Deston is returning to Random Map regions this update! For every rotation, we try our best to base each of our decisions on map popularity rates, dodge rates, surveys, etc., but we’ve been receiving feedback that the extraction of certain maps from the random map pool was upsetting several players who enjoyed playing maps that were excluded from a rotation. Therefore, we’ve decided to implement your feedback by placing Deston back to the random map pool and taking Taego out for a bit.


Also, we can’t say much now, but we are planning a change to the map rotation system based on all your feedback sometime this year. With this update, every player from every region will be able to meet various maps at a faster pace. Until then, enjoy the return of Deston and Karakin this update!

Would you perhaps remember LABS: Thermal Scope Mode, where you had to fight in darkness using only infrared rays? Well we’ve collected your opinions based on our previous experimental mode and decided to add the popular feature to the snowy grounds: detect snooping players with the new THERMAL 4X SCOPE! (Shouldn’t it be your best friend in Moonlight weather?)

• The Thermal Scope utilizes heat signatures to help you detect obscured enemies more easily.
  • This includes enemies hiding in smoke, darkness, brush, etc.
• The Thermal Scope is a world spawn item.
• Available modes
  • Only available in Vikendi.
  • Training Mode, Normal Matches, Custom Matches
    • (PC) Available on every map through Sandbox Mode.

• Supply Drops have been added to Vikendi caves.
• To make the recently added natural disasters a bit more realistic, smoke and flame from throwables such as Smoke Grenades, Molotov, etc. will no longer work properly within the Blizzard Zone.
  • Players who are caught on fire will also not receive damage within the Blizzard Zone.
    • However, you will still receive initial damage when your body is hit with the Molotov.
• We’ve noticed the friendly Folded Shields seemed a bit too hidden in the snow. We’re digging them out by increasing their spawn rate by approximately 172%.
• Item spawn spots have been increased in Train Station, Villa, Castle, and Winery to further richen looting experience in various parts of Vikendi.

• Adjusted footstep and weapon sounds of the surface/underground so they sound more distinct from each other.

• Weapon Balance
  • We’ll be balancing the Mk12 a bit this update. Our graphs on weapon loot rate, kill rate, etc. were showing us Mk12’s overperformance over its other DMR fellows. Therefore, we’ve decided to go ahead with some healthy balance changes and made sure to adjust the Mk12 so that it’ll still remain a helpful, hard-hitting weapon but not outshining other options too much.
    • Damage: 51 -> 50
    • Initial Bullet Speed: 930m/s -> 900m/s
    • Recoil recovery: Reduced by approximately 6%.
    • Recoil speed: Increased by approximately 2%.
• Weapon spawn balance
  • We have adjusted the general spawn rates of 5.56mm and 7.62mm weapons (AR, DMR, LMG only) to have them share similar spawn rates, and to provide more primary weapon options to our players.
    • This spawn balance applies to every map and mode.
• Vehicle adjustments
  • Zima has been slightly sized up.
  • Vehicle models with open roofs such as the UAZ, Mirado, and Pickup Truck have been removed as they made drivers/passengers a bit too vulnerable.
  • Dacia and UAZ will now spawn in Taego.
  • Trunks have been added to Pickup Trucks and UAZ.
    • Capacity: 250
• An option to hide your in-game vest and belt has been added to settings.

We’d like to add a few extra words about the removal of UAZ, Mirado, and Pickup Truck’s roof-less models. As we have released and balanced many of our existing vehicles, we’ve noticed specific vehicle models and types needed some tidying up. So we’ve decided to stick to a single model only for the UAZ, Mirado, and Pickup Truck and keep their roofs on for better cover.

• (Console) We are looking into the issue where the sounds of vehicles and certain weapons do not play on the Xbox platform. Sound optimizations are ongoing and will be reflected in Update 22.1 and 22.2.

A new challenging Season of Ranked – Season 22 has arrived this update.

• The leaderboard will reset after the Live Server maintenance.
• Check out your final Tier from the previous season through your Career page.

Below are the rewards you’ll be receiving based on your final Tier from the previous Ranked season.

• TheParachute skin and Medals are permanent rewards.
• The rest of the obtainable rewards are available for use during a single Ranked season.
• Rewards can be found in your Inventory once Season 22 starts.

Intense Battle Royale is a fast-paced, mini battle royale LABS mode sustaining all the essential factors of our traditional battle royale system.


We’ve simplified several factors to reduce play time by a bunch – looting, long-distance traveling, number of enemies, and more. With these factors minimized, players will be able to focus more on the usual battle royale’s late-game intensity right off the bat and aim for the top among the other squads.


WE’VE UTILIZED THE CURRENT BATTLE ROYALE SYSTEM TO CREATE A CONTINUOUS ADRENALINE RUSH IN INTENSE BATTLE ROYALE. SINCE THERE’S ALWAYS ROOM FOR MORE IMPROVEMENTS IN THIS NEW MODE, WE’LL BE ACTIVELY MONITORING AND IMPLEMENTING YOUR FEEDBACK SO THAT WE CAN CONTINUE TO PROVIDE AN ENJOYABLE GAMEPLAY EXPERIENCE. The Featured Map queue was sustained to allow players to enjoy our winter wonderland whenever they wished, but at the same time we received continuous reports from certain regions on issues with Normal Match matchmakings.


We looked into matchmaking data and map usage rates based on these reports and proceeded to internal discussions – in conclusion, we decided it’d be best to prioritize active queues for a better gameplay experience for every player. Therefore, the Featured Map will be taken down from regions with random map selection starting this #21.2 live update.


Instead, Vikendi will be added to the Normal Match pool with an increased matching rate of 40% so players will still be able to meet and play Vikendi more often. There are even more new updates for Vikendi this #21.2, so we encourage you to try them out and leave us your feedback as always!

• Once you enter the Blizzard Zone…
  • You will move slower.
  • You will receive consistent damage per second.
  • Your sight and soundplay will be hindered.
  • Vehicle control will be harder.
• A Blizzard Zone warning message along with its activated area UI on the world map will show up on your screen during the match.
• Kill messages for the Blizzard Zone have been added.
• Available in Normal Matches and Custom Matches.
  • Available in Vikendi only.

The fierce Blizzard Zone is now available this update. This Vikendi-exclusive Zone has been designed based on the other maps’ Red/Black Zone’s features, activation phase and location, duration, size, damage, affected gameplay aspects, effect range and more. Watch out as the Blizzard Zone will definitely tatter your health, movement speed, soundplay and vision (including Scopes!) etc. so make sure to duck out of the hazardous Zone as soon as possible!




Scour deeply into the snow and perhaps you’ll stumble upon a SECRET ROOM full of high-tier items.

Land your hands on items you won’t be able to casually find on the map! Here’s a tip: as the risks are relatively high when you wish to get back out of the Secret Room, we’ve installed something handy inside so try to find and use it for a safer getaway!

The multidrops that were only witnessed in Taego will now be falling from Vikendi’s skies as well.

• Multiple care packages holding high-tier weapons, armor, consumables, and more will be randomly dropped during a match.

• Vikendi-exclusive road signs that can navigate you through the snow have been added throughout the map.
• The unused Cable Car station has been removed from the northeast part of Coal Mine.
• Item types have been updated and spawn spots have been increased in buildings with garages (that can only be opened using Crowbars).
• A few vehicles have been found to spawn overlapping with foliage or fences, so we have slightly moved their spawn spots to a more open area.

(1/20) WE ARE CURRENTLY LOOKING INTO AN ISSUE WHERE A LOSS OF GRASS WAS DISCOVERED AT A CERTAIN AREA IN SANHOK AFTER ITS UPDATES BELOW. THE FIX WILL BE APPLIED TO THE #22.1 UPDATE.

We’ve reflected a bunch of player and internal feedback regarding gameplay in Sanhok.

• ASCENDERShave been added to Cave and rock mountains.
  • Ascender Attachments will provided as starting items.

• An additional bridge connecting the northwest island and east island (Bootcamp) has been added.

• An additional bridge connecting the northwest island and southwest island (Ruins) has been added.
  • Made the area’s water deeper to allow you to swim across.

• Sanhok themed billboards have been added throughout the map.

• Sand terrain has been added to certain areas for a more convenient trek.

• Added even more general cover such as boulders and trees.

• Terrain and foliage texture have been generally improved.
• As we say goodbye to the end-of-year holidays, LINE FRIENDS decorations also take their leave from Paradise Resort.

• Additional boat spawn spots have been added to Ranked.
• Boat spawn locations have been slightly shifted closer to land for easier access.
  • This applies to both Normal and Ranked matches.

A few improvements to the Screen Ping Marker.

• Screen Ping Markers will be automatically deleted after 120 seconds (previously 30).
• A player’s Screen Ping Marker will be instantly removed if they leave the match or lose connection.

• Previously, you were only able to report players who killed you or players you’re spectating. Now, you can report players who ASSISTED in killing you.
  • Click the Report button located on the bottom of your death screen → Select the assisted player.

Pretty good at beating up your friends at the 1v1 Arena? You can now show off your winning streak (WIN) starting this update!

• Winning streaks at the 1v1 Arena will now be recorded after the live server update.
• The winning streak UI will be shown on the following screens:
  • Lower left of your screen during a 1v1 Arena match
  • Below your nickname on every Round Finished screen
  • Below your nickname on the Match Finished screen
  • Top of spectator’s screens
• Your winning streak will be reset to 0 once you lose a 1v1 Arena match.
• A tied result will not affect your winning streak.
• 1v1 Arena matches that end due to the Training Mode session’s time out will result in a tie and not affect your winning streak.
• Winning streaks are separately recorded for normal Training sessions and Custom Matches.

Map-related UI has been added to Normal Matches and Ranked.

• The name of the map you’re playing will show on the screen once you enter the starting island.
• Map name, mode, and perspective information have been added to the top left screen of the world map.
  • This information will be removed once you board the plane.
• Available in Normal Matches and Ranked.

• Updated every map’s minimap image to the newest versions on the map selection page.
• Certain information has been updated in Career – Overview (Ranked) – About Ranked.

So today we’ve prepared an additional Q&A session that’ll respond to some more Vikendi Reborn questions!

Q. I BELIEVE GAMEPLAY STYLES DISTINCTLY DIFFER PER MAP, ESPECIALLY WHEN ENVIRONMENTAL FEATURES SEEM TO GREATLY AFFECT THE BATTLEGROUNDS. WHAT GAMEPLAY STYLES DID THE TEAM EXPECT FOR VIKENDI REBORN?


A. (SEUNGKYU KIM) Vehicle play and highland advantages are definitely important factors for the traditional 8x8km sized maps, but Vikendi Reborn also brings you a distinct gameplay style with its unique geographical and environmental factors. Seizing the highlands and diving for cover would be helpful in the northern part of the map, and being strategic and using slopes to hide vehicles or using items such as smoke grenades, Folded Shield, etc. in the relatively flat, southern area. Furthermore, you can also use the Cable Cars to make it harder for enemies to predict your next move.


Q. HAVE YOU INTENTIONALLY CREATED HOT DROP LOCATIONS FOR VIKENDI REBORN TO LURE GROUPS OF PLAYERS? AND WHERE ARE THESE HOT DROPS?


A. (SEUNGKYU KIM) The main hot drop would be the Train Station located in the middle of the map. The Observatory, Lumber Yard, and Dinoland could also be popular hot drops. Big cities and towns are scattered on the outer area of the map, and large house sets are positioned near the center of the map to lure in more players.


Q. DO YOU HAVE ANY AREA RECOMMENDATIONS OR HELPFUL TIPS FOR NEWBIES?


A. (GIHWAN PARK) I’d like to recommend the Coal Mine located in the northwest. It is a town consisted of large container buildings holding relatively easy-to-loot items, and as it’s located in the outer area so we’d expect fewer enemies to accompany your fall. Additionally, it’s easier to move on to the inner areas of the map once you’re done at the Coal Mine. And what’s best, if you don’t have a vehicle, there’s a train right at the entrance – and if you happen to miss your ride, there’s always the romantic Cable Cars.


Q. I NOTICED RELATIVELY UNUSED ITEMS SUCH AS THE JAMMER PACK SEEMED TO BE USEFUL IN DESTON. DID YOU HAVE ANY OTHER SPECIFIC ITEMS PLANNED OR DISCUSSED FOR VIKENDI REBORN?


A. (GIHWAN PARK) For Vikendi, we expect a lot of engagements to occur on land. Therefore the BZ Grenade or the Folded Shield could be frequently used – you can throw BZ Grenades at enemies hiding behind boulders or trees, which we already often witness among our players. The Folded Shield is also intended to help you protect yourself especially when you’re fighting on vulnerable land. For example, you can install the Folded Shield beside your vehicle, or perhaps block the open entrance of the Cable Car you’re riding.


Q. YOU’VE ADDED MANY NEW FEATURES TO VIKENDI REBORN SUCH AS THE BLIZZARD ZONE, ASCENDERS, WEATHER, CABLE CARS, AND MORE. BUT I’M WORRIED THIS BIG UPDATE MAY ALSO BRING IN-GAME BUGS OR LAGS. HAS THE TEAM COME UP WITH ANY PLANS TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING?


A. (YINJEONG JUNG) Vikendi was released after proven world performance through profiling, asset memory/type optimization, and more. Actually, there used to be an additional Cable Car route installed to the map but we removed it as we discovered risks during our map performance test in the early stages of development. We are continuously running multiple tests and analyzing possible risks to stabilize your gameplay experience as best we can.



Q. I THINK THE MOUNTAIN BIKE BRINGS A LOT OF FUN TO PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS! ARE YOU POSSIBLY THINKING OF ADDING SKIS OR SNOWBOARDS TO VIKENDI REBORN?


A. (GIHWAN PARK / SEUNGKYU KIM) Skis or snowboards were included in our early development ideas, but we unfortunately have no current plans to add them to this update.


Q. VIKENDI REBORN’S COMEBACK BR SYSTEM SEEMS A LOT DIFFERENT FROM TAEGO’S AS PLAYERS ARE GIVEN THREE COMEBACK BR OPPORTUNITIES. NOT ONLY THAT, ITEMS WILL NOT RESET PER COMEBACK BR PHASE. COULD YOU LET US KNOW YOUR INTENTIONS TO THIS CHANGE, AND WHAT YOU’D EXPECT FROM YOUR PLAYERS?


A. (YOONJI CHUNG) Since you’ll be using the same arena for each phase, we believed it’d be more realistic to leave traces of the previous battle. We also wish to witness more dynamic gameplay patterns by creating different environments in the same arena. But as players in the last Comeback BR may suffer from a lack of items, we are showering Comeback BR Multidrops every phase and leaving previous deathboxes/multidrops as they are. Remember, only the brave who dares to try for the Multidrops can leave the Comeback BR arena with rich loot!


Q. NEW WEAPONS SUCH AS THE G36C AND MP5K WERE PREVIOUSLY RELEASED IN VIKENDI. WOULD THERE BE NEW WEAPONS FOR VIKENDI REBORN AS WELL?


A. (DAHYUN KWON) We currently do not have plans to release new weapons for Vikendi Reborn.


Q. WILL THERE BE A WEAPON BALANCE UPDATE FOR VIKENDI REBORN? I’M CURIOUS TO KNOW WHAT’S BEEN DISCUSSED REGARDING WEAPON AND SPAWN BALANCES, AND IF YOU HAVE ANY FUTURE PLANS.


A. (DAHYUN KWON) Since weapon balance updates affect every map, we do not have specific balance updates planned for Vikendi Reborn. As Vikendi Reborn expanded to a 8x8km map, looting spots have also been adjusted and spawn balances have been measured in coordination with Ranked’s system to provide a more consistent experience. We’ll continue to look into spawn rates and decide whether to proceed with balance adjustments for future updates.



Q. WILL OTHER MAPS ALSO RECEIVE A REMAKE UPDATE? CAN SMALLER MAPS ALSO BE EXPANDED TO BIGGER SIZED MAPS?


A. (TAEHYUN KIM) As of now, we are not planning any huge remakes. We believe small maps have their distinct, entertaining aspects thanks to their size – therefore, we are also not planning to expand any smaller maps either.



Q. WE WERE RECENTLY INTRODUCED TO AN UPDATE TO THE NORMAL MATCH MATCHMAKING SYSTEM; DO YOU HAVE ANY UPDATES FOR A FEATURE TO SHOW US WHAT OUR MMR IS?


A. (SANGKYUN KIM) It is quite rare for a game company to reveal their internal MMR and its calculation logic. We do not have any plans to implement this feature.

Q. DO WE RECEIVE DAMAGE WHEN WE’RE INSIDE A BUILDING WITHIN THE BLIZZARD ZONE?


A. For a realistic depiction of winter’s brutality, we have designed the Blizzard Zone to affect players’ health, movement speed, etc. even when they’re inside a building.


Q. WILL THE OLD SNOWMOBILE RETURN TO VIKENDI REBORN?


A. As you may have already seen in our teaser video, the Snowmobile has returned even better and faster.


Q. IS THERE A POSSIBILITY THAT VIKENDI WILL BE ADDED TO RANKED AND ESPORTS?


A. It’s difficult to provide a firm answer, but it may be highly possible if players consistently enjoy playing Vikendi.


Q. ARE BUILDINGS ADDED TO GLACIER AREAS? HOW ARE THE BUILDING OBJECTS STRUCTURED?


A. Lab Camps (where researchers work) are scattered around the glacier areas, along with the Observatory located on the right.


Q. AREN’T THERE TOO MANY COMEBACK BR PHASES IN VIKENDI? WHAT’LL BE CHANGED FROM THE CURRENT COMEBACK BR SYSTEM?


A. There is only one Comeback BR Phase in Taego, but players in Vikendi can enter up to three Comeback BR Phases during the first phase of the match. Therefore, players who die in the main arena will no longer have to wait for so long.


Q. I’VE NOTICED A HUGE RIDGE PLACED BETWEEN THE COMEBACK BR ARENA AND THE MAIN ISLAND. WHAT IS THAT FOR? 


A. A snowy ridge has been placed to naturally divide the main arena with the Comeback BR arena.


Q. IS THERE A NEW GHILLIE SUIT FOR VIKENDI REBORN?


A. You’ll be able to find the white Ghillie Suit for Vikendi. 


Q. CAN WE ENGAGE FROM CABLE CARS MOVING OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS?


A. Panzerfausts will most likely spawn in Cable Cars, so make sure to gear up and engage when you can!


Q. WILL COMEBACK BRS BE IMPLEMENTED TO OTHER MAPS?


A. We are monitoring and reflecting player/internal feedback to further improve the Comeback BR system. The Comeback BR can be added to other maps once significant improvements are made.


Q. THE SNOW IN VIKENDI HAD ORIGINALLY BEEN REMOVED DUE TO NEGATIVE COMMUNITY FEEDBACK. CAN WE EXPECT SOME IMPROVEMENTS SINCE THE SNOW TERRAIN’S COMING BACK?


A. We were concerned about Vikendi’s map theme and community feedback when we ended up removing the snow from Vikendi. As we add the snow back into Vikendi Reborn, we utilized various environmental aspects, the clouds’ shadows, etc. to reduce the eye strain players may receive.


Q. ARE THE SIZE OF BLIZZARD ZONES RANDOM? 


A. The size of Blizzard Zones are fixed, and the spawn period will be identical to the Red Zone’s. The number and spawn location of Blizzard Zones are random. 


Q. WILL THERE BE A SECRET CAVE IN VIKENDI REBORN?


A. There will be Secret Rooms in Vikendi Reborn. Each location will be displayed on the minimap, but why ruin the fun when you can discover them on your own?


Q. WILL HELMETS (LEVEL 3) WORLD SPAWN IN VIKENDI REBORN AS WELL?


A. Helmets (Level 3) will not world spawn, but Molotov Cocktails will have a high spawn rate to enhance Vikendi’s wintery traits. 


Q. WILL THE THERMAL SCOPE BE ADDED TO VIKENDI REBORN?


A. The moonlight weather update is upcoming along with the Thermal Scope.


Q. ARE THERE ANY PLANS TO RELEASE NEW SURVIVOR PASSES / PROGRESSIVE WEAPON SKINS WITH THE VIKENDI REBORN CONCEPT?


A. No plans for progressive weapon skins, but definitely yes for a new Survivor Pass. We’ll also be adding some end-of-year holiday items.


Q. DO YOU HAVE ANY ADDITIONAL COMMENTS REGARDING THE RECENT MMR UPDATE?


We first wish to apologize to the players. We tried our best, but issues occurred and we face disappointment as well – we are currently looking into resolving the issue with high priority. We communicate and disclose our data with our players, but we hope you understand it is difficult to disclose specific information regarding cheat programs. We are looking into improving our current MMR system as we discovered several spots that could be better. We will do our best to provide our players a safe gameplay environment. Thank you for your feedback.


Q. HOW LONG DID IT TAKE TO CREATE VIKENDI REBORN? 


A. Approximately a year, starting from concept creation to actual development.


Q. CAN WE OBTAIN ITEMS ONLY FOUND IN CARE PACKAGES WITH THE NEW CROWBAR INTERACTION SYSTEM?


A. Care Package items will not spawn in places that can be opened with Crowbars. But other valuable items are definitely waiting to be looted!


Q. ARE THERE ANY UNIQUE FACTORS WHEN DRIVING IN VIKENDI REBORN?


A. With the Vikendi Reborn update, vehicle tires such as the Zima, etc. have been replaced with sturdy tires prepared for winter.


Q. SINCE WE NOW HAVE THE BLIZZARD ZONE IN VIKENDI REBORN, CAN OTHER ZONES LIKE SANDSTORMS OR TORNADOES APPEAR IN OTHER MAPS AS WELL?


A. Ideas such as these are always a part of our plans, but the stage where we can test out their feasibility is where we need more time.


Q. DO DEVS REFER TO PARTNERS’ CONTENT WHEN DEVELOPING MAPS?


A. Our devs all love PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, so they of course enjoy watching and sharing our Partners’ videos and streams.
