Behold, Patch 1.4.1! Introducing custom map cycles, allowing you to create your own combination of different maps when hosting a custom match and save your favourite cycles for later! In addition, we've introduced new ways of keeping track of your achievements, some possess balancing changes, and spinning weathervanes... check it out below! 📢
[Important] Stats Transfer
All player stats and achievements have now been migrated to our own backend servers instead of Steam. This includes all player progress including levels, prop collection progress, and so on. These stats will automatically transfer upon your first login. ⚠️
If you notice any issues with the stats transfer, please let us know in the comments below this announcement, or in the Witch It Discord.
Custom Map Cycles
Custom map cycles are finally here! You now have the option to create, edit, save and load custom map cycles when hosting a custom match.
Custom map cycles can be made from any combination of Official, Featured, or Custom maps you've created or subscribed to on the Steam Workshop. 🧰
Creating a Map Cycle
To begin, press the "Edit Map Cycle" button when selecting a map to play on.
You'll now see a new interface appear on the right. Here is where your map cycle will appear!
Add a map to the cycle by clicking on it in the map list, and remove a map from the cycle by clicking on it in the map cycle preview. Chosen maps display a tick to show that they have been selected. Hit 'Reset' just below the map interface to remove all your choices and start again.
Select up to 20 maps for your map cycle from any category - mix a few of your favourite Official or Featured maps with a handful of Steam Workshop maps for a undeniably fun time! 🙌
Saving/Loading Map Cycles
Just like Match Rules +, you can save your map cycle configurations and load them later.
To save or load a map cycle, click on the "Save/Load Map Cycle' button while editing a map cycle.
Type in the name of your map cycle in the "Map Cycle Name" box, and then press "save". The map cycle you just named will now appear in the list of saved cycles. 💾
You can load a previously saved cycle by clicking on it's name and pressing 'load'. You can delete a previously saved cycle by clicking on it's name and pressing 'delete'. 🗑️
Additional Map Cycle Features
Randomizing Cycles At the bottom of the map cycle preview, there is a 'random sequence' checkbox.
☐ If the box is unchecked: your chosen map cycle will play in a linear sequence, playing each map in order of selection before looping back to the beginning when all maps have been played.
☒ If the box is checked: your chosen map cycle will play in a random sequence, meaning any other map besides the one you are currently playing will be played in the following round.
Duplicate Maps You can select the same map multiple times when editing a custom map cycle. This can be used to increase the chances of a specific map appearing in the random sequence, or to repeat specific maps after each round in the linear sequence.
For example, select each map twice so you and your friends can swap sides on the same map before cycling to a new map! 🔄
Editing Cycles during a Match Map cycles can be edited mid-game by the host, in case you change your mind about the order or selection of maps. To do so, press the ESC key during a match and click "Next Match Settings" to open up the match settings and access the maps as you would when creating a custom match. Press "Save For Next Match" to apply your map cycle changes once the current round is complete. ✔️
Achievement Improvements
Achievements now pop-up on screen when you earn them! 🌟
You can now view your achievements and their progress in the "collection" screen on the main menu (just under the Prop Collection button)! 📜
⚠️ Known Issue: Achievement dates are not displaying correctly - this will be fixed in an upcoming hotfix.
Possess Balancing
We've made some adjustments to the balancing of the witches' possess skill to keep it as an effective mobility option while ironing out some of the problems that made it far too overpowered.
Mana Cost To begin, our patch 1.4.0 changed the visual effects of the possess, significantly reducing the visibility of which direction the witch possessed towards. While we are enjoying this change so far, the time between possesses feels far too short, making escapes a lot less risky than before when combined with the new visual effects. ✨
As a result, we have increased the mana cost of possess from 40 to 50.
Possessed Props In our last major patch, we made a change that meant players left their original prop behind when possessing a new prop. Originally, this assisted witches in confusing the hunters during a pursuit, but now is very commonly used to scatter huge props - blocking doorways and disrupting the gameplay far more than we intended. ⛔
To fix this while keeping our original idea intact, props left behind by possess now dissolve after 5 seconds, unless they're repossessed. Please give the possess skill a try and let us know what you think!
Weathervanes
Weathervanes now spin when hit by a projectile or touched! 💫
Weathervanes can now only be uniformly scaled in Creative Mode to ensure they can spin when your map is being played. If you have any non-uniformly scaled weathervanes in your maps, they will be adjusted when loading the map to ensure their functionality. Weathervanes will not spin while your map is being edited in Creative Mode, but will function once you are playing your map in a custom match.
Patch Notes:

Welcome to Patch 1.4.0, featuring Match Rules +, one of our biggest additions since 1.0! We're also excited to announce the wardrobe, a new utility that allows players to switch up their skills and sets mid-round. And as always, we've packed in a bunch of changes and additions - read on! 🎉
Match Rules +
Introducing Match Rules +, a brand new way to modify your custom matches! Change a huge array of different parameters to design a unique match like no other. You can even save and load your favourite configurations for future use! ✨
To access Match Rules +, simply start a custom match through the main menu and select the "Match Rules +" option at the bottom of the screen. From there, you can adjust a range of variables across three tabs: General, Skills, and Game Modifiers. See below for a brief overview of each tab.
General Configurations
On the first tab, you can change the fundamental parameters of your match, such as gravity, movement speed, jump height, player size, and more. 🔧
Move each slider according to your preferences, or enter a specific value in the boxes to the right of each slider. In case you wish to undo a change, click the ↺ button beside each parameter, or select the "reset all to default" button to revert all alterations you've made.
✔️ Become a colossal Hunter using the player size multiplier!
✔️ Lower the gravity and cause chaos!
Skill Configurations
On the second tab, you can modify specific skill parameters, as well as the Hunter's melee and projectiles. Here, you can alter the damage, velocity, radius, mana cost and much more for each individual skill, as well as disable skills you don't want players in your match to use. 🥔
✔️ Buff the mushroom split amount, but reduce the confusion time!
✔️ Increase the Hunter's projectile amount, speed and spread, but lower the damage!
Game Modifiers
On the third tab, you can find our "game modifiers" - these are special modifiers that drastically change the gameplay of your match! Patch 1.4.0 comes with three game modifiers:
🔹 Move It All witches have to move to survive.
🔹 Dissolving Props Props will start disappearing over time.
🔹 Prop Retaliation Hitting non-Witch props will deal damage to Hunters.
To enable a game modifier, click on the corresponding modifier you wish to use and toggle the "Is enabled" parameter. Each modifier also has a few changeable parameters you can experiment with! 🧪
Save and Load Match Rules +
In the bottom right of the Match Rules + configuration, there is a button labelled "Save/Load Match Rules +". Once clicked, it will take you to a new screen where you can name and save your Match Rules + configuration. You can revisit this area anytime to overwrite your saved Match Rules +, or load a previous one you've created! 💾
Tweak Match Rules + During Custom Matches
When starting a custom match, hosts can now find a new toggle on the page named "Tweakable Match Rules +". Enabling this toggle allows the host to modify parameters in real-time by accessing the in-game menu during a round and clicking the "Match Rules +" button, as shown below:
For players wanting to try Match Rules +, we highly recommend enabling this option and experimenting with the different modifiers and parameters! Changes you make will take effect immediately, without requiring a server restart. So, feel free to get creative and see what kind of unique gameplay experiences you can come up with! 🧰
✔️ Tweak the rules while playing to find the perfect combination, then save your changes!
Swap Skills & Sets Using The Wardrobe
You can now swap your skills and custom sets during a match using the new 'wardrobe', found in the Hunter spawn of all Official and Featured Maps! A quick switch of your skill selection and appearance during play gives you the flexibility to adapt to any situation. And for our map creators: the wardrobe will be added to Creative Mode in a future update! 👖
Custom Match Search Time Capacity Increased
The maximum search time in custom matches has been increased from 10 to 20 minutes, for those wanting to play extra long rounds with less pressure of running out of time! ⏰
Extinguishable Props
Props that emit fire or smoke are now extinguished when they touch water! 🌊
In addition, we've added a temporary Classic Prop Hunt mode on multiple servers to demonstrate the potential of Match Rules +. This mode features no skills for both teams and Hunters are damaged when they attack non-Witch props, but can scan props using melee as much as they want. Give it a try and let us know what you think! 🎮
We'd love to see what wild ideas you come up with Match Rules +, so please share your screenshots and videos with us over on our Steam Hub or our Discord server! 💜

Patch 1.3.6 is here, and we're finally ready to reveal our Faraway Lands | Official Map Contest 2022 winners... as well as introducing 7 new structures, skill effects, a long-awaited recipe, and more!
Faraway Lands Results!
A few months back, we ran our 3rd ever map creation contest, named "Faraway Lands". Participants were tasked with creating a small-scale map suitable for 4-8 players, with just over a month to prepare their entries... ⌛
This time around, rather than providing a set visual theme, participants were able to let their creativity run wild and build as they like, as long as it was suitable for 4-8 players. With minimal reference to inspire this size of map, this was arguably our most difficult map contest yet. We discovered that each map creator had a vastly different approach to the player restriction; from the actual map size, to the prop density, or even utilising game mechanics like jump pads to help players traverse large sections. For clarification, the recommended player count for all winning Faraway Lands maps has been adjusted to 4-10 players in the map selection and voting screens - a little larger than we initially expected, but we hope this clears things up.
Each winner will shortly receive a Witch It Steam key, 10x Crystallized Moonlight, their name added to the description of a Creative Mode structure (the new "metal wall"), and the fabled "Grand Architect" title within our community!
We decided the winners based on a range of different factors, such as aesthetics and functionality, but map size was at the forefront of this choice. All maps were played with a lobby containing 8 judges (all from Barrel Roll Games), and our decision was made without bias towards any one creator or team. However, to prevent creators taking multiple winning spots in future contests, we are considering changing our rules for the near future. So if you didn't win this time around, don't feel disheartened - we'd love to have you back! 🎉
All winning maps are now available to play in any Hide & Seek, Mobification, or Hunt a Hag Official server, or by pressing on the "Featured Maps" tab when setting up a custom match. ✔️
Created by Farbenkeks “Ancient magic lingers in Singing Sanctuary and keeps the place evergreen.”
Following Precious Palaces, Farbenkeks took home a well-deserved win with Vermilion Valley, cementing themselves in the community as one of it's most talented map builders. While Singing Sanctuary is thematically far different to their previous entry, Farbenkeks' close attention to detail and imaginative use of structures returns once again in its full glory. Congratulations!
Created by NotSure & CDJS “After a fateful run-in with a sea behemoth, The Coven of the Trade Winds washed ashore this tropical island. Shipwrecked and stranded, they've built a new life for themselves in the shelter of a small cove.”[Full Story]
Coven's Cove is CDJS and NotSure's debut entry to our map contests, and we're very impressed with what they've created! The landscape is relatively minimalist, yet greatly satisfying to traverse and hide within. Fans of Loakiki Paradise will find Coven's Cove familiar and comfortable to explore, but will need to be even more cunning with their hiding spots, since the cove is one of our smallest maps to date. Well done!
Created by Reekyu “A wooden fortress built on a fossil filled island.”
Reekyu never fails to miss a map contest, and subsequently never fails to miss out on a winning spot! Bone Pit is a masterpiece in both form and function; the map is visually stunning and extremely easy to navigate, with well placed pathways and jump pads. While on the larger-size compared to other winners, the jump pads allow Hunters to quickly travel across the map while scanning for hidden Witches. Great work, Reekyu!
Created by Reekyu “An ancient temple cursed with dark magic.”
Reekyu's second winning map of Faraway Lands is Ancient Temple, a dark and creepy interior-only map that's not for the weak-stomached. Look up, and you may see a spiders web so thickly-spun that even the temple's fallen stones haven't breached it's surface... amazing job!
Created by Gelato & Emote “Martin's Chamber aka "Odaia lui Martin””
Gelato and Emote, previous winners of Precious Palaces with Kasbah le Ribat, make a surprise return to Faraway Lands with Martin's Chamber! Enter an abandoned, overgrown mansion on an estate long-forgotten, and seek shelter within its ivy walls. Martin's Chamber makes clever use of structures to create a building that doesn't feel prefabricated... simply impressive!
Created by Reekyu “Built on the edge of a swamp sits the home of a lonely, but happy hunter.”
Sunset Swamp is Reekyu's third and final winning map of Faraway Lands - we just couldn't shake the feeling that this one deserved to be among our winners too! A thick, dense swamp surrounds a hand-crafted settlement built from its surrounding resources. Take shelter indoors, or hide under the vines and shrubbery scattered across the swampland. Excellent work!
Honourable Mentions:
As expected from our talented building community, all entries this contest were remarkable and consequently difficult to judge. Every entry we received deserved a win in their own unique ways. However, we wanted to showcase a few of our favourites that didn't make the final cut. Please, subscribe to these maps below and send your support to these brilliant creators! 💌
Every author in the honourable mentions will receive a 10x Crystallized Moonlight bonus! All entrants who weren't mentioned in this announcement will receive 5x Crystallized Moonlight, too!
This contest, we decided to introduce an all-new "Presentation Prize", awarded to the three entries with the best presented workshop pages. Since we had so many beautiful pages to choose from, we've decided to grant 4 winners for the presentation prize rather than our initial 3.
Each winner will receive 10 Crystallized Moonlight and their names added to the description of a Creative Mode structure (the "large wooden sign")! ✨
hgbf's incredible 3D animation work and Obscura's creative lore writing is an undeniable match-up! Check out Fairground Island's trailer below, and the workshop page here!
hgbf takes a second presentation prize winning spot with their breathtaking 3D trailer for Unknown Destination, and we love the animated banners on the workshop page! View the workshop page here!
fri. and Reekyu's Voodoo Village features a trailer that leaves you extremely curious, complimented by a well-organised and sleek workshop page! View their workshop page here!
7 New Metal Structures!
Map creators! We've added a bunch of new metallic structures for you to place within your maps, including the Hunter Figurehead, Metal Beam Holder, Metal Cube, Metal Mast Holder, and Metal Clip.
In addition, the Metal Wall and Large Wooden Sign has been added, with their descriptions including the main contest winners and presentation prize winners names. ✍️
New Skill Effects!
We've revisited the existing skill set and made some much-needed changes to their visual effects - all to make them more appealing and enjoyable to use! The Powerball and Mushroom have had full visual reworks, and the Hook now has an impact effect and dash lines... zoom! ⚡
A New Recipe!
Item crafters, rejoice! We've finally added a recipe to convert 40 mandrakes into 10 crystallized moonlight. It's about time... 💜

(Another) Faraway Lands Update:
Faraway Lands results are just around the corner - our next patch will introduce the winning maps to our Official map pool, and we can't wait to show you the results! Previously, we aimed to have this ready in January but we just need a little more time to carefully implement the new maps. Hang tight! ⌛
6 New CNY & Valentines Skins!
As always, we've got some incredible new Chinese New Years skins, including the Water Rabbit Hat and Hair for Witch, and the Water Rabbit Head for the Hunter. We hope you love them as much as we do!
And of course, Valentines is just around the corner - collect the Blooming Rose (projectile), Dreamy Cupid's Dart (melee, colour variant), and Scarlet Rose Bouquet (broom, colour variant) through crafting or the item cauldron. 💘
How do I obtain the new Chinese New Year items?
Opening Witch It during the Chinese New Year 2023 event will grant you 20 "Fireworks"! A Firework contains a random Chinese New Years item (including CNY items from previous years), which can only be opened by combining them with "Gunpowder".
To earn Gunpowder, fill up the Item Cauldron with 250 experience points. You can see the item cauldron fill up at the end of the round, on the level up screen.
Gunpowder has a 40% chance of being earned on any Official server once the item cauldron is filled, and you can earn it on any map. If you're lucky enough to earn one, head back to the main menu and press 'Chinese New Years Event' to combine it with your Fireworks!
Every Chinese New Year 2023 item is tradable and craftable even after the event is over. If you use up all your Fireworks, you can craft more by combining 5 Gunpowder together! Note: Gunpowder can only be obtained in Official servers.
You can also receive the new items through: - Random drops from filling up the item cauldron at the end of a round. - Trading with other players (we recommend using our Discord server to find traders).
Year of the Rabbit Player Icon!
Pair up your Rabbit-themed cosmetics with this limited-time "Year of the Rabbit" player icon! Play at least one round of Witch it in an Official server during the Chinese New Year 2023 event to earn the icon, but be quick - after the event ends, it will no longer be obtainable! 🐰
4 New Action Props & More Switchables!
Prop collectors - go find four new action props that each can be activated by pressing your "prop action" button ('E' by default). Introducing the Firecracker, Bomb, Confetti Cannon and Rabbit Firework - search for them in our Official maps! 🧨
In addition, all action props (that can be activated) are now switchable in Creative Mode, meaning you can now hook up fireworks, explosives, and much more to pressure pads and levers. We can't wait to see what interesting contraptions or scenic effects you come up with!
