And sometimes extra loot IN angry floors

Fantasy shopkeeping adventure Moonlighter has had a busy couple months since its launch in May. Not content to just let stock sit on the shelves, developers Digital Sun have been quick to bring in new goods and renovate its dungeons, and today’s update has been its largest yet. Among other things, the ‘More Stock’ update bulks up environment variety and offers additional rewards for those returning to already-cleared dungeons, expanding further on a formula which John greatly enjoyed.

▷ ▷ NEW FEATURES

100 new rooms!
We have added 100 more room patterns to the game! We’ve also introduced another brand new element to the mix: the puddles. They are going to poison Will in the forest, burn him in the Desert and electrify his hero-wannabe guts in the Tech dungeon. This new element has given us more possibilities to design new rooms. Poor Will... No worries, though - we have also added more rooms without puddles!

Special post-boss room
From now on, after defeating Boss in a dungeon - you can re-enter his chamber to find it crawling with monsters! This new room will provide an extra challenge - beat it quick enough to unlock all three chests. The chest timer will stop whenever you kill ALL the enemies. So, if you're a slowpoke - only one or two chests will be unlocked for you. Only true Heroes deserve the most handsome rewards!

About the chests themselves: each one is related to the kind of chest that you can find in each floor, so the first one will probably be a wooden chest or a silver chest. However, the second one will probably be a silver or a gold one! And - as you can already expect - the third one could even be the purple, magical one! This gives you different possibilities and motivation to go back to the dungeons that you've already finished.

Oh, and by the way: those chests have more loot than the standard ones that you normally find in the dungeons!

New armor skins
Now, every time you decide (and you should!) to upgrade piece of armor it will have a different aesthetic associated with the dungeon, also the armor icon will be different. Here you can see the preview of Tier 1 armor skin:

New visual effects for enchanted weapons
We’ve added new particle FX for enchanted weapons that are triggering whenever you use the weapon. The FX has 3 different levels that are associated with each enchantment level. So, the more enchanted weapon - the cooler it becomes!

On top of that, we’ve added a little glint effect that it is applied to the icon of an enchanted weapon inside the inventory, so you can identify enchanted weapons easier.

New in-game tutorials
We have added these scrolls that will appear whenever you upgrade your shop and and some kind of new feature appears. We’ve prepared these new tutorials for:
  • Decoration items (Shop level 2)
  • Wealthy customers (Shop level 2)
  • Quests (Shop level 3)
  • Crystal showcases (Shop level 3)
  • Shop Helper (Shop level 4)
Here’s an example of one of the tutorials:

DLC Backer Weapon
It is finally here: a special weapon we designed for Kickstarter backers (again: thank you SO much for supporting us back in the day)! It is a very unique Supporter Bow! What's very cool about it - is that Blacksmith can upgrade this weapon for you - so it won't become obsolete in the subsequent dungeons.

▷ ▷ QUALITY OF LIFE CHANGES
  • Adding Skip button in starting cutscene
  • Removed tourist bubble icon. Tourists and rich people work basically the same - so there is no point to differentiate them from the UI-standpoint.

Hello there, Merchants and Heroes!

We're bringing you a brand new patch (1.6) that we've called Time is Money - 'cause it is mostly focused on Shop and Village features. On top of that - we have also fixed a lot of other stuff so the overall experience should be even more enjoyable for everyone!

- - - MAJOR CHANGES - - -
  1. New Items' Popularity System!
We've received a lot of feedback about game's economy and decided to adjust that. This is one of the biggest changes introduced to our game so far - 'cause it really alters the general feeling of Moonlighter's economy. Popularity system now highly affects when people decide buy or don't buy items. Better be prepared to actively swap those items so your shop can prosper! Also, from now on, Rich and Tourist type of customers can buy from any place, not only the crystal showcases. We've also modified the crystal showcases themselves: every item you put there is going to have an increased popularity level and it's going to be protected from those pesky thieves!
  2. Last used price is now saved
Ok, we admit: that was kind of annoying. Every time you were putting a price for a new item - it always went back to zero until you sold it. This was also frustrating with thieves, because you could forget the price you used. Now, if you don't know the good price, the system will remember the last price you've set. Yay!
  3. Improved Horde Room
We have improved the animations for this room and it works slightly different. Now, for every "round" inside the Horde Room you will have to select: open the chest or keep fighting? So you won't be able to open all the chests anymore. We believe it adds a little bit more risk and spices up the experience.
  4. Buying multiple Potions
A highly requested feature, indeed! Now you can buy up to 99 potions at the same time from the Witch!
- - - FIXES - - -

Dungeon Fixes
  • Wanderer can no longer be spawned outside of the map
  • Wanderer no longer gets stuck on obstacles
  • Character is not going to get automatically teleported to next level of Dungeons right after all enemies in the room are killed
  • Wanderer icon will not be visible during boss battle
  • Tech Dungeon: Improved Death Generator behavior during fight
  • Forest Dungeon: Game no longer freezes in one specific room
  • No longer possible to exploit damage and attacks by switching weapons in the shop
  • Items sent home from the Dungeon do not disappear upon exiting the game
Shop fixes
  • Price of the second sold item was not updated in Notebook
  • Items from previous sale will no longer be displayed on sales summary if the game was quit before closing the shop
  • Fixed Soft lock on opening pause menu during tutorial
General fixes
  • Soft lock upon interacting with the Witch
  • Soft Lock upon crafting weapon/armor at the Blacksmith
  • [OS X] Game crash when character is enveloped by Slime and character's health reaches 0
  • It is no longer possible to get stuck inside Townboard or Witch's Wooden Hat
  • No longer possible to control character during credits
  • GUI does not appear during final cinematic
  • Missing Space between Will and GUI sections in controls
We're still working on more updates, of course - and some really big and cool ones are heading your way! And folks, as always, don't hesitate to contact us - to report any issues and share cool ideas! We really appreciate your feedback!

Thank you for your ongoing support!

Moonlighter

Developer Digital Sun has revealed that it's working on a sizeable amount of free new content for its wonderful shopkeeping-and-adventuring RPG Moonlighter, and there's an accompanying roadmap outlining exactly what 2018's remaining months will bring.

Moonlighter's first batch of new stuff arrives later this month in the form of the More Stock Update. This introduces over 50 new room patterns across the game's four dungeons (making for a total of almost 600 rooms), new art for enchanted weapons and armour, and new shop upgrade tutorials to give struggling players a helping hand.

That's followed at some as-yet-unspecified future time by the Adventure Update. This will see the arrival of a New Game + mode with a higher difficulty and increased challenge for experienced players wanting to play through again. It also brings new equipment based on mysterious technology, known as Dimensional Weapons and Amulets.

Moonlighter

The shopkeeping-RPG Moonlighter was released at the end of May and turned out to be pretty good: A "cute and casual" mashup of genres that trades depth and complexity for a more relaxing roguelike experience. We said in our review that it's "meant to be completed and set aside," but players will soon have reason to pick it up again, as developer Digital Sun unveiled a development roadmap teasing big plans for the rest of 2018.

The first update will add more than 50 new rooms spread throughout Moonlighter's four dungeons, improve the appearance of armor and enchanted items, and add more tutorials to better explain shop upgrades. After that, a New Game+ mode is planned, along with all-new Dimensional Weapons and Amulets. Third on the list are companions who will join you on your journeys, and the addition of custom game options that will enable players to set up more "diverse experiences." And finally, the Trouble Update, which will add new mini-bosses and item effects that the developers don't want to talk about yet.

All the updates will be free (there's apparently also some "Winter DLC" coming that's meant to be paid, but the message suggests that might not be completely locked down yet), and while there's no set schedule for release, the first is expected to arrive sometime this month and the last should be out around Halloween. And if all goes well, that won't be the end of it: The studio said it has more updates planned for 2019.

Moonlighter - Rufus Blackwood

Hello there, Heroes and Merchants!

We believe that a good adventure always requires a little bit of old-fashioned planning and - obviously - a map! A map that will lead you to your goal. Is there a treasure waiting at the end of the road? Perhaps a princess or a prince? A golden armor for your horse? You do you, we won’t judge - but we have prepared something else and very special: Moonlighter Development Roadmap for 2018!

Feedback that we have received from you so far has been - yes, pretty overwhelming - but also: beyond amazing! You guys have some crazy good ideas and guess what - we have some as well! And you know what always works best? Cooperation! So, we’ve collected your feedback and we have incorporated it into our development plan. Therefore, after many internal discussions, hours of research and drinking non-alcoholic beverages - we proudly present you Moonlighter Development Roadmap 2018:

Click here to see the full resolution

Excited? So we share that feeling! Let us give you a little bit more information about each milestone from the Roadmap. Not everything, though - we like to keep some secrets. Oh, and this should go without saying - but all the updates that you see on this Roadmap are going to be totally free! Still waiting for the full confirmation - the Winter DLC is supposed to be paid DLC so we have to be careful with wording.

- - - ROADMAP DETAILS - - -

More Stock Update

Our first update will add more than 50 new rooms distributed all over the four dungeons, making a total of almost 600 room patterns available! It’s also going to improve the look of armors and enchanted items, plus we plan to add some additional small help/tutorials to explain different shop upgrades better.

Adventure Update

New Game+ lets players start the whole game again with increased difficulty level. This update will also bring brand new Dimensional Weapons and Amulets, equipment based on some mysterious technology.

Companion Update

Feeling lonely in the Dungeons? Worry no more! Choose a companion and bring it with you on the adventure! Each companion will be a little bit different, offering various skill sets and looks. On top of that we’re going to introduce the Custom Game: a set of options that will allow you to to modify some game parameters to create diverse experiences.

Trouble Update

Put your skills to the test by battling some brand new mini bosses! We’re not going to tell you anything more about them - ‘cause we want those enemies to surprise (and brutally defeat) you during your adventures. Yup, we are mean like that sometimes. We are also going to add some new Item Effects - boosting game’s variety. This update should arrive somewhen around Halloween - so we’re hoping to bring you some spoOOoky stuff, too!

That should cover the basics! However, as said before - we don’t want to spoil everything - so we can keep you on the edge of the chair while you wait for upcoming content! And yes - we have more updates planned for 2019!

But the best things in the world are those which we can share with others. That’s why, from now on, you can listen to Moonlighter’s OST on Spotify. And if you prefer other platforms, it is additionaly available on Bandcamp - where you can also buy it to support David and boost his awesome creativity!

Moonlighter - Rufus Blackwood

Hello there, fellow Citizens of Rynoka!

It's update time! You've sent us A LOT of feedback. This helped us not only with bug-elimination but also with improving the game itself - so we are very thankful for your help!

- - - GENERAL PATCH NOTES - - -
  1. Key binding improvements (some extra freedom and mouse button support). We might continue to improve this, let us know if this helps a little.
  2. Bug fixing, as much as possible as soon as possible after our release. There will still be bugs but we will keep working, your feedback has been super helpful. Thank you!
  3. We've added a special logging system to the game that will allow you to send us more information when something crazy happens, so we can find and smash those dirty bugs.
  4. Other minor improvements (mostly following requests from you and/or our own ideas)

- - - IMPROVEMENTS - - -
  • Key binding now allows for independent binding of each key separating Will actions and GUI actions on both Keyboard, Mouse Buttons and Controllers
  • There is a “default key binding” available
  • Now sleep is activated by holding the action button
So - yeah. We've listened to your feedback and now you can totally redefine your controls the way you like it. No limitations - as we're all different and we like to play games our own way. However, we have a layout to propose, that you may want to give a try. This is a special layout loved by our QA department and here it is:

Will section
Main Attack - LMB (Left Mouse Button) Pendant Shortcut - F Secondary Attack - RMB (Righ Mouse Button) Inventory - MMB (Middle Mouse Button) Change Weapon - Q
GUI section
Interact - LMB (Left Mouse Button) Close - RMB (Righ Mouse Button) Back - MMB (Middle Mouse Button)

Of course - that's a layout that we really like. Feel free to suggest yours, though! We'd love to hear your opinion - so for the next patch we could maybe include it as a preset - ready to be selected by other players!

- - - BUG FIXES - - -

As far as we know - we solved below issues completely - but if some of them still persist - please let us know.

Critical fixes:
  • Solved several problems with closing the shop mechanics
  • Problems closing the main menu after using pendant
  • Several problems related to quests givers
  • General memory leak related to something called “materials” that might be behind several other issues.
  • Not dropping welding rods (achievement blocker)
  • Issues related to buying upgrades for Will's shop and other shops

High priority fixes:
  • Possible softlock when killing final boss
  • Getting stuck inside the town board
  • Soft lock when dying inside slime (nice one!)
  • Clone Items exploit
  • Soft lock in pre-menu when opening pause menu
  • Forest: Player able to place spinning mushroom into obstacles
  • Customer entering the shop when everyone else is leaving (it’s a free town!)
  • Hawker’s items not decreasing the probability of thieves.
  • Visual glitch after upgrading weapon.
  • Vase still remaining as an obstacle after being destroyed
  • Desert: Patrol Golem freezes in place upon re-entering room
  • Golem Dungeon: Player can open inventory and spend money on pendant before tutorial
  • Store opening/closing text switched in German
  • Character disappearing after using the merchant emblem
  • Font problem: no umlauts
  • Chest in shop gets blocked when interacted directly before shop closing
  • After entering Desert II weird things were happening (yeah, this is a vague one!)
  • Game was starting always with the V-sync option on
  • Soft lock upon placing teleport directly above secret rooms abyss

Avarage & low priority fixes:
  • Tutorial showing WASD even if rebinded
  • Wandered killing the player during the animation entering a boss

That's all the changes and fixes we've managed to pack into this update. We hope they will improve your overall experience with the game. More updates are coming in the future. As always - don't hesitate to contact us to report issues and share ideas. We're here for you!

Thank you for your ongoing support!

It took a little while to get going, but goodness me I’m hooked on Moonlighter now. Take a good dose of rogue-lite action-RPG, add in permanence of equipment, and then delicately smother in a shopkeeping sim. It’s a game about raiding dungeons at night, then working in the days to sell the loot from your store. (more…)
