Bless Online - Grace
Greetings!

As we march towards the May release of Bless Online on Steam, many of you asked how the Steam version of Bless Online is going to be different from its past or currently available releases. We definitely understand where the questions are coming from. We have not shared as much as we should have in explaining how the game will be different from what you see in Korea or Japan servers. That’s why we decided to focus this blog on describing some of the key changes we are bringing to the Steam release.

While we’ve been developing Bless Online for a long time, our focus on making Bless Online a great game has never wavered. We also have an amazing and active community that has not given up on us but continue to support us and give constructive feedback. One of the primary goals for the Steam release is to make sure to address some of the key concerns that have been repeatedly raised by the community. Now, let’s explore what some of those changes are.

Combat System Restructuring
Let’s change everything we can!
We spent the most effort in revamping the combat system! We’ve re-examined almost every class’ skills and restructured their composition and effects.

Rhythmic Combat
  • Players need to pick two stance skills out of six, as well as four general skills that will go well with their class. Using these skills in combos during combat will lead to extra effects (1. Select a stance, 2. Use your starting skill 3. Use a skill combo).

  • In combat, there is more action and it has gotten more difficult due to the new dynamic combo system. Depending on how good a player is at making combos, they can bring out the full potential of their class.

(The screenshot above was taken during the development process and therefore is not localized nor reflective of the final product.)

Restructuring Growth Mechanics
  • We have rebuilt the mechanics behind both skill acquisition and skill leveling. In the Steam version, in addition to advancing your equipment, learning and leveling up skills are main parts of growing your character.

  • There is a variety of ways to obtain the gems that are used to level skills. As we aim to avoid P2W, the amount of money you spend on the game will not affect the amount of gems you can get.

(The screenshot above was taken during the development process and therefore is not localized nor reflective of the final product.)

Party Buffs
Join a party for the full Bless experience!
  • We believe that the best way to enjoy any MMORPG is by playing with others. As an incentive for players to play the game with a variety of people, we have decided to introduce party benefits!

  • Depending on the number of members, classes, and races of the party members, the party leader can choose one combat effect and one lifestyle (non-combat) effect from a selection to be applied to party members!

  • With this feature we hope that not only those who enjoy combat, but also those who prefer the lifestyle (non-combat) aspects of MMORPGs can enjoy playing with other players!

(The screenshots above were taken during the development process and therefore are not localized nor reflective of the final product.)

User Friendly Monetization
Everyone will love our in-game shops!
Along with having no P2W in the Steam version, Bless Online’s monetization system will be user friendly.
  • Content token shop: We have designed it so that players can use content tokens (special in-game currency earned by just playing the game) to purchase functional items.

  • Lumena shop: Players can use Lumena (in-game currency purchased using real money) to buy a variety of convenience and cosmetic items.

(The screenshot above was taken during the development process and therefore is not localized nor reflective of the final product.)

  • Also, with the addition of the Lumena Exchange Center (name is WIP), players will be able to convert their content tokens into Lumena. This feature will allow even players who only buy the game (and nothing more!) the ability to use the Lumena shop to purchase convenience and cosmetic items.

The Upgraded Bless Experience
A better paced path for Bless!

Tutorial Zone
  • Many new players reported that they did not have the best experience playing Bless due to the game being designed with experienced MMORPG players in mind.

  • In the Steam version, there will be a new area specifically for new players to practice basic skills. Those who are experienced MMORPG players or who already know the basics can skip this, but even if you skip or complete the tutorial, you can always go back to it.

Guide Quests
  • These quests will teach you things the tutorial does not.
  • They are much easier to understand than the pre-existing introductory quests.

Improved Content Pacing
  • In Bless, players can take part in most activities even if they are only level 1. As a result, some new users reported difficulty in knowing where they are supposed to start.
  • To address this, we have improved the pacing at which users are exposed to new content so that they can adjust to Bless in stages instead of being overwhelmed right from the beginning.

Upgraded Monsters
  • In Bless, players level up through PvE combat and by experiencing a variety of events. As much of the PvE combat was relatively easy and repetitive, most players were quickly bored.
  • In order to solve this problem, we have updated the mobs with special skills. We are also currently developing more features that will make leveling up an exciting adventure!

We are hopeful that these changes will allow our players to further enjoy Bless Online and have an exceptional overall experience. If you are interested in testing these key features for yourself, make sure you don’t miss Bless Online’s early access in May!

Thank you,
The Bless Team
Bless Online - Will
Hello everyone!

Now that you know Early Access for Bless Online will be coming this May(!!), the next question on your mind is probably, “how do I keep myself healthy and nourished during that time??” We know that balancing gaming with consuming proper nutrients can be a tough challenge. In light of this, we would like to introduce to you some new products: a line of Bless snacks!

  • Bless-O’s
  • Perfect for both Early Access and early morning gaming, Bless-O’s are not only jam packed with fiber and 7 essential vitamins and minerals, but also have 18 grams of sugar per serving to keep you energized and focused on leveling all day long!

  • Pantera Puffs
  • For times when a party member causes your whole group to wipe, or when you fail to tame a pet for the third time in a row, Pantera Puffs are there! The satisfying and cheesy crunch of each puff will help you channel your frustration into supplying your body with much needed carbs and protein!
We hope you will look forward to enjoying these delicious Bless snacks ;)

Bless Online - Grace
Hello, everyone!

Today we will be sharing the story behind how we built the living world of Bless Online - specifically the monsters, terrain and buildings.

We wanted to make Bless Online an authentic and unique fantasy world, rather than take an existing legend or myth and simply apply it to Bless. We aimed to make something new but still stay true to the essence of fantasy worlds.

This philosophy guided our choices in deciding how to create the races, cities and other aspects of Bless. For example, when creating the dragons, we did a lot of research about the appearance of dragons in myths and legends before deciding that a “classic” dragon type was the most suitable for the Bless fantasy world. In short, we wanted our audience to see a Bless dragon and say “Yes, that’s exactly what a dragon is,” not “It looks like a dragon.” We wanted to capture the essence of what a dragon is in our designs!

The Probable World of Bless

While creating the world of Bless Online, the most important element was ‘probability.’
By probability, we mean “is this likely to actually happen this way? Is this the best way for it to be set up?”

For an example, let us look at the character type “Lizard Person.” it would be very disappointing if a character type as interesting as a “Lizard Person” didn’t appear in Bless. We want this kind of character. However, there is no definite idea of what a lizard person actually looks like. Since we have no real-life reference, we have to think about what a lizard person might look like. What if lizard people evolved into a human-like form? What would it look like? What things might change physically as a lizard evolves towards being bipedal? By approaching the lizard people’s design with thought-provoking questions like these, we were able to add interesting creative elements to Bless.

“If lizards evolved, would they look like this?”

“Would lizard people be living in this kind of environment?”

Rather than reducing the lizard people to “just another monster,” Bless shows the lizard people as an intelligent race with the ability to walk on two feet and use weapons. We designed for them a whole society and culture, in addition to a completely new environment which they will live in.

What about the Naga?

The Naga is a unique race that possesses several arms and a snake-like lower body. They’re a fairly popular race in fantasy, but we wanted to make them our own; aimed to create a Naga race unique to Bless Online to communicate the stories that we want to share.

We wanted to create a setting in which the Naga race made sense and fit in. Towards this goal we created the area of Gnollando Barrens, and designed a Naga society and culture filled with history and tradition. We designed their appearance and habitat to match this same idea of the Naga race.

We endeavored to fully realize all aspects of each Bless creature’s culture through their appearance, weapons, armor, and architectural style.

You may be wondering whether all of Bless Online’s hundreds of monsters were this meticulously designed. To that the answer is yes! All intelligent creatures were created with consideration towards their culture and society. That being said, not all monsters within the game are intelligent (wild animals such as mice and rabbits are not, for example).

Bringing authenticity to an image

Although Bless has beautiful graphics, we think that the visual aspects of the game are something of importance only when paired with the background story of the Bless world.

Rather than being just “a game with beautiful graphics,” Bless Online is a game where “the various aspects that make up its world are designed in considerable detail.”

For the creation of a completely immersive world, there were even instances where we gave up on more beautiful or more impressive visuals for the sake of believability. For the visual completion of the game we did lots of background research and even conducted field surveys in order to study specific architectural styles!

Most of you who have been following Bless for a long time are probably most familiar with Spezia and Hieracon. The design of Spezia, the city of water, was inspired by Italy’s Venice, while Hieracon was based on French gothic architecture.

Wyvern Valley (located in the middle of the Bless continent), a place where Wyverns should be able to travel freely while gliding around, was an area designed with the Grand Canyon in mind.

Why is Bless so focused on Probability?

We emphasize probability and believability because we believe that the in-depth aspects of Bless Online would become the basis for why our players would be able to immerse themselves into the game and fully enjoy it.

Including both the natural environment (climate and vegetation) and the social environment (history and culture), we aimed to think closely about even the smallest details in Bless Online. Our biggest emphasis was placed on the possibility that those aspects could come together in the creation of a world.

For us, what mattered most wasn’t whether it “looked nice enough”, but instead “does this make sense in the world?”

As we’ve explained, Bless Online is a game that focuses on the often hidden, deep details of the world. Because of that, we believe that Bless is a more complex and interesting world, and players will be able to have a more immersive experience in it.

Hopefully you had as much fun reading about the story behind the world of Bless as we did making it!

Cheers,
The Bless Team

Bless Online - Ginny
Greetings!

Since we just released a Dev Talk last week, today we will be continuing with the 2nd part of “Traveling through Bless Online with Original Paintings” where we will introduce more wonderful places in Bless Online.

Following our previous post on Unión and Hieron territories, today we will be introducing the impressive and beautiful capital cities of Spezia (Unión) and Hieracon (Hieron). In addition, we will also be showing you several important areas that players will be exploring within the game.

Unión

Spezia – the beautiful city of water
Unión’s capital, Spezia, is the biggest city in the southern continent.
Due to its invaluable role in leading the Unión Alliance against the Habicht Empire, Spezia is still the heart of the UNIóN Alliance today. Spezia is also sometimes referred to as “the city of water” because it was built over a lake and gondolas are used as transportation to nearby areas.

Terny – the city of death
Often called “a city frozen in time”, Terny is full of ancient but well-preserved ruins and remnants. However, for reasons unknown, a thick fog now blocks the sun from this place and the undead have begun appearing, rendering Terny a place devoid of life.

The Burning Desert – where danger and beauty co-exist
The Burning Desert is a desert of eternal history with a yearly average temperature above 18°C.
You can explore many interesting areas in the Burning Desert including Sandworm Nest, a haven for dying animals; the giant, maze-like Hobgoblin’s Citadel; and the Basilisk Nest (shown in the picture).

Besides the above three locations, there are many other interesting but dangerous areas.

Hieron

Hieracon – the Empire’s capital that was once a fortress city for unifying the northern continent
Hieracon was originally a fortified city built for dealing with uncivilized races such as the orcs and goblins. However, as the Habichts became an empire, Hieracon was made the capital city.

Through multiple expansions Hieracon came to gradually possess the dignity of an empire’s capital. Despite this, you can still find traces of a fortress city’s crudeness in its high walls and steep slopes.

Beolan Valley – a gloomy and mountainous place
In the dreary and rugged Beolan Valley, the mood can change depending on the area.

Horse Mane Grassland – a town of knights and herdsmen
Horse Mane Grassland is a place of wide, stretching flatlands and grasslands. As it is a place famous for its horses, most of its residents work in areas related to horse rearing.

We hope that you will all explore and experience these areas directly within the game!

Bless Online - Will
Greetings!

As a part of our journey to the Bless Steam launch, we would like to take a moment through this dev blog to introduce some key members of the Bless Team. These are folks that will be driving the development and the launch of Bless Steam version so we felt that our community ought to get to know them better.

Sungjin Ko (Executive Producer)
Sungjin Ko is our EP or head honcho and he basically runs both the development team and business team at Neowiz Bless Studio. He works with all teams to make sure everything is moving in the right direction. He continues to emphasize the core values of our studio every chance he gets, which is “connecting with our community.” The reason why he feels this is so important is the fact that we are creating a game for a global audience. Sungjin has asked the team to be ready to incorporate feedback from the players all over the world to make sure that Bless doesn’t feel like just a localized title but a game that was made for a global audience. We are sure you will see more of Sungjin!

Jaehoon Jeon (Creative Director)

You may remember Jaehoon from our January Dev Talk where he shared the development roadmap for the team. Jaehoon wears many hats on the Bless team as the Game Director and also the Creative Director. Basically, Jaehoon is driving Bless Online’s development. To be more precise, he analyzes the flow of the game and its content. If he finds any issues, Jaehoon first creates a plan for the fix, allocate necessary resources for the update and adjust the release schedule for implementation.

Daeeok Park (Art Director)

Bless Online’s Art Director Daeeok Park takes inspirations from classic console titles such as Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy Tactics and Darksiders 2. He is responsible for creating and populating the majestic world of Bless Online. He’s currently working on new concept art for the world, key characters, and classes in order to prepare the game for global audiences. He’s also creating different costumes and equipment that will be shipping with the Steam version.

Kyeongho Cheon (Audio Director)

Kyeongho Cheon has been our Audio Director from the very beginning of Bless Online! He’s in charge of all aspects of the sound you hear in Bless Online including the audio tech, in-game music, and sound effects. He wants to make sure that everything you hear in Bless Online sounds natural and balanced. Recently, he has been working hard on the localization of the voice over for the Steam version of the game for the past few months. If you turn up the volume while playing Bless, you will hear all the beautiful sounds that he and his team have created.

Seongil Ma (Combat Game Designer)

Seongil Ma is our Combat Game Designer. He’s been hard at work thinking about how to revamp the combat from the ground up for the Steam version so our fans could find it fun. We are excited to share all his hard work with everyone soon. Our goal was nothing less than rebuilding the combat system to make it very different from the one currently in Bless Online. We will be releasing this revamp to the Steam version first and we are confident that the changes will make the wait worth it. Sungil is committed to making a user-friendly and exciting combat system.

Common questions

What is your favorite content in Bless Online?
  • Sungjin Ko (Executive Producer)
I really like taming system in Bless, especially the fact that it’s possible to tame almost every monster that you can find in the world. It also makes the game stand out from other games in the genre. When you encounter a monster in the field, try taming it instead of killing it. Collecting the monsters as your pets can be a fun way to play the game.
  • Jaehoon Jeon (Creative Director)
Can I have two favorites? I personally love the fact that Bless Online offers a variety of content that can be enjoyed by groups. I can party up and explore various dungeons or raid any number of field bosses in different locations. You can also take the party or guild to participate in battles between the factions My other favorite aspect of the Bless Online is the fact that you can tame many different creatures to be your pets and spawn them later. You can go hunting or do quests with your pets, which makes playing the game more exciting.
  • Daeeok Park (Art Director)
The Siege of Castra is my favorite because even though the concept is similar to other online RPGs, you get to experience massive 100 vs 100 battles in Bless.
  • Kyeongho Cheon (Audio Director)
Dungeons! Bless offers a lot of dungeons that beckons your challenge with a level of difficulty that’s neither too easy nor impossible. It definitely scratches the itch for people who love taking risks for rewards. There are hidden tips on how to clear all the stages in dungeons. I hope you find joy in uncovering these stratagems, defeat the boss and getting that sweet loot.

Any monster that you encounter can become your mount. This mount system is probably my favorite. You can see many different kinds of monsters in Bless Online, and they can all be turned into your mounts! Also, it’s really interesting how they can grow and be used for different purposes.

The class/race you like to play and why?
  • Sungjin Ko (Executive Producer)
Union / Panthera / Berserker: I like playing Union’s Pantera race and the Berserker class the most. The reason I prefer Pantera is because to me they look cooler than the other races. I actually played the Berserker class the most so I got used to playing it! It’s one of the most dynamic classes. Also, I like how the axe, Berserker’s main weapon, is designed. I also recommend this to the newcomers because it’s a beginner-friendly class.
  • Jaehoon Jeon (Creative Director )
Amistad / Guardian: I like the image of a brave medieval knight that it portrays. The other joy of playing the Guardian class is the fact that when I play in a party, I can put myself in the front line and play as a tank to absorb lots of damage.
  • Daeeok Park (Art Director)
Hieron / Sylvan Elf / Female Assassin: Mainly because of the fantasy-like feeling that the character and original locations give off, as well as how the character moves nimbly.
  • Kyeongho Cheon (Audio Director)
Lupus / Berserker. I think everyone who likes action should try out this class at least once. It has just the perfect balance between exciting action and laid-back gameplay. The fact that you can lure all the monsters to one place and use various combos to catch them makes the game more fun!
  • Seongil Ma (Combat Game Designer)
Panthera / Berserker: Even though all the races and classes are great, the Berserker’s action combat style suits my play style the most and the combination looks cool when I pick the Panthera. I’d like to recommend this particular combination to the gamers out there! I’m not saying that the other races and classes aren’t as great, but this is just my preference. Go ahead and combine all the races and classes you want! I also recommend the attractive female elf and assassin combination (laughs).

Is there anything you want the Bless Online fans out there to know?
  • Sungjin Ko (Executive Producer)
First of all, I’m glad that I’m able to speak to international fans about our game. The dev team has been working really hard to get the game ready, so we are hoping to release a good game soon. Finally, I want to address the concerns regarding Pay to Win in the game. I promise you that there will be no Pay to Win elements in Bless Online. We want players to enjoy the game their own way.
  • Jaehoon Jeon (Creative Director )
Launching a new game can be both nerve-racking and exciting for any developer. We are always racking our brains to make our in-game content even more interesting. We put so much effort into creating a game experience that you can enjoy. We hope you get to experience it and have fun.
  • Daeeok Park (Art Director)
I hope that you can take a break from recent fads like fighting and survival games for a while so that you can enjoy playing Bless Online with your friends in a wide and beautiful fantasy world.
  • Kyeongho Cheon (Audio Director)
One of the key elements of making MMORPGs better is the continued nurturing from the community. We hope that you will help us make Bless Online a rich and fulfilling experience by making new friends, exploring and sharing together. Please enjoy the game!
