Trailmakers - Bojangle
Hey Trailmakers!

This is just a small "hotfix" for the Perfect Pitch update that fixes a handful of crash bugs we became aware of, and fixed the loophole that allowed you to use mark up language in in game user names and server lists.

Work is progressing well on the 1.3 update and we hope to have more to share about that soon™️!
Trailmakers - stidsholt

Welcome to the Perfect Pitch Update!

The trails are alive with the sound of music!
But the new Tone Generator block is not the only great addition to Trailmakers in this update. We have made a ton of improvements to the builder, reworked the bullet system, and added some highly requested features to modding. Check out the details below, and stay tuned for the next update to Trailmakers which we’re sure will make a… splash…

General
  • Bullet/Cannon Rework - Bullet points with points about bullets
We have done a lot of work trying to improve the cannons and their bullets in Trailmakers. We mainly set out to do this because the old bullet system had many performance issues. These are the main changes we have made:
    • Bullets from the Small Cannon no longer have a homing effect.
    • Added a bit of spread to the bullets trajectories.
    • Added a clear physical impact when the bullets hit.
    • Bullets fly faster.
    • Bullets from the Small Cannon drop less in their trajectory (less gravity if you will).
    • Reduced the recoil of the Small and Tiny Cannon.
    • Fixed a lot of cases where you could hit yourself with bullets when flying and spinning etc.
    • Significantly reduced the bandwidth used so you can have a ton more bullets in the game without lag.
    • And of course… we have added a brand new cannon - the Tiny Cannon.
  • Mod Support Changes
We have listened to the feedback from the modding channel on our Discord and made a lot of improvements and additions. These include:
    • To exemplify the improvements we have done to modding, we have made an example mod you can try. It’s called “Trackmaker mod” and you can use it to build a race course with a start and finish line, tires outlining the track, a timer that triggers when you start and finish, and a save/load functionality so you can share your track with friends.
    • Made collision callbacks so you can make something trigger on a collision (this enables features like finish lines that trigger when you drive over them).
    • Enabled raycasting so you can measure distances (this enables features like spawning something on the ground next to you even if you are on a tilted surface).
    • Exposed audio files in the game and made them playable with mods.
    • Added functionality to scale, rotate, and position objects.
    • Added an icon to multiplayer servers with mods.
    • Improved the UI for mods and made it movable.
    • You can now save settings in a mod.
    • If you have a mod active you can press F4 to release your cursor.
    • NOTE: The syntax of many mod functions has changed. This means that many of your old mods will be broken.

Blocks
  • NEW: Tiny Cannon - This 2x1 Cannon has the same functionality as the Small Cannon, but a different design. It weighs only 1kg and has a nub at the opposite end of the muzzle.
  • NEW: Inverted Corner Blocks - We have added four new inverted corner blocks that should hopefully make some of your builds more aesthetically pleasing. They are 1x2x2, 1x3x3, 1x4x4 and 2x2x2
  • NEW: Tone Generator - This 1x2 block emits a sound that you can choose from a drop-down menu in the configurator. You can also change the pitch of the sound. The default 0 value is a C, and every +1 or -1 is a semitone. You can find this block under “Soundmakers” in the Accessories section.

  • The Horn and the Square Horn have also received the “Pitch” slider.
  • The Square Horn now has a drop-down in the configuration where you can select between Alarm and Siren.
  • You can now disable the ability to look around with the camera while in a seat. This is a setting in the configuration on your seat.

Builder
  • Reworked the save system for blueprints:
  • When you save a blueprint you can give it a title, a description and a tag (even if you don’t upload it to the gallery or workshop).
  • If you decide to make some changes and save the blueprint again, you can choose to “Save” or “Save As”. The regular “Save” overwrites the original while “Save As” makes a new version.
  • Transformation Slots are now linked to Blueprints. So if you set a slot to that awesome plane you’re working on, as long as you continue to save your work on top of that Blueprint instead of Save As, any changes will also appear on the Transformation.
  • The title and description you choose for your blueprint are now visible when you hover over the blueprint in the menu. This also goes for workshop creations you have downloaded.
  • Added a separate blueprint tab for Workshop/Gallery downloads.
  • You can now hold down the button to quickly turn on/off a lot of blocks.

  • The toggles in the gif above are now 3D elements which means they should order correctly when there are many close together and be easier to work with overall.
  • Added a “Select All” feature that lets you quickly select every block of a type. The hotkey is Ctrl+Double Click on PC while on Consoles you just hold down the select button (A on Xbox, X on PlayStation)
  • Improved the wording of delays, durations and pauses in the block configurator and added tooltips that better describe how to use them.
  • Added tooltips to sliders in block configuration - hopefully this should clear up some frequently asked questions like “What is damping and stiffness on a suspension?”
  • Copying blocks that have Logic Toggles enabled will now correctly copy across the link.
  • Added a confirmation box for when you leave the builder with blocks that are unattached to a seat.
  • If you find yourself having an enormous amount of blueprints and would like to sort them, we have good news for you. If you create subfolders in your Documents/Trailmakers/Blueprint folder in Windows, they will now show up in game too.
  • We’ve changed how the Import and Export flow works. Now when pressing the button we’ll open a Windows Explorer window directly in your Blueprints folder. From here you can use the standard Windows controls and navigation to place Blueprints you want to import into your game into this folder. Returning to the game will then see your Inventory reload so you can use the imported Blueprint right away.

Performance
  • Greatly reduced the negative performance impact of having multiple engines.
  • Improved the performance when marquee selecting large structures in the builder.

Sound
  • Added a nice Doppler Effect.
  • Added new collision sounds.
  • Redesigned RAW Jet Engine sound so it’s easier to hear when it’s close to overheating.
  • All blocks now make sound when out of seat, they’ll deactivate after a period of no player being in a seat.

Bug Fixes
  • Fixed Blocks being placed around the Build Bounds leading to overlapping blocks.
  • Fixed a crash bug that would occur when copying from one side of the Build bounds to the other.
  • Fixed a crash bug that could occur if somebody was late joining a server during a despawn event.
  • Fixed an incorrect error message when the host closes a server. You will now see a correct “The Host closed the server” message.
  • Fixed not being able to set an Input Duration without also setting a Delay or Pause.
  • The sun no longer shines through blocks.
  • We made some improvements to the Exit Seat behaviour, so there’s less chance of the character Hulk smashing their way out of the seat.
  • Exiting your seat and builder whilst in or under water is now much safer.
  • Fixed numerous issues with the Chickens. They should now correctly run away from all players on a server.
  • Fixed Chickens not running away from players when they weren’t in a seat.
  • Fixed the particle direction when shooting a Chicken, it should now follow the trajectory of the shot.
  • Fixed being able to use more characters than allowed when naming your Workshop upload, which would cause it to fail to upload with a not very helpful error message.
  • Fixed Shield Plates being placed directly in front of wheels causing the structure to sink into the ground when reaching certain speeds.
  • Fixed the various fish in the Oceans of Treasure and Race Island being blurry if you had Motion Blur enabled. (They were very fast fish).
  • Fixed some Normal map issues with the skins when you were using the same colours for both the Primary and Secondary colour.
  • Fixed the Rocket Icon not appearing on the Salvage tooltips on Salvage that was required to build the rocket.
  • Fixed the Redemption screen (when unlocking Weekly Challenge prizes, or VIP Seat) having a non-functioning OK button.
  • Fixed some Salvage within Stranded in Space that was not resetting correctly when dropped in the water.
  • Fixed numerous issues with the Nugget Thieves within Stranded in Space with them dropping gold through terrain or into water.
  • Fixed the Daily Challenges incorrectly telling you you’d completed all challenges if playing offline.
  • Fixed numerous display issues with Blocks inside the Builder Inventory.
  • Fixed the LOD level on the Dynamite block.
  • Fixed some localisation issues.
  • Fixed the character scarf behaving erratically.
  • Fixed the Grass lying down when displacement was active.
  • Fixed Dethrone displaying the incorrect player that was picking up the Crown.
  • Fixed the Cockpit Seat despawning incorrectly.
  • Fixed Dethrone having some Template vehicles that shouldn’t have been there.
  • Fixed the Dethrone Template vehicles not having names.
  • Fixed a few rendering related bugs.

Welcome to the Summer Party Update!
Attention all Trailmakers! The Summer Party Update has a bunch of extremely requested features like 8-player multiplayer and the angle sensor, but it also features a whole lot of more technical advances we have made the past months. After our summer holidays, we plan on getting right back to working on the next Trailmakers update. There is a lot of great stuff to look forward to in the future, and we can’t wait to show you what we have planned :)

GENERAL
  • 8 Player Multiplayer - You can now create servers with up to 8 slots in multiplayer. Obviously, this requires a very good PC if you are hosting.
  • Server Host Admin Tools - You can now kick players if you are hosting a multiplayer game. Find it via the in-game menu “Session Options” when you’re hosting.

  • New and Improved Welding - As always when we do welding/physics changes, this will change the way some of your old vehicles behave. Some will be a little different, and others might be completely broken. We do these changes to optimize the game and fix bugs. We believe the changes are for the greater good, and encourage you to redesign broken vehicles.
  • New Steam API should fix a lot of multiplayer/connectivity issues for people who previously had issues with hosting or joining multiplayer games.
  • Your vehicles will now face the same way as your camera when you repair them.
  • Added spawn points in the water in the Danger Zone, Treasure Island and on Race Island. Boat-owners rejoice!

  • Added a temporary structure invincibility for a short period after leaving the builder.
  • Mod Support (Beta) - If you are interested in modding Trailmakers (at your own risk of course), we have added some pretty rudimentary mod support. We are very interested in hearing from you if you have ideas for further modding features (join the discord).
  • We’ve added analytics to the game to see what players do (and don’t do) in the game so we can make smarter decisions on what content to make in the future. This info is completely anonymous, but if you are uncomfortable with it you can easily opt out the first time you see the pop-up or any time in the Main Menu settings.
  • Danger Zone once again starts in the daytime. The time of day slider has been moved to the “Session Options” menu.
  • Added a new “Master Builders” section in the Main Menu to showcase the Weekly Challenge and it’s fantastically skilled winners!
  • Added a new background video for the main menu.
  • Added a few new achievements!
  • Added Korean localization.
  • Reset racing leaderboards due to physics changes rebalancing many vehicles.

BLOCKS
  • NEW: Dynamite - hehe, dynamite goes boom

  • NEW: Angle Sensor - This long awaited block finally joins our series of logic/sensors. You customize the block to trigger at a certain angle, sending an output. Perfect for stabilizing various creations.
  • NEW: Block Skin DLC 2 - We have added another DLC Skin Pack to the game with 5 blocks skins. Check them out in your local store, and buy them to support future development of Trailmakers :) The Skins are:
    • Gooey: An organic-looking skin
    • Scales: For the lizard people
    • High Tech: Electronic circuit board surface
    • Non-slip: Metallic non-slip surface
    • Rivets: Perfect for an armored submarine

  • Fix: Hoverpads now work properly when height value is set between 1.1 and 2.0.
  • Fix: The Mini-Thruster, RAW Jet, Dragon Jet, and Gimbal now have sound when active and the player is not in the seat.
  • Hinges and servos now have a “strength” setting. Putting it to 0 essentially makes them free floating bearings.
  • Added the missing 2x2x2 Cone to Stranded in Space
  • The Trailer Hinge has had its springiness and damping adjusted.

BUG FIXES
  • Fixed the invisible goals on Treasure Island
  • Fixed it so the maker tool’s beam is not visible when you’re in first person
  • Fixed various spots with poor occlusion and missing colliders
  • Fixed some bad template vehicles in Rally and Stranded.
  • Fixed the cursed containers in Danger Zone. You don’t want to know what was inside of them…
  • Fixed the ball in Carball Arena being invisible on lower quality settings.
  • Fixed the CTRL+Y feature that takes a no-background PNG of the structure you are seated in. Try it out!
  • Fixed the Test Drive dialog appearing in Game Modes where it didn’t apply.
  • Fixed the Template Blueprints in Rally having some missing template structure.
  • Fixed the 2x2 Wedge having slightly better aerodynamics than similar blocks.
  • Fixed an issue with video playback on Windows 7.
  • Fixed an issue with Template blueprints not having their names displayed.
  • Fixed the win screen at the end of Stranded in Space displaying minus hours.
  • Fixes for some Salvage within Stranded in Space.
  • Fixed wrong client side position of moving parts after transforming.
  • Fixed an issue with Dethrone displaying an incorrect Template vehicle at the start of a session.
  • Fixed the mirrored text in the start zone of each Rally race.
  • Fixed an issue with the camera getting stuck in place when transforming to a structure without a seat.
  • Fixed the Ship Wheel seat incorrectly being explosive.
  • Fixed an issue with the Ship Wheel that would cause parts of a structure to be invisible after exploding then repairing.
  • Fixed some of the Stranded Template vehicles displaying the controls as unconfigured.
  • Fixed the ramp.
Trailmakers - Bojangle

Hey Trailmakers!

In the near future, we have a Trailmakers update coming out. We know you are probably waiting in eager anticipation, so we thought you could help us speed up the development.

The new update has a couple of features that we have a hard time testing ourselves. A new Steam API update should fix a LOT of connection issues and also make hosting servers available for a lot of people who previously had issues with it. We need your help testing that. The update also makes 8 player multiplayer available. We need your help testing that. And finally, we have updated the physics to fix a bunch of bugs, and make other physics interactions more accurate and consistent. It will surely mess with a lot of your old saved vehicles, so we need your help testing the new physics on old vehicles.

So we are making the update public on a test branch here on Steam. Here is how to access it:

  • Right click Trailmakers in your Steam Library and click Properties
  • In the “Betas” tab, select the 1.1-public-beta branch from the drop-down list.
  • Click Close and wait for the update to download.

Make sure to switch back once you are done testing. We intend for this public beta to be open over the entire weekend! We've decided to keep the Public Beta branch open a little while longer, along with this we've updated the build with a handful of important fixes, please check the comments to see what they are!

As always, we’d prefer your feedback on our Discord: https://discord.gg/Trailmakers

If you are unsatisfied with something in the update, or if multiplayer is not working in a way you expect it to, let us know on our Discord, and make sure to tell us that you are playing the test branch.

There’s also a bunch of other cool new features in the update, but we’ll let you explore those for yourself 😎

PS.
This version of Trailmakers has analytics that helps us make better decisions when it comes to adding content to the game. It will anonymously tell us what kind of features, maps etc. are being used in the game, so we can focus our efforts on expanding stuff that you guys actually use. If you're not comfortable sharing this anonymous data with us, that is completely okay and we understand - there is an opt out button.

Known Issues
- Skin Pack 2 is not available yet despite it showing up in game, it will launch alongside the official release of 1.1.
- Your graphical and game settings may reset upon starting the beta build.
- Hinges with their Strength set to 0 are not free moving as intended.
- The Pre-Order Monument in Treasure Island isn’t displaying the names.
- Certain Button Hint sprites are displaying incorrectly.
- A single Dynamite being dropped doesn’t explode on contact.
- The Rotating Servo is awkward to select in the builder.
- Shield plates placed in front of multi-part blocks can make them awkward to select in the builder.
- The host closing their server incorrectly gives a Start Up Error message instead of the intended “Server closed” message.
- The first time you open the Configurator in a session, the Strength value can appear empty.
- The Race UI in Race Island is larger than intended.
- Ghosts incorrectly appearing (and not moving) in multiplayer Race Island.
Trailmakers - stidsholt
Pop the confetti cannon and rev your engines! We have launched Trailmakers on the PS4!🎉 Have a friend who's been waiting for this release? Do us a huge favor and tell them! It helps us a lot 😍

The PlayStation version has feature parity with the PC and the Xbox versions of Trailmakers. That means you get the newest version of Trailmakers no matter where you buy it, except for a few platform specific features. On PlayStation, you can access the Gallery to upload and download vehicles from other Trailmakers in stead of the Workshop as we have it on Steam.

This is good news for you PC players out there. With the porting of Trailmakers for PS4 done, we can focus our attention on the next Trailmakers update. Stay tuned for an awesome new Trailmakers update, coming soon(ish) 😎

Hey Trailmakers,

It’s been a little while since you’ve heard from us so I thought I would loop you in on what we’re working on.

Trailmakers on PS4
We are very excited to soon bring Trailmakers to the PlayStation 4. We have been working on the port for quite a while, which is also the reason why the general feature development of the game has been slower than it was in 2019. As soon as we launch the PlayStation version of Trailmakers, we will have a lot more resources to put into the continued development of Trailmakers features. We expect to launch Trailmakers on PS4 in April so do us a favour and tell your PlayStation playing friends!

The Next Big Update
We also have a Trailmakers update in the works, that I think will make a lot of players very happy. We have taken some of the most requested features from the Discord, Steam Forums and the Trello Suggestion List and combined them with some great Quality-of-Life features that are long overdue. Yes yes, I know it’s all very vague, but we want to make sure that features we tease are absolutely positively making it into the update. Here is a small teaser for an upcoming block though. Can you guess what it is?

See you soon!

We have teamed up with a bunch of other great developers to create a BUILDER GAMES SALE! A sale for games with building mechanics similar to Trailmakers. It's safe to say, that if you like Trailmakers you will probably like a lot of these games.

The sale will run until January 18, 2020 @ 10:05am PST.

You can find all the Builder Games right here.

Trailmakers is a historically low 66% off during the Builder Games Sale!

Trailmakers 1.0.4 - Centrifuge Update
The 1.0.4 update is out now, and it features a bunch of new awesome stuff for Trailmakers. First off, we want to address the new Centrifuge Map. This was originally planned to be a paid DLC map in this update. We have decided to add it to the game for free instead. After finishing development of the map, we decided that the relatively small size of the map disqualifies it as a paid map DLC. Consider it a Christmas present.

Some other highlights from the rest of the update notes are a new Test Zone map, an Anchor Block, glass block skin and a first person character camera. We hope you enjoy this update to Trailmakers. If you want to discuss it in depth or have any feedback, make sure you join our Discord.

General
  • NEW MAP: TEST ZONE
    • You asked for it, and here it is. A completely empty map except for the ground you drive on.
  • NEW MAP: The Centrifuge
    • This map features a huge donut-shaped racing track, and long stretches of tarmac.

  • Christmas in the Danger Zone
    • We put the fan-favorite snowy island back into the Danger Zone.
    • The packages are for you, but you might already have what’s in them. No returns!
    • B I G S N O W B O Y
  • We have entirely rewritten the vehicle Welding code.
    • Welding is what happens when you exit the builder, and turn the vehicle from a bunch of blocks into a physics-based creation.
    • We found a huge bug in the old code that caused several issues in the game, such as creations with weird bouncy wheels.
    • The new welding code will fix many annoying bugs and make welding much faster, but also change the way vehicles are put together. It may change the behavior of some of your vehicles, but we felt it was necessary and For The Greater Good™.
  • We have added a first person camera when you are NOT in a seat. Press C to switch between first person and third person.
  • We have added character customization options so you can choose between the character models with crash helmets, and the pre-rally look of hat and goggles.
  • Threw in some blue and red barrels in the Danger Zone for good measure.
  • We have added an 8th vehicle camera called “Behind Seat Camera” that is perfect for driving in the Centrifuge. The game will automatically switch over to this camera when you start a Centrifuge race.
  • Renamed Sandbox Island to Treasure Island since there are now quite a few sandbox maps.
  • 日本語翻訳を追加 ! Added JAPANESE translation!
  • The racing leaderboards have been reset due to the welding changes.
  • DLC: Hats!
    • We have put 13 hats in a Hat Pack DLC. The hats are: Chicken Bucket, Leprechaun Hat, Monocle and Moustache, Black Cowboy Hat, Plague Mask, Jack-o’-lantern, Roman Soldier Helmet, Thirst Aid Beer Helmet, Tiki Mask, Top Hat, Viking Helmet, Welding Helmet, and a Wizard Hat.
Performance
  • Reworked Rigid Body Synchronizer - this should slightly improve CPU performance.
  • We made some optimisations around the blueprints and how they're loaded/displayed in the builder.
Builder
  • Skins is a new feature in the builder. It lets you add a texture to certain blocks (but not all of them).
  • Glass skin can now be selected as a Skin.

  • We have added a few new colors in the color-picker for all blocks and adjusted some of the “old” colors.
  • We have made the “hitboxes” more precise in the builder so it’s easier to select a block that is behind another block.
  • When loading in a blueprint that uses blocks or skins you do not own, we have added a new menu that lists which blocks/skins you are missing, and gives you the option to remove them or buy them.
  • DLC: Skins
    • We have put 5 other skins in a Skins DLC. The skins are: Camouflage, Glow, Wood, Brick and Metallic. People without this DLC can still download and import skinned vehicles, but as with locked accessory blocks you can’t edit the vehicle until you reskin the blocks to something you own. In Sandbox Mode you can exit the builder and use the vehicle, but not modify it.

Blocks
  • NEW: Anchor Pin - Creates a connection between whatever it is connected to, and whatever it touches. For example, you can use it to pin down a house you have built.
  • Damping and Stiffness now go up to 2 in the settings on Suspension Springs.
  • Made the Skis work slightly better on snow and sand.
  • The Shield 2x1, Shield 2x2, and Shield 2x4 now have two different “Skins” so you can select which diagonal to split the two color selections.

Bug Fixes
  • Issues related to wobbly wheels or creations with very weak hinges should be fixed with the new welding code.
  • Fixed the Gimbal Jet particles.
  • Stranded in Space now makes backups of previous saves so you can rollback if you get into a broken save state.
  • Fixed a bug where repairing or entering the builder while swimming would sometimes send you to the bottom of the ocean.
  • If you exit the builder with a vehicle while over another built structure such as a ramp or platform you have made, it will no longer clip into the structure but land gently on top of it.
  • Fixed the vehicles sinking in the deck on the aircraft carrier in the Danger Zone.
  • Crash fixes for particular multiplayer Join and Leave flows.
  • Fixed the ramp.

Let's face it. Most of us suck at Trailmakers.

At least compared to some of the insane vehicles and inventions some players put up on the Steam Workshop. Some of that stuff is downright HUMBLING - even for us developers.

I mean, who builds a fully functional Vigenere Cipher Machine?! Kezo the Cabra does…

Or what about this self-landing SpaceX Starship by Esh?

Here is one of my personal favorites for when I really want to feel like a failure at the game. Martysama’s 3-part pirate ship “The Midnights Curse”. Three complexity-limit interlocking ship parts that can be assembled to a massive Man O’ War with manual control deck, turning sail, secret weapon console, accessible lower deck, and lots of hidden features.

Hey Trailmakers!
It’s been 1½ months since the release of Trailmakers 1.0. We’ve been so happy to see you enjoy the Stranded in Space campaign, and sharing your fantastic new creations in the Workshop, the Xbox Gallery, and on our Discord. Today, we want to give you a heads up about what we’re working on, and when we expect it is ready for release.

1.0.4 - Welding, New Maps, Block Skins, and DLCThe next content update for Trailmakers on Steam will have a bunch of awesome features as usual. We have also decided to add some DLC content to the game - some of it paid and some of it free. We have very carefully decided what type of content we want to add as DLC because we want it to feel entirely optional. Buy the DLCs if you want to support the development of Trailmakers and future Flashbulb games. Here are some of the new features in this update:
  • We have entirely rewritten the vehicle Welding code. Welding is what happens when you exit the builder, and turn the vehicle from a bunch of blocks into a physics-based creation. We found a huge bug in the old code that caused several issues in the game, such as creations with weird bouncy wheels. The new welding code will fix many annoying bugs and make welding much faster, but also change the way vehicles are put together. It may change the behavior of some of your vehicles, but we felt it was necessary and For The Greater Good™.
  • We are adding two new sandbox maps. The first one is a completely flat and empty map that many of you have requested to test out the top speed of your vehicles. The second is a paid DLC map with a donut-shaped racing track, and long stretches of tarmac.
  • We are adding a Block Skin feature that changes the texture/material of the block. The changes to the block are only in appearance, not physical. Most of the Block Skins are part of Paid DLC bundles, except the Glass Skin which we are adding as a free skin.
  • And much more...

Future Projects
While we are still working on Trailmakers, we are also working on some unannounced projects that we are not ready to talk about yet. More on that later :)
...
