This week we've got an extensive Dev Brief that allows us to showcase some upcoming items in the U11 patch.
Then, as a couple of cherries on the cake we've got some great community events and media to showcase to you all. So without any delay, let’s begin.
VOIP Mic Check
We have been busy working on ways to improve the HLL VOIP experience. This new feature will allow players to do a self check after loading into a server to ensure the mic is working and the correct volume is set, without it being either too quiet, or loud and distorted.
This is one of a few different fixes we are looking at to improve the overall in-game comms, to make sure there is open and clear communication between all players. We are investigating seperate channel volumes too, which we will look to roll out in a future update. As with every aspect of HLL, we will continue to enhance and improve this crucial aspect of the game as quickly as possible.
Step one: Navigate to the Audio options menu and press the ‘check’ button in the ‘microphone check’ option.
Audio Menu Options showing the Microphone Check button
Step two: In this menu option a player can do self testing of their microphone input. Both mic and voice volumes can be adjusted to bring a better communication experience for them playing HLL.
Controls that allow a player to balance their audio
Sneak Peek Of The Week
We have made some great progress in various QOL items for the upcoming U11 update. One that we currently have in the pipeline is an deployable replacement system. A great ingame example of this is when an AT gun deployment position is overrun or no longer practical to use. (see image below)
Note: The AT Gun in background disappears
Below is a segment of some additional QOL changes coming in U11. Please note this isn’t the comprehensive list which will be provided with the full changelog closer to release. We are not too far away from the next PTE, more information on this to come.
Reformatted option menus
Improved commander ability descriptions
Hidden enemy role and unit info on scoreboard
Death in vehicle player feedback improvements
Synchronized resource generation
Sound effect for vehicle component destruction
Improvements to streamer mode
Friends and history tab in server browser
LoD Dithering

Time for some more community highlights from the below creators. There have been some great clips posted in the HLL discord this week. We couldn't showcase them all so we recommend you check the rest of them out on the Official HLL discord #hll-videos channel.
We highly recommend giving these a watch. Don't forget if you see or make a Video you like be sure to post it up in the Discord #hll-videos channel, on the Official HLL discord server.

It's that time of the week again so lets jump right in!
Audio Occlusion
We have begun adding Audio Occlusion to certain groups of sound effects. Occlusion is the effect on the sound when obstructed by objects in the game world, reducing volume and high frequencies. Currently we have applied occlusion to weapons, vehicles and certain character sounds and foley. At present, Buildings and Landscapes all obstruct sounds. As we refine this feature we will apply the settings to more sound effects and potentially more objects within the game world.
As we continue to develop the soundscape we try to revisit the sounds that we and the community feel are lacking behind. For this update we have chosen to re-design 6 of our current weapons. These include: M1 Garand, Browning M1919, M1903 Springfield, MP40, STG and MG42. We have also re-designed the reload sounds for the M1 Garand, MP40 and STG. This will bring these weapons in line with the recent re-designs for the Kar 98 and Thompson as well as the new addition of the soviet weaponry from the Eastern Front Update.
The MP40, STG and Browning M1919 have been changed to our single shot spawning method which plays one firing sound every time a projectile is spawned, previously we would use designed loops which meant that the loops were often cut off when attempting to single fire the weapon.
In addition, we have further represented vehicle damage through sound effects. We have 4 components for vehicle damage that have audio cues attached to health parameters. Tracks will clank, Engines will smoke, the turret will grind and the hull will creak. All this we hope will give additional feedback and immersion to players inside and outside of vehicles.
In this video you will hear the WIP re-design of the STG44, M1 Garand and MP40. We will continue to strive for a balance of realism and satisfaction with our audio design.
Guide for new players
Recently there have been a few great community made guides that detail the inner workings of playing Hell Let Loose. Don't forget to have a read through them and tune your knowledge with some parts of the game you may not even be aware of. We have 3 guides available for all users from PC to PS5 and Xbox players. Take a look below:
Last month we showcased the US Jungle Frogskin uniform. Today we would like to reveal the helmet to compliment it. This helmet design, during the war period were often hand painted by the soldiers themselves to match the uniforms camouflage make up. Take a look at the new US Jungle Frogskin M1 Painted Helmet.

Again we have been very busy this week with works on Update 11, we are steadily moving closer and closer towards our goals, and while we still have things to complete, all departments are working full steam ahead. We’re eager to unveil the curtain on some of the larger changes coming as they reach their polishing stages.
We are also very excited about the launch of Hell Let Loose on NextGen consoles which took place on the 5th. We have been very humbled by the results we have seen with such awesome community feedback. To stay up to date on all things console make sure to follow us on our socials and jump into the Discord.
Today's mention on the development front focuses on ‘Nameplate Occlusion’. ‘Nameplate Occlusion’ is when a name plate is hidden by an obstacle. Think of deploying out into the field at the start of a round and seeing all the names and icons of other players filling your screen as you roll out.
We are implementing an option that will allow players to only see the nameplates of players in their direct field of view. So if a friendly player is behind a building, fence or other similar object their name plate will be hidden to you if ‘Nameplate Occlusion’ has been selected in the game options.
As some more similar items to this enter the polishing stage in the coming weeks we will do our best to showcase the results here via our ‘Sneak Peek Of The Week”.
Sneak Peek Of The Week - US 82 Airborne ‘Pathfinder’ Uniform
We have been posting lately some great works by our character, environment and vehicle artists on upcoming items for Hell Let Loose. As these are a snapshot of 'some' of the items running through our pipeline we cannot confirm dates, how and when all of these will be implemented in the future.
We think it important to share with the community a small snapshot of some of the behind the scenes workings various departments are doing. As you all may appreciate,
As work progresses on updates for the game, content specialists are often in the spotlight showing off some of these amazing items they are creating for the Hell Let Loose theatres both existing and upcoming. Check out the latest uniform from our character artists below.

Progress on Update 11 has been coming along nicely with work well underway on some highly anticipated additions. While many of these additions are not quite in a state we feel ready to showcase, we do have some things to share this week.
But first we want to give an honourable mention to our Community Manager Jonno, who is sadly leaving his role with us as a HLL CM, after 6 years at Team17. We have had the pleasure to share this journey with him and we feel we speak for the community when we say that he’ll be deeply missed. Join us in thanking Jonno for his service to HLL and the entire community.
We are also very excited about launching on NextGen consoles on the 5th. To stay up to date on all things console make sure to follow us on our socials and jump into the Discord.
Optics
Over the course of development we have had several iterations of weapon optics in game. Trying to find a well rounded solution for HLL has proven to be challenging. We tried different techniques to solve certain issues like sniper scope jitter, artifacting or reticle misalignments in different stances. Essentially, as we solved one thing we broke another.
Our aim as always when we revisit something is to improve this experience as much as we can, this means we need to make sure that when you use a sniper scope or your binoculars, we make serious QOL improvements from the current implementation. We are working on a simplified version that we hope will solve as many issues as possible while maintaining a fun & satisfying experience. We will be testing this in the next PTE, where we appreciate your feedback on the improved system.
Sneak Peek - Menu Animations
While we continue to improve the in-game animation system with bug fixes and overall polish we’ve also updated the main menu and customisation screens, bringing a much needed touch of life by animating your soldier based on their equipped loadout. With multiple animations per loadout, gone are the days of a shell-shocked Mendez giving you the mile-long stare as you prepare for battle.
Please note that not all animations are final and may require some final polish.
HLLSeasonal Competition
It's not often an event gets a highlight as there are so many to choose from. But this week we wanted to give a shout out to the HLLSeasonal team whom have been tirelessly working on their HLL competition since last year. A quick summary, team list and information links are all below.
We wish them the best of luck in running this Seasonal and may the best team win!
“Hell let Loose provides something very few games can achieve : a shooter that opposes large teams of 50 people, working together in the common goal of defeating their enemies. This large-scale, combined arms combat creates a unique competitive experience, compared to other shooters which usually involve way less players. While not initially designed for competitive play, Hell let Loose proves itself to be a fascinating competitive experience.
16 teams are competing this season to claim the biggest prize in competitive Hell let loose : the Seasonal crown. Coming from all around the globe, those teams vary in levels of experience, skill and competitive history. However, they are all coming into this with the same desire : come first in Seasonal.” - HLLSeasonal.com
Some of the teams involved in this season are: CoRe, WTH, FIVE, 116, KRT/OC, 82AD/DC, TC, UFr, ESPT/NPA, ARC/LpF, PBS, FLL, CSP, CNUT, TBGC, WAR
Community Content Creators As mentioned in last week's Dev Brief we wanted to expand a little with highlighting some of the great community content that is out there. Here is an ominous sight of an incoming Katyusha strike screencapped by hll.ro | JaJe and posted in our HLL discord.

Soon we intend to give an insight into some of the larger features as we track towards U11, which we will also be testing in future U11 PTEs. Some players have done well with their ability to guess what these may be, but as for others, only time will tell!
But for now it's time to wrap up today's Dev Brief. See you all on the frontline!
It has been a very busy few weeks culminating in the much awaited release of the latest patch. P16 was focused strongly on ‘optimisation’ and we have been very humbled by the community receiving it so well.
The good news here is that work is still ongoing regarding optimisation, and we continue to look at ways to improve the overall performance of HLL. We are pleased to be moving in the right direction with each and every update we make, and we strive to make the Hell Let Loose experience even better in the future.
Patch 16 came with a number of anticipated QOL changes highlighted by the Community and we will be continuing this pattern to improve the core experience of HLL as updates and patches are released.
Meanwhile please continue to use the Discord feedback channels as a way to share issues and bugs you may experience, the team look at this on a daily basis, so thanks to those who give concise feedback to help us improve the game for the better.
As we continue development and work hard on the next update (Update 11) we will be sharing more about what features and content is to be expected, on top of the QOL, optimisation and bug fixes. Additionally when to expect the first U11 PTE.
Sneak Peek Of The Week
As progress continues on U11, we decided it would be a good time to go back and revisit some of the missing modes from existing maps that you have grown to enjoy. When U11 arrives, players will be found fighting the front lines across a number of new map modes featuring new and improved lighting effects that drastically affect the tone and mood of the battle. For Foy in particular we’ve taken inspiration from Band of Brothers!

Patch 16 Changelog After a lot of work on many fronts we are pleased to announce the release of Patch 16 our long awaited ‘Optimization’ patch. We are very excited for how this patch will perform especially on the eastern front. As we have mentioned previously a lot of work and thought has gone into this update to improve upon many aspects of the Hell Let Loose experience. Below you can see a small list of some noticeable items with the full (8 page) changelog in the link at the end of the list.
- Extensive optimization pass on Stalingrad - Switched from a fixed streaming pool size to being based on a % of available VRAM across all maps - Continuous optimization pass on a large number of in-game assets (Far too many to list) - Reduced frame stutter occurring in Kursk and Carentan caused by PhysX - Holding [F] while bleeding will immediately equip a bandage and begin bandaging - Added a “Streamer Mode” which hides player name, garrison locations and server information from all HUD elements - FPS is now capped to 60 in the Main Menu to prevent 100% GPU usage - Improved server stability - A vehicle's component health is now displayed to the player repairing the vehicle - During overtime if the Attackers capturing progress reaches 0% the match will now end. - Critical/Downed players no longer block spawns. - Vehicle components now repair in the following order: Engine > Tracks > Turret > Hull - Improved the reliability of VOIP connection and the ability to reconnect using the reconnect feature

This week comes bearing great news as we announce the Patch 16 release, extended playtime for PS5 Beta participants and a sneak peek at an upcoming addition to the German armour lineup.
Patch 16 Inbound! Work is nearing an end as we’re in the final stages of internal testing for Patch 16 which brings a number of QOL changes and large improvements to optimization for both Stalingrad and game-wide experiences. We are very happy with the progress and think you will all find it well worth the wait when it deploys next week on Tuesday the 14th!
The overall optimization process has been quite involved and we decided that a slight extension of coding and testing was warranted to ensure the best performance possible. During this period we were also able to identify additional in-game QOL issues that while we had HLL on the workbench we also looked to address.
With Patch 16 being wrapped up, production towards Update 11 is in full force with the team hard at work on a number of highly anticipated additions that we can’t wait to get into the hands of the players. Keep watching this space as we’ll be covering some of these additions in future Dev Briefs but for now, please feel free to lay your eyes upon this week’s sneak peek of what’s to come.
Sneak Peek Of The Week Have to say we think this week's Sneak Peek deserves pole position in today's brief. We'll let the pictures do the talking here.

PS5 Closed Beta Continues After the initial promising start the PS5 beta is still live. Due to the nature of the server fixes that are being deployed it has been decided to leave the beta running to allow us a greater ability to troubleshoot and remedy them.
That aside, the gameplay itself has been received really well by players and we are very optimistic that it will be a smooth transition to console to help widen the audience of Hell Let Loose to those that prefer the console platform. We urge you to continue helping on the testing front and also look at picking up the game on launch.
A lot of people have been asking about Xbox and yes, we can confirm that a release on this platform is coming, you won't be left out. Due to in-house limitations however we have only been able to run this Beta test for the client on the Playstation platform at the moment.

After a few weeks of rigorous PTE testing with a heavy focus on performance and optimisation we want to thank the community for your patience, support and feedback during this time.
We are currently doing our sign-off of our latest build, for the patch to be dropped within the next two weeks. Along with other bug fixing, we have seen some very promising performance increases across the board, but especially in Stalingrad where there is potential for more improvements.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all of the community that took the time to join in the PTE environment and help us test. We are hopeful that you will all see the fruits of these efforts when the patch drops.
You may also have noticed that the Developer Briefings have been a little bit shorter the last few weeks, as we have been very busy working on Improvements for the upcoming patch. Moving forward we are excited to show and discuss in more detail some great new features and content for Hell Let Loose.
Touring Hell Let Loose - Over The Real Life settings
Although a lot of us lately have been confined to our homes or with very limited travel. It seems community members [1AD] -=Medusa=- NL and Xymox have managed to do some touring of the eastern front.
Their most recent creation of the ‘HLL Stalingrad Tour’ also incorporates period specific aerial photography to again enhance the similarities between the game environments and reality itself. Take a look at these well made videos of some comparisons to the theatres depicted in Hell Let Loose and how they look in reality.

It has been a promising start to the PS5 Closed Beta testing this week. We are aware of the server issues and have prioritised major efforts on all fronts to rectify.
That aside, the gameplay feedback has been very positive from all those involved. Many people were very pleasantly surprised with Hell Let Loose on console and a lot have promised to continue helping on the testing front and also look at picking up the game on launch.
We are very humbled by such positive feedback and server issues aside, we will continue to look forward to making both the PC and Console products as best as they can be. A lot of people have been asking about Xbox and yes, we can confirm that a release on this platform is coming, you won't be left out. Due to inhouse limitations however we have only been able to Beta test the client on the Playstation platform at the moment.
Sneak Peek: RA Cape Plash-Palatka - Poncho
The Soviet Plash-Palatka was a common means for all on the eastern front to stay dry during times of inclement weather during WW2. A simple design made from canvas, it could be utilised as a poncho, ground cover or even a small tent.
In 1791 the first variant of these actually came into use. Then later on they were modified in 1894 and finally in 1936 they came up with a finalized product. The Plash-Palatka has not really changed ever since. In WW2 the only change that was made to it was that in 1942 the colour scheme was in some cases altered to make them in camouflage.

PTE will be starting at approximately 2pm BST 26th August.
This will be one of, if not the last PTE for the upcoming patch. So it's super important we try to fill the server as soon as the PTE goes live to get to the highest player count we can.
Please if you are available jump in with us as soon as the server is up!
We have made some major progress in regards to optimisation and would like to kindly ask the community to again jump into the PTE.
ICYMI - The progress has been very promising and those who participated in previous PTE’s recently would have noticed decent improvements in performance. We would like to expand on this optimization work before we deploy it live so we can ensure everyone gets the best experience in the game. If you can pass the message on to those who may not keep an eye on the day to day communications, we would really appreciate it.
For this PTE we have adjusted the map rotation to include a wider range of the eastern front maps and included some more familiar western front maps.
A small glimpse at some noteworthy changes coming in P16:
Markers now display a timer on the Tactical Map representing their lifetime Players can now equip and begin bandaging with a single hold of the [F] key Aligning the compass to the orientation of the Tactical Map Displaying component HP to the repairer of a vehicle Improved Tanking experience with finer controls for the Gunner and more reliable shell collision Improved reliability of VOIP connections Over 400 bug fixes including a number of fixes that had been on our hit list since the early days

Sneak Peek Of The Week
Not all weapons were long range during the battles of WW2, aside from sub machine guns and hand held weapons, the trench gun was a popular feature for close quarters. Nothing beats a bit of ‘up close and personal’ during combat so we thought we would share an upcoming weapon that will help those who love fighting shoulder to shoulder with the enemy. Lots more interesting items like this will be coming in Update 11 so keep an eye out for more information on this and other items throughout our future developer briefings.
