MEMORIES OF MARS - Memories of Mars
Dear Martians,

Here is Patch #2 for Memories of Mars Season 2:

ADDITIONS

• Added collision to Tier 2 half walls.
• Increase LoDs and LoD optimization. Should see a notable different in loads times in certain areas.
• Player building holograms can now be seen by newly joined members of an alliance.
• Holograms will now disappear if you leave the alliance.

FIXES

• Various potential server crashes fix.
• Emote – Sit and Toggle UI key bindings working correctly.
• Fixes to various map marker interactions.
• Fixed shotgun reload when using the magazine attachment.
• Weapon modules no longer fully repair your items when equipped/unequipped.
• Sniper rifle accuracy fix. Sniper rifle will now have correct accuracy when using it in Aim mode. (Some test values for other weapons slipped through the cracks if you’re wondering why it was acting like a shotgun).

CHANGES

• Adjustments to loot distribution.
o The adjustments made should see an overall increase of loot.
o More ‘lights’ in NPC hotspots to loot.
o Increase in finding more ‘fun’ items, such as Weapons, grenades, armor etc...
• Weapon balance changes.
o Game design has changed its approach to weapon balancing. Each tier of weapon will now do more damage, shot for shot, than the previous tier.
• Players can no longer add more than 8 Nitrate to their Algae farm.

Known issues

• It is possible that players might get stuck when vaulting over a tier 1 half wall. It is rare (about 1 in 50 attempts internally). Unstuck will not work, logging in and out will fix the issue.

MEMORIES OF MARS - Memories of Mars
Dear Martians,

Season 2 came with the introduction of PvE servers, unfortunately character progression between PvE and PvP was disconnected. We stated in our post Season 2 post launch announcement that this was never our intention and that compensation and a resolution to this would be coming.

We now have some additional info to share:

What are you doing regarding players not being able to receive Flops on from the Memory lab on PvE servers?
We have already started the process of transferring the Memory lab data on the PvP server, to the Memory lab data on the PvE server. Once this is complete players will be able to retrieve their flops as normal.

So do we just have to wait then?
For the exact mechanic we aim to have to this ready within 2 weeks’ time. On Thursday (9th) we will patch, following our normal schedule. In this patch we will implement phase one of our rewards and compensation mechanic. In your In-game menu you will find a new button reading ‘Claim Reward’. Once you activate this button you will receive 10k flops into your inventory. This reward is available for the entire season. It is up to you when you wish to redeem it. It will not be available next season.
You can choose to use this on both the PvP and PvE server. This is available to everyone, regardless of if you played during season 1, regardless of if you never want to play on a PvE server and weren’t affected. Once you’ve received your reward you will no longer be able to claim it again. Remember that you will receive the physical Flops in your inventory, meaning they are subject to all the rules surrounding dropping loot (relevant for PvP servers or PvP active zones).

What about the emergency capsule? I can’t get that on the PvE server either.
This is slightly different as the mechanic isn’t tied to just Flops. We are in the process of making the emergency capsule global. It is unlikely that you will be able to retrieve the contents of your Season 1 emergency capsule on a PvE server during season 2. Season 3 will be different and it will follow the global rules, meaning server ruleset doesn’t matter, just being Official will be the key.
If you only have Flops in your emergency capsule it is my advice that you keep them in there for the time being. If you have items and you don’t want to play on the PvP server at all. The above 10k compensation should help cover you (you can only store a maximum of 5k flops in a capsule).

What about the disconnect of PvE and PvP character progression?
Work has already started to make this Global. It will take a little more time than just transferring data, as is the case with the memory lab. We are currently investigating and testing a lot of potential edge cases that would cause a negative impact. We plan to have this mechanic implemented within the next 4 weeks of Season 2. We will update at the earliest convenience should these timings change. At the absolutely worst case scenario it will be available on Day 1 of Season 3. It is our intention to get this working during season 2, all signs currently point to this being the case as opposed to the later.

tl;dr

• Everyone will receive 10k Flops. All you have to do is have a character created and leave the cloning facility.
• Memory lab fix within the next 2 weeks.
• PvP to PvE progression within the next 4 weeks.
• All 3 mechanics will follow the Global system, as long as it’s an Official server.
MEMORIES OF MARS - Memories of Mars
Hello Martians! Thanks for joining us on Mars for Season 2! We appreciate all the feedback we have received and we are planning some fixes to a few issues that you may have experienced. Below you will find the bug, question or statement in bold. and The way we plan to handle or resolve the issue will be indented and in italics. If you have any issues or find any bugs, please see the link at the end of this post.

BUGS

Attachments repair weapon durability.
Thank you to user Xero1320 for the video demonstrating the issue. Confirmed bug.
Spamming pick up buttons gives you multiple items.
We have confirmed this is a visual bug only. Players spamming pick up will show multiple pickups. Opening your inventory will confirm that you received the intended amount. Confirmed visual bug.
Supply trackers randomly changing location when entered into a storage container. A lot of times the spawn is off map.
Two separate issues are happening here. First the tracker changing its location every time it’s placed in and outside of a storage container. Bug confirmed.
    • The tracker is sometimes not showing the correct feedback when you arrive at your shown location (little green light) but it is possible to dig up your items if you are in the correct spot. The tracker is simply not showing you the location (but it isn’t off the map). Bug confirmed.
You can dismantle devices from outside a base and through a wall.
Confirmed issue. Likely due to recent building optimization changes. Set to high priority fix.
Misfire not having enough feedback (audio etc.)
Confirmed Misfire is not playing its audio feedback. Visual feedback is there (black smoke).
Server names are too long.
We will reduce the name size. Use MoM instead of Memories of Mars. We will also make the official server icon (to prove it’s an official server) more visible. For those who don’t know what the icon is. In the server browser there is a corporal rank logo to the left of the name, this shows it’s an official server.
Server CCU is 64, not 40?
This will be resolved around 1500 CEST today. All official servers will be set to 40 as planned.
The text and the images in the news section of the main menu are not centered correctly.
    To be reviewed.

BALANCE

Misfire ammo rates are so frustrating
We will reduce the rate from 15% to 5%. Potential this mechanic gets remove if FMJ can get something ‘sexy’ to make you want it.
Difference in Damage between weapons as a distinguisher.
Design will switch its approach to linear damage progression. A tier 3 weapon will always do more damage, shot for shot than a tier 2 weapon, which does more damage than a tier 1.
    • Using totally random numbers as an example. In the current balance.
A Tier 1 pistol does 50 damage. Tier 2 50 and tier 3 50 as well, per shot. Their fire rates however are different meaning a Tier 1 pistol shoots every 0.35 seconds. Tier 2 0.3 and Tier 3 0.25. That is the current balance.
    • New balance will have Tier 1 pistols doing 50 damage. Tier 2 doing 70 damage and tier 3 doing 95 damage per shot. The rates of fire would remain 0.35, 0.3, and 0.25.
    • These changes will affect all weapons and they will follow a similar thought process.

Massively reduced amounts of loot. Whole hotspots not having loot.
Game design is reviewing the loot spawner and will increase spawn rates (both enemies and loot) where it is required.
    • Remember that loot in general will be scarcer than Season 1 due to the amalgamation of players across multiple servers.

SYSTEM CHANGE REQUIRED

Abilities not saving between PvP and PvE (just PvP to PvP).
This was never our intention and is currently being investigated. We know it is due to PvE and PvP data being separate. Our goal going forward will be for players to only level their character once. Your progression will carry across with you between all official servers. The thought process being we want to provide players with as many options and possibilities to play how you want to play, in the moment. When we have more information regarding timings we will update everyone.
    • Regardless of when this will be implemented, everyone who has made a character during season 2 will be receiving in-game compensation in the form of flops. Make sure you have created a character and left the cloning facility. More information about this specific compensation coming soon. Compensation is also planned for the earliest opportunity.
Memory lab not available on PvE servers.
Same issue as above. Same compensation scheme will cover this.

MEMORIES OF MARS - Memories of Mars
Season 2 Patch 1

Good day Martians, new and old! Today is Tuesday and that means its Season 2 patch day!

Season 1 came with its ups and downs but ultimately we saw a really nice improvement of the game. Performance optimization and stabilization, floating rocks sent back to the surface and client crashes squished. Entirely new mechanics added. A total of 24 patches and 3 separate balance patches. A lot of input coming directly from you, our community.

We hope you will continue to support us during our Early Access phase of production. Your feedback is vital in making Memories of Mars the best it can be.

If you left us during Season 1 we look forward to you enjoying the new improvements that Season 2 brings. Please let us know your thoughts and feelings, here on Discord or Via a Steam review. Steam reviews are a great way for us to track the current mode of the community. Positive or negative doesn’t concern us, your feedback is the key. Make sure to drop us a review if you haven’t already, it massively helps!

Time for the good stuff! Below you will find an extensive breakdown for Season 2 patch 1:

Production:

• Female Avatar.
• Official PvE servers.
• Phase 1 of Private server implementation.
• Phase 1 of Vehicle implementation on test servers.
• New weapon XB-220 Crusader Crossbow.
• Additional lore.
• Additional Points of Interest.
• Algae farm player device and Flood light player device.

Game Design:

• Weapon balance pass:
- All weapons have had their damages normalized. This means shot for shot a tier 1 weapon will do the same as a tier 3 weapon. However you will notice that rates of fire for each weapon have been changed significantly.
• Resource balance pass:
- Redistribution of mid and late game resources. Loot will now be more localized to certain areas. For example. Previously, Carbon could be found across the map. It will now only be available in Industrial type hotspots.
- Implemented ‘Jackpot’ loot conditions. There is now a rare possibility to find Tier 2 and 3 Items when scavenging in hotspots.
• Skill tree balance pass:
- Extended the survival tree.
- Early game skills have had a global cost reduction.
• XB-220 Crusader Crossbow. Shoots silently with high accuracy and high damage. Can craft a variety of different bolts to suit your needs. Recipe can be found under the Tooling skill tree.
• New tutorial images and triggers have been added to guide the players during earlier progression.
• New weapon modifiers – Suppressor.
• Player device – Algae farm. Converts nitrate to Biomass.
• Player device – Spotlight.
• Reduced upkeep cost of all buildings and devices.
• Introduced wall armor attachments recipes to the Architect tree.
• Reintroduced Misfire mechanic back for low-grade ammunition.
• Armor damage reduction values are now more noticeable between each tier.

Level Design:

• Added 9 new Points of Interest into the world to explore.
• Extended no build volumes around certain NPC hotspots and cave entrances in preparation for the PvE servers.
• Added vehicle spawner to the Private server configuration.
• Fixed various floating objects, mountain collisions and tears in the world.
• Unlocked a new secret areas near SBE4. (Refer to map for hotspot codes).

Code:

• Added the option to suicide in the game menu.
• Gunplay, weapon handling and 2 handed item optimization:
- Switching between 2 handed wieldable items should have little to no 'use' delay. This includes shooting, mining, deploying and so on. This also includes coming out of a sprint, jump or other animations.
• Building system optimization:
- Optimized net code for player made buildings. Buildings will load out and in faster. This optimization allowed game design to lower upkeep costs significantly.
• Further server optimization:
- Server now execute Physics in a Multi-threaded mode to make better use of dedicated server machines.
- Servers shifted to use custom build configuration to minimize performance cost of generating debug data.
- Disabled Server default Engine behaviour of updating/transferring data that is obsolete to MoM clients.
- Optimization to avoid world levels checks/updates on dedicated servers.
- Devices cosmetic updates run solely on clients.
• Better server infrastructure and geographic locations for Chinese players.
• Optimization for Private servers.
• Fixed players spawning into a cloning facility and falling through the world.
Art
• Designed Algae farm.
• Designed Flood lights.
• Designed and implemented FX for PvE Combat zone.
• Landscape optimization.
• Introduction of new patterns.
• Additional LoDs for terrain, player buildings and devices.
• Implemented environmental lore.
o Make sure to check out different monitors in the world to find some emails or news pertaining to a time before the event. You may also find some interesting experiments in the world.

Known issues:

• Tutorial images are stretched when you open them. They will reset to their correct position.
• Attaching a scope to XB-220 Crusader makes the cross hair slightly offset. Fixed next patch.
• Misfire ammo missing its audio feedback.
• Hit indicators are shown when shooting players that are not in PvP-mode on a PvE server. No damage is applied.
Balancing
• Community helps drive a lot of our balancing, be it weapons, armor, resource distribution or even upkeep costs. Balance can and will always change so if you think the current values for something are too high, too low, not enough and so on. Let your voice be heard.

Kind Regards,

The Limbic Dev Team.

Get ready for Season 2...
MEMORIES OF MARS - Memories of Mars
Dear Martians,

With season 2 around the corner we’d like to share some news with how we plan to handle servers going forward.

Overview:

Our goal is to get our official servers at maximum capacity as much as possible. We believe there is a large portion of the game players are simply missing out on due to the lack of condensed CCU (concurrent users). Therefore we have made the following changes to CCU limits and amount of available official servers.

- Maximum CCU has been dropped from 64 to 40. We can easily increase server CCU limits on demand.
- Amount of available servers has been drastically decreased. We can easily deploy more servers as required with demand.

Server Breakdown:

EU:

• 2 PvP
• 2 PvE
• 1 Test server
• 1 Event server (Password protected. Will be used for community events).

NA:

• 2 PvP (1 East 1 West)
• 2 PvE (1 East 1 West)
• 1 Test server (East)

Oceanic:

• 1 PvP
• 1 PvE

China:

• 1 PvP (HK)
• 2 PvE (HK)
• 2 PvE (Korea and Japan)
• 1 Test server (HK)

Emergency capsule information: Some of you we are sure have the following question:

‘But I built my time capsule on EU/NA/CH/AUS server X and now it’s not there?!’

Don’t fear, we’ve simply merged that server info into the new servers.
All time capsules must be retrieved on a PvP server. This is only the case for Season 1 into Season 2. For future seasons you will be able to retrieve your capsule on whatever server rule set you originally built it.

If you want to start Season 2 on a PVE server, pick up your capsule and its contents on a PVP server first. Remembering that your character carries with you across servers, but not your inventory.

Built a capsule on EU?

EU PvP 1 contains the previous servers:
• EU 1 – 11 excluding EU 2
EU PvP 2 contains the previous servers:
• EU 12 – 20 including the previous EU 2 server.

Built a capsule on NA?

• Depending on whether you built your capsule on an East or West server in season 1, pick up your capsule during the following season on PvP West 1 or East 1.

Built your capsule on China?

• Pick up your capsule on China PvP 1.
Built your capsule on Oceanic?
• Pick up your capsule on AUS PvP 1.
Built multiple capsules across servers?
• They will be consolidated to 1 capsule when you retrieve it.

MEMORIES OF MARS - Memories of Mars
Dear Martians,

One of the most popular community requests is to have PVE and Private servers available as an option in Memories of Mars. During the next season, besides the official PVP servers, players will have the option to join official "PVE with PVP events" servers.

But what exactly does "PVE with PVP events" servers actually mean? On these servers there is no base raiding or player combat except around FLOP events. When these FLOP events trigger, they will display an area around them where a player can enter. In that area, PVP action will be allowed. To avoid exploits, there will be a "cooldown" effect in place therefore you will be in PVP mode for some time when you leave the area so watch out!
How will the “cooldown” effect work: The cooldown effect is based on distance not a certain amount of time. How it works is that there are borders surrounding the FLOP events the inner (blue hexagon dome that is visible to the player) and an outer border which is invisible to the player.

When entering PvP mode: When a player is going to an event they pass through the outer (invisible) border and they are still safe. When they enter the inner (visible hexagon) border they are in PvP mode.

When exiting PvP mode: When a player goes to leave an event, they will leave the inner (visible hexagon) border but will not be safe until they pass through the outer (invisible) border.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1454995871

For Private servers, there will be 3 options:

1) Dedicated server were the player can host their own server. With this option players can host a server on their end with a PC of their choice. We'll be providing a handbook to support this.

2) Private Server with 3rd party: The player can setup a server with a 3rd party server hosting of their choice. While this is an option, it will require some technical skills from the player. It's not recommended for new players but rather individuals that have the technical skills to implement it.

3) Official Partner Hosting: Players can rent a server through https://www.g-portal.com/ . Gportal will be implementing a user-friendly interface for players wishing to opt with this solution.

We'll be communicating more in-depth information in the coming days in regards to the above.

Thank you,

505 Games & Limbic Entertainment.
