We’ve officially been nominated for the 2023 Steam Awards in the ‘Labor of Love’ category.
We’d like to say a big huge thank you to everyone who nominated us. But whether you nominated or not, we’d just like to say thanks for playing Deep Rock Galactic, and for making it such a fun and welcoming experience to share together. Nobody here at Ghost Ship Games ever imagined our silly space dwarf game would grow to where it is today.
It’s your enthusiasm and support that pushes us to keep working on Deep Rock Galactic; both by developing this game and expanding the DRG universe with other projects. We’ve still got a big huge pile of ideas for this game, so you can trust we'll updating it for a long time to come.
A special hat celebration
To celebrate our nomination, we've decided to give everyone a fancy hat! We'll release it early next year (more on that below)
Some years back, we released an exclusive hat during the Steam Awards, a cool viking helmet called the Bolted Marauder. People often ask whether we'd ever bring it back, and we've always said no.
But we never said we wouldn't release an even cooler version of it.
So, to celebrated DRG being nominated for the 2023 Steam Awards, we present to you: the Jagged Bugbasher.
You don’t need to vote for us to get this hat. In fact, we'll release it once voting is over, early next year. Why not release it now, you ask? We tried, we really did, but our build machines caught the Holiday flu, so we decided to let them rest up. Once we're all back and rested, we'll release the hat and celebrate the nomination (and hopefully, the Award).
On that note, if you do vote for us, we’ll be super happy. We’ll smile so big it wraps around our entire head. We’ll get up and do a little dance. We’ll hoot and holler “hoowee!” and high-five. Stuff like that.
Hope everybody’s enjoying the Yuletide 2023 event! Here at Ghost Ship Games we’ll be taking a break for the holidays, but we’ll be back in January. We’ve got loads more to share in 2024 and beyond. :)
Happy voting, and Rock and Stone! With Love, -The Ghost Ship Crew
Note: The Jagged Bugbasher will be released on all platforms, not just Steam. We'll get back to all of you with precise timing early next year.
Edit: A previous version of this post went live, saying the hat was out the same time as voting begun. That was a mistake, for some reason the update to this post were not published. We have updated it now, detailing that the hat will be released after New Year.
This hotfix rolls the current version back to Patch: S04.11 - See patch notes here. We haven't been able to fix the crash we’ve been hunting for the last couple of days, so we decided to roll back to the last stable version. Once we're back from the Holidays early next year, we'll fix this pesky crash.FINAL! In the meantime, enjoy the Yuletide event! See you all in 2024, Miners.
Ok, so third time wasn’t a charm - but we really really reaaalllly hope the fourth will be! Thank you for your patience with our fix attempts - Y’all are pretty cool - hope you have an awesome holiday season! Here’s to you and Hotfix.DRG_patch.Final23.Final23forRealz.Plzwork.kfdjfsfd.Prettyplzwithredsugarontop
And just like with yesterday's ~fixes~ we really recommend you "Verify integrity of game files" with this update.
You verify game files by right-clicking DRG in your Steam Library > Click "Properties..." > Click "Installed Files" > Click the button that says "Verify integrity of game files"
Third time’s a charm. That is what they say, right? Right? Hotfix.DRG_patch.Final23.Final23forRealz.Plzwork.
We recommend you "Verify integrity of game files" after it updates. Files can be sensitive to lots of updates, so better to be safe.
You verify game files by right clicking DRG in your Steam Library > Click "Properties..." > Click "Installed Files" > Click the button that says "Verify integrity of game files"
Yesterday's Hotfix didn’t fix. So we’re trying again with another Hotfix.DRG_patch.Final23.Final23forRealz. Fingers crossed, this will actually fix the crash (and we won’t have to spend the holidays at the office).
We did it! The last patch of 2023! Yay us - and yay you! Thanks for being awesome all year! See you in the next one.
With Love, The Ghost Ship Crew
--- PATCH NOTES --- - Fixed that mission control was talking about summer when finishing ‘The fashion of yuletide past’ assignment. - Added an extra present, but don’t open it yet. - Fixed an issue that caused networking not network in some rare cases.
‘Twas the night before Yuletide, and on the Rig on that eve, Not a creature was stirring, not even a Steeve.
The Oily Oafs were poured at the bar with care, In hopes that Karl soon would be there.
The dwarves were nestled all snug in their beds; While visions of Bittergems danced in their heads.
I put down my headset, reclined at my desk, Grateful – at last! – for a moment of rest.
When out near the Drop Pod arose such a clatter, I switched on the cameras, to see what was the matter.
What I saw made my warmhearted mood disappear: The dwarves were awake, and they’d drunk all the beers.
Those inebriate miners were wild and at play, They cheered and kicked foreign objects in the launch bay.
The jukebox blared while they smashed decorations, The whole place topsy-turvy from gravity recalibration.
My heart sank as they ran in the Memorial Hall, Guzzling Underhill Deluxe, trying to clip through the walls.
I sighed, donned my headset, and unscrewed my flask. Managing these dwarves is an unenviable task.
Hello Miners,
Yuletide 2023 is now live! The festivities run until Thursday, January 4th at 13:00 CET.
There are seasonal cosmetics to be won, elves to be shot, and snowballs to be left alone and not thrown at other dwarves under any circumstances. Check out the preview post or boot up the game for the full overview of what's inside.
Have fun out there, and happy Yuletide! And no running in the Memorial Hall.
With Love, The Ghost Ship Crew

Management would like to clarify that the use of the word “holiday” here does not imply any paid time off. Instead, this holiday season, Deep Rock Galactic will be celebrating with some holly-jolly hard labor!
This time of year is about cherishing those you hold dear, and there’s nothing dearer to the Deep Rock Galactic corporation than the quarterly revenue report. If you feel that close colleagues, family members, or a general sense of holiday merriment are distracting you from sharing this priority, please report to the Medical Bay for a painless chemical readjustment.
The Yuletide 2023 event begins on Thursday, December 14th at 13:00 CET.
Here’s your first look at what’s coming:
Yearly performance bonus
In recognition of the significant contributions of the DRG workforce, Management has approved a significant end-of-year bonus for all employees! Provided you’re willing to work for it, of course.
Complete the Yearly Performance Bonus assignment, and we’ll transfer extra Performance Points, crafting resources, credits, and infused Matrix Cores to your account. But even better than that, we’ll grant you the shiny new Snowglobe hat!
It is the employee’s individual responsibility to figure out how you’re supposed to breathe while wearing the Snowglobe hat.
Wanted dead: Yuletide Elves
Bad news: The nitwits at Longbeard Freight have fumbled a live load of Yuletide Elves, and these festive little imps have taken up residence in the caves of Hoxxes. These pointy-eared rascals pose a threat to DRG’s mining operations, so you’re cleared to dispatch them with extreme prejudice.
Shoot the Elves on sight, bring back the bodies as proof, and Management will grant you (and your team) a Double Mission Performance Point Bonus as a reward for your troubles.
The hats of Christmas past
We found a big stash of old holiday hats in an orbital storage facility! And instead of shoveling them into the incinerator, we’ve decided to hand them out to DRG employees. This extraordinary act of seasonal generosity means no pay raises next year, but we’re confident everyone will be satisfied with this agreement.
Complete the Fashion of Yuletide Past assignment, and you’ll earn all the headgear from previous Yuletide events, in case you didn’t scoop them up before.
Extra seasonal stocking stuffers
We’ve got a few more Yuletide goodies to give out, too! Finish the Yuletide Elf Hunt assignment, and you’ll unlock the following:
Pickaxe set: ‘Chillaxe’
Bosco framework: ‘Yuletide Special’
Elf suit armor + headwear*
*Management bears no liability for friendly fire incidents caused by this elf costume. The elf suit is not bulletproof.
Work-appropriate space rig decorations
The halls? We’ve decked them. Once the Yuletide event starts, you’ll find the Space Rig looking properly festive. Expect holiday lights, mistletoe, and lots of other cute decorations, like priceless glass ornaments! The ornaments belonged to Mission Control’s dear grandmother, and they’re very fragile, so please don’t break them.
Also, a coolant leak in the ventilation system has resulted in piles of snow forming around the Rig. We trust all employees will act responsibly with these snowdrifts, and not resort to juvenile distractions like last year’s snowball fights.
Yuletide 2023 begins on Thursday, December 14th at 13:00 CET and it’ll run until Thursday, January 4th at 13:00 CET.
Stay warm out there, and happy Yuletide. Rock and Stone!
For those of you new to the Steam Awards, it’s basically like the Oscars, but 10 million times more important. Most of the award categories are focused on games that came out this year, but there’s one category where you can nominate Deep Rock Galactic: the “Labor of Love” category.
Here’s how Steam describes the award:
“This game has been out for a while. The team is well past the debut of their creative baby, but being the good parents they are, these devs continue to nurture and support their creation. This game, to this day, is still getting new content after all these years.”
We’d love to be nominated! Steam says we get a shiny trophy if we win, and we think that’d be neat.
It’s now been three and a half years since Deep Rock Galactic launched as Version 1.0. As we said back then, the game was complete, but we weren’t done with it. Everything we’ve added since then, from the tiniest tweaks to full seasons, have been motivated by all the love we’ve gotten from the community.
After all, it’s not just us making Deep Rock Galactic. You’re part of it, too! We're only part of the picture. It’s also the content creators, the meme-makers, the testers and translators, the comic con cosplayers, the bug-hunters, bug-shooters, forum moderators, greenbeards, greybeards, and every other beautiful dwarf who shapes this community, and breathes life and love into the game.
After all, what does Rock and Stone mean if there’s nobody to say it back?
With the November Maintenance Update hot off the press, and new full seasons and events coming later down the line, we can say from our end that we’re nowhere near done updating Deep Rock Galactic.
If you feel like it, we’d be honored to get your nomination for the “Labor of Love” category in this year’s Steam Awards. :)
That’s all! Rock and Stone early, Rock and Stone often.
