Community Announcements - ColonelPanic
Dear Maplers,

We had a fantastic first week thanks to our great MapleStory 2 community. MapleStory 2 was ranked the #6 title on Steam during North America peak hours, with an even larger community forming on Nexon Launcher. The game was generally stable, aside from a few server issues during the weekend which increased latency on the North America East server, but the team here acted quickly to resolve the issues.

We saw the community grow in Europe, Oceania and South America. Oceania actually surprised us with a huge population, which required us to look into adding more channels! North America also showed growth every day and has consistently been the most packed.

While we have been seeing great success with the Official Launch, the team here has worked hard to get a few bigger items sorted out with our developers. I would like to use this chance to share what kind of changes we are planning to make.

Style Crate
We further reviewed the design of the Style Crate and after looking at posts on Reddit, the Official Forums and the Steam Community, we decided to make some additional improvements. The team has identified two main issues:
  • Set items in the Style Crate which aren't in the shop require too much investment to complete
  • Selection in the Premium Shop is too limited, due to the fact that most items only exist in the Style Crate
Because our intention is not to force players to purchase Style Crates, and MapleStory 2 is very unique with its visuals and customization, we will be taking the actions below:
  • All outfits that Dismantle for one Style Coin will now also be sold in the Premium Shop. The price will be higher than regular vanity items in the current shop, but you will be able to Dismantle these items for Style Coins.
    • When we remove items from the Style Crate, we will also remove those items from the Premium Shop, and add a new batch of items based on the current items in the Style Crate.
  • All outfit items that Dismantle for 3 Style Coins and Style Crate Weapon Boxes that Dismantle for 2 Style Coins will now also be added to the Style Coin Shop
    • Above items in the Style Coin Shop can be Dismantled for 2 or 3 Style Coins
    • Coin pricing will include the value of items after Dismantling (2 or 3 Style Coins)
The end result of these changes will be that every item within the Style Crates can now be obtained without relying on the roll of the dice. This change will be applied with the October 18th Halloween update. The team here and at the Development Studio have been working day and night to make these changes, to ensure we are providing the best service possible.

For Players Who Purchased Existing Style Crates
To show our appreciation towards players who purchased Style Crates before the October 18th update, we are going to grant one Style Coin for every 5 Style Crates purchases in the past. Since we are going to update the Style Coin Shop regularly, you can use both your existing and newly obtained Style Coins to purchase items in the future.
  • For players who bought 1 - 4 Style Crates: No Coin
  • For players who bought 5 - 9 Style Crates: 1 Coin
  • For players who bought 10 - 14 Style Crates: 2 Coins
  • ...
  • For players who bought 100 - 104 Style Crates: 20 Coins and so on
PvP Update
This has been a hot topic since the first Closed Beta, and we have been discussing this with the MapleStory 2 studio. I am happy to provide some high-level updates in regards to the direction we are going to pursue.

Bottom line: we will be updating PvP gear and reactivating PvP in early December.

The current version of the game has a completely different balance, and we agreed to work on releasing the PvP arena with an improved PvP gear system in early December.

Please stay tuned for more updates around the 3rd or 4th week of November.

Workshop Template
We have been seeing a large number of requests from players wanting to see a greater variety of weapon templates.

Working on new weapon templates takes a significant amount of time, but the MapleStory 2 studio wants to work on new templates that players want. We will work towards releasing a different variety of weapon templates one by one, and we hope to get your feedback on which templates have the greatest demand.

Please participate in the poll here!

After the survey, we will work with the studio to provide more information on any new weapon templates.

Upcoming Halloween Update
We released a short teaser yesterday on Twitter, and we have some more info to showcase today.

This year's Halloween content was actually developed for the global version of the service! Although Korea and China will be getting the same events at around the same time, the MapleStory 2 studio made a special effort to create new, limited time content specifically catered towards our community!

Please spread the word about these events, and jump in to collect exclusive, adorable looking Halloween perks this weekend! Lots of really cool things will be provided as event rewards for you to earn, as well as some limited time packages full of spooky items!

Other Issues
The team here is working day and night to review and monitor all the feedback from players. Please understand that we cannot leave replies on all the postings from the community, but you can assume we are reading most of the feedback you are providing the community and social channels.

We are taking care of high priority items, and we will eventually get to some of the topics we haven't mentioned yet. As a company, we can only discuss things which are confirmed, to prevent miscommunication and evolving designs from creating confusion. We appreciate all of your feedback and insights, and we will work hard to make the best decisions for the future of MapleStory 2.

A few things I would like to share for visibility purposes:
  • Dungeon Cap Discussion: We are going to make an official announcement on upcoming changes to the Dungeon Cap this Friday or next Monday. The plan is to share Friday, but depending on the situation after the Halloween update, this might be delayed. Our target date to apply the changes is early November at the moment.
  • Game Launch Errors: We have seen three different types of errors players are going through: stuck at Nexon logo screen, game freezing at the MapleStory 2 logo with loading bar getting frozen, and the game not responding after clicking "Play" on Steam. We are deploying a potential fix for the freezing at MapleStory 2 logo screen issue. We will work towards fixes for all the technical issues soon.
  • 10053 Disconnection Issue: The MapleStory 2 studio is working on the solution for this. We don't have an ETA yet, but we will try to get this fix in place ASAP. Once we have more news, will provide updates.
  • Meso Sellers & Bots: We are rolling out new measures to ban meso sellers and bots from the game every day. Meanwhile, please make sure to stay away from purchasing mesos from these sellers. Based on the Terms of Service, you can get banned from the game if you engage in the trade. We have learned how sellers are transferring mesos to the buyers and we will be taking more aggressive measures. So far, we have banned over 6,000 farmer accounts, and we will continue to fight back against meso sellers.
  • Fairfight: This is still being discussed, and we don't have any information we can share with you yet. Since this has been one of the biggest topics, I am mentioning this to let you know that we have heard what players are saying. We're still working on this issue, but there is some good news: the upcoming Chaos Raids won't have Fairfight applied.
Thank you for being an awesome community, and making the Official Launch so successful. We will continue to work on the game with the community and our developers, to find what's best for MapleStory 2 long-term.

Sincerely,
Jungsoo Lee

Nexon’s bouncy multiplayer platform RPG MapleStory was the first MMO for a lot of folks, and its 3D sequel MapleStory 2 launched today in English. While the game has been kicking around Korea and China for a while, it made its English debut through a paid, closed beta last week, it’s now free for all to jump in and play. Part arcadey hack n’ slasher, part anime social space with Minecrafty construction elements, there’s levels to grind, loot to hoard and a truly preposterous number of vacantly smiling monsters to bop. Take a peek at the cheerful launch trailer below.

The day is finally here: MapleStory 2 is finally launched, free to play for Maplers all around the world! It's been an exciting 6 months since our announcement back in April, and we're thrilled to finally be able to share this new dimension of Maple World with everyone. We've got plenty more in store for you as the days, weeks, months and years unwind, and we hope you have a blast with our very first update and the new job, new maps, new monsters, new events and new outfits to come with the Official Launch Update!

New Job: Runeblade

The Runeblades of Terrun Calibre are the perfect marriage of melee combat and mystical might. On the hunt, chasing after a traitor to the order, the Runeblade will stop at nothing to take vengeance upon the vile Holstatt and avenge his teacher's heinous murder... but it will take the combination of Pelgian bladecraft and Jibrician rune magic to stop him.

The Runeblade uses a powerful combination of heavy melee attacks and powerful elemental spells that become bolstered with the runes applied to the Runeblade's two-handed blade. Use the Flame Sigil to boost your health and make your Echoing Blade assault burn the opposition, or apply the Frost Sigil and harden your armor along with your weapons, causing the Impact attack to freeze the ground your foes fight on. With attacks and spells that devastate in both the melee and at a distance, Runeblade's an effective fighter against nearly any opposition.

Producer Blog - Current Status, Our Heartbeat
Dear Maplers,

It has been an amazing week since we launched Head Start on 10/1 and 10/4 on Steam. Thank you for joining the MapleStory 2 community and being part of the journey! We are very delighted to see players having a great time and sharing happy moments on all of our social platforms. We are seeing our player numbers growing at very fast pace even before the Official Launch and preparing ourselves for a massive number of players to join the community on 10/10.

While the numbers have been going up, we have faced a few unforeseen issues and the team here has been working day and night to resolve them. First of all we sincerely apologize for any of the issues launching the game or during gameplay. We are prioritizing all the critical blocker issues to get them resolved as early as possible, but some of the issues are taking a longer time to fix. We feel sincerely sorry and will try our best to get those issues resolved. Meanwhile we will prepare meaningful compensation for those players who couldn't play the game due to technical issues.

Today, I would like to take some time and share what we have seen from the game for the past seven days, and want to provide transparency on what we are working on and how we are trying to improve the game in general.

State of the Game
In general, the servers have been very stable and we didn't experience any critical issues. Due to unforeseen last minute issues, we delayed server open time for 30 minutes, and to fix an issue with some players not receiving founder's packs, we had a short maintenance on the second day of the service.

We are really focused on preparing the Official Launch which comes with a level cap expansion, new class Runeblade, new area Karkar Island and more! We're going through intensive testing to create a bug free game play environment for all the players. Also, we are adding more servers to ensure we don't have any stability issue due to too many players coming into the game at once.

Currently, we have a much bigger community on Nexon Launcher, and Steam has started to catch up in a fast pace. Thankfully, we are seeing our concurrent player count going higher everyday thanks to all the players constantly coming back to the game. Again, thank you everyone for having fun with the game, and we are going to continue to be transparent and communicate with all of you.

Top Priority Issues
After Head Start, we have found many small to big issues. Would like to share what we have found and how we are prioritizing them to fix these issues.

Meso Bots/Farmer Issues
We are seeing lots of Meso Sellers creating bot accounts, and spamming world chat, channel chat or even sending out random mail or whispers.

We are preparing a few solutions and would like to share what we have been working on. We won't be sharing detailed numbers to avoid giving out too much information to Meso sellers, but will share general systems we are working on.

But first of all, PLEASE DO NOT ENGAGE IN ANY TYPE OF BUSINESS WITH MESO SELLERS. It is against the terms of use, and once we track the logs, you will be also banned from the game if you make any purchase from illegal Meso Sellers.

Now let's discuss the solution we are working on.

Mailbox Improvements

We temporarily disabled mailbox feature to stop Meso Sellers from spamming mails. To stop mail spams, we have disabled the feature temporarily. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Currently, we are working on putting limitations to use the mailbox. Once it is done, you will be required to reach a certain level to use the function, also there will be a limitation on how much mail you can send out per day.

Trade Requirements

To prevent Meso Sellers from easily creating an account and making Meso trades, we are going to increase our limits to level 50 for Meso trades. Meaning you won't be able to trade anything that involves Meso until one of your characters within your account reaches level 50.

We will adjust this accordingly to control the situation.

World Chat/Channel Chat

We are going to put more restriction on World Chat. This is the main means for Meso Sellers to promote their sites, and also they are making charge backs after using all the world chats. We are going to put a restriction on levels, and how many you can use.

You will need one of your characters within your account reach level 50 to use the World Chat. Also, we will be removing the free World Chat at earlier levels to combat Meso Sellers making spam.

Automated Ban System

Also, we are upgrading our ban system to detect spam more effectively and ban those accounts from the game automatically.

Known Game Blocker Issues
After Steam Launch we have seen few critical issues which prevent small group of players from playing the game. The following issues have been identified, and would like to update how we are working to resolve those issues.

Account Blocked: (STEAM ONLY)

Current player flow is not intuitive for players who come back to Nexon games on Steam in a long time. You might be getting a message saying your account is blocked and in most of those cases you are incorrectly getting the message because you have been inactive for long time. If you are getting this message, please contact customer support.

We are working on easier fix for this, and hopefully we can get these fixed by tomorrow afternoon. Please stay tuned for more updates.

Error 10053

We have narrowed down the issue on this disconnection issue. The main cause of the issue is an unstable internet connection or connection issue with your ISP to our servers.

We are looking into a solution where we can gracefully handle the short disconnections which can occur while you are playing the game. No ETA on the solution yet, but we will try to update as soon as we have the date for the fix.

If you are experiencing this issue, please take a look at the 10053 Error Megathread for more information.

Client Not Loading

We currently have identified three different issues when starting the game client. When you are stuck at the NEXON logo screen: please try to change your audio to monitor or other defaults. Sometimes game client conflicts with your audio which causes this issue.

When you are stuck at the MapleStory 2 logo (on Steam) and the client closes without even showing the Nexon logo: we are still looking into the issue, but didn't find a resolution yet. Please try to play the game on Nexon Launcher if you are facing this issue. If you use your linked email account, you will have no issue playing the game on Nexon Launcher.

Players seeing the "Oops, Something Went Terribly Wrong" message on Steam: we found a potential fix for this issue and have deployed the fix, so please let us know if you are still experiencing the issue.

Hot Topics
I would also like to take the time to discuss few of the hot topics which came up during Head Start.

South America, Mushking Royale Reward Issue
We wanted to provide this update earlier, but it took bit of time to finalize our communication on the topic. We understand there were players logging in with virtual machines and faking the rankings. For these we are still investigating the logs to ensure the lists of players we have are accurate.

Once we have the final list, we will be taking action towards those accounts. This includes banning those accounts from the game. We are sorry we couldn't take action earlier, but our top priority was preparing Head Start.

We assure you we will take time to investigate and take action against those players based on our ToS.

Trade Block
During first few days of the service, we found out a few items which shouldn't be able to traded were being traded in black market. We found the issue and blocked the trade as a temporary solution.

We will be making a proper change with the official launch to ensure those items are not tradable and we will be switching currently obtained gear to become untradeable as well.

Hair Style Rates
We saw your feedback that Paulie's Random Hairstyle rates did not seem right. We would like to share what kind of rates we currently have for Paulie's Random Hair Styles.
  • Hair Styles with NEW Mark : 5% each
  • Hair Styles without NEW Mark: 11.25% each
Our philosophy is to be transparent with all the cash shop items with random aspect. We will try to be more upfront communicating these types of rates.

Dungeon Cap/Drops
We are getting lots of feedback regarding our dungeon limit system. We are taking this feedback and discussing this matter with the Development Studio. Although we agree with certain parts of the feedback, we want to ensure we balance our views on the system by understanding the intention of the lead game designer at the Development Studio.

We are still discussing the matter, and will get back to you with the conclusion on the system.

Meanwhile, I would like to also share the note that, compared to Closed Betas, Korean, and Chinese Service, we have changed the overall drop rates of different tiers of weapons from the dungeons. This was based on the new balance Development Studio wants to pursue with the new enchanting system (which we worked on with the team to remove items breaking after 10+ enchants). We will discuss more details about this on a separate thread.

Design Shop
We are seeing great creations coming into the Design Shop and are surprised with high quality designs. But at the same time, we are seeing a few players stealing other players' templates or stealing other designs from other services.

We have dedicated agents reviewing the stolen designs and based on the reports, will be removing those items during your 10 day of review period before you get revenue share from the shop. Also, on top of that you can get banned from the game based on the Terms of Service.

Please refrain from stealing other players' designs which can be easily reviewed and punished. For those players who are seeing stolen designs, please report them in the store, so that we can take action on the designs.

Social and Communication
We are levelling up our communication with the community. We will be adding more transparency via Videos, Team Blogs and Social.

Please follow our channels:
Also, we have an official partner program called the Joddy Squad! You can find the Joddy Squad on social with #JoddySquad. We will be providing more updates on our partners with the upcoming launch!

Thank you so much for joining the MapleStory 2 community, and we hope to see more feedback and thoughts from you all on how we can do better. Also, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you might have had with small to big issues throughout the gameplay. I can assure you, the team here is working day and night to prioritize issues and trying to fix any critical ones as early as possible.

We hope you all enjoy the game, and continue to grow the awesome MapleStory 2 community!

Sincerely,
Jungsoo Lee

Producer Blog - Style Crate

Dear Maplers,

After today's livestream, we got some feedback regarding the Style Crate and, more specifically, the Style Coin Shop.

The primary feedback we received was that the price of the outfits and other cosmetic items in the Coin Shop are too expensive. We take everyone's feedback seriously and, although we took very long time to come to the shop's current model, we decided to give the Style Coin Shop a fresh look, based on the recent feedback.

Putting aside the topic of profitability, I would like to emphasize, the current monetization model we are pursuing is the result of a lot of hard work from the team here at Nexon America. We have removed most of the best sellers in other services, and we decided to be very transparent with rates and avoid playing games with tiny odds for the best items. While, we agree current price can be viewed as too expensive, I would like to provide compliment towards the team who worked on the monetization model, for removing all items with potential pay to win issues and creating a guaranteed pool of items in the Style Crate, as well as restructuring and lowering the fee for the Design Shop, compared to other regions.

But, again, we truly value your feedback, and while we know it's very difficult to make changes that will satisfy everyone, we would like to try our best. As such, we had meeting with the development studio and came to the agreement: We are lowering the price for the Style coin shop items.

I am very happy to share that, we are going to lower the price of all the items in the coin shop by 30%.

Based on the new price, the most exclusive item we have in the coin shop "Pumpkin Witch Package" which has five different outfit pieces, and with a full set providing special effects will be now priced at 76 coins. Because each item gives out 1 to 3 coins when you dismantle, and based on the rate we expect average of 1.65 coins per one Style Crate, meaning the most expensive package in coin shop will require approximately $125 USD. (Again, because of random %, this value can fluctuate)

We felt that it was important that these valuable packages items should be directly available, rather than relying on other methods to increase its rarity. As always, we look forward to hearing to your feedback on this and other aspects of our Meret Shop decisions.

A more detailed list of items in the coin shop with its price will be announced tomorrow. Again, every items will have 30% lower price points when we launch tomorrow.

We will always work hard to make right decision for the community, and we hope this change is reasonable for our community.

Best,
Jungsoo Lee
