It has been about half a year since the open beta. As a small dev team, we feel quite excited as well as uneasy about this full release. Before that, we’d like to share our opinions on the game itself and its future with you commanders.

Art of War: Red Tides should be fun
“Players can team up with others from all over the world on all platforms available to try countless strategies and tactics, and enjoy each victory.”

With such an idea in mind, our dev team had upgraded and optimized each aspect of the game again and again in the past half a year, including A.I., matchmaking, global server, game mechanics, and units/commander skills. We devoted ourselves to producing a multiplayer game that is easy to learn but hard to master. Also, we hope it can bring you the pleasure that can hardly be replaced.

“Imagine a multiplayer game in which paying players can overwhelm non-paying players, will you play such a game?”

The dev team often asked themselves the above question when they were designing units, skills, balance, and monetization plans of the game. Obviously, the answer is NO. Art of War: Red Tides will adopt “free download + in-game purchase” pattern, and the in-game store will sell neither exclusive items that could influence the match, nor in-game currencies.

Since our last beta test, we have received a lot of criticism and advice. We have to be frank that we cannot cover them all. However, we value those advice proposed by players who had invested dozens of hours or more in the game. We discussed them one by one. And this time, we will still tag the release as an Early Access, because we never think that Art of War: Red Tides is good enough, and we believe that it still has a long way to go. Fortunately, it can go on the journey with players who love it.

We believe that you, commanders, will never be fulfilled with the repeated battles and strategies, and that whether topped up or not, you are always prepared to face your rivals. You are eager to explore the unknown world and have the ambition to break down cultural barriers and pursue freedom and individuality. Generally, Commander Skills are expected to disturb the battle to SOME degree, for example, Airborne can send extra troops to the battlefield, and Bombing Run can destroy the enemy’s units on a large scale. However, this time we reveal some Skills that could TURN the tables!

First of all please take a look at the following GIF:

This is a new Commander Skill for Yaoguai——Killing Time!

90 seconds after the skill is released, all units in the battlefield will be influenced: the damage they deal to other units will be twofold, HP will be halved, and armor will drop to zero.

With this skill, five AP Crossbowmen could destroy a Bear in a split-second. Unicorn only need to launch the attack once and most of the enemy’s units will be powerless to resist. And imagine how powerful will other ranged attack units (the Markscat and the Tank) will be!

During our open beta, Mind Control plus Monkeymorph was the most popular combo among Commanders when Yaoguai troops were selected. However, this combo doesn’t work at all facing mechanical units, for the Monkeymorph is only effective to biological units.

So, in order to deal with this problem, Yaoguai finally worked out a way:



They acquired another Commander Skill——Animism!

This skill will transfer mechanical units into biological ones from genetic level, and maintain this status for 18 seconds, effective for both sides.

This means that mechanical units will be no longer immune to the Monkeymorph. The Asterions, Battleships, and even Arhats will be turned into monkeys and fight for you. Immediately, you will dominate the war!

On the other hand, however, this also means that the enemy will try his best to terminate your Yaoguai troops as soon as possible.

Moreover, a combo of three skills requires not only a fast finger speed, but also a tremendous consumption of gold. Meanwhile, even if you turn the enemy’s units into yours, after they are destroyed by the enemy’s troops, the gold will be awarded to the enemy.

Release it or not, this is a question.

After we revealed the Electronic Warfare Engineer, many Commanders got amazed but at the same time worried that there is no way to fight back. We understand that you have a lot of questions. But calm down. Listen to me.

In order to make the battle more tactical, we endowed different units with different abilities. Some support units play a key role in combating some powerful damage dealers. That is why we hammered out the Electronic Warfare Engineer. It can save you from the overpowered Arhat group, and free you from the Amethyst Spider’s mind control.

You may complain that with the Electronic Warfare Engineer, mechanical units will never have a chance!

Please take it easy my Commanders, and welcome our new member——the Bio-warfare Engineer!

Since it is also a type of Engineer, it can surely heal your mechanical units. What’s more, it is born with an overwhelming ability——causing plague by releasing virus!

Specifically speaking, the Bio-warfare Engineer is able to spray toxic haze, and the enemy’s biological units shrouded in the haze will be infected with plague. The plague will explode every once in a while to infect surrounding biological units. Such units will lose HP in a fixed frequency till they die.
No you didn’t make it wrong, I say “TILL THEY DIE”.

The toxic haze sprayed by the Bio-warfare Engineer will infect any unit in it, whether cloaked or not.

Because of this, the powerful Commandos will also be impacted. Then the Scholar troops, the Chan Masters, the Unicorns, the Markscats, the Bears, etc.

The Bio-warfare Engineer may bring biological units a disaster…

During the development of the game, we have adjusted the Commander Skills and added some skills that you’ve never seen.

First of all, please welcome the giant fish:



This new Atlac Commander Skill is called Kunpeng.

It is a Battleship generated by the wisdom of the Atlac. Its active ability can cloak your units around it.



Kunpeng will withdraw to your military base when your units are not nearby.



Even if it is destroyed, Kunpeng won’t disappear immediately, instead, its wreckage will largely speed up the recovery of the surrounding Atlac units’ shield ability.
