- A classic weapon for any resistance! Throwing these will not only damage machines but will also burn fuel on the ground for added effect.

Generation Zero® - kissemiss

The Resistance has started creating more makeshift weapons to ensure they can continue to fight the machines, even when more conventional ammo is hard to find. Which weapon will you wield - the Pitchfork, Heavy Bow, or Flamethrower?

Included in this pack you will find these new Resistance makeshift weapons, special ammo, and attachments:
  • Resistance Pitchfork - It might at first look like a simple farmer’s tool, but this pitchfork has been reinforced and transformed into an effective Resistance weapon. The pitchfork has excellent reach, which is great for doing damage from a safer distance.
  • Resistance Heavy Bow - Built using scavenged machine parts, this heavy bow packs a powerful punch, but requires more skill to use. The enhanced power of the bow also allows it to fire heavy, modified arrows, making this a versatile tool.
  • Resistance Flamethrower - While it may look like an accident waiting to happen, the flamethrower's powerful napalm fuel causes massive damage to machines by sticking to them while it burns, quickly melting its vulnerable internal parts.
Special weapon ammo and attachments include:
  • Resistance Arrows - The Standard does a lot of damage to components, the Explosive detonates on impact dealing extra damage, and the Flare can be used to lure machines away or focus their fire.
  • 3-Pin Makeshift Bow Sight - This sight features three pins calibrated to hit at a certain distance, working best when the distance to the target is known.
  • Large Flamethrower Tank - A larger tank that can hold more fuel, letting you relentlessly melt enemy machines for longer without needing to refuel.

With the release of the Base Assault Update, there are more places to ransac FNIX for supplies or defend resistance bases. At least that was our main intent: to offer more activities in-game for all to enjoy!

Unfortunately, the update also came with a bug that we could not find in our battery of testing we did before release. We saw some early signs after the initial release that there was a growing problem, but it took some time to confirm and identify the issue.

This is currently causing many people (upwards of 40% of users) who are engaging with combat/base assault/base defense to only be able to get one base to spawn. After which, nothing spawns on the map regardless of how high a player pushes the region score.

From what we’ve seen thus far, depending on individual players’ timing, it can cause the game to potentially be saved in an incorrect state. This causes further issues with the logic behind the generation of new FNIX bases, and Base Defense triggers.

We have a potential fix that needs to go through more testing before we can release it to everyone, but we can confirm a hotfix is coming for this. As always we are very grateful for the community reports flagging this, and the patience you’ve all shown during this period.

Due to the nature of the bug, the steps/rate it is possible to reproduce it, and the publishing cycle to get a fix to consoles, we will have to release the hotfix on Steam first and follow up with Xbox/Playstation just after. Once we have confirmed fixes we can update everyone with more precise dates.

We’re looking forward to getting Base Assault back online for everyone to enjoy soon! In the meantime, for anyone continuing to experience this issue, any additional information or save files can always help us find the problem, as well as the solution so please don't hesitate to contact our support here.

As you continue to successfully fend off countless machine attacks, the Resistance has once again been inspired to create new structures and decorations to upgrade your base with. Whether you decide to fortify your base or simply add a personal touch to it is up to you, but with this pack, you should be ready to face anything.

Included in the Base Support Pack you'll find these new building items:

  • Resistance Sniper Tower - A protected tower housing a Resistance marksman with a high-powered sniper rifle. The sharpshooter will use precision fire to pick off any hostile units that come into their field of view.
  • Medical Trailer - A makeshift medical station that heals anybody nearby. Stock it with healing consumables before a fight to allow it to function as the perfect one-stop healing spot in the heat of battle.
  • Classic Jukebox - Not only does it play various tunes to keep you motivated during the fight, but you can also use it as a lure to get enemy machines off you and other vital targets within the base.
  • Security Fences - Keep your enemies away from you without sacrificing your ability to see and shoot them! These chain-link fences are weaker than a regular defensive wall, and they won't protect you from bullets, but they are effective at stopping enemies in their tracks.
  • FNIX War Trophies (decorative) - Cherish past victories with these mounted trophies of fallen enemies. Comes in Tick, Runner, Hunter, and Tank variations.
  • Portable Spotlight (decorative) - A portable spotlight that you can position to light up strategic spots around their base, covering a 130-degree area.
  • Old Outhouse (decorative) - Everybody needs to go sometime, even in the thick of battle, so why not come prepared with an outhouse.

Our second patch for the year is here; say hello to the Base Assault Update! With this release, we’re introducing not only new features and exciting new narrative but also long sought-after improvements to the map and inventory.

Base Assault

As you might have seen in our Announcement Trailer, FNIX and the Machines have learned and evolved which has led us to the new mode, Base Assault. This is an exciting new addition to Generation Zero where players attack procedurally generated FNIX bases in the Forest Region!

Thanks to the groundbreaking new system that we have developed for this, each playthrough is unique, due to a large number of base layouts and challenges. The difficulty, size, and layout of each base can also evolve, like our Rivals, if players continue to increase the threat level in the region.

Not only are all assaults unique, but you will also face dangerous challenges and tricks from FNIX in each attack. This includes deadly turrets, mines, and FNIX reinforcements. Just like your own player-built base, these bases are fully destructible and if you’re clever enough you’ll use this to your advantage as you shoot your way to the various objectives and look for looting opportunities within.

If you manage to conquer one of the FNIX bases you’ll be rewarded with Command Tokens which you can use to convert conquered or neutral control point locations to the Resistance! Using Command Tokens will enable you to open up a whole new set of locations to build additional bases.

New bases you say? The Forest region now has seven new control point locations in addition to the original one that was added with the Resistance Update! As a player, you can build bases on any of these and have up to four bases active within the region. But be aware, these can be attacked by FNIX through base defense missions.

World Improvements

Our world revamps continue and this time we’ve been working with the renewal of the Marshlands to be more in line with the Soviet narrative that we’ve introduced with the Landfall Update. As with previous revamps, old locations have been updated to add more detail, variation, and narrative and in addition to this there are also several new exciting locations to discover as you explore the region.

New Side Missions

It’s finally time to find out where they came from! The Base Assault Update introduces two new side missions linked to the Matryoshka collectibles that we’ve introduced in the Landfall Update. But, there's a twist; This time we’re seeing it from the eyes of the Resistance. Explore the Marshlands region to find out more!

Free Buildings Pack

This update is not all about Assault, even though that might be the fun part! To give your base some new flair we’re bringing you the free Soviet Buildings Pack. These can be used for any of your Forest region bases once they’ve been claimed by the Resistance.

Defense
  • Soviet Pillbox: Sturdy shooting position manned by a hidden fighter using an AI-76 assault rifle that fires automatically at any hostile unit that comes within its field of view.
  • Soviet Guardhouse: Tall shooting position made of concrete, steel, and sandbags.
Walls
  • Soviet Reinforced Wall: A tall wall made of concrete and steel features a shooting hatch that can be opened manually.
  • Soviet Reinforced Pylon: Tall pylon made of concrete and steel that is great for adding corners and end posts to high walls.
  • Soviet Reinforced Gate: Tall gate made of concrete and steel that can be opened manually or automatically.
  • Soviet Barrier: Low barricade made of steel and sandbags.
  • Soviet Barrier Pylon: Low concrete pylon that is great for adding corners and end posts to barricades.
  • Soviet Concrete Wall: Tall, thick, and sturdy concrete wall with barbed wire on top.
  • Soviet Concrete Pylon: Tall concrete pylon with barbed wire on top that’s great for adding corners and end posts to high walls.
  • Soviet Gate: A steel gate with beautiful emblems and can be opened manually or automatically.
Decorative
  • Large Soviet Crate: A wooden crate used by Soviet forces to transport items.
UX Improvements

Inventory Sorting

You’ve asked for it, and here it is; Inventory Sorting. We’ve now added a number of filters and sorting methods for each section of the inventory. Now, you’ll be able, for example, to sort all your Primary Weapons by Alphabetical or Chronological order, Damage Output, Quality, etc., or filter them by Quality (good, worn, dilapidated, etc.) or Ammo Type, just to mention a few criteria. Make sure to try it out to find your own preferences!

Map Icon Filters

You can now filter icons of different categories on the map. Additionally, you can create your own custom filter to display only the icons you are interested in.
