Ol’ Geralt has gone tumbling through another magical portal, this time travelling from the world of The Witcher 3 to Monster Hunter: World. The crossover event lets us play as Geralt to track and murder a Witcher monster, the leshen treeman, with his usual Witching ways. Do so and you can get his armour and sword, plus a gruesome outfit for your Palico catfriend. A second, tougher part of the crossover starring Ciri will follow later this month with her gear as rewards, but only for a few weeks.
OK, two things on the agenda. Firstly, I’m heading off on my expedition to attempt to break the Curse Of Steam Charts for the next couple of weeks. I’m returning to Ursidae, Caniformia, to find that ancient temple once more and attempt to appease the enraged spirit of Horace. Hopefully we’ll never speak again!
Secondly, Toby’s back! This week’s Steam Charts are brought to you through the filter of a four year old who was really excited about doing this again, but then got into a right grump about it as soon as we started. But his naming skills remain as excellent as ever.
It's taken its sweet time getting to the platform, but Monster Hunter World players on PC will finally be able to step into the shoes of Geralt of Rivia next month, on May 9th, as part of the game's Witcher collaboration.
Monster Hunter World's Witcher crossover, which arrived on PS4 and Xbox One back in February, consists of a decently sized single-player mission and some multiplayer-enabled questing. The first of these, a new Special Assignment known as Contract: Trouble in the Ancient Forest, is a permanent addition to the game, and is designed for solo hunters at HR16.
It casts players as everybody's favourite beard-y Witcher, Geralt of Rivia (with voice actor Doug Cockle even providing new lines), and features Geralt-exclusive abilities, side quests, multiple endings, and a fight with a familiar Witcher foe - the formidable, forest-dwelling Leshen.
After months of lazing around on consoles, Geralt Of Rivia is finally stumbling through the portal to Monster Hunter: World on PC. Capcom have picked May 9th for the debut of this impressively well fleshed-out crossover. It features a fully voiced, branching story mission where you get to play as everyone’s favourite grumpy monster-slayer from The Witcher series, a new monster (plus one variant) from that world. There’s also a trio of big perks to grind for. Dedicated hunters can permanently unlock Geralt, Ciri and horrible Nekkers to fight, or capture to swap your Palico for.
Geralt of Rivia may be the Witcher, but his job description has always been monster hunter, which makes his upcoming appearance in Monster Hunter: World perhaps the game’s most sensible crossover event yet. Capcom has announced the collaboration event will kick off on PC May 9, and it’ll feature new quests and Witchery gear to earn.
The Witcher/Monster Hunter crossover is perhaps the most involved mash-up Capcom has created to date. Geralt of Rivia himself appears in the New World, with brand-new gravelly Geralt lines performed by the actors from the original games. Using Geralt’s silver sword, you’ll have to hunt down a Leshen, which you may remember as an antlered forest abomination from The Witcher III: Wild Hunt.
The new special assignment is called Contract: Trouble in the Ancient Forest, and it features several possible endings that depend on the choices you make throughout the quest chain. Finishing the quest provides a bunch of Witcher-themed Monster Hunter goodies, plus materials for crafting a set of Geralt’s armor a sword and shield set based on his trademark silver monster-hunting blade. Oh, and you can craft a Nekker outfit for your Palico.
You’ll need to be Hunter Rank 16 to take on the first new quest, which means you’ll need to have finished the story campaign. Don’t worry if you haven’t gotten around to doing that yet, though—unlike most of the other special events in Monster Hunter: World, this new Witcher quest will be available permanently.
Events like these are typically split into two phases, and this is no exception. Starting May 17, the second half of the crossover opens up, which centers on a multiplayer hunting event for the much more powerful Ancient Leshen. That quest will be available to players at Hunter Rank 50 or higher.
More details are available over on Steam.
