Train Valley 2 - flazm
Hello everyone! As you surely know, Train Valley 2 (and its predecessor in the series, Train Valley) is a game inspired by the history of railroads, but not exactly a historical game. We have tried to capture the essence and spirit of every historical period and its iconic locomotives, but we have taken some artistic liberties in the process. However, we think that all our players here might be interested in taking a sneak peek behind the curtains and discovering the beautiful machines that inspired locomotives in Train Valley 2. Today we start a series of blog posts where we talk about the historical counterparts of the locomotives included in the game. Enjoy the ride!

1st Generation: the Golden Steam era (1850-1910)
We have called this first generation “the Golden Steam era” because these were the years of the expansion of the railroad. Although locomotives were invented decades before this period (and steam machines much earlier than that), the first railways were not built until the 20s. It took some time for enthusiastic engineers to crisscross the lands with their railroads, but eventually trains started moving around people and goods, changing the face of the world (literally and figuratively speaking) forever. By 1850 they had become not just a means of transportation, but a symbol of progress, science, change – a promise of wealth and freedom for thousands of people who dreamed of jumping on one of these trains to start looking for a new life.

The Jupiter
The first locomotives we drew inspirations from comes from this era: the beautiful machine officially called Central Pacific Railroad #60, a 4-4-0 steam locomotive. But best known as the Jupiter, it became famous for being the first locomotive to meet at the Promontory Summit in Utah during the historical Golden Spike ceremony that celebrated the completion of the First Transcontinental Railroad, which crossed the United States from East to West. As you can see below, it features 4 leading wheels and 4 driving wheels (that’s what the 4-4-0 numbers stand for), and a magnificent modernist design that, for today’s standards, makes it look almost fairytale-like. This locomotive was in service until 1901, when it was sadly scrapped – the picture you can see below (taken from Wikimedia) comes from the replica in display at the Golden Spike National Historic Site.

(Photo from Wikipedia)

Our in-game counterpart is this little friend here. It keeps its toy-like aspect, like the mental picture that we all have when we think of old trains from the Wild West era. You can easily imagine outlaws trying to aboard it, right? Rest assured, you won’t have to worry about robberies in Train Valley 2! Our first locomotive features the Jupiter’s characteristic big conic chimney and its frontal lantern, although the red pilot (cowcatcher) looks more like Jupiter’s sister engine, Leviathan., come to think of it, we don’t have a special nickname for it… Why don’t you help us choose one? Leave us your suggestions in the comments section!

In the next post of this series we will talk about the second (1-2) and third (1-3) locomotives of the Golden Steam Era.
See you soon, friends!
Stay tuned! :tv2conductor:

Hello everyone! Welcome to the new issue of Choo-Choo Weekly digest! Probably you have already seen our last rainbow update? We were happy to know that it was reflected in new workshop maps! And by the way we have a two winners this week! Intrigued? Let's go!

What if a level could be a beautiful painting and a nice experience at the same time? Please meet an ethereal "Rainbow Dreams" by @Sugarstar:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1628216577 It's amazing how a simple alternative goal (earn 600K) can significantly change the gameplay! Productions located exactly the way they block tracks and force you to build bridges. Simple short map giving you both aesthetic enjoyment and nice challenge! Featured!

Do you know that tunnels keep stories and ready to tell it everyone who have a patience to listen. Want to discover one of them? Try a new map by @Gemanera: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1630304485 Slow trains, lack of money in the beginning of the level, expensive tunnels necessary to move on. You will feel yourself a detective unraveling the tangle of evidences, moving from one room of old mansion to another. Don't forget to turn on the light! Great job @Gemanera! Definitely featured!

There are levels challenging your endurance! If you like marathons a new map by @Vulcon is right for you! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1627528826 A strict beauty of geometry in the heart of this level. It is playing with heights forcing you to juggle bridges and tunnels. High speed trains and fast productions requires a focus and planning. You will have to seriously think over the sequence of bridges construction to get to the right factory at the right time! Try to beat it in 45 minutes or even challenge the current record by @Yokuyin (33:41). Anyway this great puzzle will help to form some neural connections in your brain! As an exception we want to send 5$ gift card to @Vulcon for this map and his dedicated work last weeks! Congratulations!

And the winner is the second entry of our workshop debutant @domgilvary:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1625659466
Very unusual puzzle dealing with difference between trains capacity and number of goods required. And of cause you will face an extra obstacles: do not stop trains, avoid crashes, do it in 30 minutes. Do you think Dark Souls needed perfect timings? Try this! Be ready to press restart button several times before the level would be conquered (have I mentioned Dark Souls already?). But in the end of the day you will be absolutely happy! Well done @domgilvary! 10$ gift card is yours this week!

Have you already tried the level editor? Workshop is waiting! :tvvagon::tv2car::tv2loco:

Hello everyone! Here is a hotfix to our recent update. Unfortunately the last game build caused problems with progress saving (connected to migration from .net 3.5 to .net 4.0 in Unity engine). This hotfix should solve the issue.

Bugs fixed:
- Problems with progress.

[UPD] Looks like if the progress was rewritten in the last version it would be lost. If not - it should return. Unfortunately we can do nothing with lost progress. The only advise here - to run the game with "-open-level 30" parameter. It will not return stars but all levels would be available.

Sorry for inconvenience. Keep us updated!
Stay tuned! :tv2conductor:

Hello everyone! We are moving toward the release. And this update will be very colorful! Now water surface can change colour. To do it add a water object and set a hex colour code in the "WaterColour" field. If you don't know where to get color codes just google "hex color codes" or visit a site like this https://www.color-hex.com/.
Other feature is pack of animated animals. Hope it will also help to make your maps a bit more live.

Features added:
- Water with custom color.
- Animals models.

Probably you want to ask us: "Is it all? What did you do all this time, lazy pants?!" Well, we are doing a lot of interesting stuff here, but all this content relates to the last 20 levels. We really want to show you what we are working on right now, but it will spoil the surprise. Thanks for your understanding and patience!
Meanwhile we are looking forward to see your workshop maps with red lava, green swamps and black oil (or with some other unexpected liquids)!
And of cause if you face some problems in this build - let us know. We are here to help!

Stay tuned! :tv2conductor:

Hello everyone! It is a middle of January and it is time to write a to-do list for a new year. To clean a desktop? Start visiting a gym? Maybe to create your first map in TV2 level editor?
Think about it while we are offering you a set of best levels of this week from authors who have already started to delete cases from their lists. All aboard!

What associations do you have with a phrase "Orange and Purple"? An expensive painting from a gallery of modern art? An apricot-plum smoothie in a hipster's cafe? Not half! It is a new level from @h2onik: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1620276091 Two sities in a valley surrounded by mountains and one more on the other side of misterious black canyon. Maybe it is a dry riverbed or a hole of giant earthworm? Who knows. Taking into account a tiny start-up capital you will have to deal with vast amount of resources and goods, build a new city and at least two bridges. It is a great puzzle for 20-30 minutes of your time! Featured!

What is hidden in earth layers beneath our cities? Maybe that hill is actually a last refuge of the ancient giant? It is the main theme of the new level by @angryxpeh called "Electric Grave": https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1619387027 In this map you will have to get to new productions using a tunnels. And it can be tricky in a multilevel landscape. Locomotives of the first age, prohibition to remove any object and train crashes restriction. All these factors can cause a several restarts before you will entirely complete the level. But it worth trying! Great job @angryxpeh! Featured!

And the winner of this week is well known workshop author @Gemanera with level called "Game of Gates": https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1620303611 Imagine a picturesque valley with two cities decided to build a wall of bureaucracy, excise and duties. It can be a perfect scenario for a customs officials, but it's a nightmare for products suppliers and importers. But who said it would be easy? To complete this level you need to perfect your micromanagement skills. Do not forget to earn a tidy sum of money for a new city and fulfill it's demands. Small advise: try to focus on some certain area first and then move further. Wish you luck and patience!
@Gemanera gets a 10€ gift card and our congratulations! Great job!

We are having a lot of fun playing all the published levels! It is a pleasure to see our old friends and a new names among workshop authors! @striker700, @Vulcon, @yaroslav4tv, @unclekrusty, @Hugo, @glen, @domgilvary, @thomas - you are doing good! Keep up great job! A bit of polishing and maybe you will be the winner of the next week! Or maybe the genius is sleeping inside someone reading these words right now? Try to open TV2 level editor this evening. At least it is fun! Remember your year has already started! ;)

Stay tuned! :tvvagon::tvvagon::tvloco:

Hello engineers! And welcome to the first Choo-Choo Weekly digest of 2019. First week of the year brought us a lot of interesting maps! And we will to show you best of them! Hold on tight!

How to finish the year 2018 and meet the year 2019 correctly? Playing a new map from our regular author @h2onik: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1609489744 A canyon between two cities with customs makes it a bit difficult, but it is still a really relaxing and enjoyable level. Excellent choice for calm evening with candles! Featured! By the way, you should definitely follow @h2onik to keep an eye on new maps from this talented creator!

The next entry is a new work by @Aphanasiy called "$Townname$ Supplier map": https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1611069337 Glory to Astorzka Berland! Your help is needed to mayor of the city. The situation is difficult taking into account corruption in customs and a hole in the budget. But sometimes you just need to wait by the river... Good job @Aphanasiy! Featured!

Meadows, mountain landscapes, a cup of hot cocoa. Sounds like a perfect vacation somewhere in Alps? Try a new "Mountainland" level by @Gemanera: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1613410560 Here you will have to deal with monopoly. Not a cardboard game but a real disgusting monopoly of one rich city surrounded by mountains and taking advantage of it. A large number of industries, interesting logistics, this level can challenge your brain! Definitely featured!

And the winner of the week is "IKARUGA" by @Alphrost: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1610344239 This is perhaps one of the most difficult levels in the last few months. Everything is against you here: a multilevel landscape, productions scattered around and tricky tunnels system! Add here a fatal consequences of wrong choices and voila! IKARUGA will blow your mind! I warned you!
10$ steam gift card goes to Japan this week! Congratulations @Alphrost! おめでとうございます!

Train Valley 2 - flazm
Hello everyone! Here comes a new issue of "Choo-Choo Weekly"! Let's check the portion of featured levels. The last in 2018! All aboard!

Usually there are dozens of ways to complete a level. But @h2onik in the new level named "Three Ways" says that there are only three of them. Well, there is only one way to find out. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1607990133 Cities and key productions are located on different shores separated by water and... customs. This pleasant and relaxing level is taking 3rd place of our weekly top! And you don't need to fill a single customs declaration to play it! Featured!

Want to check how the wall of Mr. Trump on mexican border could look like? It is a main theme of new level from @The Good, The Bad and The Dudley called "Rio Grande": https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1604794032 Level looks gorgeous and contain a certain amount of humour. But you are not going to laugh playing it, at least before the end of the level. Very creative level from maestro @Dudley! Definitely featured!

And the winner of this week is @Gemanera with very french level called "Food Food Food"! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1603471615 A new touristic season have just begun and cities need a lot of food. But to get this food we need to send a lot of gold bars to the customs. Excellent level with multilevel landscape. You will have to think twice before each and every step. And it was the first map using customs object. Congratulations @Gemanera! You have won the last weekly contest of the year and 10€ gift card! Bravo!

Happy New Year! Hope it was a great year for everyone of you! Because it was fantastic time for us! And one of the reasons is you - our community. 352 levels uploaded in workshop already! Just think about this number. It is 10 times bigger than number of official campaign levels. More than 60 maps were featured. These levels are really hi-quality entries, that definitely worth your attention!
You brings us so much motivation to move on and keep our quality standards high! So thank you very much for being our players, our co-authors and a part of our friendly train family! You rock! All the best in New Year! :tv2conductor:

Train Valley 2 - flazm
Hello everyone! Hope your holidays are great and you've got great presents. Because we have something interesting for you as well! Our next update is dedicated to new game mechanics and new object. Please meet the Customs! The concept is pretty simple. You need to deliver some certain product to the Customs (can be chosen in level editor) and as far as it would be "processing" the way through will be open. In our humble opinion this mechanics opens broad opportunities and allows new combinations with existing elements of the game. We are looking forward to see how you integrate it in your new maps!
Full list of changes in this update is following:

Features added:
- Customs.
- Performance revision. Game should consume less resources and work faster.

Bugs fixed:
- "Safe area" frame was hidden after publishing a level.
- Productions icons located in the left side of the screen were invisible on level preview image.
- Level can be started with spacebar on briefing screen.
- A number of minor issues.

Please note that our main goal right now is the full release of the game. The less bugs or features you see in the updates list - the more time is invested in new productions, new mechanics and new campaign levels.
Also that Customs feature was pretty tricky. We already fixed dosen of bugs connected with it. Please let us know if you find some other issues. We are here to help as always.

And yes we are looking forward to see how your creative mind will use this new object in your new levels! Monthly and weekly contests are waiting for winners! :tv2logs::tv2oil::tvhook:

Hello everyone! Do you hear a bells on the street? The smell of the Christmas tree, the crisp sound of snow under your feet? Christmas is all around us! Come closer to the fire, warm your hands and grab our festive issue of "Choo-Choo Weekly"! There is a lot of interesting inside!

Everyone knows how does it feel then you are really waiting for something. Counting days and crossing them off on the calendar every evening. Perhaps this was the idea behind "A Very Special Advent Calendar" level by @Gemanera: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1595125286 The level seems very simple at first glance, but you have to sweat a lot to get 5 stars! A complex chain of resources and factories will force you to take a notepad and work out a logistics plan. Good job @Gemanera! Defiantly featured!

In the next level, we are moving from the snow-covered cities to the hot desert. We need to satisfy both oil producers and archaeologists in this new work of our well known author - @Shadow (the winner of the first TV2 contest) https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1596065270 Well, this levels is not for claustrophobes. But lack of space and multilevel landscape brings a really nice challenge to tracks placing. It is a hi-quality relaxing map. And if I am not mistaken, the author planning to make a series of such maps. May the force be with you, @Shadow! Shaking the sand out of the shoes and looking forward the sequels! Featured!

And the winner of this week is @glyinderwust, with a very festive level “Christmas Tree” - directly from a postcard. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1593878327 Author ingeniously uses the landscape and new workshop objects, creating really beautiful map. Add here challenging puzzle with unobvious sequence of productions, fast timing (about 10 -15 minutes) and you get a perfect Xmas cocktail! A well-deserved first place and a $10 gift card going to Russia this week! Congratulations @glyinderwust!

And we are wishing you Merry Christmas! All the best to you and your loved ones! :tvmachinist:
Stay tuned! We have a couple of presents for your till the end of the year! :tvloco:
