In Patch Notes - Update 25.1, we presented Dragunov, an innovative firearm featuring a unique probabilistic damage system. Following this announcement, we've monitored your responses and carefully analyzed the Test Server data. Considering your feedback and the concerns brought to light, we've made the decision to suspend the release of Dragunov on the Live Server.
Our primary motive behind introducing Dragunov was to enrich gameplay variety and add an element of delightful unpredictability. However, we wholeheartedly recognize that our players are the ones who must adapt to these updates, and that such modifications can substantially alter the core gameplay that we collectively treasure. Furthermore, we acknowledge that the probabilistic damage system introduced by Dragunov creates variables beyond players' control, possibly deviating from the intended gameplay experience.
Not only that, your comments on the performance of the AUG, as conveyed in our recent Dev Letter, have been noted.
We concur there's room for more immediate player engagement beyond our conventional approach to updates - announcements, community monitoring, and feedback collection - as we agree that each update could potentially profoundly influence gameplay experience.
Thus, with all these in mind, we are ready to go beyond our internal dialogues and testing processes by integrating your feedback directly into our development process. We aim to establish a more thorough player validation and feedback mechanism during content creation and rollout.
In accordance with our commitment to nurturing a more intimate connection with our community, we're preparing to launch a survey concerning modifications to Dragunov and AUG.

A new convertible roof function is enabled for the "V12 Vantage Roadster (Luxe)" Sports Car skin.
The convertible roof function enables opening and closing the vehicle's soft cover when a certain key is pressed. Keys for operating the cover are as below.

PlayStation®: L1 + ▢
While in use, the function can be canceled 1 second after activation.
Animation lasts for 3 seconds.
The details on the convertible roof function are as follows.
It is enabled only on vehicles with the convertible roof function.
It can only be used in the driver's seat, regardless of whether you are driving.
It only works when the vehicle's HP is greater than 0, and is disabled when the vehicle's HP is 0 or the vehicle is on fire.
It works regardless of driving speed.
It is disabled when the vehicle is submerged.
It also works on the starting areas.
Collision of characters/throwables on the soft cover does not apply while the function is in use.
Aston Martin Container
An exclusive Aston Martin container is available in the starting areas of the Erangel, Miramar, Sanhok, Vikendi, Taego, and Deston.
The container can only be unlocked by players who own the Aston Martin skin.
If multiple Aston Martin skins are concurrently equipped, the system will randomly select one to display.
Only the player who unlocks the container and their teammates can operate or ride in the Aston Martin vehicle.
This feature can be utilized from the start of the match until players board the plane; once they do, the previously positioned container and the Aston Martin vehicle will disappear.
Available in Normal Match, Ranked, Casual Mode, and Custom Match - Normal Match.
The Aston Martin containers are available to use for two months.
Special Vehicle Skin: Aston Martin
After deliberate consideration of player feedback regarding the Aston Martin Special Vehicle skins, our development team arrived at a decision to amend the Aston Martin skins, enabling headshots to penetrate the headrest portion of vehicle seats in the forthcoming #25.1 live server update. Vehicle appearance is changed.
Vehicle sounds such as driving/honking sounds are changed.
Even after equipping the Special Vehicle skin, HP/speed, weight, fuel amount, driving method, etc. are maintained based on the condition of the vehicle before equipping the skin.

The UAZ, Pickup, and Zima will marginally increase in size, resulting in an increased hit area.
Different colors of exterior paints can have an impact on the vehicle's visibility in-game.
The vehicle top is made of glass and can take damage.

Introducing the world's first designated marksman rifle, the Dragunov, to PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, complete with its potent, lethal firepower. This new addition to the arsenal utilizes 7.62mm ammunition and is recognized for its potential to inflict high damage akin to a sniper rifle. With a bit of luck, you can take down an enemy in a single shot, adding a thrilling element of unpredictability to both Solo and Squad encounters. However, the Dragunov is not without its challenges: its hefty recoil and slower firing rate require a steady hand and quick reflexes. Dev's Comment: Greetings, players! We're excited to officially unveil the Dragunov, as recently previewed in our last Dev Letter. In general terms, the Dragunov boasts performance akin to other designated marksman rifles but has been uniquely engineered to deliver potentially high damage at a given probability, but also presenting risks in terms of recoil and firing rate, commensurate with its potential for high damage output.
Our dev team aspires to break away from updating with similar weapons, and instead, introduce weaponry embodying unique concepts to foster distinct gameplay experiences. We are hopeful that the Dragunov, with its new position in the weaponry arsenal, will offer an exciting, fresh dynamic for our players.
As we are introducing a novel system that expands on the existing mechanics of PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, we will be intensively monitoring both community feedback and vital gameplay statistics. Your thoughts and comments are not only welcome but crucial to us. - An exclusive Aston Martin container is available in the starting areas of the Erangel, Miramar, Sanhok, Vikendi, Taego, and Deston. - The container can only be unlocked by players who own the Aston Martin skin. ㅤㅤ- If multiple Aston Martin skins are concurrently equipped, the system will randomly select one to display. - Only the player who unlocks the container and their teammates can operate or ride in the Aston Martin vehicle. - This feature can be utilized from the start of the match until players board the plane; once they do, the previously positioned container and the Aston Martin vehicle will disappear. - Available in Normal Match, Ranked, Casual Mode, and Custom Match - Normal Match. - The Aston Martin containers are available to use for two months.

New Areas
- Partona - A lively hustle and bustle of markets and plazas, Partona is a circular village alive with a festival that harmoniously blends indigenous practices and traditions. - Partona replaces the previous area, Los Higos. - Added a new style of house sets. - Dev's comment: Partona has been meticulously crafted to offer a looting efficiency similar to that of Los Higos. To provide a seamless navigation process for players, a bridge has also been constructed for easier access from the southern island.
- Resort - Conceptualized from an abandoned retreat, the Resort is majestically perched on a hill overlooking the sweeping southern seascape. - Adjusted the locations of house sets and roadways. - Dev's comment: The previous terrain, densely filled with housing sets, offered suboptimal looting efficiency and the rough fields posed a challenging landscape for players, particularly when the Blue Zone shifted to this area. To enhance gameplay, we've removed the paddy fields, transforming the space into the Resort - a thrilling new locale for looting.
- Truck Stop - An oasis for trucks laden with materials to take a much-needed break. - The Truck Stop replaces the previous Junkyard area. - The redesigned layout includes a main road, secondary roads, and rustic dirt paths for improved navigation and engagement. - Improvements have been made to the surrounding terrain. - Dev's comment: The Truck Stop introduces a unique visual theme and emphasizes a distinctive battle experience. With the integration of these new elements, we aspire to facilitate a different combat dynamic, distinguishing it from the other Miramar areas.
New Feature: Sandstorm
Presenting a vigorous wind of sand that traverses across the desert-like map - the Sandstorm. The Sandstorm... - replaces Miramar's existing Red Zone. - gradually depletes the health of players inside, regardless of their location - be it within a vehicle or inside a building. - obstructs visibility to a certain extent. - slightly slows down movement speed. - extinguishes Smoke Grenades and Molotovs. - generates static electricity due to the intense friction from the swirling sands, rendering electronic equipment such as Jammer Packs, Drones, Spotter Scopes, Blue Chip Towers, and Blue Chip Transmitters inoperable. - subsides after some time. - does not form over the sea. - displays a warning message during the match and its activated area UI on the world map.
New Feature: Zipline
Introducing the new Zipline, enabling fluid navigation across various locations. - Every Zipline is equipped with two ropes. - Ziplines can be used using the Interaction key. - You can then embark with the forward direction key. - Ziplines allow straight-line movement only; reverse traversal is not an option. - Multiple players can use the Zipline simultaneously, but simultaneous boarding per rope is not possible prior to departure. ㅤㅤ- When players share the same starting point of a single rope, players can use the Zipline sequentially, following the departure of the preceding player. - Once players reach the opposite side, they are automatically unhooked from the Zipline. - Mid-journey release can be initiated by hitting the Interaction key again, leading to a fall. - In case of a fall, players can deploy their Utility Parachute depending on the fall's height. - SMGs or Handguns can be used while riding the Zipline, but reloading is disabled. - Ziplines are marked on the map.
Dev's Comment: With the introduction of Ziplines, players can strategically navigate through the islands and various ridges of Miramar at a brisk pace. Difficult-to-access spots, like enemy-guarded areas, can be breached swiftly and stealthily via Ziplines. The feature not only adds an exciting layer to combat dynamics but also aims to mitigate the challenging terrain of Miramar.
Area Modifications
- Alcantara ㅤㅤ- Removed the Trailer Park and Ruins, and in its place, repositioned Alcantara to be slightly closer to the heart of the map. ㅤㅤ- Removed main roads that meandered around the outskirts. ㅤㅤ- Inserted a main road coursing through the town. ㅤㅤ- Tidied up nearby terrain and roads. ㅤㅤ- Placed new buildings and removed certain others in the vicinity of the newly positioned Alcantara. ㅤㅤ- Dev's comment: By moving Alcantara closer to the center of the map, our goal is to retain its original charm while increasing its efficiency, and making it a more appealing location for players. - Brick Yard ㅤㅤ- The area formerly known as Ladrillera has been rebranded as the Brick Yard. ㅤㅤ- This area holds the concept of a brick production site that caters to the brick usage in Miramar. ㅤㅤ- Revamped the entire layout, introducing new structures and looting spots. ㅤㅤ- The surrounding landscape has been enhanced for better accessibility. ㅤㅤ- Dev's comment: Despite its unique theme, Ladrillera wasn't utilized as a looting spot as much as we hoped. We have therefore enhanced its looting capabilities and reinforced its brick factory artistic concept. - Campo Militar ㅤㅤ- Removed Torre Ahumada, and in its place, repositioned Campo Militar. ㅤㅤ- Improved the general layout. ㅤㅤ- A shooting range and additional roads have been added. ㅤㅤ- The terrain has been modified. ㅤㅤ- The former location of Campo Militar now features house sets. ㅤㅤ- Dev's comment: By removing certain less favored areas from the outskirts, and maintaining the original Campo Militar concept while moving it nearer to the map's center, we're striving to make it more accessible for players. - Cantera ㅤㅤ- Transformed the artistic concept of Cantera, reimagining it as a facility that processes, stores, and manages resources required for the construction of other buildings and factories. ㅤㅤ- The entire layout has been reconfigured and the terrain enhanced. ㅤㅤ- Dev's comment: We removed the current concept of ruined buildings used in La Bendita, and replaced it with a new concept featuring warehouses that promise efficient looting. - Chumacera ㅤㅤ- The surrounding area has been improved and terrain bugs fixed. ㅤㅤ- Added more rock and tree covers. - Impala ㅤㅤ- The surrounding terrain has been enhanced. ㅤㅤ- Added more areas for cover. - Los Leones ㅤㅤ- Certain buildings have been removed for optimization purposes, and in its place, new structures have been added. ㅤㅤ- Certain objects have been modified or removed. - Pecado ㅤㅤ- The surrounding terrain has been improved. ㅤㅤ- Dev's comment: The firing range from atop the cliff has been limited. Skillful use of cover below now makes it harder to fire from the cliff's edge. The environment now resembles a valley, offering sufficient cover for players and their vehicles. - Power Grid ㅤㅤ- Cliffs have been added and certain current ones removed. ㅤㅤ- The size of cliffs has been adjusted. ㅤㅤ- Dirt roads and more cover have been added. - Prison ㅤㅤ- Removed Minas del Sur and in its place, repositioned Prison. ㅤㅤ- The layout has been upgraded and main buildings polished. ㅤㅤ- Surrounding cliffs have been removed and the terrain modified. ㅤㅤ- Roads have been added. ㅤㅤ- The former location of the Prison now features a set of houses. ㅤㅤ- Dev's comment: The previous location of the Prison was situated on the peripheral parts of the island, rarely attracting players for initial looting. To address this, we removed Minas del Sur and redesigned the Prison, now nestled within a natural enclosure of ridges. - Water Treatment ㅤㅤ- Loot-rich buildings have been placed. ㅤㅤ- The general layout, surrounding terrain, and cliffs have been improved. ㅤㅤ- Entrance routes have been tidied up. ㅤㅤ- A main road has been added. ㅤㅤ- Dev's comment: We transformed the area into a more efficient looting spot and improved the surrounding terrain to facilitate easy entrance and escape, hoping to make it a more efficient drop spot. - Southern island ㅤㅤ- The southern island has been expanded. ㅤㅤ- Bridges have been added to connect it to the mainland. ㅤㅤ- The positioning of house sets has been modified, with more being added. ㅤㅤ- Surrounding cliffs have been improved for easier access. ㅤㅤ- Roads have been added. ㅤㅤ- Dev's comment: By adding bridges and Ziplines, we hope to diversify the gameplay, offer alternative routes, and alleviate the stress associated with navigating the island.

- A new desert-inspired Hazy weather has been added. - The Sunset weather has undergone a rework. - The texture of Clear weather has enhanced. - Please note the in-game weather is determined randomly based on specific probabilities.

- Enhanced the overall map textures including terrain, trees, grass, and rocks. - A new sediment rock texture has been added to cliffs. - Cliffs have undergone color adjustments and certain cliffs have been replaced.
Map
- In alignment with the above changes, the World Map and Minimap have been updated.
Miscellaneous
- Fuel Pumps have been added throughout the map. - General improvements have been made to the quality of buildings and doors. - Blue Chip Towers have been relocated following the terrain alterations. - Added a new Miramar signboard. - New foliage, such as desert plants, cacti, and desert trees, have been integrated into the environment. - Reshaped some standard field areas to a circular design. - Added new environmental objects such as tumbleweeds and plastic bags. - Certain fences have been removed, and others replaced with more fitting designs.
Dev's comment: In our latest update for Miramar, our primary focus has been on fine-tuning and enhancing existing features, rather than implementing a large-scale overhaul.
Historically, Miramar presented players with numerous challenges: navigating difficult terrain, engaging in complex ridge combat, and strategizing around challenging landscapes. With this update, our aim is to diversify the gameplay experience by introducing various visual enhancements and incorporating new content. All the while, we've made every effort to maintain the core elements that define Miramar's unique gameplay.
We have worked to improve the Miramar terrain, merging a wider range of strategic routes to alleviate difficulties related to player movement, all while preserving Miramar's hardcore ethos. In our first step towards this goal, we have simplified or entirely removed certain areas of the map that were underutilized or somewhat isolated, thereby streamlining the gameplay for our players.
For this update, we have meticulously reworked elements of the map that were inconsistent with accumulated gameplay data and player feedback. Our aim is to broaden the spectrum of possibilities for players within the visually enhanced map environment.
We hope that, through these changes, we can increase the variety of viable looting spots available to players during the initial phases. In turn, this should enrich both movement patterns and strategic decision-making within the game. Our ongoing mission is to continue enhancing the game, maintaining balanced map environments and fostering gameplay diversity. Our goal is to refresh established patterns and ensure that Miramar becomes an even more engaging and accessible map for all players.

Emergency Pickup
- The Emergency Pickup plane is replaced by a helicopter. - Sound effects adjusted accordingly. - The helicopter's flight altitude has been reduced.
Dev's comment: We've been closely tracking your comments regarding the Emergency Pickup, including concerns about the plane's altitude making it difficult to spot, the confusion caused by the similar sound effects it shares with Care Packages, and its frequent drop-offs to inaccessible areas. To address these issues, we have implemented balance modifications to the Emergency Pickup.
6x Scope
- The zeroing adjustment feature, which was previously accessible only on the 8x and 15x Scopes, is now available on the 6x Scope as well. - Zeroing adjustment: 100m~500m.
Equipping Special Vehicle Skin
- Upon entering the driver's seat of a vehicle, your owned Basic vehicle skin will be automatically equipped. ㅤㅤ- If the selected vehicle already has a Basic skin equipped, it will be automatically replaced with your owned Basic skin. ㅤㅤ- If the selected vehicle has a Special vehicle skin equipped, the appearance of the vehicle will remain unchanged. - If you own a Special vehicle skin, it will be equipped only when you press the Limited Interaction key. ㅤㅤ- If the selected vehicle has a Basic skin equipped, it will be replaced with your owned Special vehicle skin. ㅤㅤ- If the selected vehicle has a Special vehicle skin equipped, the appearance of the vehicle will remain unchanged. - This update is applied as the default setting. You can change the settings through Settings -> Gameplay -> Function.
Death Cam
- You can now use the Spectate feature after viewing the Death Cam. - You have the option to return to Spectate the match via System Menu - Leave Replay or the match results screen after you have viewed the Death Cam.
Taego Multi Care Packages
- Readjusted the quantity of Multi Care Packages available in both Ranked and Esports mode on the Taego map, ensuring it aligns with the quantity in Normal Matches. - Before: Min. 5 / Max. 15 - After: Min. 5 / Max. 10

Explore, adapt, and conquer your enemies on Boardwalk! ㅤㅤ- Certain areas, including most rooftops and higher up areas, are inaccessible. ㅤㅤ- Increased the speed of Ascenders compared to the regular live matches. - Dragunov Kit has been added. - The Sosnovka Military Base map, identified as having the highest leave rate, has been removed. - The Campo Militar map, subject to significant modifications in line with the Miramar update, has been removed. - The probabilities for map selection have been readjusted.
Intense Battle Royale
- FPP mode has been added. ㅤㅤ- TPP mode has been removed.
Dev's comment: Following the initial release of Intense Battle Royale, we've observed its widespread popularity among our fans, and at the same time, also noted a steady stream of feedback expressing a desire for the availability of FPP mode, with many opinions voicing that the pulsating late-game scenarios inherent to the Intense Battle Royale experience could be more immersive if experienced through FPP. Acknowledging this, we've shifted the gameplay perspective from TPP to FPP.
As part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing the gaming experience, we've been exploring various improvements up to this point, such as the addition of new areas, and believe this change can further elevate the immersive qualities of Intense Battle Royale.
While TPP has been phased out of live matches, players can still enjoy TPP in Custom Matches!

Lobby
New Feature: Team Suggest
- A new Team Suggest feature has been added. - Focuses on recommending online players from a pool of your PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS friends, affiliated Clan members, and 30 players you've recently played with through the lobby UI. - There is a priority in player suggestion: ㅤㅤ- Players who have played more than five matches with you as a team are suggested as first priority. Among these players, suggestions are made based on the number of matches played, and in the case of a tie, recent matches are prioritized. ㅤㅤ- Players who have played between 1 to 4 matches with you as a team are suggested as the second priority, with a preference for recent matches. ㅤㅤ- After the above priorities are considered, if there are still open slots, logged-in friends or Clan members are suggested in the order of their most recent login. ㅤㅤ- In the event of completely identical priorities, a random recommendation will be made. - You can do the following actions depending on your current status: ㅤㅤ- If you are alone in the lobby: ㅤㅤㅤㅤ- If the suggested player is your friend/Clan member and alone in the lobby, they can join your party (You can invite if joining is not permitted). ㅤㅤㅤㅤ- If the suggested player is your friend/Clan member and part of a team or currently playing, they can join. ㅤㅤㅤㅤ- If the suggested player is not your friend/Clan member and alone in the lobby, they can be invited. ㅤㅤ- If you are in the lobby as part of a team: ㅤㅤㅤㅤ- If the suggested player is your friend/Clan member/etc. and alone in the lobby, they can be invited. - Up to 3 players can be suggested. When an action is taken, the players with the next priority are displayed sequentially. If all suggested players have been actioned and are no longer on the list, no more players will remain on the list. - However, there may be instances when a player may be suggested for team play but may not be able to join due to certain conditions. ㅤㅤ- For example, when the status of a player who has been proposed does not meet the required conditions before a lobby restart (switching between Normal Match and Ranked, re-entering the lobby after accessing the Social page, or restarting the lobby via settings), a system error message will be displayed.
Dev's Comment: We've identified a need for a system that continuously suggests potential team members. In response to this requirement, we're introducing the Team Suggest feature that recommends familiar players to those who show a preference for team play. We're hopeful that this initiative will incentivize the formation of teams and heighten the enjoyment of matches with suggested players!
Team Up
- The Team Up feature has been removed. ㅤㅤ- Every in-game and out-game UI has been removed.
Dev's Comment: The Team Up feature was developed to facilitate immediate team formation among players who found synergy with randomly encountered teammates. However, not all team members finish the match simultaneously, as they might be engaged in other activities such as watching their Death Cam or spectating. This circumstance necessitated the consideration of numerous exceptional cases when forming teams, subsequently complicating the development and maintenance of fundamental team features.
Furthermore, the Team Up feature has been found to be seldomly utilized by our players. While it has potential value for a subset of our player base, the high maintenance cost combined with the introduction of the new Team Suggest feature have led to our decision to discontinue this feature.
Although we acknowledge the Team Suggest feature can't completely replace all functionalities of Team Up, it provides a variety of viable alternatives, as players can now transparently monitor the status of other players in the lobby and dispatch invites or friend requests. Additionally, the forthcoming Team Suggest feature will further assist in addressing a shortage of team members.

HOW IT WORKS
1. Your dream PUBG Esports team can consist of four active players from four different teams, using a starting budget of $100,000. 2. Choose an active player to be the Captain of your team. The Captain will benefit from a multiplier of 1.3x on all points obtained during matches. 3. Choose a Benched player who will serve as a replacement in case your starting players do not participate in a match. A Benched player must be from a different team than any of your active players. 4. Change Captain and Benched roles every day, and build a completely new team for each stage.
In each stage, you'll have the opportunity to build a unique Fantasy team, tweaking your strategy according to the schedule, players' performance, and trends.
Before each match day begins, you will be able to change your Captain and swap an active player with a Benched player.
Maintain a competitive edge by staying sharp, adapting, and outmaneuvering your opponents. Keep in mind that your fantasy team's daily activity is crucial to securing those valuable points!
POINTS DISTRIBUTION
The allocation of points follows a clear and simple system. - Your players will gain 2 points for every kill they achieve. - For every hundred points of damage your player inflicts, you will receive an additional point. - Early deaths before the 10-minute mark will result in a -3 point penalty. - A 5-point bonus will be earned if your active player survives until the end of the match.

Last September, we introduced a new theme 'diversity and opportunity', and shared our future gunplay development direction of PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS.
Today, we would like to discuss the outcomes that our dev team has observed through our updates so far and discuss the positive changes we've seen in gameplay.
In this message, we have included data that describes the major trends in weapon use, a portion of which is being publicly disclosed for the first time. We also want to address promises we made in our previous Dev Letter, and respond to the abundant interest you've shown us.
Before we dive in, let's start with some context on PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS. Our game thrives on choices. Players craft their own plays by making moment-to-moment decisions: from the initial parachute drop to looting, on-the-move strategizing, and ultimate survival. The heart of the gameplay lies in the player's ability to make choices and strategically deal with the outcomes. Here, weapons play an integral role. In order to provide an immersive gaming environment, we believe that not only should there be diverse weapons, but also a stable meta and balance to support them. Moreover, we acknowledge that players invest their time and enthusiasm in our game, and recognize that our updates may not always meet your anticipations.
With this understanding, as we contemplate changes to weapon types and the meta, we are determined to better understand your perspectives throughout this year. Our commitment is to share our objectives and outcomes transparently, to value player opinions as much as possible, and to expand on the enjoyment of gameplay.
Addressing Imbalances in Gunplay: Strategies and Current Status
Over the past year and into this one, our dev team has focused on creating a balanced weapon usage environment. We are aware there have been times when certain powerful weapons, like the M416, Beryl M762, and SLR, have been particularly popular choices.
We hold the belief that circumstances where players consistently opt for a limited array of powerful weapons could potentially dilute the overall enjoyment of the game. As a result, to elevate and diversify the gaming experience, we deem it crucial to expand the range of viable weapon choices.
While it was essential to improve the effectiveness of less popular weapons in addition to ARs and DMRs, the primary focus of our updates has been the weapons that players typically use. Our efforts have been geared towards creating an environment where the choice between 5.56mm and 7.62mm weapons is influenced by personal preference and combat situation, as opposed to the perceived inherent superiority or inferiority of the weapon. Steps towards this aim include balancing the M416, introducing new options like the Mk12 and ACE32, and making the AUG a world-spawn weapon.
As we implemented these updates, we meticulously log all gameplay activity shown by players, turning this data into quantifiable metrics for continuous monitoring. Our objective extends beyond simply gathering information; we strive to analyze and reflect the impact of each update as objectively as possible.
Through this Dev Letter, we plan to address the issue of weapon imbalance by examining factors such as weapon usage rates and win percentages. Furthermore, we are eager to share with you the extent of progress we've made in resolving these imbalances.
Enhancing the Ratio of Weapon Usage
The 'kill ratio' is perhaps the most intuitive metric we have, representing the ratio of all kills made with each specific weapon. By aggregating data from all players across all matches, we can provide a clear snapshot of the overall trends in weapon use. Furthermore, fluctuations in the 'kill ratio' can signify shifts in player perception and behavior towards certain weapons, highlighting areas that could be particularly challenging to enhance.
Early 2022, we observed a stark contrast in the kill ratio of 5.56mm and 7.62mm weapons, which stood at approximately 30:70. This imbalance was notable even by our internal benchmarks. Given that our insights stem from comprehensive statistics derived from a multitude of logs, we believe that players might have sensed this discrepancy more profoundly, especially if they repetitively gravitated towards a particular weapon. The gap between individual weapons also widened, with 5.56mm choices primarily reduced to the M416, and 7.62mm choices confined to the Beryl M762 and SLR.
In response to this imbalance, while the 7.62mm category provided relatively diverse options, including the Beryl M762 and ACE32, the 5.56mm segment was increasingly dominated by the M416. To balance out this trend, we sought to introduce a broader spectrum of 5.56mm weapons by repurposing the AUG as a world-spawn weapon and adjusting its performance; we aimed to position it on par with the Beryl M762.
Following the AUG update, our expectations were met as the AUG and M416 began to share the spotlight among the 5.56mm weapons, effectively expanding the choice of Assault Rifles. We also observed an improvement in the kill ratio between 5.56mm and 7.62mm weapons, which now stands at a balanced 51:49.
We are committed to ensuring that individual weapon groups, such as Assault Rifles and Designated Marksman Rifles, also exhibit similar trends. As for ARs, they have achieved a state of equilibrium, while DMRs are maintaining a ratio close to balance at 53:47. With regard to DMRs, we acknowledge that the Mk12 currently displays a higher usage rate, with a pronounced disparity among different DMRs. We are contemplating strategies to address this, such as introducing new 7.62mm weapons to increase available choices.
To sum up, we'd like to report that the utilization of primary 5.56mm and 7.62mm weapons has reached our intended targets, maintaining an unprecedented equilibrium. It's not only uplifting that we've reached this level of balance for the first time since our service launched, but it's also deeply gratifying to see a diverse assortment of weapons, each with its own unique characteristics, making a significant contribution to the gaming experience.
Enhancing Weapon Win Rates
Throughout our updates, we have adjusted the balance of many frequently-used weapons such as the AUG, Beryl M762, ACE32, M416, Mk12, and more. In this post, we aim to share with you the win rates of individual firearms, a topic we did not discuss in the previous Dev Letter.
The data that follows represents the probability of each weapon winning in all 'AR vs AR' or 'DMR vs DMR' engagements. This information, derived from comprehensive player match logs, provides an insightful look at individual weapon performance, extending beyond player skill.
We have taken a cautious approach to ensure that the win rates of most primary weapons do not deviate significantly from 50%, all the while maintaining long-term balance in terms of usage rates.
The AUG, perceived as relatively powerful, boasts the highest win rate within the 5.56mm AR category. However, this closely parallels the Beryl M762, which holds a similar position within the 7.62mm AR category. Given that the AUG had a win rate surpassing 60% when it was exclusively available in Care Packages, we believe it has been suitably adjusted since becoming a world-spawn weapon.
After the balance adjustment in the #22.2 Update for the M416, we have closely monitored player feedback and win rate metrics. Despite apprehensions, the M416 continues to be widely used by players, and the difference in win rate before and after the patch is just about 1%, implying that the actual combat performance has not significantly changed.
The Mk12, which received a lot of feedback about being overly powerful, experienced a decline in its initially high win rate by over 3% after the adjustments in the 22.1 Update. Nevertheless, it still performs well compared to other DMRs and we will persist in tracking its performance.
Variations in both kill proportions and win rates among individual weapons are to be expected, given the unique characteristics and status each weapon possesses in the PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS gameplay framework. Regardless, we pledge our commitment to refining the gameplay experience, striving to balance weapon dynamics, and introducing new changes to less favored weapons.
Future Plans
In our last Dev Letter, we committed to enhancing the excitement of gunplay in a more encompassing way. Now, we would like to give you a glimpse into our forthcoming plans.
Initially, our goal is to foster fresh gunplay opportunities via updates to weapon categories or even larger-scale trends.
We will continue to diligently monitor the utilization and performance of popular weapons, while also closely observing those that currently see less frequent use, given the current equilibrium. This includes lesser-used weapons within ARs and DMRs, as well as SMGs and LMGs which consistently display lower overall usage rates. We will carefully review and develop these non-mainstream weapons so that they can each have their unique identity and functionality.
Moreover, during this process, we aim to minimize updates that could be stressful to players, such as excessive adjustments to favored weapons.
We are also excited to inform you that you will very soon get to meet a new weapon and new gunplay features.
Some of these content have already been hinted through previous Dev Letters or on social media, possibly heightening your curiosity about their impending release. Based on the achievements we have garnered over the past two years, we are proceeding with this fresh development after thorough deliberation.
Our plans encompass more than simply adding new elements - we will also carefully balance these for universal application across both Normal and Ranked Matches. While this might require some time, we greatly appreciate your patience and understanding as we pursue optimal outcomes.
