Join the Resistance and re-capture the territories that have been overtaken by the New Light, looted by Marauders or infested with Creatures of mysterious origin, created on Granichny. DESOLATE: The Takeover is a content update for DESOLATE, giving players new ways to fight back the forces invading Granichny Island.
With new weapon types, armor, crafting blueprints and re-imagined enemies, the island is more dangerous than ever. Join your comrades in a blood-curdling fight for liberation, and re-take Granichny from the evil forces that have occupied it for far too long!
1. A new chain of side-quests, titled “Liberation”, was added to the game. Throughout this questline, the player will free parts of Granichny Island invaded by New Light forces, Marauder brigades and Creatures inhabiting the Island. By aiding locals in their quest for liberty, you will unlock new recipes, customization elements and skill points.
The quest is available after completing the “Underground” quest of the main story line, and can be accessed on the first floor of the Oasis safe zone.
2. Added 5 new armor blueprints - unlock them by completing the ranks of “Liberation” sidequest.
3. Added 13 new customization items - unlock them by completing the ranks of “Liberation” sidequest.
4. For every new rank in “Liberation” side-quest you’ll unlock a new skill point - increasing the overall number of abilities the player is able to learn.
5. 3 New recipes for food item and drinks - unlock them by completing the ranks of “Liberation” sidequest.
6. 4 blueprints for Kunai customization — unlock them by completing the ranks of “Liberation” sidequest.
7. 3 new grenade types added - unlock their blueprints by completing the ranks of “Liberation” sidequest.
8. Some enemy types now have physical or psy-armor - use weapon modifications to take them down more easily. The Hunter, Sapsi and Grootch, along with every “Alpha”-type creature, have received strength upgrades.
9. Added the Rest ability, which allows you to restore health and spend time while in a safe zone. To Rest while playing online, all players that are currently in a session will have to Rest.
10. Added the ability to split item stacks in user’s inventory.
11. All workshops can now be accessed directly from the HUD, by pressing the Use button near the workshop.
12. Medical Station Level 2 Workshop now has a Healing mechanic - use it to quickly regain health and cure all trauma and other negative effects.
13. New and improved status effects (QTE):
— Bleeding is now a status effects, which is caused by receiving damage; Bandages no longer cure bleeding, but heal a small amount of health — Poisoning is now also a QTE status effect — Added a new QTE status effect: Shock
Improvements and fixes
1. Optimization and quality improvement of terrain and vegetation.

9. Armor types “Owl-M2” and “Lynx-М4” were reworked.
10. Some green-level modifications can now be created from a level 1 workshop. Some blue-level modifications now require a level 2 workshop to build.
11. Changes to prologue’s closing screen - subtitles now show before the logo.
12. You can now craft Level 1 and Level 2 items using the X-Workshop.

Additions & Changes
An investigation of a mysterious murder awaits you in side-quest titled “The Maniac”. The side-quest can be accessed in Oasis by talking to Mikhail, the trader.
Added the “X-Workbench” side-quest, which will give you access to a highly advanced crafting table. Using it, you’ll be able to create Backpack and Armor items with it - also, all Purple rarity modifications can now be crafted using the new workshop. The workshop will also play a part in crafting new items, that will be added along with Act 3.
In-game tutorial added - pop-up notifications with gameplay hints will now appear during the game. Also, all of the hints can be accessed using the Journal.
Quest markers and Player placed markers now appear in-game on the HUD.

We’ve recently updated the game with new quest line and numerous improvements regarding optimization, performance and general ‘quality of life’ issues. We’re dedicated to improving DESOLATE on its way to full release this Fall, and we will be very grateful for your feedback.
Personal stash size is two times bigger — there are 126 slots now. We would like to warn you that there is a possibility of performance drop on low end computers during online play, we did everything we could to fix all the sources of these problems. If you encounter any problems caused by many items in the stash, please report those problems on steam forums, our Discord or through the feedback form in-game.
We have added auto detection of graphics options. We also recommend to lower the resolution, if you have problems with framerate. If you use auto detected configuration with lower resolution it should improve the smoothness of gameplay.
In the previous patch we have added “the Butcher”, but we did not give any opportunity to get a new artifact if you lost it somehow. You can get a new artifact if you kill the Butcher even after the side quest is finished now.

If the graphics settings are changed in-game, the interface moved behind the main menu layer — fixed.
Main new feature of the patch is the side quest “Missing corpses” (or “ the Butcher “ from the roadmap). It is a life threatening adventure, so be sure to prepare a lot of supplies in advance or even gather a party of fellow volunteers.
It becomes available from the Biologist after the end of the chapter two (end of the current main quest).
At the end you will receive a new type of item, this type will be fully implemented in the third chapter.

Volunteers, we receive lots of reports through the ingame interface every day. It is not possible to get in touch with everyone immediately, but we read all the reports and work to resolve all the bugs we are able reproduce. Thank you for your help!
Pneumatic elevators are added to the game — fast travel system. After you fix it, you can travel to the second station for a small fee (this way you can only move along one line from point A to B and back).
We don’t plan adding free fast travel between all the locations, we think it will have a negative impact on the exploration and make the game too casual. With the current system it will be much easier to travel longer distances if you need it.
Updated UI for crafting and inventory — we received a lot of feedback about clarity of craftable items and item descriptions in the inventory. We tried to fix the problems and make these screens more friendly.
The ruptures will change their positions more frequently during a session.
Changed the starting screens of the game ( you can skip logos).
Changes to the custom settings UI — we have changed the names and descriptions of different options. Players should be able to understand what each option means now.
Optimization of many assets.
Increased quality of icons in the UI.
Fixes
Ranged weapons had problems with the durability in the UI — fixed.
Small fixes to several sounds.
Small fixes in several locations.
There was a problem with the interface in the prologue, some items could not be looted because of it — fixed.
If the special animal needed for a side quest ran away too far, players could not find it after a restart of the game — changed, now the animal will respawn in its initial spawn point at the start of the game.
It was impossible to make a modification using the Stick from the bunker alpha — fixed.
Starting loot was added to the bunker alpha (a weapon, meds, food and water) — we are sure this change will help new volunteers in their journey on Granichniy.
The way player appears on the island when he comes out of the bunker was changed.
New interactive elements in the bunker alpha (try the piano).
Deaths and respawn in the bunker will increase the paranormal activity in the bunker — the more you die the worse it gets.
In the main menu we have added a block with patch notes, our discord server and a button for feedback. With this form you can make bug reports (if you do it ingame, it will add your coordinates automatically), we will contact you for more information or to help you with the problem.
We have added player stats to the journal.
Interface performance optimization.
Optimization of locations “Pier”, “P.I.T.”, “Ray-1” and “Hospital”.
Tech optimization:
> map save, compass widget; > electricity system elements; > character actions checks; > some computations which will improve performance on the slower computers.
This is not the last patch in which we address different performance problems. We have a lot of things which can be improved on the tech part and leveldesign. So far our tests show that we managed to achieve certain improvement of the performance.
Mob health increased from 600 to 1100 health points.
Perks which give you more crafting parts now give 50/100% increase instead of 25/50%.
Players need 35% less experience to upgrade information about hunter, grutch and wanogah in monstrum.
Weight rebalanced for many objects, 20-50% less for most of them.
Fixes
Ammo received from biologist could not be used in weapons — fixed.
Curing a debuff on the status screen left a blank debuff — fixed.
On the status screen the UI showed items which could not cure the debuff — fixed.
We have some awesome news to share. Here you can see the new development roadmap. What’s most important — we’re ready to announce that DESOLATE will get a full Steam release this Fall. We’ll share the exact launch date in the future. Next, there are some things we’re working on right now:
1. Overall optimizations and improvements. We plan to make the game run better, especially on low and middle-end PCs, and for now it’s our highest priority.
2. Fast Travel — you’ll get an access to a new fast travelling system soon.
3. We’re working on new quests that will immerse you in gritty and unnerving stories. You can make a guess by their names. In ‘Butcher’, you will fight a new mythical threat. ‘The Church’ will clash you with a crazy religious fanatic. And ‘The Maniac’ will drag you into a grim detective-like tale.
4. Faction Wars — it’s a new huge side activity that will bring new mechanics and rewards. The name is subject to change.
5. Full release is planned for Fall 2018 with the exact date still TBA. It will introduce a complete main story, which will add more hours of gameplay and new activities.

Among marauders you can meet a demolition man — be careful with him and don’t let him get close.
Dorg:
— QTE animation and interaction are updated (we know about the problem with the sound playback during QTE-animation, and we are working to fix the issue); — chance and debuff period are lowered for the QTE.
Oasis NPCs received new animations.
Throwing weapons had their damage increased: grenades by 40%; kunai by 50%; molotovs by 25% ( the damage frequency is increased by 40% and damage zone lifetime decreased by 50%).
Chance to be set on fire is lowered by 30% and its damage is decreased by 25%.
You can encounter small scale events where opposing factions fight each other in different locations.
Added inverse kinematics to all AIs (their legs should adapt to the landscape).
Added new ambient music to the “Hospital”.
24 new tracks for the NPC with a guitar on the territory of the “Oasis”.
Fixes
Localization fixes and translation of some of the missed words.
If the key binding for the UV-flashlight was changed the hint did not take it into account — fixed.
Level design:
— fixed several terrain problems; — fixed several floating in the air objects; — fixed places where player could get stuck; — optimization of several locations.
Broken tools were not correctly displayed on the crafting screen — fixed.
In the crafting menu when you press the button “Craft” modification slot is reset — fixed.
Sound:
— if the player had a gun in his hands, there was no sound when the player was set on fire — fixed; — several small fixes of the sounds.
