Hayo Zookeepers!

It's time to venture into the tall grass to find animals hiding in it. Introducing the Planet Zoo: Grasslands Animal Pack which will be making its way to you on 13 December alongside Free Update 1.12!

What's hiding in the tall grass, you ask? A plethora of fascinating wildlife that calls the steppes, plains, and prairies across the world their home!

Say hello to the Nine-Banded Armadillo, with its extraordinary armour; the Maned Wolf with its impressively long legs; the curious Emu, with its recognisable grey plumage; the agile and ellusive Caracal; the remarkable Red-necked Wallaby; the scavenging Striped Hyena; and the striking Blue Wildebeest. These come with new and unique behaviours, like the Nine-Banded Armadillo's preening and sniffing, or the Caracal's bouncing and floppy ears. We're sure both you and your guests will enjoy these new species!

In addition, you can also add a stunning assortment of five colourful species of Butterfly to populate your Walkthrough Exhibits, including: Cloudless Sulphur, European Peacock, Menelaus Blue Morpho, Monarch, and Old World Swallowtail. These flying insects can be kept together as the game’s first ever interspecies-compatible exhibit animals. 🦋

You'll also be able to test your management skills with the brand new Career Scenario set within the picturesque grasslands of Argentina! You'll be working alongside wealthy socialite Tiffany Summers to help her learn the importance of animal care and animal sanctuaries in species conservation. You'll be relocating the diverse inhabitants of her sprawling mansion to a more suitable new home. We're sure your zoo management magic can make life much better for these animals.

This new Career Scenario follows after the Career Scenario from the Twilight Pack, and we are incredibly excited to continue this narrative! Don't worry though, you won't have to have played the previous Career Scenario to follow the story, and you can jump in completely fresh if you want to.

The Planet Zoo: Grasslands Animal pack will be available for purchase for £7.99 ($9.99, 9.99€) on Steam from 13 December. If you want to be notified when the game is available, then head on over to Steam and wishlist it now! Please remember that you'll only be able to enjoy the Planet Zoo: Grasslands Animal Pack if you already own the base game of Planet Zoo.

Don't forget to also join us on our social media channels for the upcoming animal reveals in the run-up to the Grasslands Animal Pack! You can find us on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.

We hope you enjoyed this announcement, and we look forward to seeing you over on our social channels! Let us know what your favourite bit was below. Stay green, Zookeepers! 🦋

Hayo Zookeepers!

It's beginning to look a lot like....a Planet Zoo update! It's time to celebrate exciting new additions coming to Planet Zoo. Introducing ✨ free update 1.12 ✨ which is heading your way on 13 December 🕫

Keep on reading to find out what you can expect in this new update.

Guided Tours
It's time to give your guests the VIP treatment with the new Guided Tours coming! Guided Tours are a brand new way to offer guests more in-depth information about your zoo and your exhibits. Tours are personal and will be conducted by an educator, they will then guide your guests through the zoo and educate them with lots of wonderful facts about your animals as well as life at the zoo. Guided Tours are also completely customiseable, which means you will be able to plan out your guests' journeys through your park by placing Tour Points at desired destinations. This means guests will be specifically guided to the habitats you assigned in your tour for them to admire and the places they stop to recharge their needs. A unique and unforgettable experience each time!

The VIP treatment also means more opportunities to earn additional income for your zoo! Guests will have to pay an extra tour fee in addition to the zoo entry price, and will also spend money to take care of their needs during tour breaks or after, with their desire to spend relating to how well they rated the tour as well.

Diorama Mode
Inspired by one of our Planet Zoo community members, Rudi Rennkamel 🐫, we're introducing the new Diorama Mode, a new type of terrain for you to create your very own dioramas! You can select this new terrain type in sandbox mode and it will provide you with a blank diorama that you're free to build upon as you'd like. You can then upload your diorama to the Steam Workshop to share it with the rest of the Planet Zoo community

Bulldozer Tool
We've also made removing things from your zoos a little faster by adding a Bulldozer tool in update 1.12! It's now faster than ever to remove large amounts of scenery, paths and objects in your park. You also have the ability to mix and match what type of object you want to remove with the bulldozer. Combining the functionality to remove multiple types of items at once using one tool is sure to make the experience of building and rebuilding more satisfying and streamlined.

As always, these exciting new features in Update 1.12 come with various fixes and quality of life additions, which will be included in the full patch notes upon release.

We'll have more news for you soon, but until then, join us later today 7:00PM GMT for a very Special livestream where we will also go over in more detail what's coming in the 1.12 free update. We'll be live on Twitch and YouTube - we'll see you there!

Hayo Zookeepers,

Wippi Abbonibo (or Happy Anniversary in English)! This weekend marks the 3rd Anniversary of Planet Zoo, so we're celebrating by providing you with some exciting new things for you to enjoy in Planet Zoo 👀🎉

Free update 1.11.2, featuring the brand new Anniversary content is available right now (just update your game!) and will include some fun additions to help you celebrate our third birthday in style! We've also got a few exciting things going on outside of the game itself, so without further ado, let's take a closer look at what's going on for this year's Planet Zoo Anniversary!

First up, we've got a brand new friend to introduce you to - meet the Red Deer, which will shortly be available to add to your zoos!

The Red Deer is one of the largest deer species, inhabiting most of Europe along with Northern Africa and West Asia, and is widespread enough to be considered Least Concern status. We're really excited to see the kinds of habitats you create for them in your zoos!

Of course, it wouldn't be an Anniversary celebration without one very important feature - animal balloons! With this free update, your guests will now be able to hold one of four animal balloons: a Tiger, Giraffe, Chimpanzee, or Red Panda! This will be a permanent addition to the game, which we're sure your guests will love!

Finally in the way of in-game content, we have a limited-time celebration happening in-game this weekend: there will be a special Community Challenge from 4th-6th November! In this special event, you'll receive a boosted animal that has an 80%+ in any gene in return for every 5 you release (with a 1 in 50 chance of having Piebald or leucistic colouring!), and will gain a complete Avatar outfit for every 20 animals released - so both you and your animals will be looking your best! Speaking of which...

The time has come, Zookeepers - the moment you've all been waiting for! Very shortly, you'll be able to purchase your very own Planet Zoo Merch to celebrate the third year of simulation running wild! Planet Zoo t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, mugs, posters and more will be available to buy from the official Planet Zoo store - so you can celebrate our third Anniversary in style. Slip into a super comfortable Paws and Leaves sweatshirt, sip from an exclusive habitat mug, or grab a deskpad branded with gorgeous art from the game. Pick your favourite animal and show your love for nature with these cute and colourful designs and products. Find the store itself here.

Last but not least, what's a good party without a little music? 'You, Me & Other Habitats', a selection of 12 tracks from Planet Zoo and its packs will take you for a trip around the world and will be available to stream from today across your favourite streaming services. You can find it on Spotify here

Thank you all so much for being such an amazing community, Planet Zoo wouldn't be the incredible place it is without all of YOU!

Last, but certainly not least, don't forget to join us later today for a celebratory Anniversary Livestream, on Twitch or YouTube where we'll have special guests RudiRennkamelPlasticSwans, and ZWED, IN THE STUDIO! We'll be talking Planet Zoo, checking out the new content, doing giveaways, and more! We'll see you there (green heart emoji)

Hayo Zookeepers!

It's time to discover what happens when the sun sets, with the Planet Zoo: Twilight Pack and free Update 1.11, both out now! You can grab the pack on Steam, and update your game to be able to enjoy the free content!

Meet your curious new residents: five cunning animals including the Raccoon, Common Wombat, Red Fox, Striped Skunk, and you'll also see the Egyptian Fruit Bat soar!

The brand new Planet Zoo: Twilight Pack will also allow you to create a truly thrilling zoo with more than 200 scenery pieces inspired by gothic architecture and spooky celebrations. Enjoy haunted décor and creepy elements like spider web benches, carved pump jack-o'-lanterns, and even a spooky cauldron to help make your zoo as atmospheric as possible. Of course, we haven't forgotten some fall flora, so you'll also be able to incorporate Ivy, Foxgloves, and even piles of scattered leaves to add to the ambiance.

Finally, the Twilight Pack will also bring you a brand new Campaign Scenario, the first one since the Arctic Pack! Dominic Myers has abandoned a Transylvanian zoo in a state of complete disrepair, and Nancy is going to need your help to fix it up. You'll also have to contend with the needs of an in-world-famous Himalayan Bear, which guests are flocking to in droves - with the spotlight on you, you will need to make sure the Bear is getting everything they need. We're sure you're up to the task!

The Planet Zoo: Twilight Pack is available now on Steam for £7.99 ($9.99, 9.99€)

You must have the base Planet Zoo game to be able to play this content. Update 1.11 is out now to install and is free for all players.

Update 1.11 is free and available to all players who own the base Planet Zoo game! Simply update your game now to play.

This free Update has some exciting new features, including Educator Exhibit Demonstrations, Customisable Exhibit Backdrops, New Biome Skirts, a New Animal Behaviour allowing large escaped animals to attack bins and rummage for food, and the addition of Sounds of Summer to your in-game Speakers. You can read more about the free update in the announcement post, but we'll share a selection of highlights for you here, too.

Your guests will be able to get closer to exhibit animals than ever before with new Educator Exhibit Demonstrations, where your Educators can take out exhibit animals and hold them during Educator Talks to give your guests demonstrations. This will be available for a wide range of species and there are different ways your Educators may hold them, so we hope you enjoy seeing how your favourites are included in Talks. Not all species are included as some are either too large or unsafe to handle (so animals such as the Common Death Adder or Golden Poison Frog will have to stay in their exhibit at a safe distance!).

Customisable Exhibit Backdrops are also now available for your Zoo, so that you can use any image you'd like as a 2D backdrop for exhibits. This means you can incorporate theming and customise exhibits like never before - we can't wait to see what you do with this new feature.

Speaking of customisation...Update 1.11 also brings with it 12 New Biome Skirts and 1 Reskin Design, which will provide more variation to your zoo maps, and allow for more diverse landscapes for your zoos.

Some of your animals will also exhibit a new behaviour upon escaping their habitats - attacking bins! If a large enough animal escapes their habitat, they'll knock over bins around your zoo and begin eating the contents...yuck! Luckily, as the contents of your bin will be leftover food from your guests, your animals won't get sick from this new behaviour. This will impact the quality of their last meal, though, so they might be a little unhappy until they're returned to their habitat and given access to fresh food more in keeping with their needs.

If you joined us for the Sounds of Summer launch stream, or have managed to enjoy the album on YouTube since, we've got a treat for you! You'll now be able to use these tracks on your in-game speakers, bringing the chilled lo-fi vibes to your zoo and giving your guests (and you!) the perfect soundtrack to say goodbye to summer with.

There are lots more features included in Update 1.11, including new Piebald variants of some species, exhibit camera improvements, a ramp terrain stamp, and more! For more information, read the Update 1.11 announcement post, or check out the full Update Notes, below!

We can't wait to see what you create with the Planet Zoo: Twilight Pack and the new features in Update 1.11! Don't forget to join us for a launch livestream later today, on Twitch or YouTube.

New Content - Free Update 1.11.0
  • NEW - Automated Exhibit Population Management
    • We have added a new mechanism by which you can delegate repeat population management in exhibits.
    • Animal populations in exhibits can now be managed automatically in accordance to user-defined rule sets. For both male and female animals in the exhibit, set the following rules:
      • Max. number of animals
      • Processing options:
        • Store in Trade Centre
        • Sell for Cash
        • Release to Wild
      • Removal Priority:
        • Age
        • Genetic Appeal
        • Cash Value
        • Conservation Credit Value
        • and select whether the above rule is prioritised by the Highest or Lowest value
      • Exemptions:
        • A list of all animals in the exhibit allows you to set an animal as exempt from the rules. Have an animal you really wish to keep? Fret not, if you exempt it the population management will skip it and remove the next best fitting animal for the rules, so your friends are safe and sound in their exhibit homes.
  • NEW - Piebald Colourmorph Gene
    • Piebaldism describes patterns of unpigmentes areas across an animal's skin or coat, resulting in really unique-looking patterns. This rare genetic expression is now available to the following species in Planet Zoo:
      • Nyala
      • Pronghorn Antelope
      • Springbok
      • Red Fox
    • Like other morphs, piebaldism is inherited recessively.
    • On animals that can exhibit morphs other than leucism/albinism, piebaldism may be expressed additively - so keep an eye out for colourful combinations!
  • NEW - Educator Exhibit Demonstrations
    • Educators are now able to hold and showcase exhibit animals to guests during an animal talk about an exhibit species
    • These animations are available to all species that aren't too large or unsafe to handle (so animals such as the Common Death Adder or Golden Poison Frog will have to stay in their exhibit at a safe distance!). Animals that can be held are:
      • Giant Burrowing Cockroach
      • Titan Beetle
      • Goliath Beetle
      • Giant Forest Scorpion
      • Giant Tiger Land Snail
      • Goliath Frog
      • Goliath Birdeater
      • Brazilian Salmon Pink Tarantula
      • Lehmann's Poisong Frog
      • Mexican Red Knee Tarantula
      • Giant Desert Hairy Scorpion
      • Eastern Blue Tongued Lizard
      • Diamondback Terrapin
      • Giant Leaf Insect
      • Dung Beetle
      • American Bullfrog
      • Fire Salamander
      • Danube Crested Newt
      • Axolotl
    • Depending on the species, educators hold the animals with one or both hands, or have them rest on their shoulder
    • Alongside this, Animal Talk Points now display an image on their base of the animal that is being spoken about to make it easier for you to know what's happening at a glance
  • NEW - Custom Exhibit Facades
    • Exhibit backdrops can now be customised with your own images for greater variety
    • Add your static images to the custom media folder in order to use them with the exhibits: Documents\Frontier Developments\Planet Zoo\UserMedia
    • Custom facades should follow an aspect ratio of 1024 x 815 and can use any of the following extensions: .png, .jpg, .jpeg, .bmp, .tiff, or .tga
  • NEW - Improved Exhibit Cameras
    • Exhibits have received an overhaul of their camera functionality. Selecting the camera button at the bottom of an exhibit's info panel now gives you the option to either view one of the exhibit's interior cameras, or get really close to the individual exhibit animals using their orbit camera
    • As with other cameras, the camera mode UI while in either the interior or orbit camera mode allow you to cycle through all available interior cameras of the facility or orbit cameras for all animals inside the exhibit
  • NEW - Walkthrough Exhibit
    • Walkthrough Exhibits feature a built-in path through its length that can be customised, while the interior space automatically changes to the species' associated base when added. It can also be further customised with scenery objects
    • These exhibits don't feature classic facades. Instead, all walls, floor, and ceiling of a Walkthrough Exhibit can be customised by setting the material to one of a selection of solid, wire mesh, glass or even nothing at all. Additionally, built-in doors around the path can be toggled on or off.
    • Walkthrough Exhibits will feel familiar, as they function the same as the existing Exhibits. When adding your animals, you will need to ensure to set the correct temperature for them, and research the species to access and toggle all three levels of enrichment to keep them happy.

Hayo Zookeepers,

We told you the sun had set on summer, and what does the sunset lead to? That's right, Twilight! Introducing the Planet Zoo: Twilight Pack which will be making its way to you on 18 October alongside Free Update 1.11!

What goes bump in the night? It's five new crepuscular species for your Zoo's to enjoy!

Give a warm welcome to everyone's favourite bandit, the mischievous Raccoon. Gasp at the cuteness of one of the most beloved Australian marsupials, the Common Wombat. Sneak through the Twilight with the ever-clever Red Fox, but be careful of the Striped Skunk! And last, but certainly not least, take flight with the Egyptian Fruit Bat as we bring you an all-new exclusive feature, Walkthrough Exhibits.

Walkthrough Exhibits are a new special feature coming in the Twilight Pack, featuring an exhibit with a bigger footprint (20m L x 12m W x 8m H) that will allow you to house the new Egyptian Fruit Bats. While these will be exclusive to the Egyptian Fruit Bat in the Twilight Pack, the exhibit itself will be available to all players as part of Free Update 1.11 to allow all builders to have fun with the exhibit itself if they so wish.

Builders will also be able to enjoy 200+ new scenery items, some of which really make the most of the spooky season!

Set the ambience with a whole new set of gothic inspired building pieces including a range of Romanian architecture, a portcullis, and even zoo-thematic gargoyles! If you really want to capture the spirit of Hallowe'en and create an area your guests are sure to never forget, you'll love our new  jack-o'-lanterns, glowing mushrooms, spider webs, and even a cauldron!

Nature isn't being forgotten though. As well as the carved pumpkins, we're also adding a range of thrilling plants! Hide in the shade of the twisted Bristlecone Pine, or decorate a pumpkin patch with new plants including Ghost Fungus, Foxglove, and piles of scattered fall leaves.

We have one more special surprise still in store... introducing a brand new Career Scenario!

Give Them Pumpkin to Talk About as we head to a Transylvania-based zoo that's been left abandoned by our old "friend", Dominic Myers. Joined by Nancy, you'll arrive and learn you have a new famous Bear to look after! Having been kept by an in-world celebrity and not looked after properly, this Himalayan Bear has made quite a name for itself in the news, and now guests are flocking to come and see it themselves. Work together to give the Bear the best life possible, and to create a spooktacular experience your guests are sure to love! 🎃

This will be the first Career Scenario since the Arctic Pack, so we're sure you're just as excited as us to get your hands on it! This Scenario will feature a new letter system to pass you all the information you need to complete the task at hand - and it'll even feature some cute selfies from Nancy!

The Planet Zoo: Twilight Pack will be available for purchase for £7.99 ($9.99, 9.99€) on Steam from 18 October. If you want to be notified when the game is available, then head on over to Steam and wishlist it now! Please remember that you'll only be able to enjoy the Planet Zoo: Twilight Pack if you already own the base game of Planet Zoo.

Hayo Zookeepers,

The sun has set on summer once again and with it come some Planet Zoo news! We hope you enjoyed the announcement of Sounds of Summer, a musical experience of 12 chill-hop tracks to enjoy for all the lo-fi fans out there. If you missed it then fret not, you can find all the information you need here.

However, that's not all! Introducing the 1.11 free update which will be making its way to you on 18 October. Keep on reading below to see what you can look forward to!

Educator Exhibit Demonstrations
Ever wanted to get up close and personal with your exhibit animals? Well, now you can - or your guests can, at least!

As of Update 1.11, Educators will be able to take exhibit animals out and hold them for display and demonstration when giving talks to guests. This will be available for a wide variety of species but not all, as very large, dangerous and/or unsafe species will not be included (such as the Common Death Adder and the Golden Poison Frog). After all, we want to keep both your Educators and guests safe!

During Talks, an Educator will proceed to showcase them to guests, before resuming the talk as normal. Educators will either hold them one-handed, two-handed, or on their shoulder depending on species, so play around and see how your favourites are held!

Alongside this, Animal Talk Points will now display an image on their base of the animal that is being spoken about to make it easier for you to know what's happening at a glance.

Customisable Exhibit Backdrops
Your Exhibits are getting another upgrade too with the addition of customisable 2D backdrops! Now you can change the background image of your Exhibits to anything you want, allowing you to personalise and theme your Exhibits in an entirely new way! Do you have a themed area of your Zoo that you want to add a design for? Or maybe you just want to feature your own pictures from your favourite Zoo trips - anything is possible! We can't wait to see what designs you come up with.

As a default option, all of the 4 current 2D facades will be available to use on any exhibit so you can change their theming to suit the area instead of the species if so desired.

Exhibit Population Management
Thought that was all? Nope! Exhibits are getting a management upgrade with the new Population Management Tab.

We know the rate at which Exhibit animals reproduce can be....quite fast! So now you will be able to automatically handle the overpopulation of your exhibits. With the ability to set different rules for the males and females of the species, you'll be able to ensure your Exhibits are properly maintained. Set your max population count for each, your priority filters (such as if they should be removed by oldest first), and then decide what to do with the excess - put them in storage, sell them, or release them to the wild.

If you have friends in your Exhibits that you're worried about, don't fret! You can set custom exemptions on specific animals that will override your management filters, so your favourite animals are safe and sound.

Exhibit Camera Improvements
Last, but certainly not least, your Exhibit Cameras are getting an upgrade.

The Interior Camera has been improved to allow you a better view of inside your Exhibits, and you can get up close and personal with your animals with the all-new Orbit mode. This will be familiar as it works similarly to the Habitat Camera and will lock on and track whichever animal is selected.

New Biome Skirts
Your maps are getting an upgrade too with a set of brand new biome skirts!

Create a new look for your zoos with 12 new biome skirts and 1 reskin design to allow you even more variation when determining the look of your landscape.

Ramp Terrain Stamp
To allow you even more terrain variation (and an easier time producing it!) we're also introducing a brand new Ramp Terrain Stamp!

This terrain modification tool will allow you to easily create ramps, both as upward hills, and downward slopes. With the ability to customise the length, width, and slope of the ramp, it'll be easier than ever before to customise your layout - and easier to create inclined paths!

Piebald
Piebaldism describes patterns of unpigmented spots across an animal's skin or coat, resulting in some really unique-looking variants. This rare genetic expression is added as a new colourmorph to some species in Planet Zoo. As of Update 1.11, you'll be able to discover and enjoy this look on your Nyala, Pronghorn Antelope and Springbok!

New Animal Behaviour - Escapes!
Escaped animals will now get up to even more mischief, with a range of new behaviours that will diversify the way escaped animals act. For example, escaped animals will now have the ability to attack bins! If an animal of large enough size escapes, they will proceed to knock over bins they come across and eat the garbage inside - ick! Don't worry though, as the trash is just food waste left by guests, it won't cause a disease risk to your animals. However, it still isn't healthy for your animals and will impact the quality of their last meal. Make sure to quickly return them to their enclosures and provide them with a safe and healthy snack from the comfort of their habitat.

Sounds of Summer - Speaker Upgrade
We're continuing the celebration of Sounds of Summer by bringing it to your Zoos! As of Update 1.11, you'll be able to play any of the tracks from Sounds of Summer through your in-game Speakers. Allow your guests to relax with 12 new chill-hop tracks inspired by the Planet Zoo soundtrack, and enjoy a lo-fi experience as you kick back and relax and build your Zoo.

That's not all! From today you will be able to find Sounds of Summer on multiple streaming services! Just search for "Planet Zoo: Sounds of Summer" and enjoy. You can find it in places including, but not limited to:
To our very talented Planet Zoo content creators, you'll be delighted to know that these tracks are also entirely DMCA-free, so you can use every single track on your Planet Zoo livestreams and YouTube videos without worrying about content strikes. (Make sure it’s Planet Zoo though!)
