As fellow Gamers, we understand the importance of being well informed on how software, such as Xigncode, functions. Our team has been gathering an extensive amount of excellent feedback from you, and we’d like to share our progress thus far:

• We’ll be adjusting the displayed message when a program has triggered Xigncode to now include the name of the program.
  
• We’re investigating potential methods to remove the installation of Xigncode when Black Desert Online is uninstalled.
  
• We’re looking into the addition of a notice when installing Black Desert Online, informing players about the installation of Xigncode.

Additionally, we have received a response from Welbia regarding the list of questions our team collected from your concerns. Included below are the questions & their respective answers:

1. What files does XIGNCODE3 scan/log/record?

When certain conditions are met, specific files will be added into a checklist for XIGNCODE3 to scan, log, and record. The certain conditions here refer to the malicious programs that are registered in the XIGNCODE3 database. The only reason for accessing the data is to check and determine whether the relevant file is a normal file or not.

If the conditions are met or the file seems suspicious, a part of the file data (one-way hash value and the file name) can be recorded as a log and transferred if necessary, but in a form that the original file cannot be recognized. Similar to an anti-virus program scanning for a virus, the sole purpose is to check the structure of the file. Apart from the one-way hash value and the file name, XIGNCODE3 does not collect the data of the whole file nor does it transfer the whole file to other external servers.

2. When does XIGNCODE3 collect data?

Once the game is launched and XIGNCODE3 is running correctly, it will start searching for hack tools existing in the user’s PC.

3. What does XIGNCODE3 do with my data?

With the data collected, XIGNCODE3 is able to determine if an error occurred and its cause. The recovered data helps us provide solutions for users who experience unexpected errors. Based on this data, we can also identify which users were using hacking tools, allowing us to restrict those users from accessing the service.

4. How long does XIGNCODE3 retain my information?

XIGNCODE3 strictly adheres to the Personal Data Privacy Law and manages the collected data accordingly. After the data is stored, it is disposed of after an average of 2 to 3 months. The stored logs are used for the sole purpose of checking if hack tools were used during gameplay, or to investigate XIGNCODE3 errors and nothing else.

5. How can I request Wellbia delete all of my data?

It is impossible for XIGNCODE3 to retrieve personal files as a whole. It is also not possible to identify any personal information from the collected data. The collected data is only specifically related to the game; no personal information or files are collected. Users can rest assure that there is no chance of personal information or files being leaked.

6. How do I fully remove XIGNCODE3 from my PC?

XIGNCODE3 is located inside the folder where the game was installed, only runs when the game is launched, and ends when the game is closed. (There are cases when the XIGNCODE3 tray icon may remain, but it is not actually running).

Nearly all files related to XIGNCODE3 are removed when uninstalling Black Desert Online. To remove XIGNCODE3 entirely from your system, users will need to complete the following steps after uninstalling Black Desert Online:

• Locate the file Xhunter1.sys [To remove this file the game must not be running]
  • This file is located in this directory: C:\Windows\xhunter1.sys
• Remove the Registry Entry [Use caution when adjusting registry settings]
  • The entry is located here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > ControlSet001 > Services > xhunter
• Please note: manually removing files and attempting to launch the game will result in errors and the inability to play. A reinstallation of the game is required to resolve this.

7. How do I find out what a XIGNCODE3 Error # means?

8. What precautions are taken to protect the data that is collected by XIGNCODE3?

To prevent the data from the hands of outside sources, XIGNCODE3 uses security programs, anti-virus programs, and data encryption. Only specific accounts and IP addresses are allowed access to the data and are constantly monitored with heavy restrictions.

9. Why does the 32-bit version of XIGNCODE3 work differently from the 64-bit version?

Just like the game requires 2 different versions to be suitable for the 2 different Windows operating systems, XIGNCODE3 also requires each version to be compatible accordingly.

10. Is the data that is sent encrypted?

The data is encrypted with XIGNCODE3’s own encryption method.

11. Does XIGNCODE3 modify any of my files?

XIGNCODE3 does not tamper with any files and only scans files, similar to an anti-virus program, to see whether or not a hacking tool is installed. Also, you can rest assured that no data is collect from normal files, only from those that meet the conditions mentioned earlier in this FAQ.

12. Why does XIGNCODE3 prevent other anti-cheat from running?

XIGNCODE3 does not block other anti-cheat programs, but it cannot be executed at the same time as GameGuard (nProtect). XIGNCODE3 has already attempted to fix this compatibility issue, however at this time, it remains unresolved, pending further investigation with GameGuard.

If other anti-cheat programs are run at the same time as XIGNCODE3, there is a chance of a compatibility issue which may lead to a crash. Should you experience this, please share this information with XIGNCODE3 and so the issue be investigated further.

13. Have there been any known breaches of the data stored at XIGNCODE3?

XIGNCODE3 is constantly concerned about potential data leaks and is always seeking to improve data security. To date, XIGNCODE3 has not encountered any breaches or leaks.

In addition, any data stored by XIGNCODE3 is only kept for a specified period and is deleted afterwards. If a breach was to happen in the future, the data stored by XIGNCODE3 does not contain whole files or personal information, so your personal information cannot be leaked.

14. Why does XIGNCODE3 flag some of Microsoft Windows updates as a threat?

In cases where Microsoft Windows releases preview build updates, there are numerous internal changes in the operating system making it difficult, from the technical standpoint, to address all of these changes in advance. Prior to the official Windows update, XIGNCODE3 runs tests with preview builds as well, working to apply fixes for any errors that may occur when the official update is released.

15. How large and how often is the data being sent to XIGNCODE3, will this negatively impact users with data caps?

There is no specified set size of the data since the size is determined by various factors such as file type, size, and etc. Also sending the data at regular intervals would reduce the performance of the user’s PC so it sends the data in a variable period or when a certain event occurs. Due to these precautions, there should be no negative impact at all for users that have a data cap.

16. Is there any support or guides provided by XIGNCODE3 on how to troubleshoot what software may be preventing the launch of the game client?

XIGNCODE3 has a detection code in the error pop-up with a simple description of the error. To find out exactly what the cause of the error is, you can email your XIGNCODE3.log file (located within the game folder) to support@wellbia.com and receive a detailed feedback regarding the error.

First, the issues that affected the NA servers turned out to be related to our daily server backup.
This automated process is necessary and would kick in during times of high player activity. By shifting our schedule to more suitable times we have been able to improve server performance significantly.

The current problems players face on the EU servers appear to be even more complex.
As you know, many new players joined BDO after the Steam launch and we increased the number of servers accordingly. The growing user database and related server queries did, however, cause lag and other performance issues in a way that cannot just be fixed by opening more servers.

Our technical staff is closely monitoring all database queries that might have an impact on server performance and keep fine tuning these queries to improve the performance of our EU servers.
We would like to thank all of you who reported the problems so passionately. These have been a great help to us in determining the cause of the instability. We also want you to know, that we understand the frustration serious lag causes and that we treat it with the highest priority.

We are thankful to have such a dedicated and passionate community and deeply regret the impact these performance issues have had on your experience in Black Desert Online. We ask for your continued understanding and support, while we work diligently on a solution.

    • Event Duration: June 14 ~ June 21 (08:59 UTC)
    • Do your part to help grow a Kamasylvia Tree, complete a short series of daily quests to contribute to its growth! Each day, participants may complete 2 of these quests to receive one “[Event] Gift of a Spirit”
      
      • Begin the daily quest “[Event] Sacred Energy of Spirit” by visiting the NPC “Cartima” in front of the inn in Heidel to collect the event item “Bowl of Spirit”.

I am writing you today to bring some degree of closure to the recent Xigncode concerns. We've gone through your feedback and would like to ask for the opportunity to share our stance. For those who are not familiar with Xigncode, allow me to explain what this software does as stated on their website.

XIGNCODE3 - Source

XIGNCODE3 is the next generation of gaming security solution mainly for online gaming service, currently patented and registered as a “one-time executable code structure”, which allows levels of various security policies according to company management measurements.

XIGNCODE3 supports more than 2000 game environment clients, and operates under Linux or Windows game servers. We provide all interface codes that are easily applicable in various conditions, such as C/C++/JAVA/C#. In addition, the API is structured in simple fashion for convenient adjustment, allowing easy application and testing without any complicated studies.

Xigncode is essentially a blacklist of sorts; it acts locally and will not send any of your data until an illicit program is detected. When Black Desert Online is not running, Xigncode will remain offline. Once you launch the game, however, Xigncode will initiate and will continue to run until the game is closed. This means Xigncode does not operate as a standalone application. When active, Xigncode scans your computer’s random access memory (RAM) to check for unauthorized third-party programs. Should such programs be detected, Xigncode reports which software it was and the account that tried to use it. It should be noted that Xigncode has been critical to the security of the game, such as the blocking of previous malicious programs like PYX and many other similar programs that plague online games.

Now that we have covered what Xigncode does, there are specific concerns we wanted to address directly:

• Xigncode does not sit in the background to idly collect your personal information and share it with others.
• Xigncode is not a rootkit. It does not enable a user to gain control of a computer system without being detected. As explained above, it operates in a very strict manner.
• Xigncode is not an ever-present virus that is impossible to remove from your PC. Without a game running, the software is and will remain inert.

Your concern that Xigncode remnants remain after uninstallation is a very valid point. To shed some light on this, the following portions remain:

• Xhunter1.sys
• C:\Windows\xhunter1.sys
• Registry Entry
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > ControlSet001 > Services > xhunter

After Black Desert Online is uninstalled, you can remove these files as they are not needed. Ideally, this process would be automated through the uninstall process and we're currently looking into how we can accomplish this technically. At this time, however, this process is not automated.
