The grim effects of the Steam Summer Sale are finally wearing off, and we’ve got a bunch of new entries this week! Along with, of course, the usual hoary old guard of dreary regulars. So hold my hand as I guide you through the most exciting article of your life.
Crytek's atmoshpheric multiplayer swamp horror Hunt: Showdown is free to try this weekend on Steam.
Hunt: Showdown, which launched on Steam early access earlier this year following several months in closed alpha, is a moody, first-person affair, blending elements of PvE and PvP into a single, compelling premise.
As each match begins, teams of either solo or duo bounty hunters are set loose across gloomy, monster-infested Louisiana swampland, all with the same objective: to be the first to locate and eliminate a particularly large, especially unpleasant hellbeast.
The other> game about hunting monsters, Hunt: Showdown, is currently holding a free trial weekend inviting all and sundry to trudge through swamp while fending off beasties and their fellow hunters. Having spent yesterday evening in a river, weekend swamptime sounds just the ticket. I’ve heard promising things about Hunt but been waiting until it properly launched before diving it but… ah, gwan, I’ll install this. The trial ends on Sunday evening, so get your swampskates on if you too are curious about Crytek’s PvPvE supernatural FPS.
Hunt: Showdown, Crytek's game of competitive supernatural big game hunting, is free to play for the weekend on Steam—and the weekend has already begun.
It hasn't actually begun, obviously, this is only Thursday, but the Hunt: Showdown freebie is live now. Just pop over to the Steam page, click "Play Game" button, and... play the game. You've got until 10 am PT/1 pm ET on August 13 to squeeze in as much monster-hunting as you can, and collect some of the half-dozen new Steam trading cards, if that's your thing.
The latest update to Hunt: Showdown, released earlier this week, also added new weapons, consumables, traits, and a new tool to the game, brought "accolades" to the Summary Screen, and made the usual array of fixes and changes. South American servers were rolled out at the same time, which should make things considerably better for gamers in that part of the world.
Last but not least, Hunt: Showdown is on sale on Steam for 20 percent off—that's $24/£21/€24—until February 13.
