Last September, we introduced Arena Mode, our take on the classic arena shooter game mode where teams face off across several rounds, purchasing their gear with earned currency and fight to survive as long as possible.
We received a ton of great feedback on this mode and are now happy to roll out the upgraded version for everyone to try out. One of the major issues we saw was that it became quite difficult to mount any sort of comeback once your team had lost a round and all their items. In fact, your chances of winning the overall game sharply dropped with even one loss. We've taken some steps to make losing a match a little less punishing while also rewarding teams who are able to make it through without losing at all. We hope this helps strike a fair balance and makes the Arena a more exciting place.
Let’s take a look at what Arena Mode the 2nd Iteration has in store.
Arena Mode - 2nd Iteration Changes
Since the last test, we have been receiving requests for a TPP version of Arena Mode. For this test, we'll be trying out TPP to see what different gameplay patterns it brings out and the different experience it can provide.
Perspective - TPP
Only available in TPP.
Changes in default pistol
Changed default pistol to P18C.
For the first Arena Mode, we received feedback that players with the default P1911 pistol did not stand a chance against players with purchased weapons. As such, we’ve replaced it with the P18C, which comes with an auto fire mode.
Loadout store improvements
Adjusted the amount of ammo given when purchasing a weapon.
Increased helmet price, which is now higher than the vest.
Starting from Round Four, weapons purchased from the loadout store will include attachments.
Players on a winning streak will earn bonus rewards accordingly and the teams who don’t lose any chances before the final round will be rewarded with an upgraded loadout store which has the following items:
Care Package items.
Special consumables like Adrenaline Syringe and the First Aid Kits.
Pistols and shotguns can now be found under the same category.
Loadout point balance adjustment
Reduced points earned for a kill from 150 to 100.
Reduced end of round points earned (both win/lose).
Since squads with fewer players are at a disadvantage, they will earn more kill points depending on their squad size.
Considering player feedback on how hard it is to win the next round after losing your items upon defeat, you’ll now get a small bonus to help you rebuy the gear you need.
UX improvements
To help reduce confusion during combat, we’re disabling kill feed messages from the other arenas, so now only events within your current arena will be shown.
There were quite a few players leaving the game after losing their first chance, thinking the game was over. We’ve added a message to let players know they’re still in it!
When starting a new round, map features such as zoom option and markers will revert to default.
Addition of the reporting system
Players in spectate mode can now report other players for cheating or behavior that goes against our Rules of Conduct.
Schedule
PC January 13 - January 18 4pm KST 2021 January 12 - January 17 11pm PST January 13 - January 18 8am CET

For more details on the rules of Arena Mode, you can check out our Previous Announcement.
We hope these changes will make for a more fun and rewarding Arena Mode experience, but are excited to hear what you think as well! Drop into the new Arena Mode and give it a try. Afterwards, let us know what you think so we can continue to improve it!

New Feature: Reputation System
Keeping in-game interactions healthy is important to us. We know passions can run high on the Battlegrounds, but toxic behavior is never justified. To help keep things more civil while you kill each other, we're introducing a new Reputation System to PUBG. This system will assign you a Reputation Level from 0-5 depending on how you treat your fellow players. Your Reputation Level will be displayed in the Team Finder, giving players searching for a group an idea of what kind of teammate you'll be. Your Reputation Level will naturally increase as you play games, as long as you are not exhibiting toxic or otherwise disruptive behavior. We hope this helps everyone have a better time on the Battlegrounds!
Reputation level will be displayed in the Team Finder and team member list next to player's names.
Reputation levels are indicative of perceived player behavior. Are you friendly, or are you toxic? Let's hope the former.
Reputation levels range from 0 to 5, for a total of 6 levels.
Reputation level is affected by the following factors:
Player's reputation level will naturally increase through normal gameplay in Normal and Ranked Mode Battle Royale matches.
Leaving matches repeatedly and failing to return may lead to your reputation level decreasing.
Player’s reputation level can be decreased when reported for negative behavior (obstructing gameplay, verbal abuse, team killing, etc.) or when banned due to violation of terms of service.
Being reported for suspected use of cheats itself does not affect reputation level.
Ranked Mode Update
We're updating Ranked Mode leaver penalties to allow players some leeway to leave without punishment in certain situations. You can check out all the details around the system and how it works below.
Leaver penalties should be waived for players who are still ALIVE and leave within 5 minutes after the plane takes off if the player :
(1) Queued for Squads, requesting matchmaking find them additional teammates AND
(2) the plane then takes off with an incomplete team (team of less than 4 players in Ranked Squad Mode), AND
(3) a member of the player's premade team hasn't left the match before the plane leaves.
If a player qualifies to have their leaver penalty waived by leaving the match, then the match is considered to be competitively invalid for that player. This means:
No stats are recorded on their Career page
No change is made to their RP
No matchmaking penalties are issued
Players will be granted any Pass XP and BP they would have earned as normal

Our first LABS experiment of the year is coming soon! To kick things off, we’re dropping a new attachment into the game and bringing back a special weather setting to show it off in! Introducing the Thermal Scope!
Unlike existing telescopic sights, the Thermal Scope detects infrared rays emitted by objects and makes them stand out against their backgrounds. Thanks to this new equipment, players are now able to better detect enemies obscured by darkness, smoke, or trees and bushes, which can be difficult with the existing scopes.
Since the Thermal Scope is best utilized in areas of low light, we’re bringing back Moonlight Mode on Vikendi for this test! Full details on the mode can be found below.
LABS: Thermal Scope Mode
The new Thermal Scope will be world-spawned loot.
The Thermal Scope uses heat signatures to help you find obscured enemies more easily.
This includes enemies hiding in smoke, darkness, brush, etc.
Service schedule
January 7, 14:00 KST - January 11, 16:00 KST / January 7, 05:00 UTC - January 11, 07:00 UTC
LABS: Thermal Scope Mode will be available for both PC/Console during the service schedule stated above.
Settings
Vikendi - Moonlight
BR Rules of the existing world will be applied.
FPP or TPP, Squad mode
1-man Squad mode is also available.
Maximum number of players: 100
If a session lacks players after a certain amount of time, it will start to fill remaining slots with bots.
Notes when playing in LABS
LABS games do not provide BP or XP for gameplay rewards.
LABS gameplay will not be applied to Career.
LABS gameplay will not count for your Survivor Pass missions.
As always PUBG LABS lets you try out experimental game modes or features in various states of development, none of which are guaranteed to make their way into the full game.
Drop into PUBG LABS and try out the new Thermal Scope on Moonlit Vikendi today!

Ever since PUBG’s Early Access back in March 2017, we’ve worked to improve all aspects of the game. One focus over the years has been the game’s sound, a key part of making the Battlegrounds feel as real as possible, while giving you the information you need to take home the chicken.
As we continued to make changes, some players found that our new sounds, while more realistic to the weapon’s sound in the real world, were not the sounds that they had come to know and love for PUBG. With our focus on realism, we were hesitant to simply revert the changes and instead looked for ways to improve the newer sounds.
Despite our efforts however, there was still a significant number of players who preferred the old sounds. We’ve been discussing how best to address this problem so that we can achieve our creative vision of realism while also listening to some of our most dedicated players. Here is what we’ve come up with:
A new menu will be added to the game settings that gives an option to choose between the old and new sounds for specific weapons.
Four weapons, the M249, M416, SKS and Kar98k, can be adjusted. (The UMP is not included as its sound was replaced due to an ammo change.)
We’re looking to have this ready for the February 2021 update, as we still need some time to develop, optimize, and verify the system.
We thank you for your patience as we explored our options with these sounds. Now that we have a solution decided upon, we’ll work towards getting it ready for you as soon as possible through our normal development process.
Sound is a very important part of PUBG and we’ll continue to do our best to provide a more enjoyable and seamless sound experience.
NEW MAP: HAVEN[/h1] Welcome to Haven, an industrial island in the rust belt of America.
Here, players will take each other on in the dense, urban streets and rooftops but this haven is anything but safe. Players will be faced with a new threat during their matches, an enemy faction working against them. This faction, named Pillar, is heavily armed and is none too happy about you being on their turf. You'll have to avoid the Pillar Scout Helicopter attempting to track and spot survivors from the sky. Those unlucky enough to be caught by its spotlight will need to move quickly to avoid the Pillar Tactical Truck as it closes in and attempts to quickly eliminate its target with bullets and fire. Finally, players will have to deal with Pillar Guards and Commanders. These soldiers are heavily armored, but those who manage to take them down can find powerful gear in the caches they guard.
Haven is a dense, 1x1 urban map and supports up to 32 players at a time in Duos or 1-Man Duos.
The Districts of Haven
Carbon SteelworksAt the center of Haven, we find a massive mill- the Carbon Steelworks Complex. Explore it's fiery depths to secure precious loot, or use your parkour skills to explore the rooftop! This location offers gunplay at all ranges, but be sure to check those dark corners!
Coal Yards An industrial wasteland: traverse material piles, climb cranes, and make sure you aren't too noticeable under the florescent lights. The Coal Yards are a sniper's paradise!
Industrial Zone To the North, players will explore the Industrial Zone. Comprised of factories, chemical manufacturers, and storage facilities, players must navigate long range encounters in the field, and brutal closed quarter combat indoors.
] Residential Zone Explore the heart of Haven- the Residential Zone. Fight to the very top of our high-rise apartments, and use the tactical parachute to float down to the crowded streets below, and be careful- the Pillar Tactical patrols Main Street!
OverpassRunning through the center of Haven, the Overpass serves 2 functions. If you go under- you are shielded from the Scout Helicopter, but will encounter other players. If over- you are most likely alone, but a sitting target for the Scout! Choose wisely!
DocksTo the West, the well-lit docks provide generous cover, and traversal opportunities for players to take advantage of! And players who don't mind a high risk/reward gameplay can use the old barges as a shortcut!
Seasonal Match
Haven is a Seasonal Map only available for the duration of Season 10.
Haven is only available during Season 10.
TPP & FPP.
FPP only for NA and SA
32 players each match.
No normal bots in the map acting as players, or included in the player count.
Duo Mode only, including 1-Man Duo.
Match length is shorter than other maps. You'll earn around 70% of the BP compared to a full-length match on another map.
You can work towards Mastery, Survivor Pass and BattleStat progress in Haven but your stats aren't recorded in the Career tab.
Pillar Guards and Commanders
Beware of the Pillar, an enemy faction offering an entirely new gameplay element not seen in existing Battlegrounds. Guards and Commanders are distinct looking opposition which protect certain areas of the map, working as an additional factor you have to contend with while fighting against other players to claim the Chicken Dinner.
Members of Pillar protect their respective areas and attack players on sight.
Pillar Guards hold basic equipment while Pillar Commanders hold top-tier equipment.
Once attacked, they send backup requests to Pillar Scout Helicopters which can then in turn alert the Pillar Tactical.
Spawns only in Haven.
Pillar Supply Cache
The Pillar Supply Cache replaces Care Packages, and require cache keys to be looted.
Players can gain cache keys from defeating Pillar Commanders.
Once the cache is opened, all players can approach the cache and loot it.

A spotlight is shone directly on detected players and their position is relayed directly to Pillar Tactical. Pillar Tactical then move out towards the highlighted players to launch their assault.

Pillar Tactical
This scary piece of equipment roams around Haven and attacks players on sight. The Pillar Tactical cannot be destroyed, so if you run into one, don't try to fight it - just run away! This big beast even shoots fire bombs to attack players hiding behind cover in front of it.
Pillar Tactical communicates with other members of Pillar, responding to calls for backup and joining in engagements.
Spawns only in Haven.
Emergency Parachute
Emergency Parachutes can be found around Haven and used to quickly descend from high places and prevent fall damage. Don't forget to deploy the parachute when making that daring rooftop escape, because they won't deploy by themselves.
This is a single-use item which fills the belt slot of your inventory.
Spawns only in Haven.

Matchmaking Changes
PUBG has several different game modes and two perspectives, this means there are lots of queues which need to be filled with players. Unfortunately, this can cause players to be spread too thin in some regions and cause lengthy matchmaking times and an otherwise poor experience.
Since the induction of Solo Ranked mode, we've been heavily monitoring the health of Ranked matchmaking queues specifically in each region and have decided to make some changes which we believe will have a positive impact on the overall health of Ranked long-term. We completely understand the removal of a queue you play can be very frustrating and we apologize if that is the case for you.
We're continuingly looking at ways to improve your Ranked experience and we'd love to hear your feedback and suggestions.
The following queues will be available for Season 10:
You can now switch to TPP after winning an FPP match to better celebrate your win.
Before, it was difficult to see your victory pose and awesome skins when winning a game in FPP.
Now, after winning a game in FPP, use the Toggle Perspective key (V) to switch to TPP and celebrate your victory.
Boost Heal Animation Improvements
To better visualize the affects of boosts, the Heal icon animation speed now changes between 4 speed intervals based on your boost level,
A quick reminder of the 4 boost levels and their effects:
Level 1: Heal 1 HP every 8 seconds
Level 2: Heal 2 HP every 8 seconds
Level 3: Heal 3 HP every 8 seconds and adds a 2,5% character speed boost
Level 4: Heal 4 HP every 8 seconds and adds a 5% character speed boost
Mastery Medals
New Mastery medals are now available.
Previous weapon mastery medals felt to us a bit underwhelming and difficult to show off to other players, so we've made revamped the mastery medals to make them more feel more worthwhile to work towards and show off to your squad.
You can earn Mastery medals when meeting specific conditions during games, so put on your try-hard pants and rack up some achievements!
View Mastery medals in Career - Medals.
There are Combat, Survival, and Commemoration medals.
15 medals are available to earn.
Earned Mastery Medals can be upgraded to a new look after fulfilling specific conditions.
You can only earn medals in Normal and Ranked matches.
There are medals you can continue to earn in a single match by meeting the conditions and medals you can only earn once per match.

Each year, we bring together the best in PUBG esports from all around the world to compete for the ultimate chicken dinner. We started out in 2018 with the first ever PUBG GLOBAL INVITATIONAL in Berlin, and in 2019 celebrated the first ever PUBG GLOBAL CHAMPIONSHIP.
However, due to the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic, we’d previously announced that we’d be postponing this year’s PUBG GLOBAL SERIES (PGS) and instead chose to hold the PUBG CONTINENTAL SERIES. While it wasn’t the same format we’d delivered in previous years, we’re thrilled so many of you have enjoyed and participated in the PCS action!
Now it’s time to look forward to 2021. We’ve taken the last year to dive into what makes a PUBG esports tournament fun and exciting, while also paying special attention to how that can be done in a safe manner for our players, fans, and staff. The result, we’re happy to announce, is the return of the PUBG GLOBAL INVITATIONAL, or PGI.S as we’re calling it!
What is the PUBG GLOBAL INVITATIONAL.S?
PGI.S takes 2018’s tournament and molds it into an 8-week esports festival where players from around the world come together and compete for a massive $3.5 million dollar prize pool.
So what does the S stand for? Lots of things, actually. The S is Survival, the core of what makes Battle Royale. It also represents the new Series format of PGI. It’s Supremacy, it’s Showmanship, it’s a global Showdown, and perhaps most importantly, it’s Safety. We’re taking big steps to ensure that PGI.S is our best tournament yet while making sure everyone stays safe.
PGI.S Details
PGI.S will be the longest global PUBG esports festival to date, lasting 8 consecutive weeks from February 2nd to March 28th, 2021. This year, we’re inviting 32 teams from around the world to join us in the Republic of Korea to participate in our safe tournament format. The total amount of prize pool will be 3.5 Million USD with 30% of the profit earned from Pick’em challenge to be added later on.
Regional Seeds 32 teams from around the world will be invited to PGI.S from the regions listed below. Full team list will be released at a later date.
Europe: 7 Teams
China: 6 Teams
Southeast Asia: 5 Teams
North America: 4 Teams
South Korea: 4 Teams
Latin America: 2 Teams
Japan: 2 Teams
Chinese Taipei: 2 Teams
PGI.S Match Details
PGI.S is made of two parts. Weekly Survival and Weekly Final.
During the first week, all teams will participate in preliminary 'Rank Decision' matches to decide their placement, with the top 16 teams participating in the first Weekly Survival match.
Weekly Survival will be held for a total of 16 matches during weekdays to select 16 Chicken Dinner winners.
16 teams with Chicken Dinners from the Weekly Survival will earn prize money and a spot in the Weekly Finals.
Once a team earns a spot in the Weekly Finals, the next highest ranked team from the waiting list takes their place in Weekly Survival and the next match begins.
Weekly Finals will have a total of 10 matches and a larger amount of prize money on the line, which teams will earn based on their performance.
The team with the most amount of prize money after 6 8 weeks will be the final champions of PGI.S.
*More detailed rules will be shared in an upcoming announcement.
COVID-19 Safety Precautions
We’re taking several very important steps to ensure that everyone participating in PGI.S can do so without risk or worry. We want our players and staff to have a safe environment so they can concentrate on the tournament.
We’ve built two weeks of quarantine time into team schedules immediately after they arrive and we’ll be providing various services to help keep everyone comfortable during their isolation. Furthermore, we’ll be following all government guidelines and safety precautions while enacting our own strengthened safety measures wherever possible.
Thank You!
As always, we thank you for your endless support, lifting up each new PUBG esports tournament far beyond our expectations. This last year has been difficult for many but your dedication and passion have made it a great year for PUBG esports, despite the difficulties and hardships people are facing. We’ll be back with more information on PGI.S soon, so stay tuned!
