Earlier this week we announced the open beta test for custom matches. This is something that many people have been waiting for a long time, and we’re sure a ton of you are eager to try out creating your own games!
With so many options and settings to play around with, some of you will probably feel a bit lost when setting up your first ever custom match. For that reason, we’ve created the user guide below to help explain how it all works.
As mentioned above, this is an open beta test, so keep in mind that there may be various changes made to the system over time. We’ll likely tweak things to reflect your feedback. Other changes in consideration of server or game stability may come as well (such as limitations on total number of sessions, or conditions for creating custom matches).
For now, let’s get into the details!
Table of Contents

Create Match – Normal Mode
Name your custom match and set it to either public or private.
Select a game mode (normal is the standard “battle royale” experience).
Select a preset—more of these will be made available over time.
These are default settings which are necessary to create any custom match.
The game will be created on the regional server location selected on the lobby screen.
Note: Currently a minimum of 10 players are required before being able to start the match.
Once the lobby is created, you can then access the following settings via the “Match Setting” button.
Normal Mode - Basic Settings
You can change your custom match name here.
Choose whether your session will be public or private (with a password).
Displays selected server region. It will default to the region you’ve set on the main menu lobby screen and can’t be changed here.
Set the current game mode preset (not implemented yet, but will be updated in the future).
Select the map.
Select the perspective you want your match to be played in.
Set the max player limit for your match. 10 players are required before the match can start.
Set the number of players per team.
Set the weather for the match.
Set the spectate function to public or private.
Basic Mode - Rules Settings
“DBNO” refers to “Down But Not Out.” If turned off, kills will be instant (no “knocks”)
Adjust the amount of time required to revive downed players.
This controls how quickly downed players bleed out.
Adjust damage inflicted by friendly fire. Make it a lot... or not a lot!
This sets how quickly the blue zone will move during each phase. Leave this at 1x if you want to change the speed of each phase individually.
Set the delay for when the next safe zone will appear.
This setting controls the time until the blue zone starts moving once the next circle has been shown.
Adjust how fast the blue zone moves during each phase .
Set how much damage the blue zone deals.
This number controls how small each safe zone will be compared to the previous safe zone. (0.1 will make it 10% the size of the previous safe zone).
The number indicates the likelihood of the next safe zone appearing closer to the center of the current circle (10 creates the next safe zone right in the center). For the first phase, setting this to 10 will make the safe zone appear in the center of the map.
Adjust the probability of the center of the next safe zone being on land (e.g. 0.1 for 10%, 0.5 for 50%)
This indicates the total round time.
Choose whether to display the location of the final safe zone (only works if the “END CIRCLE LOCATION FIX RATIO” is set to somewhere between 1% and 100%
Adjust the probability that the final blue zone will end within the “END CIRCLE LOCATION” parameters set for town/field/mountain. If set to 0, the end circle location will be completely random.
Adjust the probability that the final blue zone will be centered in a city or town.
Adjust the probability that the final blue zone will be centered in a field.
Adjust the probability that the final blue zone will be centered on a mountain.
Toggle the redzone on or off.
Set how quickly the first redzone will appear, compared to normal.
Set the frequency of redzones, how often they appear on the map.
Adjust how much warning time you’ll be given before the redzone’s bombs start to drop, once the redzone is shown on the map.
Adjust how long each redzone will last.
Set the size of each redzone.
Adjust how many bombs fall in each redzone (a higher number means more boom).
Set the spawn rate for care packages (set to 0 to turn them off entirely).
Allow special care packages to be called using flareguns.
Adjust the number of items contained in the care packages called using flareguns
Adjust the total number of special care packages available to be dropped per phase when shooting a flaregun inside the safe zone (white circle). Remaining available air drops will be rolled over into the next phase.
Adjust the total number of armored vehicles available to be dropped per phase when shooting the flaregun outside the safe zone (white circle).
Remaining available air drops will be rolled over into the next phase. When this is set as -99, it will reset the accumulated crates available.
Choose whether to automatically convert dead players to observers. The option labelled “ONLY HOST” means that only the creator of the custom match will be converted to an observer upon death.
Toggle killer spectating on or off.
Normal Mode - Spawn Settings
Adjust item spawn ratio and the total spawn amount of all items. There’s three overarching options here which we can explain quickly:
“Fixed Ratio & Adjustable Total Number” means that when you adjust the multiplier for any given item, it only affects the spawn rate of that item.
“Adjustable Ratio & Fixed Total Number” means that the overall number of items spawned will be the same no matter what. So when you adjust the multiplier for any given item, it affects how often it spawns relative to other items.
“Adjustable Ratio & Adjustable Total Number” allows you to adjust the overall spawn rate for all items while also adjusting the relative spawn rate of items within that pool.
Adjust spawn rates for specific items. For each item category (like “Ammunitions” or “Weapons”) you can also adjust the overall spawn rate for that type of item. Setting “Ammunitions” to 0 means that no ammunition of any type will spawn.
Adjust spawn rate of land-based vehicles, compared to normal settings.
Adjust spawn rate of water-based vehicles, compared to normal settings.
Custom Match - Zombie Mode
Name your custom match and set it to either public or private (with a password).
Select Zombie Mode.
Zombie Mode - Basic Settings
Set the total number of players on the Human team.
Determines whether zombies can attack each other.
Create Match - War Mode
Name your custom match and set it to either public or private (with a password).
Select War Mode.
Select a preset—more of these will be made available over time.

Set the number of players per team.
Set the weather for the match.
Set the spectate function to public or private.
War Mode - Rule Settings
Set a target score as one possible win condition.
Choose a time limit. This will cause the match to end even if no team has reached the “goal score.” If that happens, the team with the highest score wins.
Toggle on/off the option to stop teams from spawning if all players in the team are eliminated. “DBNO” refers to “Down But Not Out.” If turned off, kills will be instant (no “knocks”).
Adjust the amount of time required to revive downed players.
This controls how quickly downed players bleed out.
Set how much health players will have after being revived.
If set to “Static,” the blue zone won’t ever move in during the match. If set to “WARROYALE” the safe zone will shrink over the course of the match.
Adjust this number to increase or decrease the size of the safe zone.
Set the respawn type (for now it’s limited to “AIR,” which means you spawn in the plane).
Set the respawn type (for now it’s limited to “AIR,” which means you spawn in the plane).
Set the respawn timer. Respawns will happen in waves at intervals of the time you choose.
Select the default loadout kit to spawn with (this includes your first drop).
We’ve talked a lot about PGI and the 20 teams that will be competing for their share of the $2 million USD prize pool, but we haven’t talked much about some of the other events happening during the tournament. Today, we’re announcing one of those events, the PGI Charity Showdown!
The PGI Charity Showdown combines some of the biggest streamers from around the world with professional players competing in the tournament. Each squad will face off to earn money for the charity of their choice, with a $1 million USD total prize pool. Featured streamers include Shroud, Ninja, DrDisRespect, Moondye, Rubiu5, Willyrex, Sacriel, and many more!
Prize Money
Top placing teams will evenly split the prize pool for their charities as follows:
1st Place: $600,000 ($150,000 per player)
2nd Place: $300,000 ($75,000 per player)
3rd Place: $100,000 ($25,000 per player)
How to get a ticket
Anyone that has a ticket to any of the FOUR days (Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday) can come to the venue on Friday to get a ticket for the Charity Showdown.
Tickets for the Charity Showdown are first come, first served and can only be picked up on Friday before the event, from 12PM CEST.
Watch the event, live from the Mercedes Benz Arena in Berlin, Germany on Friday July 27th at 07:00 PDT | 16:00 CEST, on all major streaming platforms. For more information on PGI, visit the PGI website and be sure to tune in from July 25-29!
Enter your in-game name (PUBG name, not your Steam name) into the Survey (there's only 1 question).
Click Done
Wait until the giveaways end and check your account inventory for your crate! (This could take several days as we compile all the names and add the items to your inventories)
Once again, there are a limited number of skin sets available through this particular giveaway, but keep your eye on our social channels for other ways to grab this and other upcoming skin sets. This giveaway is limited to one set per account, so double check to make sure you’ve entered your name correctly. Also, please note that this giveaway is for PC only.
Metal Rain is returning to PUBG in this week’s event mode! As before, players will be able to call either an armored UAZ or a special care package by using flare guns found throughout the map. Gather your friends or join a random group of 8 and battle it out for control of the airdrops in this all-out battle for superior firepower!
UPDATES
We’ve improved the mode’s UI so players get a visual displaying which drop the flare gun will call in their current location and how many of each drop remain. This can be seen in the Map screen (M by default). Once the flare gun is fired, it will be marked on the map so that players can easily find where the care package drop point is.
EVENT SCHEDULE
STARTS: July 19, 7pm PDT / July 20, 4am CEST / July 20, 11am KST ENDS: July 22, 7pm PDT / July 23, 4am CEST / July 23, 11am KST
As we detailed earlier this week, there will be several different PGI themed skin sets available between now and the end of the tournament. The first of these is the Ringside Crate and that giveaway is going on NOW!
To claim your Ringside Crate, simply visit the link below and enter your in-game name as it displays in the in-game lobby. Please note, we need your PUBG name, not your Steam name!
This giveaway is limited to one set per account, so double check to make sure you’ve entered your name correctly. The crate will be automatically added to your account within a few days after the giveaway ends, so watch for them when you login to the game. Please note that this giveaway is for PC accounts only.
There are a limited number of skin sets available through this particular giveaway, but keep your eye on our social channels for other ways to grab this and other upcoming skin sets.
PGI 2018 runs from July 25-29 and will be streamed live on all major streaming platforms. For more information, please visit the official PGI website.
Implemented a change to reduce instances where the character would un-ADS unexpectedly.

UPDATE 1 (7/17/18)
Custom Match:
At least 10 players are required to start the match.
While this update is on the test servers, only 2 players will be required to start matches.
____________
Hey everyone,
PUBG 1.0 patch #18 has just been deployed to test servers. This patch features a new, Sanhok-exclusive DMR and vehicle, as well as custom matches for everyone via the new custom match open beta. As always, the patch will deploy to live servers once the testing period is complete.
Without further ado, let’s get into it!
PGI
PGI: Booklet
To celebrate PGI (PUBG Global Invitational), we’ve added an in-game booklet which provides more detailed information about PGI
You can find info about prize money, rules, maps, schedule, team info, ranking, and videos
Click the right upper banner in the lobby to access the booklet
Once PGI matches are live, you will be able to click on a banner to view the stream
The Rony is a new pickup truck that can only be found on Sanhok (from the automaker that brought you the Mirado)!
This truck holds up to 4 passengers and excels at moving across Sanhok's hilly landscapes.
The Rony is one of the larger vehicles on Sanhok, so it can be used for cover as well as transportation!
Custom Match
Custom match UI has been updated and custom match creation is available for all players, in open beta on our test servers. Our plan is to expand this test to live servers, once the system is proven to be stable.
Custom match list can now be viewed after selecting custom match game mode.
Normal mode: Classic battle royale rules—be the last person (or team) standing
Zombie mode: Play as either humans or zombies. Only one faction can win.
War mode: Team deathmatch with respawns. The team with the most points (kills and knocks) wins.
eSports mode: PGI 2018 eSports rule will be applied
After selecting your preferred game mode, custom matches can now be created using presets.
Each game mode currently has one default preset available.
Additional presets which will allow you to easily enjoy other game modes will be added in the future.
After creating the match, the settings can be adjusted using the options in the BASIC, RULES, and SPAWNS menus.
BASIC: Set session name, game mode, password, server region, map, weather, etc.
RULES: Set number of players, team size, gameplay, Blue Zone settings.
SPAWN: Set the types of weapons available and spawn rates.
Things to keep in mind when creating custom matches:
The number of total created custom games at once are limited.
At least 10 players are required to start the match.
While this update is on the test servers, only 2 players will be required to start matches.
You can keep the game in a waiting room for up to two hours
Custom game spectating feature has been disabled temporarily.
This feature will be reopened after maintenance work.
UI / UX
In Options > Control tab, now gamepad related options will only be displayed when the gamepad is connected
Bug Fixes
Fixed an issue where, when dragging items from a loot crate or the field, players couldn’t acquire items because the item amounts were automatically divided
Fixed an issue where, when the backpack was full, players couldn’t throw away extended mags
Fixed an issue where the camera would rotate 180 degrees upon death, making it difficult to understand which direction you were killed from.
Fixed an issue allowing players to see through some buildings on Sanhok
The crossbow zeroing will always remain at 25m even with a scope attached.
Earlier this year, we promised to make custom matches available for more players. As our first step towards fulfilling that promise, we’re making custom match access available to everyone on our test servers. Our plan is to expand this test to live servers, once the system is proven to be stable.
When you create your own custom match, you can play PUBG your way. Customize every aspect of the game, from circle behavior, item/vehicle spawn rates, to loadouts and more. You can even create and customize War Mode and Zombie Mode game types, then invite as many (or few) players as you want to join. Create private matches for friends, or public games so the whole world can enjoy your creation.
Remember that this is a test, so some elements might be rough and we’ll need your feedback about the system. Is it easy to find games and create games? How easy is it to get a full lobby? What could be improved with the feature? Just let us know in the comments here (or anywhere else where we have an official presence), and we’ll continue to iterate over time to improve custom matches. Please be aware that if demand for custom matches is unexpectedly high, servers could become unreliable. We’ll keep you updated and fix problems quickly as they arise.
Throughout the open beta, custom games creation will be limited to 10,000 concurrent running games to ensure a stable service. Creating custom matches won't have an associated cost during this phase. However, due to the extremely large amount of resources required to allow custom games to be available to all players, we may change this in the future to ensure everything runs smoothly and the system remains sustainable long-term. We're open to your feedback on this system and we'll have more details on this aspect of the system later.
We’ve also made some improvements to the UX for custom matches which are rolling out at the same time. Let’s talk about all the changes!
First, whenever creating matches, you’ll first select the high-level mode type.
Once you’ve selected your mode, you’ll see a list of available custom matches that have already been created.
Basic details like map, team sizes, perspective, current player count, etc. are all shown here.
You can use the page numbers at the bottom to quickly navigate through the list, or click the “filter” button in the top-right to more easily sort through the available options.
When you’re creating your own match, each game mode has one default preset available and additional presets which will allow you to easily enjoy other game modes will be added in the future.
Here are a couple of images showing just some of the settings you can adjust:
Once you’ve created your match, you can easily move players around to adjust the team structure.
As before, you can set a password to keep your match private. Soon you’ll also be able to set a “spectate password” for events.
That’s all for now! Be sure to check out the new custom match UX when PC 1.0 Update #18 hits the test servers.
CGW started off rough, their teamwork and key plays allowed them to fight back into a second place finish.

Recently, we released our first ever Event Pass alongside our new map, Sanhok, to bring players a new way to track their progression and earn exclusive skins outside of the crate system. In the weeks since, we’ve received a great amount of feedback on this new system and how we can improve it next time around.
The Event Pass was debuted as a time limited event and unfortunately, due to service instability, longer maintenance times, and some bugs with some of the missions themselves, some players had difficulty enjoying the new content to its fullest extent. These issues will all be taken into consideration during future content planning and we thank you for your patience as we work through the kinks of this brand new system.
But thanking you for your feedback and promising to improve in the future doesn’t help you finish your current pass, so we’ve decided to run an event to help players scrape out a few more levels before the Event Pass ends on 7/21.
Bonus XP Event 1:
Simply log into the game between 7/13 and 7/15 and you will be given a one-time bonus of 400XP.
We are also providing a daily login bonus of 200XP on 7/15 through 7/20 (7/16 through 7/21 for CEST and KST). Simply login each day to receive your bonus!
Login bonus days reset at 5pm PDT | 2am CEST| 9am KST.
Event Info:
1. Bonus XP will appear as a pop-up once you log into the game. 2. Bonus XP Event 1 is a one-time reward for a total of 400XP. 3. Bonus XP Event 2 can be redeemed once per day, for a total of 1200XP. 4. If you have any trouble receiving these bonus rewards, please contact customer service.
Lastly, the period for Event Pass: Sanhok is almost over, so we wanted to clarify the final days of the schedule.
Event Pass: Sanhok Ending Schedule
Sale of the Premium Event Pass will end on 7/19 7pm PDT | 7/20 04:00 CEST | 7/20 11:00 KST Sale of the 5 Level Booster item will end on 7/21 5pm PDT | 7/22 02:00 CEST | 7/22 09:00 KST The Event Pass: Sanhok Season will end on 7/21 5pm PDT | 7/22 02:00 CEST | 7/22 09:00 KST Reward Settlement: 7/21 5pm ~ 7/28 5pm PDT | 7/22 02:00 ~ 7/29 02:00 CEST | 7/22 09:00 ~ 7/29 09:00 KST
During the reward settlement period, you will have the chance to claim any remaining rewards or XP. You will not be able to acquire any unclaimed rewards or XP after the settlement period is over, so make sure you claim all outstanding rewards before that period is over.
Thank you for participating in our first ever Event Pass. While this is our first attempt at content like this, we will continue to monitor your feedback so that we can find new and better ways for you to earn great new rewards
