Here at the Raft HQ progress is being made each day. While it is not in an explosive manner, the team is in fact growing and we are of course putting all of this new production power into the development of Raft. We have now started focusing on adding more of a story and progress, which has been requested for a long time. We are as excited as you about adding more lore and adventure to Raft, and we will get back to this in a future dev blog.
For now, we have got an update that should hopefully make living the raft life a bit easier, both in terms of game play and optimization.
Sprinkler
It is finally here! The latest in watering technology for rafting use. It features a water tank, a purifying thing that purifies salt water, a hose, and some more stuff! But you do not care about the technicalities, right? You want to know what it can do for you! And that is the best part. You no longer have to worry about running around with a cup to water your grass or crop plots. Just fill it up with some salty H2O and provide it with some electricity and it is up and running, letting you focus on more important tasks, like finding that last rare goat. So what are you waiting for? Get yours today!
Optimization
We always try making the game run smoother to provide you all with the most pleasant adventure and building experience possible. Attached to the raft are a bunch of hitboxes that allows you to actually walk, hit and aim at stuff. While these have been necessary, we realized we could merge several of these into one to serve the same purpose, resulting in a whole lot fewer objects that need to be calculated each frame. This should result in some overall FPS gains.
Secondly, we reworked the system that handles how the raft collides with islands, and how the collision boundaries is expanded and destroyed along with you building your raft. Previously, some experienced quite some lag when placing foundations and floors on big rafts. This should now be greatly reduced.
Lastly, it should now be much smoother to destroy large buildings, as the stability system has been modified to run over several frames instead of trying to do everything in one.
We hope these changes make your Rafting life a bit easier!
Before we call it a day we wanted to mention there are two new items to find hidden somewhere in the world.
That is all from us today! Have a good weekend!

After long discussions, we have decided to make a rather big adjustment to Raft. In order to better fit our creative vision, all water in the game has been replaced with sand. This will not affect the game play mechanics in any major way, however the look and feel of the game might be perceived differently.
We hope you understand our intentions and that you enjoy this potentially sudden, but important change!

A lot of you have experienced FPS issues and lag in the new update. We just released a new hotfix update that fixes this issue! Restart Steam to make sure you get it!
It is finally time to release what we have been working on for so long! This update is a big milestone in what we knew Raft could be, and we are super excited to share it with you all! Check out this video for an overview of the new features and read on for more details: https://youtu.be/AbkCjfNYl8E
For the longest time, you have been left with no choice but to survive the oceans all alone. Your raft has been void of friendly life (except for the occasional human. Urgh!). But that is about to come to an end! You can now find and bring fluffy, cute animals onto your raft to accompany you on your journey! Apart from being a companion, these animals also provide renewable resources for further adventure. The new animals are the Llama, Goat and Clucker, which produce Wool, Milk and Eggs respectively.
The Net Launcher
In order to get these animals to your raft you will of course have to catch them somehow. Seeing as they are quite fast, you will need something that quickly launches a net. That is where the Net Launcher (suitable name, I know) comes in handy. Combine some pipes, an old oil can, and explosive powder - and you’re ready to make some nets fly!
Grass Plots
In order to make sure your animals are comfortable and are kept fed on your Raft, you will need to invest in some grass plots. Without them your animals will not have anything to eat and will eventually perish! These are placeable squares that connect together to form a neat seamless field. Add a bit of water and Boom! You got yourself a lush meadow!
To craft grass plots, you want to gather some Dirt from the large islands. This is done using the new Shovel!
The Warthog
A new enemy has landed on the large islands. While the Warthog is a big beast, you do not want to mistake it for a slow one. You will need to be on your toes to avoid his tusks!
Apart from gaining its head and the accompanied glory, killing a Warthog also yields leather, which is useful in the crafting of…
Armor and Backpack
With the leather from a warthog and the wool from a llama, one can craft a number of things. The first of those includes armor and a backpack. These are not simply fashion accessories, but actually lets you carry more and protects you in a fight.
Healing Salve
Seeing as the Clucker now produces eggs, the Seagull no longer drop these, which was a necessary balance adjustment to make sure eggs would not be available in abundance. Eggs are now also an ingredient when crafting Healing Salve. Healing Salve is a quicker way to heal if you do not feel like waiting too long.
Apart from introducing all of the above, this update also brings a lot of systems that will greatly help us in adding more content in the future! Ground and raft AI movement, tiling build system and the armor system are just a few of the systems which took a lot of work getting set up but are now ready to be utilized more!
Oh! And we also added some visuals for the Flippers and Oxygen Bottle.

Hello everyone! Christmas is creeping up on us fast, so we felt it was time to give you some more in-depth insight into what is going on at the Raft HQ! Our technicians, pencil wielders and polygon pullers have been working hard in order to produce the exciting stuff we have to show today! We have posted some stuff on our social medias, but we have been a bit secretive about what they entail, so let us tell you more right away!
DOMESTIC ANIMALS
We feel this is a big one, and we hope you feel so too! Having animals on the raft has been requested for a long time, and it is something we have wanted for a long time as well. It will bring more life to the raft, more purpose to walls and fences - but most importantly, it will make the rafting life less lonesome! It is a big feature, which we knew would take quite a lot of effort and time, and we wanna make sure it is not simply crammed in, hence why it's been taking some time. However, we are now ready to reveal that it is finally on its way!
There are a lot of systems involved in making these animals come to life - so far, we have got them walking and finding their way on both the islands and the raft. On the raft you will have to make sure they do not fall into the ocean though. They can find grass to eat and you can catch them and bring them to your raft. You can get resources from them and if you do not take care of them… they die..
In order to have animals on your raft you will have to do some preparatory work. You need to make sure the animals are happy and comfortable on your raft, otherwise they might not feel too good. And catching them will not be easy either, but we will get into more detail on this in a future post!
So, who are these creatures? Well why don’t we show you?
Llama
This majestic creature will provide you with wool, which you will be able to use for new equipment - soon to be announced!
Goat
The goat is a good friend when life is lonely, and it also produces milk, which is great!
Clucker
This little creature might be a tad erratic but produces great tasting eggs!
NEW LAND ENEMY
Lastly, we have a new defender of the large islands. Chances are you will have to fight this one before claiming the loot or catching animals to bring onto your raft!
There is going to be a lot more new things added together with these animals so stay tuned for more news! Hope you are as excited about this stuff as we are!
Until next time! Remember to follow our Twitter and Facebook :tinder:
We have listened to you guys, and are now bringing new game modes to make for more exciting gameplay in Raft, as well as some much requested gameplay features!
PEACEFUL MODE
Peaceful mode is now a thing. This mode has the same settings as easy mode, but with the added feature of all enemies being passive; so you can enjoy the calm breeze without having to worry.
UPDATED HARD MODE
Hard mode have gotten a makeover: there's now a chance of multiple sharks spawning when you kill one, and the sharks health has been increased a bit (5 hits instead of 4) for it to go away. The shark will also attack in a more frequent, but random pattern, which should make for more exciting gameplay. We aim for this to be a mode where you should think and calculate the chances you take - before you take them. As always, we appreciate feedback, so yell at us if it's too hard. :) Food and Thirst is also harder to sustain, and all enemies have had their damage increased.
3RD PERSON MODE
Third person mode has been added to the game (default key is comma ,) - just take a look here:
FOUNDATION ARMOR
Upgraded game modes, upgraded security. Bruce is annoying in late game, and isn't really a threat to those well equipped to fight him off - for this reason, we have decided to make foundation armor untargetable for the shark: so you will now be able to completely fortify your raft, and not have to worry about pesky shark attacks any longer. Enjoy!
NOCLIP MODE
This one is quite amazing, and we're really looking forward to see how people utilize this. This is only available in creative mode, and allows you to fly around to view your raft, or even build/paint in noclip if that's what you wish to do (default key for this is N) - take a look:
CHANGELOG
:Green_Plus: Added peaceful game mode and updated hard game mode. :Green_Plus: Added 3rd person view in all modes and noclip mode in creative. :Green_Plus: Updated foundation armor to be untargetable/immortal to Bruce. :Green_Plus: Added schools of fish around normal islands as requested by you guys. :Green_Plus: Added some fall damage to all game modes besides creative. :Green_Plus: Shark bait now lasts 30% longer in hard mode. :Green_Plus: We improved loading times when loading into a game. :Green_Plus: Modified food and thirst decrease a bit to be more fair.
:orwell_check: Fixed an issue with the seagull attacking crops in creative. :orwell_check: Fixed an issue with lighting (no lights at night). :orwell_check: Fixed an issue with multiple sharks spawning in non-hard modes.
That's it for today! We hope that you enjoy the update just as much as we have enjoyed making it - if you have any questions, feel free to hit us up in one of the Raft Communities:
This awesome Llama is just one of many new animals that will roam the large islands - this one is friendly, and can be tamed - more on that later on. For now, here's a picture!
