PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS - Valor

Hey everyone,

This week’s event mode is going to be another test of the Flare Gun system. We’ve looked at your feedback from the last round, but want to gather a little more data before we pull the trigger on any changes or deploy the item to live. Unlike the long event before, this test will run from Wednesday until Saturday. Once again, your feedback is greatly appreciated, so please let us know your thoughts in our forum thread!

As before:

This event mode will mimic normal squad games, except that there will be a rare chance for the Flare Gun to spawn alongside normal loot. The goal here is to basically beta test the Flare Gun as normal PUBG loot with the intention to add it as a rare drop to normal games once the test concludes.

You can also check out our video below to learn more about this test.

PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS - Valor

Hey Everyone,

Today we’re excited to to officially announce that professional leagues are coming to PUBG! The National PUBG League (NPL) in North America and the PUBG Europe League (PEL) in Europe are pro-level competitions for the 2019 season, and are the first major steps in our announced 5-year esports plan. These leagues will be part of a global league structure that begins in January, where teams will compete locally in a three-phase system to win prize money and qualify for global tournaments and championships. Teams in North America will compete for a regional annual prize pool of $1 million while European teams will have an annual prize pool of €1 million.

Matches played in these leagues will place 16 squads on Erangel and Miramar in first-person perspective only. OGN and StarLadder will be our partners for the NPL and PEL respectively and all participating teams will have travel and housing subsidized.

We’re excited to officially kick off the inaugural season this January and will be sharing more information about these leagues at a later date. PEL registrations are open now (NPL registrations coming soon), so if you think your squad has what it takes, head over to http://pubgesports.eu to register!

PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS - Valor

Hey everyone,

In today’s Dev Letter, we’re talking about a brand new way to track your progress and show off your skill in PUBG. A Rank System has been a highly requested feature for some time now and we’re excited to finally be kicking off the first beta season. With it, we hope players will be able to better see their own growth, while being able to see where they stand among the millions of PUBG players out there, no matter which way they choose to enjoy the game. And best of all, once beta is over and we start real seasons, we’re planning some great end-of-season rewards surrounding this system.

For now, let’s talk about the system itself.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KqvSy0Bvs4

Rank Seasons

The PUBG Rank System gives players another way to show off their skills as a survivor. You’ll begin each new season by playing 10 placement matches to determine your initial rank. From there, each game you play will adjust your Rank Point total, which determines your overall Rank. For the beta, we’re targeting about a 2 month season as a test window and will take a look at how that feels once it’s complete.

Earning Rank Points

Rank Points are accumulated by simply playing and performing well in games. Kills and overall placement both contribute to these points with a higher amount awarded based on how well you do. The rank tier you’re in and number of players in your game are also taken into consideration to calculate your final RP earned for that game. RP can be lost as well, so consistency is the key to achieving the next Rank.

While the overall calculation for how RP is earned has many different factors, here are some rough examples of the amount of RP a Diamond player can expect to earn in matches:
  • A Diamond player who wins a game with 8 kills would earn around 30 RP
  • A Diamond player who wins a game with 1 kill would earn around 20 RP
  • A Diamond player who ends a game in 100th place with 0 kills would lose around 20 RP

Rank Tiers

There are 8 different tiers for Ranks in PUBG, which progress as such:

Each of the 8 Ranks represents a range of total RP earned throughout the current season. At the start of a new season, RP will be soft reset and you will enter placement matches once again to determine your new starting rank, which takes into account your final standing from the previous season. Ranks will be gained and lost as you cross their point thresholds, with no additional qualifying matches required to move to the next rank.

These tiers are also separated by queue type, meaning that you will have a different Rank in Solo, Duo, and Squad queues which are also separated by FPP and TPP. We want everyone who loves PUBG to be able to experience the new Rank System without being forced into a specific way to play, so the choice is yours whether you focus on one or all of the different queues!

The chart below represents the different RP values required to achieve a certain Rank:

And for even more prestige, each queue will have a Top 100 leaderboard, showcasing the best of the best players in each game mode. This leaderboard is global, so showing up on here means you’ve clawed your way through some of the best players PUBG has to offer. Good luck!

Matchmaking Updates

With the introduction of Ranks, we also want to clarify how matchmaking is handled. There is still a separate MMR that is calculated based on your overall performance in games. This overall MMR will determine who enters matches with you and does not take into account your Rank or Rank Point total. Due to the sheer amount of players needed for each game, the matchmaking pool needs to be a little more open than simply adhering to Rank like a game with only 10 people per match could, while also helping with overall queue times. However, as you achieve higher ranks, many of the same performance factors are going into how many RP you’re earning, so in many cases high ranks will be matched with each other regardless.

We’ve also updated how regions work in general, so that the server closest to you will automatically be preferred when the matching pool in that region is sufficient. If that matching pool doesn’t have sufficient players, the next closest server will be chosen.

We’re excited to kick off the first PUBG ranked season beta with Update 22, and hope our players enjoy the added prestige that comes with your shiny new Rank medal. We’re looking forward to your feedback on the system, so hop in game, knock out those placements, and show the world what you’re made of!

Strap on that level 3 helmet, cause the competition on the battlegrounds just got a little more fierce. Update 22 is bringing a long-awaited Ranking system to PUBG, allowing you to put everything you've learned to the test as you climb the ranks. More information on this new system is coming soon!

We're also squashing another collection of FIX PUBG bugs, adding a convenient new wheel menu to health and throwable inventories, adding a way for you to upgrade your duplicate or unwanted skins, and by very popular demand, bringing back map selection.

Let's dive in!

Note: Replay version has been updated, replays from previous updates are no longer playable.

New Anti-Cheat Tech

As part of our ongoing efforts to combat cheating, we’ve developed a new anti-cheat system in-house at PUBG Corp. which we're now bringing to live servers, after an extensive period on our test servers. This system is being used in addition to our existing anti-cheat solutions.

Expect to see a new popup when you start the client. To help us refine our anti-cheat service it would be helpful for us if you play with the "Enable Anti-cheat" box checked, if you experience issues you can disable this.

We've fixed previous compatibility issues experienced by some players, although we've kept the option to disable the new anti-cheat system while we go through the final stages of testing in the live server environment. Once testing is complete, you will be unable to disable this system.

FIX PUBG Update

QoL
  • WHEEL MENUS: Added UI that allows players to access a quick-select wheel (similar UI with the Emote system) for the quick selection of items without opening the inventory or pressing individual hotkeys.
  • MINIMAP: Players can now further magnify the minimap.
  • PLAYER ORDER CONSISTENCY: Player order between the lobby and in-game is now consistent so that players will have fixed numbers and colors based on lobby order when they enter a game.

Hey everyone,

Today we’re announcing something a little different for this week’s event mode. We’ve been gathering your feedback on the Flare Gun over the course of a few events and we’re finally ready to give it a proper test in a real environment to see if it fits within the normal PUBG atmosphere and make sure everything works properly.
