Winter War
The Winter War expansion has arrived in KARDS!
Finland takes center stage in the Winter War expansion, and joins the battlefield as a new ally nation. Explore tenacious Finnish units, unique Finnish tactics, and use everything in your arsenal to gain the upper hand against formidable foes.
Arriving with the expansion are 86 new cards, including 20 cards for the new Finnish ally nation, 12 new cards for each of the main nations, and 2 cards for each of the existing ally nations in KARDS. We also welcome two new keywords: Suppress and Salvage.
Salvage: When a card with salvage destroys a unit on your turn, add a 1/1 copy to your hand with a maximum cost of 3.
Suppress: Suppressed units lose all their keywords and abilities and have their attack and defense reset. Units lose their Suppressed status if they return to hand.
The new crate can be opened every week and offers tiered rewards. Level up your crate by playing the game and earn bigger and more exciting rewards at higher crate tiers!
Progress towards the next crate tier by:
Gaining a national level
Opening card packs
Recycling cards you own that are in the Reserve pool
Gaining surplus cards (duplicates)
The new crate has five tiers, granting the following rewards:
Tier 1: 1 standard wildcard and 30 gold
Tier 2: 2 standard wildcards, 2 random standard gold cards, and 80 gold
Tier 3: 1 limited wildcard, 2 standard wildcards, 2 random limited gold cards, and 150 gold
Tier 4: 1 special wildcard, 1 limited wildcard, 1 random special gold card, 2 random limited gold cards, and 250 gold
Tier 5: 1 elite wildcard, 1 special wildcard, 1 limited wildcard, 2 random special gold cards, and 350 gold
As we transition to the new crate system, we bid farewell to the old crate system and resolve all existing crate progress. Any crates, full or partial, will be opened for you and the contents automatically added to your account. Any full crates will be completely resolved, and incomplete crates will be resolved based on a point system, giving players a portion of crate rewards based on how high the crate completion percentage is.
The Battle Pass has arrived in KARDS and it’s packed with value!
The battle pass is a monthly pass that lasts from the first day of a month to the last day of that month. The battle pass comes with a range of perks that enhance your KARDS experience, from faster progression to a range of exclusive cosmetic items.

We’re thrilled to bring KARDS to more players in different languages. The latest language we are introducing to KARDS is Japanese!
Change your language from the Options menu in-game to enjoy KARDS in Japanese. Note that Japanese localization is still in Beta and will continue to be improved in the coming months.
Low-end Renderer Mode
KARDS now has a brand new low-end renderer mode. The low-end renderer provides a significant boost to performance on lower-end machines, in particular those with integrated Intel GPUs.
On Steam, if you have an Intel GPU known to have issues with KARDS, your game will automatically launch using the low-end renderer. To manually opt into or out of the low-end renderer option, navigate to KARDS in your Steam library, right-click the item and select Properties. Under General, observe the "Launch Options" section and use the drop-down menu to select either "Play KARDS - The WWII Card Game" to play without the low-end renderer, or "Play using low-end renderer" to play using the low-end renderer.
Starter Campaign UI Overhaul
Starter campaigns for both Germany and the USA have received an overhaul, with various tweaks and polishes to improve the experience for new users both on PC and mobile devices. These tweaks are mainly to the UI in the starter campaigns, with adjustments to text windows, help arrows, and some music tweaks.

Winter War, the sixth major expansion for KARDS, is now live!
Winter is Here
The Winter War expansion brings 86 new cards, 2 new keywords, and a brand new ally nation: Finland!
In addition to 20 new cards for our newest ally nation, Finland, we also welcome 12 new cards for each of the main nations and 2 new cards for each of the existing ally nations.
The two new keywords, Salvage and Suppress, bring a new layer of depth to battlefield tactics. Use your opponent's strength against them with the Salvage mechanic, and neutralize threats on the board by Suppressing them.
Salvage: When a card with salvage destroys a unit on your turn, add a 1/1 copy to your hand with a maximum cost of 3.
Suppress: Suppressed units lose all their keywords and abilities and have their attack and defense reset. Units lose their Suppressed status if they return to hand.
Dive into the Winter War with a range of new tactics and strategies. Check out our Winter War Summary Reveal Page for a full list of all the cards introduced in the Winter War expansion, or head straight into your collection in-game, filter by the new Winter War set, and make sure you’ve ticked the “Show Unowned” box for a detailed look at all the new cards introduced in this set!
Alongside the Winter War expansion, 102 cards in the active card pool also move into the Reserve pool, and 20 of the cards in the Reserve pool return to active duty.
A summary of what the Reserve pool entails:
Regular rotation. The Reserve pool is a standard rotation of cards that occurs alongside every major expansion, every 6 months or so.
New cards are safe. New cards are safe from the Reserve pool for at least 1.5 years after release, and the rotated cards are hand-picked each time.
Keep using reserved cards. Reserved cards stay in your collection and you can use them in AI training matches, challenge matches with friends, and the Classic PvP game mode.
Stop dropping in packs. Cards in the Reserve pool stop dropping in Core packs 4 weeks before they move into the Reserve pool.
Create reserved cards. You can still create Reserved cards with wildcards, but will receive a warning prompt as you do so.
Filter reserved cards in your Collection. Reserved cards are only visible in your collection by ticking the Reserved Cards box at the bottom of your Filters menu in your Collection.
Recycle reserved cards. Recycle cards you own that are in the Reserve pool to add to the progress of your new crate.
The Reserve pool of cards allows us to provide a fresh game experience while maintaining a balanced and dynamic experience for all our players. We also avoid issues such as power creep and inaccessibility for newer players, which can develop into significant problems without a card rotation.

We’re thrilled to share with you details about the new and improved crate mechanic, which we have mentioned previously as part of our Winter War expansion announcement. The crate mechanic is one we’ve been looking to improve for some time, in particular after introducing duplicate protection, making the process of filling up your crate slow and unfulfilling.
Some of the key features of the new crate:
Tiered crate rewards.
Open your crate every week.
Earn bigger rewards with a higher tier crate.
Play to level up your crate to higher tiers by gaining national progression levels, opening card packs, recycling owned cards, or getting surplus cards (card duplicates).
The brand new crate will go live alongside the Winter War expansion on November 29th. Read on for all the details!
The Weekly Crate
The new crate can now be opened every week, with each crate period lasting from Wednesday to the following Wednesday. When the crate period is up, reap the rewards of your hard work in the past week and open your crate to claim your goodies!
Your crate will be available for claiming at your convenience once the crate timer is up. Once a new week starts, your progress will start to count towards next week’s crate - so if you wait a day or two to claim your crate, your progress will not be lost. Make sure not to wait too long though, as if you don’t claim the previous crate when the new week ends, then the worse of the two crates is discarded to make room for a new crate. Make sure to log in every week and claim your crate to maximize your rewards!
Your crate will be conveniently accessible on the home screen of the game, where you can view your current crate progress and open an available crate.
Crate Tiers and Rewards
The new crate comes with five tiers, each containing bigger rewards. A tier 1 crate is the base crate level which you’ll be able to claim every week. Tier 5 is the maximum crate level, which comes with some thrilling rewards.
Tier 1: 1 standard wildcard and 30 gold
Tier 2: 2 standard wildcards, 2 random standard gold cards, and 80 gold
Tier 3: 1 limited wildcard, 2 standard wildcards, 2 random limited gold cards, and 150 gold
Tier 4: 1 special wildcard, 1 limited wildcard, 1 random special gold card, 2 random limited gold cards, and 250 gold
Tier 5: 1 elite wildcard, 1 special wildcard, 1 limited wildcard, 2 random special gold cards, and 350 gold
Progress towards the next crate tier is gained by doing the following:
Gaining a national level
Opening card packs
Recycling cards you own that are in the Reserve pool
Gaining surplus cards (duplicates)
Each of these events adds different amounts of progress to your crate. There is also some difference within each of these events. For example, recycling an elite card provides more crate progress than a standard card, opening an Officer packs gives twice the amount of progress as opening a standard card pack, and gaining a higher national level provides more progress than a lower national level, as it takes longer to achieve a higher national level.
Note that as we introduce this new crate mechanic, players will no longer get wildcards for opening a specific number of card packs, as players now get points into the new crate system simply through opening packs. You will still receive the next guaranteed wildcard you can see in the pack opening interface. The gold from the First Win of the Day is also included in the crate rewards. However, we are keeping the First Win of the Day active until March, while players are acclimatizing to the new system and will adjust it slightly then. So enjoy the extra gold until then!
Existing Crates
As we move into the new crate system, we simultaneously retire the old crate system. Many may be wondering - what will happen to existing crate progress?
Any existing crate progress will be resolved automatically as we convert into the new system. That is, your crates will be automatically opened for you and the contents added to your account. For every full (100%) crate that a player has, a full crate of content will be added to your account: 1 elite wildcard, 1 special wildcard, 3 limited wildcards, 4 standard wildcards, 1 draft ticket, 1 limited gold card and 3 standard gold cards. Any incomplete crates will be resolved based on a point system, giving a player a portion of crate rewards based on how high their percentage is. For example, if a player has 135% crate fullness, they will receive one complete crate, and 35% of another crate - with the exact contents of those 35% being based on the point system. Rest assured that every crate percentage will be resolved and players fairly compensated during this transition.
We are incredibly excited to move into a new chapter with the overhauled crate system. Join us on Discord and let us know what you think!

As we march towards a brand new year, we are excited to share with you details of the upcoming year in KARDS esports.
The year 2023 was an exciting one for KARDS Esports, as we explored different tournament types, including evolving the OCC into a quarterly format, where participation in one month earned points towards qualification in a bigger quarterly event. This year saw us experiment with various formats to showcase the best of KARDS gameplay, diverse prize pools, and alternative tournament structures. Our commitment to fostering community tournaments has also grown, providing a vibrant platform for enthusiasts to host their unique, format-diverse events.
Monthly OCC Tournaments
Moving forward, we are altering the OCC format once more to move back to a monthly format. We will be retiring the OCC: Ultimate for the time being, with the possibility of this quarterly tournament returning in the same, or a different form, in the future. As we make this change, we simultaneously alter the prize pool, so that every month features a 1500 USD prize pool for the OCC: Clash tournaments!
The prize pool for OCC: Clash tournaments will now be as follows:
Place
USD
Diamonds
1st
750
2nd
450
3rd
300
4th
750
5th - 8th
500
Additionally, the winner of an OCC tournament earns the coveted KARDS Champion cardback.
Format Changes
In addition to the return to monthly format, we are also altering the qualification for the monthly OCC tournament. Here’s the breakdown:
The top 2 players on the monthly in-game leaderboard will automatically qualify for the top 8 of that month.
The next 32 players on the in-game leaderboard will battle for the remaining 6 spots through Swiss rounds.
Each player submits 3 decks from 3 different main nations and plays in a best-of-three conquest format through 5 Swiss rounds.
There will be no changes to format in the top 8: Players will fight in a single elimination bracket live on stream. Each player brings 3 decks from different main nations, with every game being a best-of-three series, except the grand finals and 3rd place matchup which are best-of-five. Conquest (you cannot reuse a deck you have already won with, but you can reuse a deck you have lost with).
Through this alternative mode of qualification, we hope to provide more dedicated players with the opportunity to prove their skills through the qualifiers and make it to an exciting finals with very lucrative prizes at the top.
Note that the lines marking the top 38 players on the in-game leaderboard will change later this month, alongside the release of the Winter War expansion. The new lines will correctly reflect that the top 2 players will automatically qualify for the OCC top 8, and that the next 32 players (down to the 34th player) will qualify for the play-ins. These format changes affect the November ladder, and will first be seen in action in the December OCC.
That sums up the changes for esports coming up ahead. We will continue to support the community in various tournament events, including support through prizes, streaming, and giveaways. If you’d like to participate in a community tournament we encourage you to join the KARDS Discord server to stay up-to-date with all the latest tournaments upcoming and ongoing in the community.
We look forward to seeing you on the battlefield, commanders!
