General Bug Fixes and Improvements

Animals
- Fixed the Red Kangaroo research not unlocking the small ball and hanging barrel enrichment items
- Fixed the Reindeer Male animation deforming when transitioning between standing and running
- Fixed the Capuchin Monkey's education board from incorrectly displaying the Taiga biome icon
- Fixed a bug where the leucistic Eurasian Lynx's colour variation description wasn't displayed in its info panel
- Fixed the American Beaver occasionally displaying water VFX when walking on dry land
- Fixed the North American Beaver occasionally falling through Beaver Pool as it approaches the water
- Fixed a bug where the first education boost wasn't unlocked after researching the Fire Salamander
- Fixed animal visuals occasionally popping when exiting the burrow
- Fixed European exhibit blueprints. They now all place with new, empty exhibit boxes
- Fixed the European Badger Juvenile's right cheek twitching and deforming during walking
- Fixed the Alpine Ibex Juvenile animation clipping when using the scratching tree
- Fixed the Alpine Ibex not nudging the small barrel feeder correctly
- Fixed the Alpine Ibex not making any sounds when dying due to predation
- Fixed the Alpine Ibex floating when using Goat Climbing Mountain enrichment
- Fixed the Alpine Ibex wound tracks from not appearing
- Fixed food not coming out of the Skittle Feeder and Dog Ball enrichment when being used by the European Badger
- Fixed the Eurasian Lynx Juvenile lower jaw clipping into upper jaw when moving from a stand to resting
- Fixed the musical keyboard not making any sounds while being used by the Bornean Orangutan Juvenile
- Fixed food not coming out of the Dog Ball enrichment when being used by the Sea Lion Juvenile
- Fixed the straw bedding textures from flickering inside the Animal Burrow
- Guests will no longer flee from adult European Fallow Deer, making them viable for walkthrough habitats
- Removed Dall Sheep tags from the Goat Mountain enrichment, as the species cannot use it
Scenery
- Added 'Grid' tag to the Vertical Wooden Plank Roof Flat Quarter Circle 02
- Fixed the Ferry Entrance's tags to 'Grid Prop'

- Moved and reset the stuck vendors in Al's Pine Zoo
Guests
- Fixed an issue where guests would arrive to stand at an animal talk too early
Staff
- Fixed Vet getting stuck trying to remove a dead animal
- Fixed the Restaurant Staff in the kitchen not playing their animations while restaurant is open
Game Modes
UI
- Updated the animal camera so it will automatically switch inside a burrow when following the animal
- Added Steam workshop tags for the Europe pack items when uploading blueprints
- Fixing the 'favourite' status of an animal not being consistently updated across all UI screens
- Fixing consistency issues with how the exhibit memorial UI was sorted, now making sure favourited entries are displayed properly regardless of which column is used to sort
- Fixed duplicate strings in some tooltips in barrier browser and terrain browser
- In the Animal Talk and Restaurant Table linking UI, creating an empty drag selection will no longer enable the "Link/Unlink" button
- Fixed biome filters not remaining after closing down the Zoopedia
Stability
- Fixed a crash that could happen when manipulating a track station queue, such as moving the station exit
- Fixed a crash when trying to play custom video on Memorial Plaque Screen after playing the same video on a standard billboard. Webm's can now be played on Memorial Plaques normally
- Fixed a crash that could happen when the mother of an animal born inside a burrow was sold/died

New Content - Free Update 1.8

NEW - Restaurants
- The new restaurant feature allows you to create piece by piece dining areas for your guests. These facilities will satisfy guests' hunger, thirst, and energy needs
- Found in the Facilities > Guest Facilities browser, place down the new restaurant facility to start the process of setting one up:
  - At least one of the new restaurant tables will need to be placed and linked to the restaurant for it to be open to your guests
  - Restaurant tables are found in the new Facilities > Bins, Benches and Security > Restaurant Tables browser
  - From the Restaurant's info panel's 'Tables' tab, up to 20 tables can be placed and linked within 30m of the Restaurant
  - Tables do not need to be on a path to be usable by guests, but must not be within a dangerous animal's habitat
  - Tables in habitats that become dangerous from adding animals will be automatically unlinked from the restaurant
- Guests will automatically be seated at a free table when entering the restaurant, which will depend on the assigned vendor's skill level. A Trainee can only handle a limited amount of tables, so be sure to let more experienced staff handle your busiest restaurants
NEW - Animal Burrows
- With the new Animal Burrow, suitable animals won't only spend time underground for leisure, but will seek out the safety of their burrow to take care of their needs. Animal Burrows are available for:
  - European Badger
  - Aardvark
- The Animal Burrow is a placeable habitat object - it has an entrance that always aligns with the terrain, and an underground chamber that smartly positions itself in the terrain below the entrance, in which the animals will be residing
- Burrows count as hard shelter, and animals will seek out burrows to take care of the following needs:
  - Seeking shelter from weather or bad temperatures
  - Sleeping
  - Giving birth: If one is available, expectant mothers will reserve a burrow in the habitat to give birth to their litters. They will stay underground until the little ones are a bit older and leave to explore the habitat
- The burrow comes with an internal habitat webcam that can be accessed via the burrow’s info panel, so you can always check in on your animals while they are underground
- These cameras can be linked to billboard screens via the billboard’s replace image dropdown - we've added a new tab to the custom media selection that lists all available burrows in your zoo
NEW - Animal Memorials
- Memorials can be placed into your park to teach your guests about any animal that has died in your park and commemorate their life in your zoo
- This feature adds a new management UI to the zoo overview panel, listing both exhibit and habitat animals deaths separately, which records up to 200 entries at the same time containing information like the animal's name, age, and cause of death
  - Once the list is full, the oldest entries will be overwritten
  - Animal entries can be marked as 'favourite' to prevent them from deletion
- Selecting an entry in the UI, you can choose one of the three memorial assets to place directly in your zoo. This memorial will then contain the data of the chosen animal, and attract guests who will view the memorial. The available assets are:
  - Memorial Plaque Screen - a screen asset with custom image functionality, similar to the billboards already in-game
  - Memorial Plaque Editable Sign Brass - a dedicated plaque featuring the animals name and other information in brass
  - Memorial Plaque Editable Sign Limestone - a dedicated plaque featuring the animals name and other information in limestone
- Memorials can also directly be placed without pre-set animal data from the Facilities > Media Devices and Education > Visual Media browser, should you wish to create a memorial for an animal that isn't recorded in the memorial UI
  - Memorial information can be edited on the memorial's info panel, where you can also replace the Memorial Plaque Screen's image or change the Memorial Plaque Editable Signs' font properties

- Expanded Colourmorph System
  - The colourmorph system is now able to support more than one morph per species. This expanded system is still tied to the genetic system, with animals carrying and inheriting genes for possible morphs
  - For now, this system is available for the European Fallow Deer that has three different colourmorphs available, and the European Badger with two different morphs for you to discover and breed
  - The leucistic Llama also makes its return as an additional colourmorph for this species

We hope you've enjoyed our magical winter tale experience, but of course, every fairytale needs a good ending - and what better way to end than with releasing the Pack? The Europe Pack and Update 1.8 are officially out now, so you can update your game now to enjoy!

The Planet Zoo: Europe Pack introduces 5 new animal friends to create your own winter magic with! If you loved the Planet Zoo winter tale, you can now have your very own Lumi with the new Eurasian Lynx. Not only this, you can welcome his musical friends - the Fallow Deer with their soft brown fur, the short and sturdy European Badger, the mountainous Alpine Ibex, and the slender Fire Salamander.

For those of you who love building, this pack is definitely one you don't want to miss - with over 250 new scenery pieces inspired by various European countries and cultures, you'll be spoilt for choice! This includes items that capture our magical winter theming, as well as inspirations from Italy, France, Germany, The Netherlands, and Switzerland! We've also included a lot of water and bridge elements, so you can create your very own Magical Wishing Bridge!

Lastly, see if you can handle the cold in an all-new Timed Scenario set at the foot of an alpine mountain. Challenge yourself to complete 3 distinct areas, each inspired by a different European location, to create a wonderful multicultural experience - we know you can do it!

The Planet Zoo: Europe Pack is available now on Steam for £7.99 ($9.99, 9.99€). You must have the base Planet Zoo game to be able to play this content.

Update 1.8 is free for all players who own the Planet Zoo base game, and brings with it several new features we know you're all excited for such as Restaurants, a brand-new inclusion that allows you to create dining experiences for your guests! You can create restaurants with up to 20 tables connected, and they can even be made in walkthrough animal habitats. For a deep-dive on restaurants and how they work, check out this forum post.
Alongside this, you'll be able to give your guests even more new consumer experiences with all new Shop Counters! These give you a standalone, counter-only version of shops that allow you to create your very own, fully-customised shop fronts. Only a selection of shops will be available in this format for now, and you can find a full list of what's available here.

Prepare yourself for the winter cold with all-new animal burrows! Place these items on your terrain and they will automatically align themselves with an underground chamber that animals can seek shelter in, sleep, give birth, and adjust temperatures - perfect for chilly winter nights. Burrowing will be available for both the base game Aardvark and the new European Badger that comes with the Europe Pack!

Pay tribute to your beloved animals with Animal Memorials. This is a two-part feature, consisting of a UI screen that tracks information of the animals that pass away in your zoo such as their name, death date, and cause of death, and then also new memorial items that you can place in your zoos. There will be 3 options available - a Screen display option, and plaques in either Limestone or Brass. All memorial dedications can be autofilled with information from the UI screen, or customised individually, allowing you to write your own dedication lines or even create memorials for real-life animals (perfect for pets, or animals from your favourite zoos).

These features come alongside various other tweaks and fixes. For full information, check out this forum post and the update notes below.

Don't forget that Planet Zoo is also available on NVIDIA's GeForceNOW service, which gives you instant access to GeForce PC performance on nearly any PC, Mac, SHIELD TV, Android, iOS device or Chromebook without any downloads! This will let anyone dive into Planet Zoo and join the PlanZo fam.

Update 1.8 coming to Planet Zoo, 14 December

It's time for a deep dive into what you can expect to see in the next Planet Zoo free update! We're happy to announce that Update 1.8 will be available for you to dig into from 14 December

Restaurants
Restaurants are making their way to Planet Zoo! From fine dining to fast food, serve your guests a unique culinary experience with this new feature. With up to 20 tables able to be connected per restaurant, flexicolour table options, and table placement even being available in safe habitats, you've got the freedom to let your creativity run wild. For a full rundown of what you can expect, take a look at this forum post.

Shop Counters
Restaurants aren't the only new way your guests will be able to enjoy their time at your zoos - introducing shop counters! This alternate option of creating stores will provide you with a counter-only version for an assortment of shops, allowing you to create your own custom shop designs. Check out this list of what shop counters will be available:

On top of this, there will be new small signs of the shop logos for you to place on your builds. What theme are you going to do for your first custom shop?

Burrows
Dig down deep with our new animal burrowing behaviour, just in time for winter! This will allow certain animals to explore burrows that can be freely placed in your zoos, giving them a place to seek shelter, sleep, adjust to the correct temperature, or even give birth! The entrance to the burrow will always align with the terrain, which leads to an underground chamber that will position itself below the entrance.

But that's not all! The burrows will come with internal habitat cameras that you can access through the burrow info panels, so you can see exactly what's happening underground! Plus, with the ability to link them to billboard screens, this means your guests won't miss out either!

Animal Memorials
Lastly, we know losing your animals is never easy, and that's why we're adding animal memorials into the game. Give your beloved inhabitants a proper dedication to ensure that while they may be gone, they're never forgotten, and will always be part of your zoo This will be split into two parts: a new UI section to keep track of the animals that have passed away in your zoos, and physical memorials that you can place as a tribute to specific animals.

The memorials UI will be added as a new screen to the Zoo overview UI, and will contain two lists: one to track habitat animal deaths, and one for exhibit animals. Here you will find info on each animal that has passed, including their name, age, date of death, and cause of death. This will have a max entry level of 200, so if you have a particularly busy zoo with several generations of animals, your oldest animals may end up overwritten. Don't worry though! If you have animals you want to ensure stay on the list, we've added the ability to mark entries as "favourites" which protects them from being deleted. (Please note: this UI will be backdated to include existing animal data but cause of death was not previously stored, so this field may be empty for deaths prior to the 1.8 update).

From this menu, you can select an animal and then choose a memorial asset to place into the world. When creating a memorial you will be given two tabs of options. The first, "Overview", will show you a summary of all content on the memorial and will let you adjust the custom image or font colour (depending on asset). The second tab, "Animal Information", will let you adjust animal-specific information, such as what information is shown, or adding a dedication line.

When choosing what dedication to make, you'll be able to choose from 3 memorial assets:

Memorial Plaque Screen - a screen asset with custom image functionality, similar to the billboards already in-game
Memorial Plaque Editable Sign Brass - a dedicated plaque featuring the animals' name and other information in brass
Memorial Plaque Editable Sign Limestone - a dedicated plaque featuring the animals' name and other information in limestone

On top of this, should you wish to create an animal memorial for an animal outside of your zoo (such as a real-world pet), you can do this too. Simply place a blank memorial and edit it manually to include the right information.

Guests in your zoos will interact with your memorials by viewing them if they are close by, stopping to read the dedication, and then receiving a small mood boost due to appreciation of fond memories with the animal.

We hope these various memorial features allow you to create meaningful dedications to your beloved animals, both from within and outside of Planet Zoo.

Of course, as always, these features come alongside various tweaks and fixes that will be included in the patch notes upon release. We hope you're excited for this new content, as we're certainly excited to bring it to you and see what new dimension it brings to your Zoo builds!

Pack your warmest coat as you get ready to discover the charms of Europe. Travel across alpine mountain tops and through dense forests in a European winter tale like no other with the latest Planet Zoo pack!

We're thrilled to announce the Planet Zoo: Europe Pack will be available to buy on 14 December, 2021 releasing alongside free update 1.8.

Excited to find out which wonderful animals you'll be meeting in this pack? Look no further! We'll be introducing you to the Eurasian Lynx, the Alpine Ibex, the European Badger, the European Fallow Deer, and a hot new exhibit animal, the Fire Salamander, all of which will have their own requirements and challenges as you incorporate them into your zoos. Plus you'll get to see the European Badger resting in its burrows! We can't wait to see what kind of incredible habitats you're able to create for these new additions.

All the avid builders out there are in for a real treat, too: the addition of over 250 new scenery pieces, inspired by various European countries and cultures. You'll discover pieces influenced by Italy, France, Germany, The Netherlands, and Switzerland, as well as winter-themed scenery that will leave your zoo feeling super cosy. Plus, you'll notice lots of water and bridge theming throughout the new pieces, as well as some new foliage.

You'll also be able to challenge yourself with a brand new Timed Scenario, set in the foothills of an imposing alpine mountain. This zoo has three distinctly themed areas inspired by Italy, France, and Switzerland, which you'll need to successfully build across to complete the challenge. We're sure you can handle this, zookeepers!

Planet Zoo - 2nd Anniversary & Update 1.7.2!

Wippi Abbonibo, or Happy Anniversary in English! It's the 2nd anniversary of Planet Zoo tomorrow, and we have some exciting stuff for you all to celebrate! 🎉

Update 1.7.2 is available now (check out the Patch Notes below for full information on what it contains) and alongside it, we've included our new Anniversary gifts to y'all! These won't all be available just yet and will be rolling out over the Anniversary period, but you'll be able to update your game and get your hands on your first presents! This update will also include all of the 1.7.2 changes.

But what exactly can you expect? Let's find out!

First off, let's introduce our furry new friend! As many of you guessed from our World Lemur Day post last week, you'll now have a new animal to enjoy in your zoos - the Black and White Ruffed Lemur!

These critically endangered creatures inhabit the rainforests of Madagascar and typically live in female-led social structures. We love their markings, and can't wait to see the habitats you build to welcome them to your zoos! Perhaps you could make them an anniversary-themed exhibit?

On that note - if you're looking to build an anniversary feature, you'll need a way to celebrate, and what celebration is complete without cake? When the update becomes available later today, you'll be able to place Bernie's Bakes Shops in your zoos for all your tasty, baked-good needs! We're very excited to bring you a new and unique shop in Planet Zoo, so be sure to give Bernie's Bakes a warm welcome!

Lastly, we have a few limited-time celebrations taking part in-game too.

From the 5th-7th, there will be a special Community Challenge running in-game to release animals - but with added bonuses for doing so! For every 5 animals released, you'll get a boosted animal in return that has an 80%+ in any gene, and a 1/50 chance of being a colour morph. On top of this, every 20 animals released will award an avatar outfit! (Please note: this caps at ~600 animals per user, which is when you will have unlocked all released costumes etc)

But what about your guests? We couldn't forget them, after all, they're all such zoo enthusiasts just like you! For the duration of the Anniversary weekend, your zoo guests will have their very own balloons to celebrate! Wippi Abbonibo to all!

We hope you're as excited for Planet Zoo's 2nd Anniversary as we are! It's been a wonderful 2 years for us, and a large part of that has been thanks to you, our amazing community. Thank you for your continued support and appreciation for our game, and for the unending love and creativity that you bring into this space.

Animals
- We have adjusted the American Alligator's social group size based on feedback. Initial group sizes had been chosen based on the aggression potential shown by the species and some zoos only keeping solitary animals
  - New group sizes are as follows:
    - Mixed: 1 male, 5 females
    - Male bachelor groups: 6 males
    - Female bachelor groups: 6 females

Planet Zoo - Update 1.7 and North America Animal Pack Out Now!

Thanks for joining us on our road trip on the run-up to today, but we have reached our final destination - the North America Animal Pack and 1.7 Update are officially out now! Update your game to join the fun!

Update 1.7 is free for everybody who owns the base Planet Zoo game, and introduces several new and exciting features to enhance your gameplay experience! We've added, among other features, a couple of new Mapping Tools, giving you the ability to create custom heightmaps to alter your starting terrain, and also adding in a range of premade Terrain Type maps for players to use as a base - no more starting with a flat canvas (unless you want to!).

Joining the bears from Update 1.6, big cats are diving into the fun with new Deep Swimming abilities for the Jaguar, Bengal Tiger, and the Siberian Tiger. We've also adjusted the swimming depth requirements for individual species to make Deep Swimming habitats easier to manage and will allow deep-diving turns to remain smooth - these are in the patch notes below so check them out for more information.

Grab a friend and snag a seat because it's time for a show, with the new Animal Talk Seating Areas! These can be hooked up to your Animal Talk Educator podiums, and allow you to increase the viewing capacity of shows in a set viewing area. This will also help control the flow of guests in your park, helping prevent crowing around Educator points.

To further help with guest flow, we have also introduced new Path Barriers. These take the form of hard barriers that will block off paths and prevent guests from following that direction entirely, and kerbs, which will discourage guests from entering areas but will still allow them to use that route if there are no other options available.

Do you get frustrated having to manually adjust scenery objects during habitat builds to create a natural appearance? With the new Scenery Placement Randomisation Toggle, objects will alter their position between placement to give you another approach to building your park! But don't worry, if you prefer to have exact control over your placement, it can be toggled off.

The Planet Zoo: North America Animal Pack introduces 8 new animal friends for you to enjoy in your zoos! Be sure to give your warmest welcomes to 7 Habitat Animals - the industrious American Beaver, the towering and majestic Moose, the sleek and smart California Sea Lion, the shy and solitary Cougar, the enormous American Alligator, the highly-sociable Black-tailed Prairie Dog and the elusive yet adorable Arctic Fox. Joining them is a new Exhibit Animal: the American Bullfrog!

To help you take the best care of our new friends as possible, we've also added some new enrichment items. Dress up your habitats with items such as the Pronghorn Piñata, Skittle Feeder, Melon Feeder, Underwater Feeder, and the Beaver Pool - they're sure to make a splash!

Make sure to fill up your gas tanks and get those snacks ready, because we're going on a road trip! We'll be travelling from the tall forests of the American west coast, all the way to the swamps of Florida and beyond in our next Planet Zoo Pack!

Introducing, the Planet Zoo: North America Animal Pack, available to download and buy alongside free Update 1.7 on 4 October, 2021!

Which animals will we meet on our journey? Let's find out! In this Animal Pack you'll meet 7 mesmerising habitat animals: the industrious American Beaver, the towering and majestic Moose, the sleek and smart California Sea Lion, the shy and solitary Cougar, the enormous American Alligator, the highly-sociable Black-tailed Prairie Dog and the elusive yet adorable Arctic Fox.
