As the old summer adage goes, “sun’s out, guns out”—and there’ll be plenty of weapons-in-hand in the Arena! (Hopefully yours pointed at the enemy, and not vice-versa.) We’re celebrating 25 years of Quake in this update, so get ready for a rocket blast from the past with a retro map, classic weapon skins, and lots more—including new anti-cheat measures to keep the fighting fair!

UPDATE HIGHLIGHTS
New Map
  • THE DARK ZONE – The textures may be retro, but the gameplay is timeless. Return to one of the classic Quake multiplayer maps, DM6 – The Dark Zone.

Store Updates

New Client Options
GAME OPTIONS
  • Added NVIDIA Reflex Low Latency - Reflex Low Latency Mode aligns game engine work to complete just-in-time for rendering, eliminating the GPU render queue and reducing CPU back pressure in GPU intensive scenes. This delivers latency reductions above and beyond existing driver-only techniques, such as NVIDIA Ultra Low Latency Mode. Available in Game Settings. (Nvidia Maxwell, Pascal, Turing, or Ampere GPUs with R455 drivers required.)
  • Menu Framerate Limit - Added a max FPS Limit for while in the main menu. (Default 120, min 60, max 250)
  • Streamer Mode - Use the Main Menu Framerate Limit when minimized to maintain the stream's FPS quality.
HUD OPTIONS
  • Damage Number Summation - Damage numbers now show a total of recent damage dealt to a target, aggregating high rate of fire weapons into a combined damage dealt number. Select between Off, Damage Type (default), and All Recent Damage.
  • Crosshair Hit Color - Choose a crosshair color to flash when dealing damage. Must be enabled with "Crosshair Hit Color Enabled".
  • Crosshair Hit Scale - Players may now choose to scale their crosshair either larger or smaller when hitting a target.
  • Speedometer - Players may choose between "Off", "Below Crosshair", and "Below Portrait" to alter the HUD placement of the Speedometer.
  • Ability Info Position - Players may now choose to move the Ability Icon from the center of the screen and push it to either the LEFT or RIGHT side, useful for either players with centered weapons, or those who just wish to group this information near either the Health & Armor Vitals or the Ammo info.
CONTROL OPTIONS
  • Mouse Input – now choose between Raw Mouse or DirectX mouse input
  • Respawn - You may now change the default "SPACE" bind for issuing a respawn on the death screen.
AUDIO OPTIONS
  • HitBeep - Select the sound made when hitting a target. Choose between:
    • Off (no sound)
    • Damage Based (sound based on how much damage was dealt)
    • Single Sfx (play the base hit sound regardless of damage dealt)
New Anti-Cheat
  • We have added anti-tamper security methods and have taken actions to significantly reduce in-game cheating and exploits. This added level of protection will continue to strengthen over time.
  • We recommend that any users experiencing issues disable third-party software while playing; in particular, any software that attempts to integrate with our game by creating overlays or performs keyboard or mouse automations.
    • Some GPU “tuning applications such as Riva Tuner or MSI AfterBurner may cause compatibility issues. If you experience gameplay issues, please disable these applications while playing.
  • Test Signing is not supported. The game will not launch if Test Signing is enabled.

  • Fixes to prevent Ranger from falling out of the map when using the Dire Orb too close to the hole in the Heavy Armor wall

  • Removed the ability to place totems around the edges of the Heavy Armor pit, the edges of the Railgun pit, and behind the teleporters

The Molten Falls
  • Removed an out-of-bounds totem spot near Mega Health
Vale of Pnath
  • Increased the cooldown of the spawn near the Heavy Armor pillar to prevent it from being chosen as a valid option in quick succession

  • Heavy Champions now spawn with 75 AP instead of 100 AP, the same health & armor stack used by heavy Champions in all other game modes

  • Fixed his movement box height to prevent his head (and your view) from clipping through ceilings

In-game Display Names
The following display name rules have changed:
  • Names must be 4 or more characters
  • Names cannot have leading, consecutive, or trailing spaces
If your username doesn't meet the new requirements, it will prompt you to rename. These changes ensure that all player names will be searchable within Contacts and reduce cases of impersonation.

Winter has come, and it's brought a brand new Quake Champions update! This update includes our first ever ice-themed map, Exile; and a CTF version of The Longest Yard! There are even more presents under the Quakemas tree with new game modes, Season 9 Battle Pass rewards, and tons of balance updates!

NEW MAP: EXILE
"Only the dust-laden ice holds together these halls at the end of time. Only the jaundiced traces of their sole denizen etch and illuminate their walls."

The icy arena Exile lies within The Rift, the dark edge of the Dreamland where the Elder God known as The Lurching King now resides. Exile is available in Duel, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Clan Arena, Instagib, Unholy Trinity, and Hot Rockets.



NEW MAP: THE LONGEST YARD CTF
A remix on the classic, this mirrored teamplay version of The Longest Yard is now available in Capture the Flag mode!

CHAMPION MOVEMENT
We now properly enforce maximum speed caps for Champions both in the air and on the ground. Previously, speed caps only applied to Champions on the ground, but they could indefinitely go beyond their speed cap if they remained airborne via Rocket Jumps. We now still allow such similar bursts of speed from RJs to initially go over their maximum speed, but now those characters will have their air speed degrade down to the intended speed cap.

The largest impact of this change will be in CTF when some characters attempt to cross the map in seconds to either attack the flag, escape with the flag, or chase to retrieve the flag. In these situations you'll see that the Champions who can currently go above their intended max speed will now be somewhat kept in check.

CHAMPIONS
  • Anarki - Max speed 15.625 m/s (625 ups) to 16 m/s (640 ups)
  • Athena - Max speed 50 m/s (2000 ups) to 25 m/s (1000 ups)
  • Clutch - Max speed 20 m/s (800 ups) to 17.5 m/s (750 ups)
  • Slash - Max speed 20 m/s (800 ups) to 17.5 m/s (750 ups)
  • Sorlag - Fixed the body banking (A/D and W/S) animations that would cause her torso to rapidly shift position when attempting to change horizontal direction.

  • Strogg & Peeker - Max speed 20 m/s (800 ups) to 17.5 m/s (750 ups)

WEAPONS

Our Spring 2020 Update goes live today, Thursday, April 2, at 10:30 AM ET / 2:30 PM UTC. Quake Champions will be unavailable during this time for approximately 3 hours. Let's dive right into the notes!

BUILD HIGHLIGHTS
NEW GAME MODE: CLAN ARENA
  • 4v4 team-play found in Practice, Quick Play, and Custom Game
  • Eliminate the other team to win the round, win 10 rounds to win the match
  • Players spawn with all weapons and full ammo, no items spawn on the map!
  • Players do not drop items on death (shards, health, stroyent, weapon)
  • Players spawn at full stack for their Champion:

Anarki
  • Decreased the volume of the Anarki first person jump and move hoverboard sounds
Death Knight
  • Fixed fireballs so they now properly apply the DOT on impact
  • Lowered the fireball damage from 25 to 20 each
  • Changed DK firetrails so that they no longer give a DOT, but instead give damage when standing on the trail. Trail damage is 10 pts every 1 sec standing on the trail. Standing on more than one trail will result in 10 damage per trail
Slash
  • Increased the volume of the third person crouch sliding sound effects
Sorlag
  • Max speed cap reduced from 640 to 600 ups
  • Removed the hitbox cylinders from Sorlag's tail, to prevent unexpected or odd knockback
Strogg
  • Increased the volume of the third person crouch sliding sound effects
MAP UPDATES
Awoken
  • Extended an anti-totem domain to include an exterior wall outside of the map
Blood Covenant
  • Removed some spawns from Duel, one near Lightning Gun and one near Super Nailgun
Tempest Shrine
  • Added Duel support using the smaller TDM/DM version, but with the Rocket Launcher and Super Nailgun locations swapped
The Molten Falls
  • Added an anti-totem domain below the hallway between Railgun and the nearby Teleporter
  • Added anti-totem domain between Rocket Launcher and Mega Health on the outside route
Vale of Pnath
  • Fixed an out of bounds exploit at the secret Teleporter where players could stand/hide on some rocks
NEW CLIENT OPTIONS
  • Show Damage Offscreen - Display damage done off-screen at the edge or bottom of your screen
  • Damage Number Scale - Scale up the font size of the damage numbers
GAME UPDATES
  • Fixed the End of Match Delay that would either cause the match to quickly cut away before you could see the final frag, or allow someone to get a frag just after the timelimit or fraglimit were reached. Both now fixed
  • Fixed the Main Menu texture quality of all items added to the game since November 2018, they appear in highest quality regardless of Texture Quality settings (textures are streamed in as called)
  • Increased the size of the nail projectile model for improved visibility (their red glow is now more noticeable. This does not affect its hitsphere or likelihood to hit)
  • Fixed the round timer getting out of sync with the round start in round based modes
  • Round VO for Rounds 4-19+ added for game modes with an extended number of rounds
  • Attack & Defend was reverted back in both name and game rules to the original Slipgate. Because A&D was too close to Clan Arena, we felt it best to have these modes be unique and stand apart. If you liked the old Slipgate, rejoice. If you preferred A&D, please give Clan Arena a try
  • Pulsar Railgun FX fixed in third person (now green instead of blue)
  • Fixed “sound size” of the Mega Health to match the Heavy Armor (some noticed MH was harder to hear than HA despite having the same radius and volume)
  • Reduced the volume of the Q4 CONSTRUCTOR SNG first person hum
  • Removed death sound effect from elimination based modes
  • Glow effect on new attachments when they are first equipped in the customization menu
  • Fixed Custom Game game mode defaults for score and timelimit, so that you no longer have to remember to set their values
  • Updated all game mode icons to unify their design language
