pc building sim

I can barely look at screenshots of PC Building Simulator without sweating. Putting together my real PC was a singularly awful experience that I m not looking forward to replicating. I m the sort of person who could set fire to an office just by swapping out some RAM. Anyway! PC Building Simulator got an update today, introducing overclocking. Oh dear, I m sweating again. (more…)

PC Building Simulator - WiZZyWiGG
Hello PC Builders,

It has been a busy few weeks for the PC Building Simulator team but we have finally reached a point where we can release the initial version of our next big feature: Overclocking.

Please Note: This is a major feature update to the game and will be tweaked and improved in the coming weeks based on feedback and bug reports. Various art will be improved once functionality has been confirmed as working as expected.

Build v0.8.3.1 Highlights

Overclocking

With this update PC builders will be able to overclock their creations by adjusting areas such as CPU clock speed, CPU voltage, RAM speed, RAM voltage, GPU clock speed, VRAM clock speed and more.

Just like in real-life the aim with overclocking is to push the performance of your hardware to the maximum while maintaining system stability and balancing the heat generated from doing so. Be careful how much you push your hardware, if you push things too far you can break your overclocked components!

We have added a new PC app based on OCCT that will allow you to run a short (yes, this is shorter than the 3DMark time!) stress test of your overclocked hardware so let you know if the system is stable or not.

Overclocking things to know:
  • Overclocking is unlocked for CPUs at level 6 and GPUs at level 13 in Career Mode or right away in Free Build mode.
  • CPU and RAM settings are adjusted in the Bios which can be access via holding the DEL or F2 while booting a PC.
  • Enabling XMP in the Bios for RAM will auto clock your RAM if you don’t want to manually set values.
  • GPU settings are adjusted via a new PC app called GPU Tuner.
Pushing the CPU and RAM too far can result in the part breaking permanently. GPUs can not currently break.
  • Each purchased component has a variance in overclocking ability to simulate the silicon lottery.
  • Overclocked system stability issues can result in blue screens on a PC and CPUs will throttle back performance when overheating.
  • Jobs in Career do not currently request any overclocking features, this will change once the feature is complete.

Career Additions

The player level has been increased from 20 to 25 in this update to allow for 5 new story missions that will appear during these levels.

In addition, we have added random job support for both Dual GPUs and Water Cooling.

New Parts

Antec AIO Water Coolers

Kühler H2O K Series - K120 / 240
Mercury 120 / 240 / 360 RGB

NZXT Aer P 120mm /140mm Case Fans

SilverStone PS14 (Non-Windowed) Case

System Info Upgrade

This application has had an upgrade, if you have it running/open on a PC and run 3DMark it will now overlay information about your temperatures while the benchmark runs.

Hello PC Builders,

Apologies for the bugs some players have been experiencing since the big update last week, while we knew we had made some big changes to the game some of these issues we just never saw coming. Thanks to everyone who sent in save games and log files, as these have helped us fix up many of the issues for today's update.

The update today contains the following…

Build v0.8.1.1 Highlights

Save Game Improvements
To try and improve save game stability between versions and allow us to better diagnose save issues we have made some adjustments to the save game system:
  • A backup version of your save game is created when a new version of the game is detected - these won’t be visible in the save menu but will exist in the saves folder.
  • If an error occurs during loading a save game you will now receive a message telling you this (and stopping you from going any further) rather than allowing you to continue as normal and it being rewritten by autosave - this means when you send us a save game we can see the error being generated without the risk of it being lost due to being saved over.

CPU Air Cooler Rotation
Eagle eyed players may have noticed in pre-release videos there was an option to pick the orientation of an air cooler when installing on a CPU. This was disabled ahead of launch but has now been re-enabled to allow for further feedback and testing as we get quite a few requests about this!

New Parts

EVGA AIO Water Coolers
The EVGA CLC 120, 240 and 280 are now available to include in your builds!

Cryorig AIO Water Coolers
From Cryorig this update includes their A40, A40 Ultimate and A80 AIO coolers.

SilverStone Water Coolers
The TD03-LITE, TD03-SLIM, TD02-LITE and TD02-SLIM AIO coolers from SilverStone’s Tundra series are now available to build with.

Raijintek ORCUS 240 Water Cooler
If you like your RGB on your AIO coolers then the ORCUS 240 is going to be a must have in any build!

Raijintek IRIS 12 Case Fan
The 120mm IRIS 12 case fan includes full RGB support and pairs nicely with the ORCUS 240!

NZXT S340 Elite Case
Until now only the Hyper Beast version of the S340 Elite existed in the game but from today you will be able to build with the standard version in its Black, Black + Blue and Black + Red options.

Build v0.8.0 Highlights

New Partner - Antec

As announced earlier today we have officially welcomed Antec to the PC Building Simulator family so you can expect further parts from them in the future, the initial batch of products can now be found on our roadmap and from the update today you will be able to use the Antec DF500 case.

AIO Water CPU Cooling

All In One CPU water cooling has arrived! This update brings the initial implementation of support for AIO CPU water coolers to the game which includes CPU coolers from Cooler Master (MasterLiquid 120/240) and NZXT (Kraken M22/X42/X52/X62/X72).
There are further coolers on the way so as always take a look at our roadmap for future parts that will be appearing in the game.

Support for a brand new part type is a big feature and has meant updating all the cases in the game so there is a good chance you will bump into some bugs when using these new parts, please do continue to report any in the usual fashion so we can fix up any issues

New Cables

The internal PC cables of PC Building Simulator have well documented ‘issues’, these issues have been a thorn in the development teams side for as long as we can remember so we decided to overhaul their code as we had to get them to work with the water cooling parts anyway.
Functionality wise you will most likely not notice a difference, some previous issues will be fixed but there is just as much chance that new ones will occur but the difference now is we actually have a good way of fixing any future issues with cables.

The more interesting feature of this work is that we can now customise cables! So we have added over 100 new cable options to allow you to customise your builds even further.

Again, this is a major rework so please do report any bugs you have with this new feature.

AMD Ryzen 2 CPUs

AMDs 2nd generation Ryzen CPUs are now available to build with! This includes the Ryzen 5 Six Core 2600/2600x & Ryzen 7 Eight Core 2700/2700x variants.

Full Patch Notes:
  • New Case - Antec DF500.
  • New Case - SilverStone PS14.
  • New AIO CPU Water Coolers - Cooler Master MasterLiquid 120/240 & NZXT Kraken M22/X42/X52/X62/X72.
  • Rewritten Cable code - To allow us to fix issues moving forward.
  • New Cable Customisation Options - These can be selected by the new Cables menu in your inventory.
  • Internal cable connections now have their correct models.
  • New CPUs - AMD Ryzen 2nd Generation CPUs (Ryzen 5 Six Core 2600/2600x & Ryzen 7 Eight Core 2700/2700x).
  • Added RGB enabled GIGABYTE AORUS SLI Bridges when building a SLI machine with 2x compatible GIGABYTE GPUs.
  • Updated all cases to allow AIO CPU water coolers to be installed where compatibility allows.
  • The PC status window in build mode can now be toggled on/off with the ‘Tab’ key.
  • SLI/Crossfire support is now listed on GPU information in the shop and inventory.
  • Changed how the PC Parts section of inventory works so that you should no longer build up a stock of useless case parts throughout the career mode.
  • Compressed Air now has audio!
  • The Cooling category in the shop and inventory has now been split up into CPU Cooling and Case Fans categories.
  • Motherboards that support both Kaby Lake and Skylake CPUs in real-life will now do so in the game.
  • Your currently held item is now displayed on screen when working on a PC (this will get made prettier at a later date).
  • Fixed the issue where case fans rotated when removed.
  • Fixed the issue where case fans installed facing the wrong way.
  • Fixed the PSU cover on the DG-8 series installing in the wrong place on these cases.
  • Fixed an issue where HB SLI bridges would remove when removing a PC from the storage cupboard.
  • Fixed the missing ‘auto’ tag on autosaves when playing in any non-English language.
  • Fixed SLI/Crossfire bridges not appearing in the RL07 case.
  • Fixed being unable to swap an underpowered PSU on jobs that require PC’s to have more power.
  • Fixed various ‘Will it Run’ issues that should reduce the amount of requirements not met flags when using similar hardware to what is needed.
  • Fixed an issue with maximum allowed budget jobs where the total updated incorrectly.
  • Reduced the new email SFX a bit.
  • Updated GPU/CPU data from 3DMark.

As mentioned a lot in these notes there are many new things in this build, so even with our internal testing there is still a chance of more issues than we would like, but please do report any you find so that we can fix up the important ones as soon as we can.

What’s Next?

Bug fixing mostly for a little while, plus adding more AIO CPU Coolers. We also plan to add Spanish language support fairly soon.

Job types will also be expanded to allow for the most recent features (Dual GPUs/Water Cooling) to become part of objectives, more story type missions are also being worked on.

Design and planning of Overclocking has begun, while this is some way off we are looking forward to getting this up and running!

Happy Water Cooling Building!

PC Building Simulator - WiZZyWiGG
Hello PC Builders,

Another week, another update. The team has been working non-stop going through feedback and bug reports while continuing to move the game forward so we can develop the core features planned on our roadmap.

This update includes the following highlights:

New Languages

The following new languages are now included from this update: French, German, Russian, Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Brazilian Portuguese.

Further language options will be reviewed as we progress through Early Access and more will be added based on feedback and player statistics.

As we are still in Early Access there is likely to still be a few issues with these languages (text overlaps, strings still being in English etc.) but please do just report these as you would any other bugs.

Music Player Update

One of our most requested features since we launched has been ‘let us play our own music via the ingame music player!’ so with this update you can do just this.

The music player now allows you play the games soundtrack (which will expand in time), mp3 files locally on your (real) PC and even Internet Radio streams. There is a range of internet radio streams included by default but you can also add to and adjust this list via the txt file found in the \PC Building Simulator\Data\ folder.

Key Binding

We have added the ability to rebind the keys used in the game, you can find this option in the Options menu.
This should help anyone struggling with the default controls or just want more control over what keys they wish to use.

AMD RX Vega 56 & 64 arrive

The reference RX Vega 56 and RX Vega 64 GPUs from AMD have been added to the game with this update.

Full Patch Notes:
  • New languages - French, German, Russian, Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Brazilian Portuguese.
  • Updated Music Player - You can now play local mp3 files or internet radio streams via the ingame music player found on your PC.
  • Added the AMD RX Vega 56 & 64 GPU
  • Added the ability to rebind keys.
  • Updated 3DMark data for some GPU’s/configurations.
    #Discussions_QuoteBlock_Author
Since the Dual-GPU update it was clear that some configuration data related to SLI/Crossfire was off, we have worked with 3DMark to adjust a range of GPU data to bring things back in line closer to reality.
  • 3DMark results screen should now show both GPUs in the system.
  • Exposed Coolers Air Flow data in the Shop & Inventory
    #Discussions_QuoteBlock_Author
Since the Dual-GPU update people have been bumping into the blue screen error that relates to the GPUs overheating, this is usually due to poor cooling in the case but there was no way to know which fans were better so this helps with this issue.
The PAEAN case is a special exception, we still need to find a way to adjust cooling for open frame designs such as this.
  • Another fix to stop 0 score 3DMark jobs from appearing.
  • Added an additional calendar to the wall near your office PC.
  • Monitor cables have been pinned down a bit to stop them coming through the screens.
  • Pressing the 1,2 or 3 keys when trying to search in the inventory should no longer close it.
  • Prices have had their font size increased in the shop.
  • Made some changes that should hopefully mean players (real-life) GPUs aren’t being pushed the max when v-sync is disabled.
  • Changed (again) how refresh rates are handled by default to try and fix issues with them.
    #Discussions_QuoteBlock_Author
If you need to select a different refresh rate could you please do the following:
    • Right Click the game in your Steam library
    • Click Properties
    • Under General click Set Launch Options…
    • Enter -window-mode exclusive and click OK
This should re-enable the option to select a supported rate by your machine in the options menu.

What’s Next?

Water Cooling is the main feature everyone wants, including us, which is why this work has now begun. We are however keen to make it clear this is not a quick update to do as we have multiple things to change in the game to support this feature and have a lot of assets to create to support it. You should expect it to be a few weeks before this feature is ready to go live.

We of course will continue to fix issues and add other content while this feature is being developed.

Thanks again for all the support and please continue to keep posting your bugs and feedback in the usual places!

Happy Building!
