Bless Online - Will
Greetings!

As Bless Online’s Steam EA release is fast approaching, we know that many of you are curious about the 5 classes available in the game. In an effort to help you familiarize yourself with the different class combat styles, we have prepared a little preview! In addition to specific combat-related details on each class, we are also sharing class gameplay introduction videos so that you can see each class in action.

Also, please note that names for skills, effects, resources, and stances may not be finalized.

  • Guardian
    https://youtu.be/v0LWGhX9v24
(This preview video was taken in a development environment and therefore does not reflect the final version)

Guardians in Bless are known to be brilliant strategic commanders who protect both their allies and the front lines. How do they do this you ask? Well, they need to be brave. Every time a guardian uses a combo, they gain bravery (a resource like mana). Once a guardian’s bravery meter is full, players can change their stance to activate the [Enhance] effect. When [Enhance] is activated, a guardian receives additional effects to help them eliminate their enemies and climb to victory.

However being a guardian requires skill specifically, the skill to use the [Enhance] effects before they wear off, as failing to do so results in debuffs being applied. As such, how well a player utilizes [Enhance] is key to their guardian’s success in combat. On the other hand, if you ever find yourself against a guardian in battle, make sure to prevent them from receiving any additional benefits from [Enhance]!

  • Berserker
    https://youtu.be/BgydWcaw9aQ
(This preview video was taken in a development environment and therefore does not reflect the final version)

The Berserker has a couple of ways to approach a fight. Depending on what stance they are in, the effect [Blood Leech] or the effect [Bleed] will be activated.

[Blood Leech] is, as its name hints, a defense-focused effect that reduces the damage received by recovering a portion of health from the total inflicted damage. [Bleed], on the other hand, is a high risk/high reward effect that consumes a set amount of health per use to increase the amount of damage inflicted on the enemy.

When we were redesigning the berserker class, one of our goals was to make it so players could take any stance depending on their preference or situation. In other words, we wanted to make the berserker a class that could go with any playstyle. As a result, we developed 3 concepts for the class: Deadly, Defensive, and Balanced. In addition, we planned to make it so berserkers who take the Defensive concept path could become sub-tankers if they so choose.

  • Ranger
    https://youtu.be/tZEdD2_CeH4
(This preview video was taken in a development environment and therefore does not reflect the final version)

Rangers are quietly and thoroughly lethal. Quite literally, no one will see them coming. However, after they draw back their bowstring that is focused with ever increasing intensity on their target, the ranger will announce their presence with a swift arrow. With the ranger class, it is possible to deal great damage or acquire beneficial effects in combat as you increase your prudence resource and minimize your movement. The way to use the prudence resource mostly lies in stance switches, and making this mechanic work well in combat was the main goal for the ranger’s redesign process.

  • Paladin
    https://youtu.be/2GF7tDv07sw
(This preview video was taken in a development environment and therefore does not reflect the final version)

When all hope seems lost, fear not! The paladin is here! The third skill of a combo in each of the paladin’s stances is a buff, and by changing the buff used, paladins can function either as a damage dealer or a healer.
Although the paladin has fewer combo types than other classes, it requires more tactical skill as choosing the right combo for the situation is extremely important. Let's say that your party is in dire need of your healing powers, but you barely have any mana left. Do you go ahead and increase your healing powers despite low mana levels? Or do you activate your mana recharging skills instead? To master the paladin class you need to be able to quickly understand the combat situation as well as be proficient in using combos.

  • Mage
    https://youtu.be/Jg6ETFi1IgI
(This preview video was taken in a development environment and therefore does not reflect the final version)

With boom and a bang, the mage has the ability to leave a dramatically powerful impression on their enemies with masterful control of the elements. Mages use stance skills to acquire fire, ice, and air elements and can acquire bonus effects by consuming elements through using certain skills. These additional effects differ per stance and per the element of the skill, they are being applied to. To add an extra layer of depth to the mage class, the mage was redesigned so that players must carefully consider the situation when using the obtained additional effects.

As demonstrated here, each class has its own unique combat style, and different techniques are required to fully utilize each class’s full potential. Although it may seem a little challenging at first, it is an enjoyable combat system with enough flexibility and variety to suit each player’s playstyle. As it can be hard to decide right away on which class is the most suitable for you, be sure to give each class a try once the game is out!

Thank you,
The Bless Team

Hello, everyone!

It’s already been a month since we first announced the Emissary program!
A lot of people have been showing their interest in the program and asking us a lot of questions about it, so we thought we’d compile a list of the most frequently asked questions and give some additional updates about the program itself.

We are planning to announce the list of selected Emissary applicants on May 9th!
As we’ve been receiving a lot of applications, we are planning to accept Emissary applications until May 2nd. After 10:00 PM PDT that day, you will no longer be able to submit your application. So if you haven’t applied yet, please make sure to apply by then!

Bless Online - Will
Greetings!

When you begin your adventure in Bless Online you will have to choose to join either Hieron or Union. As these two warring factions are important aspects of the game, we decided to share with you today some of the lore behind them.

What is the reason for Hieron and Union’s conflict?

Hieron and Union’s conflict is not simply two factions fighting over territory or rights. It is an unavoidable clash between two major powers who have fundamentally different world views and values. Their conflict stems from their various causes, morals, historical grudges, and political aims which have together brought them into this grand war.

What is Hieron?

Hieron refers the faction of the northern Bless continent and the Habicht led Holy Empire. The word Hieron means “Holy Alliance,” and the word itself originated from the Elven word “Hiera.”

After driving out the marauding barbarian tribes and ending the Dark Ages that had lasted for far too long, the human Habicht Empire recovered the Ancient Lumen territory, liberated city-states such as Spezia (Union’s capital), and took over leadership of the northern alliance. For hundreds of years after, not only did the Habicht flourish and hold control over half of the continent’s land, but they also functioned as protectors, guarding the civilized world from the barbarian tribes’ recurring invasions.

Races of the Hieron faction are generally more conservative than those of the Union faction. They believe that the world would be a better place if order was established and maintained with the proper authority. Because of this view, they think that the current world is corrupt and lacks the values once prized by great heroes of the past.

In order to maintain the peace and stability of the continent, races of the Hieron faction are all actively cooperating with the Habicht Empire. The Holy Hieron Empire’s end goal is to unify all of the continent’s civilized races and establish world order.

Those of you who choose to join the Hieron faction will experience a series of events that cause you to think about what really makes a true emperor - all while you work towards constructing a great empire.

What is Union?

The Union faction is an alliance established by the Amistad, the southern Bless continent’s human race. The Amistad’s ancient Lumen Empire (the first human empire of the Bless world) was so prosperous that it once rivaled that of the current Habicht Empire. However, the Lumen Empire broke up into city-states after it collapsed as a result of a magical catastrophe. The Amistad then survived as scattered-city states until the Hieron Empire liberated them. Under the protection of the Habicht Empire, city-states such as Spezia (Union’s capital) quickly regained their past prosperity. However, the city-states are now hoping to return to their former glory and power.

Unlike the races of the Hieron faction, races of the Union faction are more progressive and believe that current problems of the world are due to the ever unchanging status system and hierarchical social structure. As a result, they are always searching for new ideas and values as they believe that fundamental change is vital.

In the past, races of the southern continent were often either under Hieron’s rule or living as scattered tribes. Even now, they cannot forget the feelings of hostility towards Hieron, the desire for independence, and the humiliation of having their territory taken away from them.

The Amistad Federation began their war for independence when they declared their refusal to pay tribute to the Hieron Empire. Through consecutive victories they were able to rally the other races of the southern continent, resulting in the formation of the Union Alliance.

The Amistad, Aqua Elves, Pantera, and Mascu are all members of the Union Alliance, and they aim to challenge the Hieron Empire for supremacy in the new age.

As you see, not only do they both possess different values, but their history of conflict and enmity makes it hard for them to reconcile.

We hope this helped you gain a better understanding of the factions in Bless!

Thank you!

Bless Online - Grace
Greetings!

As we march towards the May release of Bless Online on Steam, many of you asked how the Steam version of Bless Online is going to be different from its past or currently available releases. We definitely understand where the questions are coming from. We have not shared as much as we should have in explaining how the game will be different from what you see in Korea or Japan servers. That’s why we decided to focus this blog on describing some of the key changes we are bringing to the Steam release.

While we’ve been developing Bless Online for a long time, our focus on making Bless Online a great game has never wavered. We also have an amazing and active community that has not given up on us but continue to support us and give constructive feedback. One of the primary goals for the Steam release is to make sure to address some of the key concerns that have been repeatedly raised by the community. Now, let’s explore what some of those changes are.

Combat System Restructuring
Let’s change everything we can!
We spent the most effort in revamping the combat system! We’ve re-examined almost every class’ skills and restructured their composition and effects.

Rhythmic Combat
  • Players need to pick two stance skills out of six, as well as four general skills that will go well with their class. Using these skills in combos during combat will lead to extra effects (1. Select a stance, 2. Use your starting skill 3. Use a skill combo).

  • In combat, there is more action and it has gotten more difficult due to the new dynamic combo system. Depending on how good a player is at making combos, they can bring out the full potential of their class.

(The screenshot above was taken during the development process and therefore is not localized nor reflective of the final product.)

Restructuring Growth Mechanics
  • We have rebuilt the mechanics behind both skill acquisition and skill leveling. In the Steam version, in addition to advancing your equipment, learning and leveling up skills are main parts of growing your character.

  • There is a variety of ways to obtain the gems that are used to level skills. As we aim to avoid P2W, the amount of money you spend on the game will not affect the amount of gems you can get.

(The screenshot above was taken during the development process and therefore is not localized nor reflective of the final product.)

Party Buffs
Join a party for the full Bless experience!
  • We believe that the best way to enjoy any MMORPG is by playing with others. As an incentive for players to play the game with a variety of people, we have decided to introduce party benefits!

  • Depending on the number of members, classes, and races of the party members, the party leader can choose one combat effect and one lifestyle (non-combat) effect from a selection to be applied to party members!

  • With this feature we hope that not only those who enjoy combat, but also those who prefer the lifestyle (non-combat) aspects of MMORPGs can enjoy playing with other players!

(The screenshots above were taken during the development process and therefore are not localized nor reflective of the final product.)

User Friendly Monetization
Everyone will love our in-game shops!
Along with having no P2W in the Steam version, Bless Online’s monetization system will be user friendly.
  • Content token shop: We have designed it so that players can use content tokens (special in-game currency earned by just playing the game) to purchase functional items.

  • Lumena shop: Players can use Lumena (in-game currency purchased using real money) to buy a variety of convenience and cosmetic items.

(The screenshot above was taken during the development process and therefore is not localized nor reflective of the final product.)

  • Also, with the addition of the Lumena Exchange Center (name is WIP), players will be able to convert their content tokens into Lumena. This feature will allow even players who only buy the game (and nothing more!) the ability to use the Lumena shop to purchase convenience and cosmetic items.

The Upgraded Bless Experience
A better paced path for Bless!

Tutorial Zone
  • Many new players reported that they did not have the best experience playing Bless due to the game being designed with experienced MMORPG players in mind.

  • In the Steam version, there will be a new area specifically for new players to practice basic skills. Those who are experienced MMORPG players or who already know the basics can skip this, but even if you skip or complete the tutorial, you can always go back to it.

Guide Quests
  • These quests will teach you things the tutorial does not.
  • They are much easier to understand than the pre-existing introductory quests.

Improved Content Pacing
  • In Bless, players can take part in most activities even if they are only level 1. As a result, some new users reported difficulty in knowing where they are supposed to start.
  • To address this, we have improved the pacing at which users are exposed to new content so that they can adjust to Bless in stages instead of being overwhelmed right from the beginning.

Upgraded Monsters
  • In Bless, players level up through PvE combat and by experiencing a variety of events. As much of the PvE combat was relatively easy and repetitive, most players were quickly bored.
  • In order to solve this problem, we have updated the mobs with special skills. We are also currently developing more features that will make leveling up an exciting adventure!

We are hopeful that these changes will allow our players to further enjoy Bless Online and have an exceptional overall experience. If you are interested in testing these key features for yourself, make sure you don’t miss Bless Online’s early access in May!

Thank you,
The Bless Team

Bless Online - Grace
Hello, everyone!

Today we will be sharing the story behind how we built the living world of Bless Online - specifically the monsters, terrain and buildings.

We wanted to make Bless Online an authentic and unique fantasy world, rather than take an existing legend or myth and simply apply it to Bless. We aimed to make something new but still stay true to the essence of fantasy worlds.

This philosophy guided our choices in deciding how to create the races, cities and other aspects of Bless. For example, when creating the dragons, we did a lot of research about the appearance of dragons in myths and legends before deciding that a “classic” dragon type was the most suitable for the Bless fantasy world. In short, we wanted our audience to see a Bless dragon and say “Yes, that’s exactly what a dragon is,” not “It looks like a dragon.” We wanted to capture the essence of what a dragon is in our designs!

The Probable World of Bless

While creating the world of Bless Online, the most important element was ‘probability.’
By probability, we mean “is this likely to actually happen this way? Is this the best way for it to be set up?”

For an example, let us look at the character type “Lizard Person.” it would be very disappointing if a character type as interesting as a “Lizard Person” didn’t appear in Bless. We want this kind of character. However, there is no definite idea of what a lizard person actually looks like. Since we have no real-life reference, we have to think about what a lizard person might look like. What if lizard people evolved into a human-like form? What would it look like? What things might change physically as a lizard evolves towards being bipedal? By approaching the lizard people’s design with thought-provoking questions like these, we were able to add interesting creative elements to Bless.

“If lizards evolved, would they look like this?”

“Would lizard people be living in this kind of environment?”

Rather than reducing the lizard people to “just another monster,” Bless shows the lizard people as an intelligent race with the ability to walk on two feet and use weapons. We designed for them a whole society and culture, in addition to a completely new environment which they will live in.

What about the Naga?

The Naga is a unique race that possesses several arms and a snake-like lower body. They’re a fairly popular race in fantasy, but we wanted to make them our own; aimed to create a Naga race unique to Bless Online to communicate the stories that we want to share.

We wanted to create a setting in which the Naga race made sense and fit in. Towards this goal we created the area of Gnollando Barrens, and designed a Naga society and culture filled with history and tradition. We designed their appearance and habitat to match this same idea of the Naga race.

We endeavored to fully realize all aspects of each Bless creature’s culture through their appearance, weapons, armor, and architectural style.

You may be wondering whether all of Bless Online’s hundreds of monsters were this meticulously designed. To that the answer is yes! All intelligent creatures were created with consideration towards their culture and society. That being said, not all monsters within the game are intelligent (wild animals such as mice and rabbits are not, for example).

Bringing authenticity to an image

Although Bless has beautiful graphics, we think that the visual aspects of the game are something of importance only when paired with the background story of the Bless world.

Rather than being just “a game with beautiful graphics,” Bless Online is a game where “the various aspects that make up its world are designed in considerable detail.”

For the creation of a completely immersive world, there were even instances where we gave up on more beautiful or more impressive visuals for the sake of believability. For the visual completion of the game we did lots of background research and even conducted field surveys in order to study specific architectural styles!

Most of you who have been following Bless for a long time are probably most familiar with Spezia and Hieracon. The design of Spezia, the city of water, was inspired by Italy’s Venice, while Hieracon was based on French gothic architecture.

Wyvern Valley (located in the middle of the Bless continent), a place where Wyverns should be able to travel freely while gliding around, was an area designed with the Grand Canyon in mind.

Why is Bless so focused on Probability?

We emphasize probability and believability because we believe that the in-depth aspects of Bless Online would become the basis for why our players would be able to immerse themselves into the game and fully enjoy it.

Including both the natural environment (climate and vegetation) and the social environment (history and culture), we aimed to think closely about even the smallest details in Bless Online. Our biggest emphasis was placed on the possibility that those aspects could come together in the creation of a world.

For us, what mattered most wasn’t whether it “looked nice enough”, but instead “does this make sense in the world?”

As we’ve explained, Bless Online is a game that focuses on the often hidden, deep details of the world. Because of that, we believe that Bless is a more complex and interesting world, and players will be able to have a more immersive experience in it.

Hopefully you had as much fun reading about the story behind the world of Bless as we did making it!

Cheers,
The Bless Team
