Update 0.8.7.1 hits the live servers on September 4. With its arrival, European destroyer Friesland is entering the game, and the Armory is set to offer random bundles that can be obtained in exchange for Coal.
Due to the release of Update 0.8.7.1, cross-server matchmaking will not be available for Clan Battles on Wednesday, 4th September.

New Content
Meet destroyer IX Friesland—the newcomer to the European Tech Tree branch. In contrast to other destroyers, Friesland doesn’t carry any torpedo armament. However, this is completely compensated for by her rapid-firing artillery and a good choice of consumables.

Key features
  • Four main battery guns with a very high rate of fire (their reload time is 1.8 seconds without upgrades mounted or Commander skills mastered), very good shell ballistics, comfortable aiming angles, and a fast main turret traverse speed.
  • The AA defenses are additionally reinforced with the Defensive AA Fire consumable in a separate slot.
  • The Smoke Generator consumable with features characteristic of American destroyers: her smoke screens will last longer than 2 minutes. The Hydroacoustic Search consumable, which comes in a separate slot, will allow you to assuredly detect enemy ships at a distance of 5 km, and enemy torpedoes—at 3.5 km.
IX Friesland can be obtained in the game for 1,000,000 Free XP.

Random Bundles
Update 0.8.7.1 will give you a chance to exchange Coal for valuable rewards: credits, French Riviera camouflages, and special/economic signals.

The Legion of Honor section of the Armory will be complemented with random bundles that can be obtained in exchange for 3,000 Coal each.

Random bundles are an in-game exchange mechanic for obtaining items from the Armory. It functions in the following way:
  • All the rewards are visible in advance: the bundles’ contents and their amounts are displayed when viewing the currently available bundle.
  • After each exchange, one new random bundle opens out of 32 available.
  • Having collected all the bundles, you're guaranteed to have obtained all the available rewards.

Please note that these random bundles will cease to be available with the release of Update 0.8.9.

Bugs Fixed
  • Fixed a bug that caused the disappearance of the image on the cargo ship banner in the Port.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the Summer Season patch not to be displayed.

0.8.7 AA Changes – Credits Compensation
Commanders!
In Update 0.8.7 we changed the AA mechanics in our game. One of these changes made it so that only ships with long-range AA capabilities can make use of aerial explosions. Because of this, the "AA Guns Modification 1" upgrade has become ineffective on certain ships that don’t have a long-range AA defense zone.

Therefore, players will be compensated in the amount of 250,000 credits for each ship in their port which both does not have a long-range AA zone, and has the "AA Guns Modification 1" upgrade installed.

World of Warships - WoWs Admiral

World of Warships is the largest virtual shipyard in the world. The quality of work done by our artists improves each year, and the requirements for the accuracy of the models they create improve respectively.

Unfortunately, the in-game camera doesn't allow you to see all the details and beauty of the models. In the Dry Dock show, you'll be able to see everything in detail and duly appreciate their complexity and appearance, even down to the appearance of the objects on their decks.

Today, we’re focusing on a Tier X ship from the Japanese battleship branch, and one of the most famous warships in the world—Yamato. Even those people who are unfamiliar with the details of her sea battles have heard about this ship; her monumental appearance and the fact that she has the largest guns in naval history attract a lot of attention! Take a look at the legendary warship from an unusual angle in Dry Dock.

How to get research points?
After resetting the branch, a new symbol will appear on ships in the tech tree. To get research points you need to research and purchase the ship with this symbol and win a battle with her.

The underlying principle of player progression within our game involves moving from lower tier to higher tier ships, all the way up to the apex of each branch—Tier X ships. However, the game has an enormous number of different-tiered ships, and each of them offers gameplay experiences that are equally interesting as those of Tier X ships.

Update 0.8.7 is set to introduce a new progression system—the Research Bureau. You will be able to earn a new resource—Research Points—which can be exchanged for valuable rewards. All that’s required is to reset researchable branches of ships and progress through them anew.
The goal of the Research Bureau is to further motivate players to engage with all tiers of their favorite ship branches and earn unique rewards along the way.
Research Points and Rewards ● Seasons ● Bonuses and Activities
https://youtu.be/F9Yobe7n9yU

Research Points and Rewards
Research Points can be exchanged in the new section of the Armory called the Research Bureau.

When the new system launches, French cruiser X Colbert will be available for 57,000 Research Points. Later, she will be joined by American battleship X Ohio.

If you aren't ready to invest your Research Points in a new ship, you’ll always have the opportunity to exchange them for bundles with combat signals or Free XP. For example, a bundle with 250,000 Free XP will be available for just 12,500 Research Points.

Please note: the Research Bureau section of the Armory will only become available after earning your first Research Points.

How can you earn Research Points?
If you have at least five Tier X ships researched, you will gain access to the Research Bureau, along with a one-time reward of 10,000 Research Points and the option to reset any of the researched branches of ships.
Rules of resetting
  • You must have researched a Tier X ship in the branch you intend to reset. However, the actual ships of this branch do not have to be purchased and in your Port.
  • A branch that’s reset will be completely rolled back to the Tier I ship.
    • If you’ve researched the British cruiser branch up to X Minotaur, upon resetting the branch, all cruisers starting from I Black Swan will have to be researched once again.
    • If, for example, a branch has parallel lines that reach Tier X, such as the Soviet destroyer branch, you can choose which of the lines to reset. If you decide to reset the branch of Soviet destroyers starting from X Grozovoi, it will be reset to VII Minsk, then to II Storozhevoi, and then cruiser II Novik. At the same time, you'll be able to reset the second branch from X Khabarovsk on the same principle, but in this case, bonuses will be received only by X Khabarovsk, IX Tashkent, and VIII Kiev.
  • When a branch is reset, any research performed on it will be reversed, and the ships and modules will be sold for half their cost.
  • Upgrades will be demounted free of charge and transferred to your Inventory, Commanders will be sent to the Reserve without losing their specialization, and all XP earned will be transferred to the first ship of the branch.

After resetting a branch, the Tier VI–X ships of that branch will have special Research Point marks which can be “scored” by gaining a victory in battle, similarly to bonus Stars of Victory. “Scoring” such marks will bring Research Points to players.

Earning Research Points: more details

  • Research Points can be earned once for the first victory on each ship after resetting the branch.
  • Any bonuses for a victory that awards Research Points will be displayed in the Port interface, in the same way as for other similar bonuses such as Stars of Victory.
  • Resetting a branch of ships can bring you up to 10,000 Research Points. The exact number of Research Points earned depends on the ship's tier:
    • 500 for the first victory on a Tier VI ship
    • 500 for the first victory on a Tier VII ship
    • 1,500 for the first victory on a Tier VIII ship
    • 1,500 for the first victory on a Tier IX ship
    • 6,000 for the first victory on a Tier X ship
  • Resetting a branch of aircraft carriers can bring you up to 8,000 Research Points. This is because researching an entire branch of aircraft carriers requires about 20% less XP than other ship branches.
    • 500 for the first victory on a Tier VI aircraft carrier
    • 1,500 for the first victory on a Tier VIII aircraft carrier
    • 6,000 for the first victory on a Tier X aircraft carrier
  • If, for any reason, a branch had gaps with unresearched ships, these ships will not receive a bonus for a victory attained on them. You can research any ships you skipped before resetting the branch in order to earn the maximum number of Research Points.

Research Points for the first victory can't be obtained in Clan or Training Battles.

Seasons
The Research Bureau system will work on a seasonal basis. The first Season will last 3 months.

The effect of seasons on the Research Bureau lies in the fact that the Research Points first victory bonus will be doubled for the ships of the first branch to be reset during a season. The double bonus will remain on those ships beyond the end of the season, until the first victory is gained on them.

Bonuses and Activities
Along with the launch of the Research Bureau, we've prepared a few nice surprises for you.

From the day of the Update’s release until August 30, and then between September 6 and September 13, you'll find the following bonuses and discounts in the game client. These will help you save resources and research branches of ships faster:
  • +100% XP for the first win of the day
  • −50% to the cost of Port slots
  • −50% to the cost of upgrades
  • −25% to the cost of permanent camouflage patterns for Tier VIII–IX ships
Besides this, special combat missions will be available to you in the Challenges tab. To complete these, you'll need to earn XP in Operations, Random, Ranked, and Co-op Battles on Tier VI–IX ships of all types. The combat missions will be available across three Updates—from Update 0.8.7 through Update 0.8.9—and can be completed up to 10 times each.

For completing the missions, players will be rewarded with economic and special signals that will help facilitate research.

World of Warships - WoWs Admiral

The game offers plenty of ships that can be exchanged for Coal, Free XP, or Steel. You can get them absolutely free, simply by playing World of Warships.

The following ships arrive in Update 0.8.7:
  • U.S. destroyer X Somers, exchangeable for Steel in the Armory

  • Soviet cruiser X Smolensk, exchangeable for Coal in the Armory

  • European destroyer IX Friesland, exchangeable for Free XP in the Tech Tree. This ship will be available in the game soon. Stay tuned for more news…
In this article we’ll give you a more detailed account of the newcomers, as well as point out to the quickest way to earn the required resources.

Free XP
Some ships in the Tech Tree are only available in exchange for Free XP. This can also be spent on progressing through researchable branches of ships in the Tech Tree. You can earn Free XP simply by playing the game: an amount that’s equivalent to 5% of the XP you earn in each battle.

How can you earn more Free XP?
  • Mount camouflage patterns that provide a Free XP bonus.
  • Use the following economic and special signals: Papa Papa, Ouroboros, Hydra, and Leviathan.
  • You can get bonus-providing camouflage patterns and signals in the course of progressing through Campaigns, when taking part in Ranked and Clan Battles, and from completing some combat missions, as well as from Daily containers.
  • Join a Clan: the Design Bureau will provide a 25% bonus to the Free XP you earn.
  • Open Daily containers and complete certain combat missions.
Since the amount of Free XP you get depends on the total XP you earn in a battle, it’s a good strategy to increase the amount of Ship XP you receive. Signals and camouflages will come in handy for that, as well as a daily XP bonus for the first win on each ship in the form of Stars of Victory.

IX Friesland: 1,000,000 Free XP
IX Friesland is the lead ship in the second post-war series of destroyers of the Royal Netherlands Navy. In 1956, the ship made a formal visit to Leningrad, and in 1962, she took part in the West New Guinea dispute between the Netherlands and Indonesia. In World of Warships, this destroyer represents Europe and is placed at Tier IX.

In contrast to other destroyers, Friesland doesn’t carry any torpedo armament. However, this is completely compensated for by her rapid-firing artillery, decent AA defenses, and a good choice of consumables that’s envied even by cruisers.

Besides IX Friesland, the following ships can be obtained with Free XP in the Tech Tree: IX Azuma, IX Alaska, and VII Nelson.

Coal
Coal is the most easily accessible resource for the Armory. You can earn it by completing daily combat missions, by opening Daily containers, and by taking part in Ranked Sprints. Coal can also be obtained during temporary game events.

What's the fastest way to accumulate Coal?
  • Fully complete both chains of Daily Missions: the final reward is 400 Coal.
  • Select the More Resources Daily container—it contains the largest amount of Coal.
  • Don't miss Ranked Sprints: the reward for reaching Rank 1 is 10,000 Coal.
  • Join Clans: the fully expanded Coal Port will provide a 10% bonus to the amount of Coal you earn.
  • Use a coupon that provides a 25% discount against the ship's cost.
You can get Coal simply by playing World of Warships. To receive Daily containers and complete combat missions, you just need to earn XP by participating in battles.

By playing several battles per day, you can receive at least 800 Coal for opening one container and completing the first chain of Daily Missions.

If you’re ready to complete both chains of Daily Missions and open all three Daily containers, then you'll earn 2,000 Coal per day on average.

X Smolensk: 244,000 Coal
X Smolensk is a post-war project of a Soviet small light cruiser (MLK-16 × 130). Her main feature is her very powerful main battery for a ship of her displacement, comprising 16 all-new 130 mm dual purpose guns. In World of Warships, this project hits the seas as a Tier X cruiser.

Key features
  • Sixteen main battery guns with comfortable ballistics and a good rate of fire, but rather a short standard range. Smolensk can attack enemy ships with HE and AP shells alike from various combat distances, with her AP shells being quite good for guns of her caliber.
  • Torpedo armament that’s quite good for a Soviet cruiser: one quintuple-tube launcher on either side of the ship. Torpedo range—8 km.
  • A good speed of 35 knots and nice handling make it possible to promptly respond to ever-changing combat situations.
  • The Repair Party and Smoke Generator consumables onboard, as well as concealment that’s quite good for a ship of her type and tier, compensate for the ship's poor armor protection and tiny HP pool.
  • The option to choose between the Defensive AA Fire and Hydroacoustic Search consumables to counter carriers or destroyers, respectively.
Though Smolensk was never completed in reality, she's ready to hit the waves in World of Warships and demonstrate the full power of her rapid-firing artillery.

The following ships can be exchanged for Coal in the Armory: X Yoshino, X Salem, IX Georgia, IX Jean Bart, V Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya, VI Aigle, IV Yūbari, III Campbeltown, and III Charleston.

Steel
In comparison to other resources, Steel is the most difficult one to earn. It’s mostly only available in Ranked and Clan Battles.

How can you earn Steel?
  • Take part in Ranked Battle seasons. You can earn up to a total of 5,500 Steel in the Thirteenth Season of Ranked Battles.
  • Fight in Clan Battles. In Clan Battle Season 6 you can earn up to a total of 8,750 Steel.
  • Join Clans: the Steel Port will provide a 10% bonus to the amount of Steel you earn.
  • Use a coupon that provides a 25% discount against the ship's cost.
Try to participate in the competitive modes—Steel can be obtained even at quite low Ranks and Leagues.

For example, you'll get 1,000 Steel by reaching Rank 12. To get as far as that, you'll need to fight in about 10 battles.

In Clan Battles, you can get 750 Steel as a reward for just 15 victories in the Squall League.

Not interested in "Steel-earner" ships? You can exchange Steel for Coal at a rate of 1:10 in the Armory.

X Somers: 25,000 Steel
X Somers is a U.S. Navy destroyer flotilla leader. She was the lead ship of the Somers-class of destroyer leaders. The ship was used to hunt down German transports, took part in the escort of Atlantic convoys, and provided fire support for landings in the south of France. The destroyer's crew were the last in the US Navy to get a prize for captured material—German dry-cargo freighter Odenwald. In World of Warships, destroyer Somers is placed at Tier X. Her primary advantages come in the form of her three quadruple-tube torpedo launchers, nice concealment, and reasonably good speed.

Key features:
  • As many as eight 127 mm main battery guns.
  • Good torpedo armament: 12 torpedoes; range—16.5 km.
  • The ship's decent speed of 38.6 knots can be increased by using the Engine Boost consumable.
  • Good concealment for her tier: her detectability range by sea can even be reduced to 5.8 km. Apart from that, Somers is equipped with the trademark American Smoke Generator. It takes more than two minutes for her smoke screens to dissipate—this compensates for the ship's pool of HP, which is smaller than that of other Tier X destroyers.
Somers will make a very decent asset for any devotee of American destroyers. She perfectly suits the purpose of performing reconnaissance duties and delivering surprise torpedo attacks.

The following ships can be exchanged for Steel in the Armory: VII Flint, IX Neustrashimy, IX Black, X Stalingrad, and X Bourgogne.

World of Warships - WoWs Admiral

Very soon, the French Tech Tree will be complemented with a new ship type: French Tier II–VIII destroyers are leaving early access in Update 0.8.7 and will become available for all players to research.

In this article we’re going to cover the specific gameplay features of the new ship branch!

Please note that IX Mogador and X Kléber will become available to research in Update 0.8.8.

Ship Branch Peculiarities ● Commander and Upgrades ● Tactics
https://youtu.be/ilhN6DNPtTI

Ship Branch Peculiarities
Fans of active gameplay will certainly enjoy the fast French destroyers.

All French destroyers have an unusual feature of their hulls: after taking several hits, this part of the ship will receive just half the usual damage. The HP pool of the central part of the hull can be depleted to zero HP in the same way the ships’ fore and aft ends can. This improves the survivability of the French Destroyers in lengthy battles.

The ships of the new branch lack the Smoke Generator consumable. However, the French destroyers can boast good speeds and carry an effective Engine Boost consumable that increases their maximum speed by 20%. Starting from Tier VI the French also come equipped with the Main Battery Reload Booster consumable.

Tier II–V
Starting from lower tiers, the French destroyers distinguish themselves by their dimensions. The modest concealment they offer at these tiers is compensated for by a great HP pool. The firing range of the newcomers' main batteries allows them to deliver fire from a distance that’s considered to be quite far for this ship type. High-speed torpedoes and quite good artillery ensure that you have a choice of armament to counter the enemy, depending on your preferences and combat situation. These features are characteristic of the entire new branch.

Tier VI–VII
Starting from VI Guépard, the French destroyers come equipped with the Main Battery Reload Booster consumable. This accelerates the reload speed of the ships’ main guns by a factor of two for a period of 15 seconds. This ability provides one of the key gameplay features of the branch. While they carry quite good torpedoes, Guépard and VII Vauquelin rely on their artillery to a greater extent as the primary method of dealing damage. By combining the Main Battery Reload Booster consumable and Engine Boost, they can achieve superiority over the enemy in fast-paced encounters.

Tier VIII–X
Starting from VIII Le Fantasque, the ships’ speeds significantly increase and the artillery of the new destroyers becomes more dangerous. Their flat-trajectory ballistics, and an armor-penetrating capability that’s high for this ship type, allow the newcomers to penetrate the citadels of enemy cruisers from distances of 6–9 km when firing at the proper angles. Torpedoes at these tiers still have high speeds and a medium firing range. The list of these ships’ advantages also includes the number of torpedoes they carry, which is quite decent for artillery-focused destroyers: 10–12 that are fired from tubes located along the ships’ sides for IX Mogador and X Kléber. The combination of the above characteristics and available consumables allows the French destroyers to confidently enter battle against virtually any adversary.

Commander and Upgrades
When selecting your Commanders’ skills for the French destroyers, pay attention to those skills that improve ship's survivability and firepower. The most useful skills will be Survivability Expert, Concealment Expert, and Basic Firing Training.

Commanders with 10 skill points should master the Priority Target, Last Stand, Survivability Expert, and Concealment Expert skills. A Commander with 19 skill points can complement his set of skills with Superintendent, Basic Firing Training, Adrenaline Rush, and Preventive Maintenance.

The most useful upgrades will be Main Armaments Modification 1; Steering Gears Modification 1; or if you have enough Coal—Engine Boost Modification 1, AA Guns Modification 1, Propulsion Modification 2, Concealment System Modification 1, and Main Battery Modification 3.

If you’re more interested in long-distance battles, you can pay attention to the Advanced Firing Training and Inertia Fuse for HE Shells Commander skills and replace Concealment System Modification 1 with the Steering Gears Modification 3 upgrade.

Concealment

Maneuverability

Tactics
A set of consumables that’s unusual for destroyers prescribes a different approach to battle. The biggest mistake you can make when playing on ships of the new branch is to rush into a Key Area at the very beginning of a battle. The lack of Smoke Generator consumables and the ships’ high detectability range will almost certainly result in attracting the attention and fire of many players on the enemy team. A firing range that’s long for destroyers will allow you to engage the enemy from greater distances, and thanks to her high speed, your destroyer will be a complicated target for your enemies to hit. At the start of battle, a French destroyer is in its element serving as a support ship in a position that’s not too far from allied cruisers, but that also leaves it capable of switching flanks or providing support for allied destroyers in fights for Key Areas.

The middle of the battle often brings the point at which ships from both teams are dispersed throughout the map, and you’re presented with opportunities for more dynamic actions. Assess the combat situation: has one of the enemy cruisers or destroyers separated from the main conflict, and can you take advantage of this? Will it be possible to close in on a vulnerable enemy, attack, and then retreat to safety? The gameplay of the new destroyers depends very much on your answers to the above questions: look for opportunities, and be ready to use them to leverage victory. By activating the Engine Boost consumable, you can attack your enemy from a direction that’s advantageous to you; by activating the Main Battery Reload Booster, you can deal greater damage to the enemy in a shorter period of time. The AP shells of high-tier French destroyers are capable of penetrating even the armor belts of cruisers—their natural enemy—at medium ranges. This ability will allow you to destroy any cruiser that’s careless enough to expose their broadside while the consumable is active, and reasonably good HE shells with decent ballistics will effectively deal with same-type adversaries. If you encounter a battleship, your high-speed torpedoes will become an unpleasant surprise for them, as they are very difficult to evade. Always remember to keep track of the action time of your consumables—be sure to disengage your enemy before Engine Boost deactivates.

At the end of the battle, a French destroyer can exhaust the enemy while retreating, and swiftly approach any vulnerable and damaged ships—finishing them with accurate artillery salvoes or deadly torpedoes.

Aircraft represent a significant danger for ships from the new branch. However, the absence of Smoke Generator—a traditional method of defense for this ship type against aviation—doesn’t leave the newcomers helpless against threats from the air. In the case of such a threat, their decent firing range allows the French destroyers to stay closer to the effective AA defenses of allied cruisers. The destroyers’ high-speed capabilities also significantly complicate the attacks of enemy aircraft.

The new destroyers will certainly be to the liking of fans of high speeds and explosive battles. Strike where your enemy least expects it, and win!

Philippe Auboyneau
The ultimate reward of the event is a new unique Commander, Philippe Auboyneau, who features the following talents:
  • Sparks of Resistance: upon earning a "Captured" and "Assisted in Capture" ribbon, you get +1% to the probability of setting an enemy ship on fire with main battery shells.
  • Fully Armed: a talent that’s activated when the "Devastating Strike" achievement is awarded, and reduces the reload time of the ship’s armament by 5%.
  • Speed and Composure: every 2,000,000 HP of potential damage increases your ship's maximum speed by 8%.

All of these talents can be activated multiple times per battle.
Besides those features, the new Commander has an enhanced "Survivability Expert" skill that increases the ship's HP pool by 400 points and aircraft HP by 30 points for each ship tier.

The new Commander's talents and conditions for activating them are the development of the new unique Commanders concept, which was launched with the arrival of Admiral Kuznetsov in the game. The conditions for activating Philippe Auboyneau's talents are quite simple, but at the same time the talents themselves provide fewer bonuses than those of such unique Commanders as Halsey and Yamamoto.

Special personalizations make a nice addition to the Commander’s skills and talents. Any ship helmed by Commander Philippe Auboyneau will fly a unique broad pennant, and the main battery shell tracers will be blue. When a talent is activated, a signal flare will be fired over the ship. If you want, you can disable these personalizations. When enabled, they will be visible to all players in battle.

Philippe Auboyneau will be added with a specialization for I Bougainville and 10 skill points.

Containers
Daily Shipments, daily combat missions, and Directives of the event will bring you standard containers.

A Legion of Honor container provides:
  • One of the following: a special signal or an expendable French Riviera camouflage.
  • One of the following: a special signal or 600 Coal.
  • An item of the Legion of Honor collection.
  • A chance to get a special combat mission for one of the following French Premium ships: VI De Grasse, VI Aigle, VIII Gascogne, or VIII Le Terrible.

You can easily replenish your supplies of Tokens and complete the Legion of Honor collection faster, as well as increase the chances of getting a combat mission for the French Premium ships, with the help of special Premium containers which are available for doubloons in the Armory or the Premium Shop.

Each Legion of Honor Premium container provides:
  • 120 French Tokens.
  • One of the following: 15x special signal flags or 15x French Riviera expendable camouflage patterns.
  • An item of the Legion of Honor collection.
  • A chance to get a special combat mission for one of the following French Premium ships: VI De Grasse, VI Aigle, VIII Gascogne, or VIII Le Terrible.

Combat missions
  • The mission for any particular ship can be received only once.
  • The chances of getting a combat mission from a Legion of Honor Premium container are higher than for a standard container.
  • To complete the mission, you must earn 5,000 base XP with a Tier V–X ship in Operations, Random, Ranked, or Co-op Battles.
  • Combat missions can be completed until October 31.
  • All ships come with a Port slot and Commander with 3 skill points.
  • If you receive a mission for a ship that you already have in your Port, you'll get a Commander, Port slot, and compensation for the ship in credits for completing the mission.

New Collection
The Legion of Honor collection is dedicated to the history of the French Navy. It consists of 4 sections, each comprising 4 items. The collection sections unveil the history of the order of the Legion of Honor, French destroyers, and French military awards.

Completing each section will provide you with the opportunity to mount a second flag and apply a second camouflage color scheme for French cruisers and battleships. The reward for completing the entire collection is an achievement and the ability to mount a second flag and apply a second camouflage color scheme for French destroyers.

Items of the collection drop from Legion of Honor containers, as well as daily containers—provided that you've activated the subscription.

Daily Shipments

If you regularly log in to the game during the period from August 23 through September 6, you will obtain valuable rewards in the Daily Shipments section.

There is a total of 10 rewards, while the shipments are available for 14 days. After entering the game for the first time, you'll have 14 days to obtain up to 10 rewards—with one dropped each day. Thus, you can skip four days out of two weeks and still claim all the valuable rewards.

Rewards
  • 6x expendable French Riviera camouflage patterns
  • 150,000 credits
  • 50 doubloons
  • 2 days of Warships Premium Account
  • 3x Legion of Honor containers
See you on the battlefield, Captains!

World of Warships - WoWs Admiral

We are happy to finally give you an answer to the most popular question in the history of the game: yes, they are coming.

Submarines played an important role in the naval operations of the first half of the 20th century. Their missions and aims were very different from other types of ships in these conflicts. Thus, the harmonious integration of this new ship type into our battle modes isn't going to be an easy task.

Having tested many prototypes during internal tests, we’re pleased to inform you that our team has been fully engaged in the development and preparation for the launch of submarines into PvP gameplay. To do this, we've got several issues to resolve: we have to find the niche that they should occupy, make the gameplay exciting and diverse, work out different options for the interaction of submarines with other ship types and between each other, update our maps, and take many other details into consideration. However, you can already be sure that the underwater hunters will eventually become available in World of Warships.
https://youtu.be/SJIXOd1NqQs

Testing plans
The first step will come in the form of Closed Tests of the game process in order to evaluate the current concept and ensure the stability of test clients.

Then, Open Testing will take place. During this stage, you’ll be able to share your opinions with us and be among the first players to try out the new ship type in World of Warships. We’re planning several testing iterations during the second stage. It will be something like a Beta Test for the new type. Initially, only some of the players who submit their applications will be able to participate in the testing. Access will gradually be expanded and in time, everyone will be able to take part in the submarine trials.

After this comes the third stage. We’ll add submarines into the live client as a separate battle type, similar to Arms Race, Savage Battle, or Space Battle. The third stage will last several months. This will enable us to make the final touches and adjust the balance of the new type on the live server. When we're done with all these steps, we'll be able to decide on the final fate of submarines.

Firstcomers
The submarine tree will be built the same way as the aircraft carrier tree: with submarines at even tiers only. The first researchable submarine will appear at Tier VI. This is in part because spreading ships between tiers allows us to balance them more easily within their respective match-making brackets, and in part to have a better differentiation between the initially implemented designs.

Germany, the Soviet Union, and the United States will be the first nations to enter testing. Japan will be next in line for introduction into the game.

Main features of submarines
Submarines are stealthy hunters, somewhat similar to destroyers. But what will the features of this new type be?

Diving and surfacing
Submarines will have the best stealth parameters, low survivability, and unique controls with unusual new mechanics. Besides the regular horizontal movement, players will also be able to control the depth of their dive.

Changing the depth of a dive allows submarines to hide from enemies and become invulnerable to most sources of damage. However, submarines have a limited supply of oxygen in battle. Once they’ve depleted this supply, they must resurface to replenish it.

There will be three levels of depth:
  • Surface—at this level, a submarine can be detected by line of sight, Hydroacoustic Search, and radar, like any other ship in the game. Torpedoes can be launched. Oxygen supplies are replenished when on the surface. Capturing Key Areas is only possible when surfaced.
  • Periscope—the submarine's detectability is significantly reduced (by 50%). At this level, she can be detected by Hydroacoustic Search or in the usual way from a ship or aircraft. Subs can’t be detected by radar at this level. Torpedoes can be launched, and the use of sonar is possible. Oxygen is spent when at this level.
  • Underwater—ships cannot detect a submarine in standard ways (including through the use of any consumable). However, in this position, a submarine can be detected by another submarine in periscope depth and underwater position at a distance of 2 kilometers or closer. She also has no chances of launching torpedoes or spotting anyone except from a distance of two kilometers or less. Oxygen is spent and the Hydrophone is turned on.

Hydrophone
When underwater, a submarine becomes “blind” and sees other ships only with the help of her Hydrophone, which determines the direction to the nearest ships. The hydrophone displays three ranges: long, medium, and short. Indicators will light up on this interface to allow you to understand how far away the enemy ship is.

Together with the Hydrophone, we've added a visual effect that displays sonar waves emitted by the ship, outlining and highlighting the underwater terrain around the submarine. This is not only beautiful and fascinating, but also enables players to better navigate underwater. In consideration of the abilities of the new ship type, you can expect the game maps to be updated.

Armament
The main armament carried by submarines is torpedoes with hydroacoustic guidance. While at periscope depth, a submarine can emit a sonar ping after firing a torpedo. You’ll see a special new indicator next to your torpedo icon when sonar is active. The emission mechanics work in the same way as with a usual torpedo launch—lead your target and click the left mouse button. If the ping hits a designated point on the bow or stern of the target ship, the torpedo will be guided to the target. However, the maneuvering characteristics of a torpedo won't always be enough to accurately hit the target. After the target is pinged—hit by a sonar ping—for a second time, the torpedo will dive deeper. This will allow it to detonate underneath the ship's hull, ignore anti-torpedo protection, and deal much greater damage. The primary targets for torpedoes are slow-moving ships. Faster and more agile ships, with the proper skills applied, will be able to escape attack by executing timely maneuvers.

However, you have to be extremely careful when using the sonar—after every emitted ping enemy ships will be able to determine your submarine's last location, and it will be displayed on their Minimaps.

Besides this, submarines will also have new unique consumables and abilities that emphasize their unusual features and specific gameplay style.

However, AA defense mounts and secondary armament will be disabled on submarines in their initial implementation, since their caliber and relative power level would be extremely low in comparison to all other ship types.

Consumables
The new type will be equipped with unique consumables:
  • Maximum Depth: allows you to dive deeper than the standard “Underwater” level and avoid taking damage from depth charges.
  • Snorkel: increases the time to conduct an attack. When activated, the submarine stops spending oxygen and starts accumulating it instead when at periscope level.
  • O2 Regeneration: increases the time a submarine can spend underwater.
  • Enhanced Active Sonar: increases the effectiveness of sonar pings.

Countermeasures
Submarines are relatively slow. Their speed on the surface is a mere 25–30 knots; at periscope depth their speed is reduced further. When underwater, submarines will be able to cruise at the same speed as when at surface level.

If a submarine is detected on the surface or at periscope level, she can be attacked with HE shells, rockets, or bombs. Such armaments will be able to affect targets within a certain radius of impact (splash damage).

A submarine can damage another submarine with torpedoes or by ramming them. Effective use of sonar pings can also allow torpedoes to dive to a certain depth and hit enemy submarines.

What should you do if a submarine has dived? In such case, she can't attack anyone, but other types of ships won't be able to attack her either. That's where destroyers—the main opponents of submarines—come in. They'll be able to effectively track submarines and hit them with depth charges. Nearly all destroyers will be equipped with this weaponry, with rare exceptions for which the use of such arms wasn't historically implemented into the design of the ship.

If an enemy submarine is detected within a radius of 4–5 km of a destroyer, a special indicator will inform the ship’s Commander about this. When approaching an enemy submarine, a destroyer can see her estimated last known location. Having arrived at this area, an updated location will be displayed. This will happen several times, though the submarine itself will still remain invisible to her enemies. Eventually, having followed these location indicators and caught up to the submarine, the destroyer will be able to carry out an attack with depth charges. To launch them you just need to float over the detected submarine—the charges will launch automatically.

Stand by for more info!
Submarine gameplay is, first and foremost, about positioning, planning, waiting for the best moment to attack, and subsequently diving into the depths of the sea to escape retribution. The new ship type will be significantly different from the other existing ship types in the game. We hope it will bring a fresh blast of excitement to naval battles in World of Warships.

Naturally, along with the appearance of this new ship type, the skill tree and upgrades will also be updated. At the moment it's still too early to talk about any specifics, but we'll definitely share the details of any changes later.

We’re confident that submarines will make an excellent addition to the game. To ensure the best integration possible, we’ll need your help and support, as well as thorough and thoughtful testing to make it happen in an optimal way. See you in battle—raise periscope!

New features are arriving in the game, including Directives, a unique Commander, and a collection, as well as AA defense improvements, an updated matchmaker and a new system for the battle chat!

The French Arc ● Ranked Sprint ● Battle UI and Chat ● Game Mechanics Improvements ● Matchmaker Changes ● Research Bureau

The French Arc

Update 0.8.7 launches the second Stage of the "French Destroyers" event, consisting of four Directives. The main rewards for completing its combat missions and Directives will be "Legion of Honor" containers and the new temporary resource—French Tokens. Exchange French Tokens for expendable camouflage patterns, Premium Account time, signal flags, and doubloons in the Armory.

The "Legion of Honor" containers will bring you items of the new collection dedicated to the French Navy. Upon completing the entire collection, you'll be able to mount a second flag and apply an alternative color scheme on your French ships.

Philippe Auboyneau will join the ranks of other unique Commanders along with Nikolay Kuznetsov, William Halsey, and Isoroku Yamamoto. Philippe's talents will come in handy in aiding your ship deliver victory to your team.
  • Sparks of Resistance—when you earn a ribbon for capturing or assisting in the capture of a Key Area, the chances of your main battery shells setting enemies on fire increase by 1%.
  • Fully Armed—activates when you earn the "Devastating Strike" achievement, and reduces the reload time of the ship's armament by 5%.
  • Speed and Composure—increases the ship's maximum speed by 8% for each 2,000,000 HP of potential damage taken.
All of these talents can be activated multiple times per battle.
Besides those features, the new Commander has an enhanced "Survivability Expert" skill that increases the ship's HP pool by 400 HP for each tier, and the aircraft's HP—by 30 HP for each tier.

Ranked Sprint

Get ready for the new Season of Ranked Sprint that will be played in a 7 vs. 7 format on Tier VI ships, with the number of aircraft carriers limited to one per team. The Seventh Season of Ranked Sprint will be played in Domination mode.

Just like in the previous seasons, there are 10 Ranks, but this time, they will all be united in a single league. Prepare your ships and fight alongside your friends in Divisions!

Battle UI and Chat

Players will be introduced to an updated battle chat system. The reworked system has simpler settings options and reduces the scope of undesirable information incoming from other players.

We have improved the arrangement of the battle UI elements and added new functions. Players will be able to block tactical commands and text messages from specific players, as well as enable or disable battle chat via the Game Settings menu.

Additionally, a system limiting the number of uses for the "Attention to Square" command within a short period of time will be added into the game.

Game Mechanics Improvements
The mechanics and visualization of the priority AA sector system will be updated. These mechanics will become easier, clearer, and more effective to use.

It will now be very simple to activate AA sector reinforcement: you now only need to point the battle camera in the desired direction and press the ~ or О keys.

Reinforcing the priority AA sector occurs in four phases:
  1. Upon activating the priority AA sector, the AA defenses will cause instantaneous damage to enemy squadrons, expressed as a percentage of their current HP, and try to shoot down as many aircraft as possible.
  2. A phase in which the ship's continuous AA damage within the selected sector gradually increases, during which the efficiency of the opposite sector's AA fire reduces.
  3. Having reached maximum efficiency, the reinforced AA sector deals damage to its full extent for a limited period of time.
  4. AA sector reinforcement is deactivated. To use AA sector reinforcement once again, you have to wait until the end of the cooldown period, during which the efficiency of the ship’s AA defenses returns to standard values.

In Update 0.8.7 the sector reinforcement parameters and its duration and cooldown time will depend on the ship’s type. AA sector reinforcement affects only the continuous damage by AA defenses, and has no impact on the damage caused within AA explosions.

Together with the priority AA sector, we have also reworked the "Manual Fire Control for AA Armament" Commander skill. Now, this skill will increase the instantaneous damage while completely neutralizing both the adverse and positive effects of AA sector reinforcement on continuous damage. At the same time, the cooldown period before the next possible activation of the priority AA sector will become longer than without this skill. This change will allow ships with weak AA defenses to defend themselves against enemy aviation, and even cause significant instantaneous damage when their Commanders have the "Manual Fire Control for AA Armament" skill researched.

The update of the priority AA sector is not the only change affecting aircraft carriers in the upcoming update. The functioning of the AA zones will be changed and the AA defense plus aircraft parameters will be balanced.

These complex changes are aimed at:
  • Improving the AA defense balance, considering the changes in previous versions;
  • Making the confrontation of ships with a gap of one and two tiers more convenient and make non-top players life easier (both when playing against aircraft carriers and for them).

In the version 0.8.0, the AA Defense was divided into three non-crossing zones (short-range, mid-range and long-range) to emphasize unique features of each ship's AA Defense. However, its side effects have sometimes led to irrational situations.

In Update 0.8.7 we have changed the AA zones in a way that they now overlap and supplement each other: short-range air defense zone now can't be less than 1,5 km, while a mid-range zone and long-range zone will start at a distance of 100m from the ship and end at the same distance from the ship as before, but can't be smaller than 2,5 rm and 4 km accordingly. This way we will eliminate the flaws of old mechanics. To compensate for the increased constant AA damage from the crossing of AA zones, the damage to each zone will be reduced.

Together with the AA zones, the spawning radius of explosions will be changed. Now they will begin to appear on the border of the long-range zone and end at 3.5 km from the ship. This will allow the aircraft carrier commander to focus on dodging explosions while approaching the enemy and after reaching 3,5 km mark - to aim correctly and choose correct lead for a successful attack.

Updated the progression of planes and AA characteristics as the tier of ships increases. Now the number of aircraft Hit Points and AA damage of ships tier IV-X will change more smoothly from tier to tier. Thus, playing for aviation and against it will not so much depend on the gap in the tier of ships. As well as this change will decrease the gap in effectiveness between ships with weak and powerful AA Defense.

Along with the change in the progression of air defense and overlapping zones, we have also changed the parameters of consumable "Defensive AA Fire" for all classes. From now on the continuous damage bonus is equal 50% instead of 100% and 200%, but the damage in explosions is now increased from 100% and 200% to 300%. For the cruiser Stalingrad, the bonus to continuous damage will be 25%, because the duration of the consumable is 60 seconds, instead of the standard 40 seconds. The continuous damage bonus is now decreased due to the new air defense mechanics and due to the summing of one ship's damage zones - considering old values this gain would be extremely effective and leave no chance for the squadron to break through to the target or escape from AA zones. The values of consumable for destroyers is now equated to other classes because after progression changings, the characteristics of AA in ships with a weak configuration was strengthened and the effectiveness of destroyers with good air defense under "Defensive AA Fire" exceeded the power of cruisers and battleships. For example, the AA effectiveness of Grozovoi with activated consumable exceeded the effectiveness of the air defense of the battleship Kremlin. Instead of a reduced bonus to continuous damage, the damage caused by explosions will be increased. Now when the aircraft enters explosions during the action of " Defensive AA Fire " it is almost guaranteed to be destroyed. Please recall, that explosions with activated consumable are highlighted in red.

To balance the overall damage obtained by aircraft considering all AA Defense buffs, we have decreased the height for attacking squadrons. This way, more aircraft will be able to get back to the aircraft carrier, while this parameter will remain the same for F button to avoid spamming. In addition to that, Sight stabilization skill has been enhanced to achieve even faster aiming.

In relation to the changes made to the priority sector mechanics and "Massive AA Fire" skill, all players will be able to reset their Commanders' skills for free during the week following the Update's release.

The discount can be obtained until August 29. Find the orange "Reset skills" button in the article linked below to activate it.
Reset skills

We have also enhanced the autopilot. Now, it will take into account the ship's speed, maneuverability and dimensions while setting the route, as well as autonomously change the ship's speed. This enhancement reduces the risk of colliding with islands, but even in the case of such a collision, the updated autopilot will make the required maneuvers by itself and return the ship to its original course. The ship's movement trajectory is now displayed as a route line on the Tactical Map and the Minimap.

Matchmaker Changes

The World of Warships matchmaker is constantly evolving. In Update 0.8.7 we are introducing strict limitations on the tiers of battles that you can be sent to. For each player, the matchmaker will take into account the number of battles they have played with ships of the same tier as theirs, and the number of ships one or two tiers higher.

After a short calibration period that will last up to 20 battles for each battle type and ship tier, the matchmaker will ensure that the percentage of battles with ships of the specified tier does not exceed the set limits. For example, for Tier VIII ships, the limits are expected to be 40% of battles with ships two tiers higher. This means that out of 20 recent battles you play with Tier VIII ships, a maximum of eight battles will include Tier X ships.

Research Bureau

The underlying principle of player progress within our game involves moving from lower tier to higher tier ships all the way up to the branch peak—Tier X ships. However, the game has an enormous number of ships of different tiers, and each tier offers gameplay experiences that are equally interesting as those of Tier X ships. Many players like fighting on these ships, but the game hasn’t encouraged such behavior enough to date.

In this connection, Update 0.8.7 will introduce a new tab—Research Bureau, and a new resource—Research Points.

The goal of the Research Bureau is to further motivate the players to play more with their favorite ships and earn unique rewards along the way.

Research Points can be obtained as follows:
  • Players who have at least five Tier X ships researched can sell all the ships from the researched branch and reset its research status.
  • After researching them again and purchasing the ships of the reset branch, as well as winning a battle with such ships, players will earn Research Points.

The new resource will occupy a place between the widely accessible Coal, and far more scarce Steel that is only available in competitive modes. At first, you will be able to exchange Research Points for new ships, as well as various in-game items.

Please note that the Research Bureau will become available for players in the Armory only after they earn their first Research Points.

Learn more about these new features and balance changes on our official website or in the in-game browser!
