Rewards
The available rewards, as well as the formats of Ranked Battles, differ from season to season. For the current Season, victories can bring you up to 4,700 Steel; 2,750 doubloons; one Ranked Token; and many other rewards.

League flags reduce the cost of servicing your ships by 10% and 20% until the end of the Season. Any flags awarded for entering the Leagues will be removed from player accounts once the Season ends.

He served his country for 26 years, and he continues his service as a volunteer on board the USS Lexington museum since it opened in 1992!
Stream starts: Fri. 15 May 23:00 CEST (UTC+2)

Captain Batterson recently celebrated his 99th Birthday May 8th, and we all wish him a very happy belated birthday and thank him for his years of service.

We understand many of you may want to ask Captain Batterson a question, however, with a limited amount of time during the event we may not have the chance to share everyone's question.

"Battleship X Montana will no longer ride the waves—her guns have fallen silent forever," was what Detective Kléberot thought after arriving at the crime scene and finding the battleship’s hull full of holes. Poor X Midway was off to one side, suffering in a state of shock from the ghastly sight.

“This accident is more than strange—it’s inconceivable… Absurd… Unmotivated... or perhaps it only seems so?” Detective Kléberot continued his line of thought: “either no one, or anyone, could be suspected of the crime...Or perhaps someone else at least had something to do with it?”

Soviet Cruisers

Soviet Tier VIII–IX heavy cruisers are coming to Early Access!

Features of the new Tech Tree branch
  • Effective AP shells with excellent armor penetration capabilities, good ballistics, fewer over-penetrations, and enhanced ricochet angles.
  • A relatively long reload time and special accuracy settings: the ships of the new branch have a larger dispersion ellipse at long distances in comparison to other cruisers.
  • The combination of their accuracy settings and the Surveillance Radar consumable they carry, which has a 12 km operating range, makes the new cruisers most efficient in medium-range encounters.
With the release of Update 0.9.5, X Moskva and V Kirov will be replaced in the Tech Tree by X Alexander Nevsky and V Kotovsky, respectively. VIII Tallinn, IX Riga, and X Petropavlovsk will become available to research in Update 0.9.6.
  • V Mikoyan, Early Access Soviet cruisers VIII Tallinn and IX Riga, and the Soviet permanent camouflage will be available in bundles that can be exchanged for Soviet Tokens. The bundles are opened in sequential order.
  • You’ll find Soviet Tokens in event containers that can be obtained by completing Directives or received from Daily Shipments. You can also earn Soviet Tokens by gaining victories playing cruisers VIII Pyotr Bagration, VIII Ochakov, and V Mikoyan.
  • Completing all four Directives will reward you with the Soviet permanent camouflage for V Mikoyan.
  • VIII Pyotr Bagration and VIII Ochakov are available in the Armory in exchange for doubloons.

Submarine Battle

Starts: Wed. 27 May 06:00 CEST (UTC+2)
Ends: Wed. 24 Jun. 06:00 CEST (UTC+2)

Submarines are arriving and will be playable in a separate battle type! This will enable us to continue testing the new ship type while we adjust the balance and mechanics on the live server by involving more participants, and won’t affect the other battle types. Only once we're done with all these steps will we be able to decide on the final fate of the new unit type.
Players will be able to enter Submarine Battles playing submarines and Tier VI ships.
Submarines are fragile but stealthy hunters, capable of traveling not only horizontally, but also diving into the depths. The diving depth of a submarine affects her detectability, viewing range, and range of possible interactions with other submarines and ship types.

The main armament carried by submarines is acoustic homing torpedoes. You can launch an attack from any depth, and submarine-specific mechanics—sonar pings—will help you increase the potential effectiveness of your torpedo salvos. Keep an eye on your battery charge and use sonar pings wisely. Torpedoes can ascend from the depths and hit an enemy only with the help of an active effect from a sonar ping. If you run out of battery charge, reduce your speed to 1/4 or ascend to the surface level to recharge it.

Keep an eye on enemy destroyers and cruisers. All destroyers, as well as cruisers VI Dallas, VI Budyonny, VI Leander, and VI Perth carry depth charges. These are an effective weapon that can hit submarines hiding underwater.
You will find more details about the new event, features of submarines, and ways to counter them in a dedicated article.

Enhanced Consumables

Enhanced consumables are set to become free, while standard consumables will be removed entirely. Consequently, all battles will be fought with ships utilizing enhanced consumables, and players no longer need to spend credits on them.
Enhanced consumables mounted on ships and kept in the Inventory will automatically be exchanged for credits at a rate of 1:22,500. “More Consumables” containers will no longer be obtainable, and any such containers that you already have on your account will each automatically be exchanged for 160,000 credits. For other rewards, enhanced consumables will be replaced with signals.
Since aircraft carriers have no enhanced consumables, their parameters won't change, and the cost of servicing aircraft carriers has been adjusted to make it equal relative to other ship types. For example, the cost of servicing Tier X aircraft carriers will be reduced from 240,000 to 180,000 credits.

Ranked Battles

Start: Wed. 20 May 11:00 CEST (UTC+2)
End: Tue. 16 Jun. 10:30 CEST (UTC+2)

Format: 7 vs. 7 playing Tier VII ships
Rewards: up to 4,700 Steel and many additional rewards
Maps: Archipelago, Ring, Big Race, New Dawn, Trident, Neighbors, and Riposte
The Season’s details will be published in a dedicated article.
Interface, Graphics, and Audio

  • The design of the Modules tab has been updated. Under this tab, you can now view all upgrades and consumables for any ships that you haven't yet obtained.

  • Ships can be researched and obtained via the Tech Tree screen. Click on a ship once to open the Spec Sheet with Purchase/Research buttons. Click on a ship twice to open the Modules tab. Clicking on an empty area of the Tech Tree will hide the Spec Sheet.

  • The consumable and armament icons have been updated.
  • The Northern Lights, Shatter, Sleeping Giant, Loop, Greece, and Crash Zone Alpha maps have been reworked to accommodate the new lighting model and enhanced HDR technology.
  • A special animation is now displayed when a shell ricochets off armor.
  • We’ve enhanced the visual display of boat handrails, as well as rigging, in Ports and on maps.
  • Updated the national voiceovers for Polish, Dutch, and Austro-Hungarian ships. The presence of any unique Commander voiceovers is now taken into account when the "National+" voiceover is selected.
Game Maps and Modes

The following maps have been reworked:
  • Loop: the location of islands has been updated. This will make approaching Key Areas and maneuvering within them easier.
  • The Atlantic: an island located in square A7 at the map border has been removed.
The starting number of points in Domination mode in Co-op Battles has been increased:
  • from 300 to 400 points in the mode with 3 Key Areas.
  • from 200 to 300 points in the mode with 4 Key Areas.
This will help reduce the number of battles that end due to one of the teams reaching zero points.

Other Changes
Check under the spoiler for more information on balance-related changes, content changes and additions, and other improvements.

Game Balance Changes

In Update 0.9.4, we've made changes to the parameters of certain ships based on our analysis of their battle efficiency and feedback from players. Tier VI German destroyer Ernst Gaede:
  • Hydroacoustic Search consumable is available for mounting on a standard hull.
Aircraft:
  • The spotting range of all aircraft has been reduced from 17 to 16 km (spotting range being a parameter that determines the distance at which an aircraft can detect a hostile target).
Content Additions and Changes

The Armory now offers containers with elements of the "Resolute and Rapid" collection. The containers can be obtained in exchange for 6,000 Coal. The reward for completing the entire collection is the unique Italian historical Commander, Luigi Sansonetti.
With the release of Update 0.9.4, all European Tokens will be exchanged for credits at the rate of 1:7,500.
The Victory Day permanent camouflage, which is available in exchange for doubloons, has been added to the Camouflage tab of the Exterior section for the following ships: VIII Alabama, V Texas, VII New Orleans, VII Duke of York, VIII Implacable, VI Aigle, VII Minsk, and V Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya.

The following expendable camouflages have been added: Recruiting Station, Trophy, Awarded, Deserved, and Triumphant.

More details on how to get these items will be announced later.

The following ships have been added for testing by developers, supertesters, and community contributors: IV Rhein, VI Weser, VIII August von Parseval, X Manfred von Richthofen, VIII Z-35, and VIII V. I. Lenin.

Other Changes and Improvements

  • Increased the game client loading speed when a large number of Commanders are present in the Port.
  • Account Levels have been renamed Access Levels. Reaching a new level is now accompanied by a voiceover.
  • A ship’s detectability range by air is now equal to the firing range of the ship's AA guns for a period of two seconds after her AA guns cease firing. This affects detectability only in situations where enemy aircraft are within the range of your AA defenses.
  • Updated the algorithm that selects recommended Clans and updated the design of the Recommendations tab in the Clans section.
  • Reworked the animation of the torpedo-aiming cone. Now the aiming cone moves more smoothly near the target position.
  • The word “Flag” has been removed from the names of flags.
  • Fixed bugs in the descriptions of the features of ship branches in the Tech Tree.
  • Fixed a bug due to which the fore and aft athwartship bulkheads of VIII Graf Zeppelin and VIII Graf Zeppelin B had a thickness of 20 mm. Now the thickness of part of the bulkheads is 60 mm.
  • Small corrections have been made to textures and models of the following ships: VIII Mainz, VI Guépard, VII Skåne, X Småland, X Venezia, VIII Vladivostok, X Daring, X Hayate, X Ohio, IX Brindisi, I Eritrea, X Halland, VI Trento, IX Georgia, VII Sims, VIII Amalfi, VII Zara, X Minotaur, V Visby, VIII Siliwangi, V Raimondo Montecuccoli, X Marceau, II Enseigne Gabolde, VIII Lightning, and IX Östergötland.
  • Fixed a bug that caused a string of lights of the New Year permanent camouflage on aircraft carriers to be lit up from bow to stern, when they should light up from stern to bow.
  • Fixed a bug that caused X Smolensk to be displayed as a Premium ship, and not as a special one.
  • Fixed bugs on maps Archipelago, Estuary, Polar, Haven, and Tears of the Desert; and in Ports New York, Marseille, and Fjords.
  • Fixed a bug due to which, when inserting text with characters <, >, or ^ into a chat message in the Port, cause the text to be cut off. Now these characters will be removed.
  • Fixed a bug that caused players to not automatically be disconnected from the server after 3 hours of inactivity.
  • Fixed the display of tooltips when hovering over the “Ready” and “Not Ready” buttons in the Training Room and on the Division screen.

  • Fixed a bug that caused the icon of a completed mission of a Campaign to move down if the mouse was hovered over it.
  • Fixed a bug where secondary guns could shoot at the enemy through allied ships.
  • Fixed a bug that made it possible to confirm the "Ready" status in a Division for Clan Battles with an unsuitable ship selected.
  • Fixed a bug where the torpedo alarm indicator, collision alert indicator, and the Radio Location indicator didn’t allow players to select a priority target for their secondary battery guns.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the buoys indicating the boundaries of Key Areas to be displayed only at close range.
  • Fixed a bug where a squadron’s reticle before the start of an attack was not displayed in the spot where it was fully aimed.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented players from mounting the Ship Consumables Modification 1 upgrade on VII Belfast and VII Z-39.
  • Fixed the incorrect naming of the AA guns on III Romulus.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the names of items in collections to be written in capital letters.
  • Fixed a bug that caused a marker above a torpedo to appear before the torpedo was armed.

Early Access ● Directives ● Soviet Сontainers ● Rewards for Soviet Tokens ● Combat Missions ● Random Bundles ● Daily Shipments

Early Access
Researchable Soviet cruisers VIII Tallinn and IX Riga are arriving in Early Access. To obtain them, you can exchange Soviet Tokens for bundles in the Armory that are opened in sequential order.

Soviet Tokens: a themed temporary resource that can be obtained from Soviet containers or random bundles.

Soviet containers: obtained by completing Directives or received in Daily Shipments.

Bundles that provide Early Access to Soviet cruisers can be obtained in the Armory in exchange for Soviet Tokens. There are a total of six bundles that are opened in sequential order. In these bundles, you'll find cruisers V Mikoyan, VIII Tallinn, and IX Riga, as well as the Soviet permanent camouflage for cruisers Tallinn, Riga, and X Petropavlovsk.

What are the new Soviet cruisers’ distinctive features?
  • One of the main features of the new sub-branch is their effective armor-piercing shells with good ballistic properties, high penetration, and a short fuse-arming delay time, the latter of which will significantly decrease the number of overpenetrations. Salvos fired from these ships are effective against both battleships and cruisers.
  • An average reloading time and special accuracy settings: the new ships have a larger dispersion ellipse at long distances in comparison to other cruisers.
  • When these ships are positioned wisely, they will demonstrate their decent ability to absorb hits thanks to the good armor protection they enjoy for their type.
  • As with most cruisers, you can choose between Hydroacoustic Search and Defensive AA Fire.
  • Cruisers of Tier IX and above have the Repair Party consumable at their disposal.
  • The combination of their accuracy settings and the Surveillance Radar consumable with a 12 km operating range makes the new cruisers most efficient in medium-range encounters.
Cruisers VIII Tallinn, IX Riga, and X Petropavlovsk will become available to research in Update 0.9.6.
Directives

The new game event tasks you with completing 42 missions spread across four Directives. The first Directive will become available with the release of Update 0.9.4, while those that follow will be unlocked on a weekly basis. Completing the event’s missions and Directives will bring you signals, expendable camouflage patterns, credits, and Soviet containers, as well as other rewards.

Reward for completing all Directives: the Soviet permanent camouflage for cruiser V Mikoyan.
The Directives can be completed until Tue. 09 Jun. 07:00 CEST (UTC+2)
Detailed information on the Directives and Hall of Fame rewards can be found in the game client.
Soviet Сontainers

Players will be able to obtain Soviet containers from Daily Shipments (up to six containers) and by completing Directives (up to 54 containers).

Each Soviet container includes 5, 10, 15, 25, or 300 Soviet Tokens.
Once you've obtained all the available containers from Daily Shipments and for completing Directives, you're guaranteed to have collected enough Tokens to obtain cruiser V Mikoyan.

Rewards for Soviet Tokens
Bundles that provide Early Access
All available rewards will be visible in advance of making an exchange. After making an exchange for one bundle, the contents of the next bundle will become visible to you.

  • All ships are added with a Commander with 3 skill points and a Port slot.
  • If you already have V Mikoyan in your Port, the bundle will provide you with a Commander, Port slot, and compensation for the ship in the form of doubloons.

Other rewards
You can also exchange Soviet Tokens for the following rewards in the Armory:

With the release of Update 0.9.5, Soviet Tokens will only be obtainable from random bundles available for doubloons. After Update 0.9.6 goes live, all Soviet Tokens will be converted into credits at the rate of 1:9,000.

Combat Missions
Cruisers VIII Ochakov and VIII Pyotr Bagration will be available in the Armory in exchange for doubloons. While playing these ships, as well as cruiser V Mikoyan, you can complete special combat missions that will bring you between 15–30 Soviet Tokens for victories in battles, depending on the ship. More details on combat missions are available in the game client.

Random Bundles

The Soviet Cruisers section of the Armory has been stocked with random bundles. Each of them can be obtained for 500 doubloons.
  • All the rewards are visible in advance: the bundles’ contents and their amounts are displayed when viewing the currently available bundle.
  • After each exchange, the contents of the next random bundle will become available to exchange.
  • Having collected all the bundles, you're guaranteed to have obtained all the available rewards.

Daily Shipments

During Update 0.9.4, enter the game in the period between May 14 and 28, inclusive, to start getting valuable rewards from the Daily Shipments section.

You can get a total of 10 rewards, while the shipments are available for 14 days. Thus, you can skip 4 days out of 2 weeks and still claim all the valuable rewards.

The matchmaker is a system for distributing players between teams that ensures the teams are balanced in terms of ship types and tiers.

The main parameter considered when distributing ships is the battle tier—the highest tier of ships in an individual battle. For example, a battle that involves Tier V–VII ships is a Tier VII battle. The maximum battle tier in which ships can participate is set for each ship.

The matchmaker follows a specific set of rules when creating Random Battles
  • The teams have an equal number of players. An ideal battle is played in a 12 vs. 12 format, but the required number of players can be reduced in cases where the waiting time spent by the first player in the queue exceeds 3 minutes.
  • There is a maximum difference of one tier between ship tiers in battles involving Tier II–IV ships.
  • The maximum ship-tier difference in a single battle is two tiers for Tier VII battles and above.
Please note: this article explains how the matchmaker works in Random Battles. The rules it follows in other battle types can differ due to the specifics of each battle type. This information is relevant to Update 0.9.3.1.

Features of the Matchmaker
The matchmaker is integral to World of Warships, and we are constantly making efforts to improve its algorithms. It's designed to assemble the most effective and balanced team lineups while having as little adverse impact on the battle queue waiting times as possible.

Types and Tiers
In addition to the ship's tier, the matchmaker also takes each ship's type into account. The following rules are applied for these two parameters:
  • The matchmaker initially tries to assemble exactly mirrored team lineups in terms of ship tiers and types. If the matchmaker isn't able to assemble a battle in this way, it then proceeds to match ships of lower tiers while ignoring the ship-type parameter. For example, in a Tier VIII battle, it's possible for a Tier VI battleship to be matched to a Tier VI cruiser, or even a Tier VI destroyer. This rule doesn't apply to aircraft carriers.
  • The matchmaker limits the numbers of ships of specific types in a battle. While teams consisting of only battleships would probably be able to fight in a very efficient manner, such a battle would hardly be interesting or diverse. For example: the number of destroyers and battleships in a team won't exceed four and five ships, respectively, provided that the matchmaker's queue has a normal number of players waiting. The number of aircraft carriers won't exceed two ships in a team for any battle tier.
  • There are certain tier restrictions in place: in Update 0.9.3 we added a soft restriction on the minimum number of ships allowed that are two tiers lower than the battle tier, and also on the maximum number of ships of the highest tier in the battle. For example: even in a Tier X battle in which you're playing a Tier VIII ship, you'll meet several enemies of the same tier as yours. For Tier X battles, a team should include at least three ships of Tier VIII, if such ships are waiting in the queue, and a maximum of five ships of Tier X, if the matchmaker's queue has a normal number of waiting players.
  • If possible, ships of different nations are distributed between teams on an even basis.

The rules described above constitute the soft restrictions. For each battle tier, several sets of settings are used that replace each other, depending on the waiting time in the queue—the longer the battle waiting time, the softer the restrictions.
The matchmaker doesn't take into account such parameters as the upgrades and modules mounted on a ship, the number of skills and talents a Commander has, or a player's combat statistics.
Battle History
When matching teams, the algorithm also takes your battle history into account, i.e. the number of battles you've played with ships of the same tier as yours and lower, with ships one or two tiers higher, and where all ships were of the same tier. We also collect separate statistics for each battle type and ship tier you play. After a short calibration period, the matchmaker will ensure that the percentage of battles with ships of the specified tier doesn't exceed the set limits, so as to prevent long series of battles fighting against ships of higher tiers. When a player joins the queue for their next battle, the algorithm takes the player's previous 20 battles into account when assembling their team, thus ensuring that the set limitations are met.

Example: for Tier VIII ships, there's a maximum limit of 40% of battles with ships two tiers higher. If you played Tier VIII ships in your 20 most recent battles, a maximum of eight battles would have included Tier X ships.

Playing in a Division
The following rules apply when you play in a Division:
  • The difference between ship tiers within a Division must not exceed one tier. This means that when playing Tier VII ship, you can only enter battle with Division mates playing ships of Tiers VI–VIII.
  • A Division can have only one aircraft carrier.
  • The matchmaker rules ensure that a player cannot encounter ships that are outside of the player's tier range in Random Battles. However, when a player is a member of a Division, the matchmaker ignores this rule for ships of lower tiers. For example, when you're playing a Tier VII ship in a Division and your Division mate is playing a Tier VIII ship, you might find yourself in a battle involving Tier X ships.
  • There is a maximum difference of one Division between opposing teams within a single battle.

The Matchmaker for Newcomers
World of Warships has a special queue for novice players entering battle—a so-called Sandbox.
  • When playing ships of Tier I–IV, newcomers are put into a special queue that excludes players who have fought more than 70 battles.
  • If a player's waiting time in the queue exceeds 60 seconds, and the matchmaker has at least one enemy of a suitable ship type and tier, a battle will be assembled. If necessary, the teams can be complemented with bot ships.
  • If the matchmaker fails to assemble a battle after the player has spent more than 60 seconds waiting in the queue, the player is placed in the general queue without leaving the sandbox queue.
  • Players from the same Division can be placed in the queue for newcomers only if all the players meet the requirements specified above.
