Dota 2 - SZ

Over a month has passed since new defending champions were crowned, and it's time to look toward the next spectacles that await us. The first Tour of the next Dota Pro Circuit season kicks off next week. Comprised of Regional Leagues culminating in the Winter Major tournament, this Tour will be the first of three that lead up to The International 2022. With DPC points on the line, these Tours offer the most reliable path for consistent teams to secure invitations to next year's crowning event.

To help the Dota community get into the spirit of the global competition right out the gate, we've brought Fantasy play out of the Compendium and into the wider DPC season, letting you play for the duration of each Tour.

Fantasy play during the DPC works similar to each year during The International, with the main difference being fans now compete within specific regions, and scoring is calculated by period (generally a week) rather than daily.

Read a bit more on how to play below.

The Basics
For each period, fans set a Fantasy roster made up of two Core Player Cards, one Mid Player Card, and two Support Player Cards. Player Cards on a roster score Fantasy points based on how well they perform in that period's matches. Silver & Gold Cards have stat bonuses that earn more points. Periods generally consist of a single week, except over the holiday season at the end of the year.

Player Card Packs
All players have been granted 10 starter packs. Additional Player Card Packs can be earned daily by winning a game of Dota. Team Packs will be available for purchase directly from the PLAYER CARDS tab in the WATCH section as teams submit their Supporters Club bundles in the near future.

When you open a pack you'll receive player cards from the specific region you have selected.

Regional Fantasy
Each DPC region is its own Fantasy league with its own player cards and unique lineup. You may choose to participate in multiple regional leagues, and you will earn Fantasy Levels based on your best fantasy league performance for the period. For instance, if you place in the top 10% of one league and the top 50% of another, you will receive the points for the top 10% placement. Region rewards do not stack.

At the end of each period, you will earn levels based on the Fantasy points for that period. Rewards will be unlocked based on your current overall Fantasy Level.

Scoring Matches
The scoring for seasonal Fantasy is slightly different than in the past. All Division I matches during the Winter 2022 Tour are eligible for Fantasy play. The highest scoring two games of a best-of-three count towards a player's score. If a team plays more than one series during a period, only their highest-scoring series will count.

Due to scheduling conflicts with teams quarantining after TI, the Chinese Division I will be starting later in the season. We are looking at ways to ensure that fans participating in the Chinese Fantasy League get the same amount of potential rewards regardless.

Rewards
The top 10% scoring Fantasy Teams for the period receive 3 Fantasy Levels.
The top 25% scoring Fantasy Teams for the period receive 2 Fantasy Levels.
The top 50% scoring Fantasy Teams for the period receive 1 Fantasy Levels.
Every third fantasy level, players will receive one DPC Winter 2022 Tour treasure (to be granted later). At every other level, players receive 500 shards.

Make sure to follow all of the upcoming action in the Watch section of the client or on the DPC homepage. In the meantime, we're also putting the finishing touches on the next Battle Pass, which is due out in the next few weeks. We've got a special conundrum cooking and we can't wait to share it.

Moving Dota Technology Forward
Following up on our previous announcement about the future of Dota's technology, with this update we have:
  • Removed support for native XAudio support — the default audio system is now SDL.
  • Deprecated DirectX 9 support — as the penultimate step toward removing support for this render system, users who have been using DirectX 9 have been switched to DirectX 11. To facilitate reporting problems with DirectX 11, we've added a temporary command-line flag -deprecated_dx9 (which itself will be removed in the coming weeks).
  • Removed support for OpenGL on Windows. The optional DLC that previously contained the data required for OpenGL on Windows has been emptied and will be removed soon. Deprecation of OpenGL on macOS and Linux will be coming with a separate update.
  • Removed support for Dota on 32-bit systems.

The International Grand Champions
From Eastern Europe Qualifiers to The International Champions, we'd like to officially congratulate Team Spirit on their monumental accomplishment.

In one of the greatest Finals ever witnessed, Team Spirit triumphed in a winner-take-all game five against arguably the most feared Dota team in the world, PSG.LGD. Fittingly, the lineups for the deciding game set two dominant strategies of the tournament against each other, and in the end Team Spirit's Magnus-first draft was too much for PSG.LGD's vaunted Tiny/Lycan pair. They claimed the final game on the main stage — and with it the Aegis — just as they had won the first game of the Main Event, with an aggressive and exciting style of play that improved each day and thrilled Dota fans worldwide along the way.

As bearers of the ultimate symbol of victory, these names shall forever be inscribed upon the Aegis of Champions:

2021 - Team Spirit
  • Illya "Yatoro" Mulyarchuk
  • Alexander "TORONTOTOKYO" Khertek
  • Magomed "Collapse" Khalilov
  • Miroslaw "Mira" Kolpakov
  • Yaroslav "Miposhka" Naidenov
Looking Back
If you missed any of the tournament, or just want to rewatch some of the incredible moments and dazzling plays, head over to The International website, where you can find replays for every match. There are photos and videos from the event over on our Youtube Main Event and Event Entertainment playlists, Dota 2 Instagram, and the Dota 2 Flickr — which also features content stretching back to the earliest incarnations of TI.

We would like to thank all of the players, talent, and everyone in the Dota community for once again helping bring this celebration to life. The road to The International was not straightforward this time around, but we hope you enjoyed the world-class Dota and all of the broadcast content from this year's tournament as much as we did.

The International Main Event kicks off at National Arena in Bucharest in less than twelve hours. Tune in from 10 am EEST via the DPC website, the Dota client, or over on Twitch to catch all of the main stage action as the final 16 teams face off for the Aegis.

Team Standings
After a hard-fought Group Stage, group leaders PSG.LGD and Invictus Gaming will be joined in the Upper Bracket by Virtus Pro, OG, T1, Team Secret, Vici Gaming, and Team Spirit. In the Lower Bracket, Team Undying, Evil Geniuses, Beastcoast, Quincy Crew, Fnatic, Elephant, Team Aster, and Alliance will all need to battle out of a best-of-one elimination match with their tournament hopes on the line. As those squads move to the main stage, SG esports and Thunder Predator exit the tournament as the first teams to fall. We salute their accomplishments in earning a place amongst the finest teams in the world and wish them luck in their efforts to return next year.

Crimson Witness Treasures
Watching matches live at National Arena isn't an option for fans this year, but that doesn't mean ticket-holders have to miss out on one of the traditional perks of attending the event. To help celebrate first blood in each match, fans who purchased tickets to attend The International still have a chance to snag this year's Crimson Witness treasures. You won't need to sign in or out for each game, just make sure to register your account once over on the Crimson Witness page to ensure your eligibility.

The Secret Shop
Fans looking to raid this year's Secret Shop can head over to The International's official online store, brought to you by our merchandise partners at We Are Nations. In addition to the tournament-themed items, they've worked together with members of the Dota Community to develop new offerings in a Fan Art Collection.

Official Tournament Chair
For those Dota diehards looking for one more piece of The International to add to their home collections, our partners at Secret Lab invite you to check out this year's official tournament chair. Designed for use in the player booths on the main stage and themed to match this year's event, it's the perfect peripheral to pair with your own Dota games.
