Clicker Heroes 2 - McNiiby
Hey everyone!

We’ve just finished up 0.08 and we hope you enjoy it!

MAJOR CHANGES:

  • Automator nodes in the skill tree have now been moved into the "Automator tree", with its own point system. The Skill tree has been modified somewhat to accommodate this change. You now obtain "Automator points" from the original skill tree to spend in the Automator tree.
  • A large number of new Automator stones/gems have been added to accommodate additional builds.
  • A search bar has been added to the Skill Tree (and Automator tree).
  • Some number of clickables now float near your character instead of appearing on the ground.
  • Gilding is no longer forced after completing every 15th world. Instead, it is forced upon starting the next world (world 16, 31, etc.).
  • Reworked the tutorial arrows to give new players a better idea of what they should be doing.

MODDING SUPPORT:

OTHER:

  • Major performance improvements, particularly to high-haste and fast attack builds.
  • Skill tree positions and zoom levels are now saved.
  • Saves are now automatically versioned and backed up, with several daily backups in case something goes wrong.
  • Fixed a large number of crash bugs.
  • Purchasing a node in the skill tree that applies to a specific skill (like Clickstorm) now also improves variations of that skill.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the Upgrade X Newest Item gems to not trigger stone cooldowns.
  • Fixed an issue that caused treasure chests to give the same amount of gold as a normal monster.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause the Clickstorm family of buffs to end prematurely.
  • Fixed issues that could cause the upgrade X newest item gems to crash.

Thanks again to those of you that joined in on the 0.08 experimental builds and helped test these changes! We are working on 0.09 which will include Ethereal items and we will be sharing progress updates as time goes on.

Patch 0.07 notes:

New Feature:
  • "Gilding" now occurs on every 15th world, and your character level is no longer artificially capped. Gilding resets your skill tree, and you get 6 skill points to start with. You keep your Automator upgrades (including stones and gems) and you get a huge damage boost. You don't start the game back at World 1. Instead, you continue going forward in worlds from where you were before gilding. Players who passed world 15 have been set back to the start of world 16 and automatically gilded, with a few extra skill points as a one-time bonus for getting that far.
Balance changes:
  • Haste now reduces the duration of all buffs, and increases their tick rates, except for Killing Frenzy, Gift of Chronos, and Huge Click Discount.
  • Raised the duration of Killing Frenzy to 10 seconds.
  • Huge Click Discount now scales more slowly with Huge Click Damage.
  • Worlds use a new XP formula and XP decline formula. The first 7 runs of each world provide most of the XP available in the world.
  • Reduced the rate at which worlds grow in difficulty.
  • Worlds 1 and 2 have been rebalanced for new players.
  • All worlds are now (temporarily) standard economy and standard monster health growth.
Other changes:
  • Critical hit damage numbers now look different.
  • The Automator's UI now handles multiple stones and gems of each type.
  • Item tooltips now display your stat changes.
  • Added an option in the settings menu for a larger mouse pointer.
  • Added character import and export functionality to the main menu.
  • Lots of bug fixes.
  • Many performance improvements.
  • Fixed many text display issues.
  • Fixed Curse of the Juggernaut from breaking costs of skills.
  • Changed the shop item efficiency curve to match the new XP growth changes.
  • Timed zones now give you gold for partial kills of monsters.

Hey everyone, just a quick update about gilding and upcoming features.

While we may not always have time to respond to everyone, we are spending a lot of time reading everything in this subreddit. Please continue posting and voting, it helps us a lot in deciding what to prioritize, and occasionally a new idea comes up that actually makes sense to implement.

For 0.07, we hope to get it (gilding) live for everyone next week some time.

For 0.08, the patch is planned to contain:

  • The Automator skill tree split
  • Skill tree node undo
  • Skill tree searchability
  • modding support + tutorials
  • some number of smaller fixes/changes.

We hope to put 0.08 in testing in about a week.

Please bear in mind the current game is still in a very early state. We are aware that some things may not feel complete yet, or may seem a bit bumpy in its current state, but we are very confident that your concerns will be alleviated (especially your concerns about gilding) by several features we have planned in later versions, which we've been working out the details of for quite a while now.

What we will not do, however, is make changes to quickly and prematurely patch any issues about how the game currently feels when such premature changes could easily cause the game to be worse in the long term.

Once we have v1.0, we want a game that can stay fun for years. Hope you all understand our motivations for this!

Hey everyone! We put it up a test version for 0.06. Once it looks stable we'll push it live to everyone (on Steam and the website). Anyone can test it, though. Your saves should be compatible between these versions.

Back up your save folder before running this version, because it may be unstable. Your save folder is in C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\ClickerHeroes2

In your Steam library, right click on "Clicker Heroes 2" and select "Properties". Then go to the "Betas" tab and enter the beta access code "clickclickclick", and select "Check Code". Then select the beta to participate in - "public_test - PTR". Once you do this, Clicker Heroes 2 in your library should say [public_test].

- Corrected the Improved Powersurge damage multiplier.

- Fixed Critical Killing Surge, Mana Crit Overflow and Bhaal's Rise failing to activate.

- AutoAttackStorm no longer replaces Clickstorm, it is added as a separate skill.

- Reapplying the Gift of Chronos buff now spreads the remaining value of your previous Gift of Chronos over the new 5 second duration.

- Told the game that Managize exists so it can actually give it to you.

- On Zone 1, Reload Rampage will no longer believe you started the zone with the amount of gold you had at the end of the previous world.

- Huge Click Discount no longer scales with your current Item Cost Reduction.

- Reworded Small Clicks description to (hopefully) no longer imply that it's a separate skill from Big Clicks.

- Fixed Expandable Small Clicks.

- Killing Frenzy can now overwrite itself when you a kill another monster.

- Discharge now activates the effects of any buffs you have that activate on attacks.

- Multiple buffs trying to fall off or get overwritten in the same frame will no longer cause some of them to persist (Looking at you, Huge Click Discount).

- Minor text clarifications and changes.
Clicker Heroes 2

Late last year, Clicker Heroes developer Playsaurus announced that the sequel to its popular clicker RPG would ditch the original's free-to-play model in favor of an upfront cost, in no small part because its creators wanted "a cleaner conscience" and didn't want to exploit the big-spending 'whale' players that drive most free-to-play games. At the time, the studio said the change "may or may not work," and that with an upfront cost, the sequel "probably isn't worth nearly as much money." Well, Clicker Heroes 2 is now available on Steam Early Access for $30, and while it remains to be seen if it's as profitable as the original, it is most definitely popular.

At the time of writing, Clicker Heroes 2 is well into Steam's top 100 with 8,947 concurrent players and a daily peak of 9,350. According to Steam Charts, it's managed an average of 7,336 concurrent players since it launched this past Monday, with an all-time peak of 9,570. Those are strong numbers for any new Early Access game, but for a $30 sequel fighting to shed the free-to-play reputation of its predecessor, Clicker Heroes 2's popularity is astonishing. Just as impressively, its Steam reviews are currently 78 percent positive. There's clearly something to it, so I decided to give it a play myself. And I have to admit, while I'm not the biggest fan of idle games, I found Clicker Heroes 2 quite absorbing.

Like its predecessor, Clicker Heroes 2 is an idle action RPG where your character moves and attacks automatically and you passively earn money and experience. Your primary input is clicking to attack faster and occasionally upgrading your character. As Playsaurus puts it, it's "a never-ending journey to the top right of your screen." That journey starts with you swinging a wet noodle around dealing 20 damage to monsters that drop 30 gold. Fast forward an hour and you're wielding the fuckin' femur of Zeus (or whatever it is) dealing so much damage and gaining so much gold that their values can only be expressed in exponents. And that's just the beginning. In Clicker Heroes 2, a quadrillion gold is pocket change. I don't get out of bed for anything under a decillion.

That much hasn't changed, but Clicker Heroes 2 improves on the ideas established in the original by polishing them up and making them considerably more interactive. For instance, you're no longer just clicking stationary enemies. You're also clicking gold piles and energy pylons along the path you're running, fattening your wallet and replenishing the energy you spend on clicks. Apart from energy, you've also got mana which you can spend on skills, of which there are a frightening amount: Playsaurus says the current skill tree has around 600 nodes and that new characters will also get their own unique trees.

Most of those nodes are passive buffs, but some of them are active skills you can slot into your hotbar. Some skills cost energy and some cost mana, but they all have cooldowns. As a result, a big part of Clicker Heroes 2 is building your own skill rotations—yes, exactly like an MMO, albeit greatly simplified. You can even program skills to trigger automatically using a macro-like system called the Automator.  You can also tailor your character's stats by buying gear with specific bonuses—earn more gold, deal more critical hits, encounter more treasure chests, and so on.

Finally, Clicker Heroes 2 is a pretty little thing, which is important for a game that's designed to be stared at through a dreamlike haze. Its bright, cartoony art is easy on the eyes, and its smooth attack animations are fun to watch. I especially like the super-click attacks which lob giant cursors at enemies like some kind of Microsoft Office mortar.

If games like Diablo and Borderlands are loot treadmills, Clicker Heroes 2 is a loot conveyor belt that leads right to your face. It's the videogame equivalent of a bottomless bag of potato chips that you don't even have to reach for because the chips are conveniently shoveled into your gaping pie hole. It's a game about pure, unfiltered catharsis, not challenge. But speaking as someone who generally doesn't like idle games, Clicker Heroes 2 does feel like one of the best idle games out there.

Hey everyone! Just letting you know we're working real hard on the next few updates. As far as our priorities are concerned:

  • Fixing broken or overpowered nodes / combos in Cid's Skill Tree

  • Offline progress

  • "Gilding". This feature resets your skill tree every 200 character levels, and you get a massive damage boost for doing so. The damage boost might even be high enough that you'll fly through your highest world. Some of you (advanced players) may have noticed an XP wall at character level 200. This wall will be completely eliminated when the gilding feature is added. Your Automator stones and gems will persist through gilding.

  • The ability to undo choices in the skill tree. We're deliberating exactly how to do this, because we don't want optimal play to be "1) Go some direction in the skill tree. 2) Play until you gain one or more levels. 3) Undo your choices and go this other direction." because that's terrible gameplay. I think we'll end up with a decent solution that everyone is satisfied with.

  • Finishing up the Desert world.

On a longer time scale, we are working on the Wizard. The Wizard will have his own skills and skill tree, completely independent of Cid. He will effectively be another game.

We don't plan to invalidate progress with an update yet. We're hoping we can get the Wizard out at the same time, so when we invalidate everyone's progress, there's at least a new character to play.
