Update (9:50 PM PDT Oct 30): Please note that, after reading your concerns, we will be making one additional change on November 8th. MSL Weapon's [Dungeon Hunter] buff's effective dungeon will change from Lubelisk to Ludibrium Clock Tower. This change will be applied to all players that currently have the weapon, as well as those that obtain it in the future. We've decided that this is a natural change, as MSL Weapons were meant to be gear targeted for one of Chaos Raids we intended to release in November.

Dear Maplers,

It has been an amazing three weeks since we officially launched on October 10th! While TwitchCon and Steam Halloween Sales were happening, we have been quietly preparing great content for the upcoming November update.

Today, I would like to share important details of upcoming updates, including some of the hot topics within the community.

Currently, we are aiming to deliver our first major content update on November 8th PST. The date could change depending on QA testing results! This update includes Chaos Raids, Thanksgiving events, and quality of life improvements.

Chaos Raids
As many of you have been gearing up towards the Chaos Raids, we have been reviewing the structure of the system and making lots of adjustments for the global version. The biggest change would be that we are going to expand the daily/weekly cap for the raids vs. other regions, and we are not going to make extra raid tickets available at this time.

Overall, we want players to be able to jump into Chaos Raid right away with reasonably upgraded epic gears. This means Shadow Altar will have the lowest Gear Score requirement of the three Chaos Raids, to allow you to obtain part of Legendary gear necessary to enter Moonlight Fortress. Ludibrium Clock Tower will have the toughest Gear Score requirement, which will require a reasonably upgraded Legendary gear set, sans weapon. As a result, we will be providing different types of drops based on the raids as well as different open times.
  • What: Shadow Altar, Moonlight Fortress, Ludibrium Clock Tower
  • When:
    • November 8th: Shadow Altar and Moonlight Fortress
    • November 30th: Ludibrium Clock Tower
  • Required Gear Score: Will be announced with the patch notes
  • Chaos Raids Reward Structure:
    • Shadow Altar: Legendary Headgear / Gloves / Shoes
    • Moonlight Fortress: Legendary Top / Bottoms
    • Ludibrium Clock Tower: Legendary Weapon

  • Legendary Gear Design:
    • We are going to have three different sets (pictured above), and each set will carry the same spec and Gear Score but will have different passives and triggers.
We have put a lot of thought into the current progression and end-game design and came up with the above changes. Also, the daily/weekly limit for EACH raid will be 3 per day and 6 per week, and it is a character-based cap. Please look out for more detailed information with our November Update Preview announcement and detailed patch notes.

As for additional raid entrance tickets, we are not selling them directly and will be reviewing how we would like to approach that going forward.

Dungeon Limit Reset - Beta
As we discussed in the previous Producer’s Blog by LAMBCOOK (read again here), we are updating the BETA version of the Dungeon Limit Reset change to the game in the November 8th update. Please see the details below:
  • You can use the “reset” function when you have reached all of your weekly caps
  • Once you reset, you start your new limit immediately and your daily cap is reset as well, meaning on the day of the reset you will be able to get rewards up to 20 dungeon runs
  • You have one reset per account per week
  • You receive a new reset every Friday at 12:00 AM UTC
  • There will be no change to the amount or quality of the loot you receive from dungeons after the reset
This function is in Beta, meaning that based on how the feature performs we may take another action or remove the function from the service. This is not the end of changes related to our dungeon system, as we will continue to take feedback and review data sets to make decisions about the next steps.

Thanksgiving
We are going to introduce a brand new Thanksgiving event! If you remember the old Thanksgiving event in MapleStory, you won’t be disappointed. A wild turkey will be invading Maple World, and you will have many different activities to participate in to get cool rewards including an exclusive Turkey Mount!

As we did with Halloween, you won’t need to spend any Merets to get cool-looking things from the event! Please look out for more details about the event!

Prepping Players for the Chaos Raids This Week!
With the double loot event, we have seen more players entering Hard Adventure Dungeons. On North America East server alone, we have seen 52% more characters now playing Hard Adventure Dungeons week over week.

Thus, we believe now it is time for us to support players to gear up for the Chaos Raids, and we will be expanding the double loot event for the Hard Adventure Dungeons for the week! Also, we will be extending double loot for the Normal Adventure Dungeons for another week.

Keep an eye out for more details on the event!

Few Other Important Topics
  • Fairfight Change: As we discussed last time, we are going to introduce the Fairfight scaling changes in the November 8th update.
  • 10053 Error Fix: We are still targeting November 8th for the fix, and will provide more information soon.
  • UGC Change: We are still working on a few changes to the current system. We can assure you it won’t impact the general use of UGC, and our goal is to create clearer guidelines about what is and is not allowed on top of what is mentioned in the Terms of Service. We’d also like to ensure that the Design Shop works as a function of talented creators and designers to deliver creative, quality designs which can sell well on the shop, also providing more options for customization for all players. Since players can use templates to always be creative, we are going to adjust the Design Shop to be more of a great source with creative, quality customization options.
  • Meso Sellers and Bots: We are continuing to improve our system and overall monitoring, and as a result we have been banning over 1,000 accounts per day. We have seen meso sellers aggressively promoting their sites using Ad Balloons and other spaces and we’re working on adding more measures to prevent these from happening in the future. We will be analyzing the pattern and will continue to evolve our system to block ad spammers and bots in dungeons.
  • Game Optimization: This is a topic we are addressing with the MapleStory 2 studio on a regular basis. The team is aware and reviewing what can be done to further optimize the game. We don’t have any ETA on detailed optimizations but wanted to share that we are aware and we are not ignoring these issues!
As I always emphasize, we are closely monitoring all of the feedback we see from all different channels. While some of the topics might have not been covered via Producer Blogs, that doesn’t mean we are not looking into those topics. We are prioritizing and trying to improve the service every day, and hopefully, players are feeling the changes with every update. Again, thank you for being an awesome community, and we hope to continue to grow the MapleStory 2 community together!

Sincerely,
Jungsoo Lee

Dear Maplers,

Today, we would like to briefly discuss an incident we have identified of which players might not be aware. Since our policy is to be transparent with the community, we have decided to share this information we have identified that could potentially impact the game with the MapleStory 2 community.

After the game's Head Start, the MapleStory 2 studio and Nexon America team set up a monitoring process to ensure none of our systems, including GM/admin power, get abused on the live server. During the regular monitoring process, we identified abnormal activities on some of the accounts and found that an internal staff member had been using live test accounts with GM power to benefit their personal account. Also, we learned a few other accounts had been getting support as well.

The following activities have been identified:
  • Resetting the dungeon count for their personal account to progress faster
  • Creating and dropping certain items to increase gear score faster
  • Purchasing their own UGC with test Merets
  • Doing dungeon runs up to 10 times with others per day per character (no reset for the count)
  • With GM power, clearing dungeons for others within few seconds
As a result of our thorough investigation, we have taken the strongest possible measures towards the identified staff, and have blocked their identified personal accounts, to ensure the game’s integrity. We have also identified a small number of other accounts with abnormal dungeon runs and blocked those accounts for the illegal activity. We did not find any sign of these accounts impacting the in-game economy.

We do believe that being transparent with these kinds of incidents with the community is very important, and we assure you that our current monitoring process will continue to closely look for any potential issues. The monitoring process is not only for the staff here but for all accounts we have in the game, and we will continue to work hard to deliver the best for the game service.

Also, we promise to the community that we will continue to be transparent with these types of incidents which can potentially impact the game.

Best,
Jungsoo Lee

Dear Maplers,

Please come and visit my house to pet my Pumky, as I was busy working on the game and couldn’t pet my Pumky!!

I hope everyone is having fun with the Halloween and Launch Celebration events! After launching the game, we have been digesting an enormous amount of work, and I think the team here deserves some cheer from the players! With this week’s blog, I would like to share what the team here has been able to achieve working with the MapleStory 2 studio for the past week.

Today’s blog will cover 10053 disconnection issues, the launch celebration event we have prepared, and Fairfight!

Fairfight
As you are all aware, we do have this mechanic in place for your Adventure Dungeon runs. We have gathered feedback from our community and while we know this was a controversial topic, we were happy to learn that a lot of the community agrees that the Fairfight system has more positives than negatives. We do believe this is one of the essential systems we’d like to keep in the long run to make the experience more balanced between players up to Adventure Dungeons while building other parts of experiences more directly scaled based on your stats (i.e. Chaos Raids). For this time around, we are focusing on delivering the right balanced experience as intended with some scaling measure for your stat growth so that you can feel your progression appropriately.  After a thorough review, we narrowed down the issue with the system scaling down the damage too much for players who are level 50+. We agreed on the concern and we are making changes to the system as below:

Confirmed Change for Early November Update

When you are playing level 50 dungeons with level 50+ characters, we are lowering the impact of scaling to your damage in general. It’s highly likely you will be seeing 5-10% higher damage after we make this adjustment.

We are making this change to ensure, as players progress on their level and gear score, they can continue to give higher damage to the monster. This will only apply to the level 50 dungeons, and the change will be applied in early November.

Change in Works, Timing TBD

We are also making another change toward the impact of the Fairfight mechanic on passive skills and buffs. Currently, jobs with a high dependency on passive skills and buff skills are seeing a larger impact from the Fairfight mechanic, especially the Thief and Priest jobs. We are currently working on lowering the Fairfight system’s impact on passive and buff skills.

We don’t have an ETA yet, but the team is working hard to make this happen within November. Hopefully, we can share the news sooner on when this change will be applied.

10053 Disconnection
We don’t currently have the date for the fix, but the good news is that the MapleStory 2 studio has found a potential solution and began working on the implementation. The system MapleStory 2 studio is developing is whenever a disconnection occurs between the game client and the server, the game client will automatically reconnect to the server immediately so that players don’t notice any disconnection.

The current version of fix is in the very rough state, and the development studio will need to complete the implementation and go through thorough QA testing before we deploy the fix. Current ETA is early November but this may change based on the QA testing results.

Another Celebration Event
Not only have we surpassed 1 million accounts, but we also surpassed 2 million characters! Our CCU on Steam continues to be within the top 10, and as high as within the top 5. To show our appreciation towards our players, we have prepared another round of events.

We have designed this event so that everyone can benefit from the event and we can support players in Normal Adventure Dungeons in progressing faster towards Hard Adventure Dungeons. Please see the details below:

Normal Adventure Dungeon Double Loot

We are extending the event for one more week! Please take advantage of this event to increase your gear score for Hard Adventure Dungeons.

Free +8 Enchant Scroll (only works for Exceptional -light blue- items)

Please use the free scroll to enchant your gears to increase your gear score faster! This scroll will be given out on Saturday and Sunday (UTC). You will be getting one Exceptional Lv 50 +8 Weapon Scroll and one Exceptional Lv 50 +8 Armor Scroll once you log in during the event period to boost your gear’s Enchant from any level to +8! You only get one of each scroll per account and can transfer them between characters using the in-game bank.

Please make sure to log in with the main character you want to have the scroll because the Exceptional +8 Weapon Scroll will be given out based on your character’s class. We won’t be able to exchange the scroll type afterward! Please note all scrolls will expire at midnight on November 8 (UTC).

Free 200 Red Merets Each Day

Please log in to the game on Saturday and Sunday, and you will receive a bag containing 200 Red Merets each day. Unlike last week’s event, you can get this gift regardless of your level, and you will be able to open the bag to get the Red Merets at level 40. You can collect a total of 400 Red Merets per account.

Upcoming Update
We are currently targeting November 8th (PST) for our next content update. This will include three Chaos Raids, and a set of items for Chaos Raids, as well as something to celebrate Thanksgiving. We know that Thanksgiving in late November is mainly here in the States, but we are a global game and will be celebrating important holidays in different countries all year long!

We are not ready to share details of the actual contents yet, and the update time may change depending on the QA testing results, but we can assure you the content will be very enjoyable for all levels.

Also, we are preparing quality of life updates, including adding a function to reduce the size of your house. Please stay tuned for more updates coming next week.

Other Issues
Again, we would like to remind everyone that we are monitoring all of the channels including the Steam community and Reddit, and proactively creating a list of backlog items we should review. Here are a few things I would like to highlight:

Dungeon Limit: We heard everyone’s thoughts and feedback. But for the November update, we will be deploying the “BETA” version of the reset function as we discussed in the previous Producer Blog. Making changes to dungeons comes with lots of work so for this round, we are going to deploy the current version and review the trend in order to make future decisions. Thank you for all your great feedback!

Game Launch Error: With the Halloween update, lots of issues have been fixed, but we are still seeing the “Game Launch” issue with certain types of audio and graphics cards. We are also seeing more issues with laptops. We don’t have a clear solution for this yet but wanted to let you know that we are looking into the issue and looking for a solution.

Design Shop and UGC: We have seen an increase in the number of discussions happening around UGC in general. We want to let you know three things:
  • UGC submissions have been removed for a number of reasons, including copyrighted phrases, images of real people used without their expressed consent, and other cases that are entirely to do with the nature of copyrights and trademarks. We understand that the nuances of what is allowed can be confusing, and strongly urge that everyone creating designs and outfits familiarize themselves with our UGC policies to make sure their work follows the prescribed rules.
  • We have agents working to catch up on all the reports. Currently, we are seeing many reports about UGC items coming in, but we will eventually get to all of the reports. Please remember we are going to take the same measures towards the items that have similar issues. It’s just a matter of timing. If you see any items with issues, please make sure to report them so that we can take action towards those items faster.
  • We are going to review changes to the UGC system to ensure we are only getting quality content in the Design Shop. We don’t have any details yet, but once we know what we want to do, we will share the information with you.
Meso Sellers and Bots: The team here is doing great work. As you have seen, some of the ad spams have become literally impossible to read. We know they are being creative and using group chats, but we are catching them much faster and blocking them at a very fast pace. We have blocked 15K+ accounts in seven days including bots and ad spammers.

As always, thank you for being an awesome community, and for making the game so successful. We will continue to work on the game with the community and our developers, to find what's best for MapleStory 2 long-term.

Best,
Jungsoo Lee

Dear Maplers,

As promised in an earlier blog, I'm here to report to you what we were able to discuss, decide and implement for dungeon limits.

What are Dungeon Limits?
For those who are not familiar with dungeon limits, pressing ";" in-game pops up the Dungeon UI. From the left side, you can see how many dungeons you've completed so far, and how many more you can complete. Here are some simple rules of how it works currently.

  • Only completed dungeons count towards the limit: If you've lost the battle in a dungeon, don't worry. Your dungeon limit count will only go down if you've won the battle and received the loot roll for dungeon completion. This means you can make as many attempts you'd like until you get the team and timing just right to clear it.
  • 10 dungeons per day: You can get full dungeon rewards up to 10 times a day. There's no stopping you from doing more dungeons beyond this to help out a friend or just for practice but you won't be receiving loot rolls. You do get dungeon clearing EXP though.
  • 30 dungeons per week: On top of 10 a day, you can get full dungeon rewards up to 30 times a week. This means if you achieved 10 dungeon clears per day for 3 days, you've now maxed out getting the reward pools for that week.
  • Daily limit resets every day at midnight UTC.
  • Weekly limit resets every Friday at midnight UTC.
  • You receive reward boxes with the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, and 30th dungeons you complete to aid your journey.
  • This 30 dungeon limit only applies to Normal and Hard Adventure Dungeons. Other type of dungeons such as Dark Descent, Treasure, Special dungeons and (coming soon) Chaos Raids have independent dungeon limit counts.
  • Daily limit resets once when your character reaches level 50. This is because a lot more of the game opens up for you at level 50 and we don't want you to miss out. Your reward boxes get upgraded appropriate to your progression at this point as well.
The current design is because we wanted our Adventure Dungeon system to not force an endless grind with low RNG to get the gear you want, reduce polarization between hardcore and casual players and promote party play between all types of players. We believe this system allows you to get gear/resources needed within a reasonable amount of time. But it hasn't been without issues.

What is Changing?
We're hearing that many of our players feel 30 dungeons a week is just too low and that we're hindering the experience for the players who'd like to play more. Normal and Hard Adventure Dungeons are meant to be a stepping stone to aid you in getting the resources necessary to upgrade your end-game gear. But because there's not a major source of gear beyond Hard Adventure Dungeons, Adventure Dungeon runs are where character advancement ends in today's game. Here's what we are going to do to resolve this.
  • Chaos Raids (10 player, time-limited raid): This will be added in November, as previously mentioned in our roadmap. Chaos Raids are end-game content where your skills, teamplay, and gear all matter. With the addition of Chaos Raids, we expect our awesome hardcore players to prove just how strong they are. This challenge will surely be something we think many players will enjoy in addition to Adventure Dungeon runs, and with the greater challenge comes greater rewards.
  • Dungeon Limit Reset: We will be offering a one-time reset of the dungeon limit per week per account as a beta feature with the November update as well. In detail, this is how it will work:

(Not final art)
  • When you complete 30 Adventure Dungeons in a week, you will have the option to reset your counter once per account on a character of your choice per week.
  • Once reset, your character will now be able to obtain full dungeon rewards again, up to 10 per day and 30 in total before the scheduled reset time of Friday at midnight UTC.
  • We're still in discussion for the exact rewards you can get on additional dungeon runs to double-check all the technical requirements.
This essentially gives you a total of 60 dungeons per week on a character of your choice. We expect you'd use this on your main character but you can choose to do so on any character in your account and keep playing! And for the rewards, our goal is to provide rewards as close to the first 30 dungeon runs as possible, but may make some adjustments to prevent abuse and imbalancing the in-game economy.

Please note that we are adding this dungeon limit reset feature as a beta system because we came up with this solution in a short time. We expect to be ironing out the kinks and evaluating the necessity of such a system down the line as more content arrives in the game. We'll keep listening to the feedback of the players and adjust accordingly.

Lastly, one quick additional note on another topic I'm discussing with our development studio right now: the Fairfight mechanic. We are still actively discussing this based on your feedback and we'll share updates the moment we lock in on any new direction. I really appreciate so many players giving us suggestions because feedback rooted in passion like this is what guides us to make a better game.

Thanks for playing MapleStory 2!

Yours truly,
- MapleStory 2 Producer, LAMBCOOK
