Summer is upon us! (or cold cold winter for our Southern Hemisphere friends). And with that arrives the Dinosaur Tycoon Update. We have some fun features in this update, let’s get to it.
Update
Dinosaur Tycoon
New Dinosaurs
New Fences
Campaign Missions now in Custom Mode
Color & UI Improvements
Little Rest
Dinosaur Tycoon
Dinosaur Tycoon is a new challenge mode that has been added to the game. Dinosaur Tycoon requires you to achieve a Park Appeal of 50000 and have 300 guests. The game in this mode is also much more difficult, with higher prices for supplies and the needs of your dinosaurs being more demanding. There is an achievement associated with this challenge. You can find this mode in the Customize section, under the Mode dropdown.
New Dinosaurs
The Parkasaurus dino family has just become bigger! Each dino family in the game now has a new dinosaur joining the team. New dinos added to the game include:
Diplodocus
Euoplocephalus
Coelophysis
Pachycephalosaurus
Sinoceratops
Hesperosaurus
Here is the entire new family fighting for some reason:
New Fences
We had always wanted to add new fences that could also serve as interesting decoration pieces within the park. This was the result; new fences!:
Rock Fence The first fence ever created by humankind! (this is likely not true)
Hedge Fence If you think a hedge can’t stop a dinosaur have you ever tried to run through one of these???
White Fence A perfect white picket fence to be smashed by your dinosaurs!
Campaign Missions now in Custom Mode
There was a real interest in having the Campaign Missions as stand-alone maps where players could mess around and just enjoy certain map layouts. Now in the Custom mode you can select Sandbox, then pick any Mission from the World Map dropdown. Play Toronto to infinite!
Color & UI Improvements
The saturation of the game was toned down to what we think is a much nicer look. In addition, we fixed some annoying UI issues, such as UI notices piling on top of each other. (I GET it, we’re out of food already Parkasaurus).
Studio Update
Friends! The two of us that form Parkasaurus are going to be working on a new exciting little project, but won’t be able to talk about it till next year. This means we will only be working on Parkasaurus bug updates for the remainder of the year. As always, we aim to be as transparent as possible with you and look forward to sharing and hanging out on the Steam forums, Discord and Twitter. 😊
Thank you for all your community suggestions, bug reports and support. There many ways to help:
Follow us on Twitter, hang in Discord, post about us on reddit
Tell your favorite streamers to play our game
Most importantly, love your animals with all your heart
Hello friends! We have some exciting updates to Parkasaurus that I would love to share with you. All of these new additions to the game have been player requests! We do listen, sometimes. 😊
Update:
Realistic Mode
Undo Feature
Performance
Cool Walkways
Bugs
Realistic Mode
Believe it or not, some players are not in love with our derpy dinos. For them – we have now added a REALISTIC toggle on the front menu to change your dinosaurs into a more “realistic” texture. (sorry, no feathers!) (This is just an OPTION, not default) Check out these good looking dinos:
And yes – if a dino has a glow as a trait we show this as embedded gems.
Undo Feature
Did you know a lot of tycoon simulations do not have an Undo option? Well, nothing is too good for our players! (seriously, tell other people about us…). I personally find the Undo function really helpful when building fences!
This is also helpful with terrain changes:
Keep in mind that not ALL actions can be undone. For example, moving buildings cannot be undone. Sorry!
Performance
It seems that there was a lot of junk kicking under the hood of the game. We optimized, poured some potions together, and did some more optimization of our navigation mesh and animation system. What that means for you is an increase in performance – especially in larger parks.
Cool Walkways
Alright so this is not a new feature – I just wanted to share with you some cool walkway parks that have been created by our players. So. Cool.
Bugs
We fixed a LARGE number of bugs. One of the most notorious bugs that we fixed was terrain “popping” when placing items. This often led to a flattening or raising of terrain when undesired. Look, now you can place your items near the edge of the park without fear of the terrain popping out (and then dinos escaping)!
Full Release Notes: Version 1.20 -Realistic alternate dinosaurs -Undo system implemented with Ctrl+Z(Not all actions are undoable) -MASSIVE performance upgrade affecting all areas of the game -Many localization fixes -Better looking long grass -Fixed Made picking up employees easier along with a button on the employee pane for quick picking up -Fixed Walkways in exhibit were not walkable in fps mode -Fixed some items causing the terrain to flatting next to it -Fixed If your entire park is being seen as an exhibit because it's closed off from the entrance, you can place an info or science building to fix this -Fixed Overhaul on performance of overview window and sorting -Fixed tooltips being cut off -Fixed ground tiles showing up black -Fixed made some images language agnostic -Fixed deleting info booth leaving UI on screen -Fixed Missions will now count dinobook retroactively -Fixed Guests pay at night upgrade was not always working -Fixed Resetting ship parts did not reset the free eggs upgrades -Fixed Inconsistent portal info about digging stats when loading a game -Fixed Employee View button would open up on guests -Fixed Auto Assign button would sometimes not show up in overview screen -Fixed Snow appearance
Holidays have arrived! (For some of us, others still have to work. ☹ )
A reminder: this Holiday season might be tougher than usual for people; so please take the effort to reach out to friends and family through email, txts, video calls, anything! We all can do a bit more caring & empathy and a lot less anger.
The two of us at Washbear have had a crazy year (who hasn’t?) with the launch of Parkasaurus. We have some surprises planned with the game and company for 2021. Exciting. With that said, we added a little holiday cheer for this most recent update.
Update:
Holidays Toys
Holidays Store Items
Language Fixes
Holiday Toys
And you thought it was a problem when that cat got to the Christmas Tree? How about a little back scratcher for your dino best friend.
The best part about getting your dino a present is that they’re happy with just an empty box!
Although sometimes when you’re just a small fry it is easier to just push:
Holiday Store Items
So Rufus helped volunteer at the mall as Santa’s little elf…
Even dinos need a little eye protection on the ski slopes.
Language Fixes
For various boring reasons, a few of our languages were very poorly translated. In this patch, there should be major improvements for Chinese (simplified), French, and Japanese! Thanks for your understanding.
Happy Halloween! This is one of our favorite holidays and sadly trick o’ treating might be a little different this year. I just want to introduce new players (and a few old) to some of our in-game Halloweeny features.
Reminders:
Ghouly Guests
Pumpkin Toy
Halloween Hats
Ghouly Guests
Check out the Gem Store at night to buy your own Scary Pumpkin to invite an entire new crowd; Vampires, Zombies and Ghosts. Here’s the thing, Zombies love balloons, and Ghosts love dinosaur gazing. Who knew?
Pumpkin Toy
Smashing pumpkins in real life is a such a mess, how about you let your dinos smash for you? Toy balls are out, pumpkin tossing is in.
Halloween Hats
We all know the true meaning of Halloween is dressing up in scary, hilarious, and weird costumes. Your dinosaurs want in on the fun – so check out the range of Halloween hats you can find in the Hat Store at night. Let your dino best friends pretend to be a witch, or maybe a space-dino.
Try and have a fun Halloween, and tweet / discord post @ us any pets or kiddos in dino costumes; we'd love to see them!
On occasion we become so busy that we forget to fully explain a new feature that has gone into the game – today we’re chatting Exhibit Themes.
You will notice the Exhibit Pane has a new tab called Theme. Here you choose from a variety of Themes described below. Themes are separate from an exhibit Biome so there are a lot of different exhibit combinations that can be created. Each theme has a list of specific requirements in order to activate the theme’s bonuses.
Each Theme has a cool in game effect! For example, in the building video below of an Eden Theme your exhibit receives a standing rainbow!
We remove any viewable fences as required by the Eden Theme and build the final Eden Tree. Hello rainbow!
Keep in mind the main feature of each exhibit is the Theme Item which is usually expensive. Here is a list of all the themes:
Prehistoric
Secure
Organic
Eden
Spooky
Magical
Check them out below!

Be safe friends and try to be kind to each other! Taky & Smashlore
First off – the two of us at Washbear just wishing our friends all the best who are caught up in the terrible wildfires. ☹
This update touches on a few exciting tidbits of information:
PAX Indie Showcase
Key Bindings
Patch Notes
PAX Indie Showcase
Hurray! Parkasaurus was selected as one of the PAX Indie Showcase finalists. That is pretty cool, especially since we have always loved going to PAX as attendees! We can’t thank the community enough for their continued support in getting Parkasaurus to where it is today! Check out their site: https://online.paxsite.com/indie
Key Bindings
I had mentioned this in a previous update but just wanted to give a little more detail about how to change the key bindings for Parkasaurus. First, go find this file:
The “user” is usually the name of your profile on the computer. From there you can open the Keys.ini and see the current game bindings. Feel free to change these as you please!
Note:
Ensure a key binding exists for only 1 control otherwise the game might get confused
If you leave a binding blank, ie. "" the controls will revert to the game default
