Dear Catanians, Please note that due to planned maintenance and our hosting and backend provider, access to the Catan Universe platform will be restricted on Monday, November 20th, from 10:00 to approximately 14:00 UTC. During that timeframe, rolling reboots of various systems will affect login and multiplayer games. While access to the platform will not be completely blocked, we recommend choosing another timeframe for playing on that day. As always, our partners will try to keep this timeframe as short as possible. Furthermore, in the last few days, we have already made several updates to the backend and database that did not require any downtime. We can already see a positive impact on performance levels and we will make further improvements based on these observations in the next few days.
Our team is also working on further bug fixes especially connected to custommatch lobby issues. We will let you know once we are ready to roll them out.

Numerous optimizations are made to reduce the error messages displayed in the game's menus and increase the stability of our service.
This update is a “Pre-Patch” for a more significant update we are working on at the moment. Our team is currently rewriting the entire multiplayer to make it perform better.

We understand that there has been some confusion regarding the recent maintenance we performed on our servers. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and would like to explain our actions in a more clear and concise manner.
1. What is server maintenance?
When we initiate server maintenance, it means that you will not be able to log in to the game. Only our developers have access to the servers during this time. This is necessary in order to roll out updates and test new features in a controlled environment.
2. Why is maintenance necessary?
Our team has been working hard to improve the performance of Catan Universe for quite some time now. In order to ensure that the updates and new features we release are stable and functional, we need to test them on the same server and database structure that you use to play the game. Maintenance allows us to gather important information and error logs that we can use to improve future releases.
3. Why do I sometimes see an outdated client message during maintenance?
During our tests, we might roll out updates to the servers and use test versions of Catan Universe. This is to catch any errors before we make them available to you. If you see messages about an outdated client, it means that we are testing new features and updates. If there is a new client available for download, we will inform you via our social media channels, Discord, and Steam.
4. Will I see any changes or changelogs after maintenance?
Not every maintenance results in an update to our server infrastructure. Sometimes we need time to run tests for upcoming updates or roll out performance fixes. We do not announce changes that have a negligible impact on the game to avoid false expectations.
5. How will I be informed about scheduled maintenance?
We will post an in-game message at least a day before the maintenance begins. We will also post on our Discord server to keep you informed. We understand that maintenance is frustrating, but we always try to keep it as short as possible and choose a time of day that is least disruptive for players.
Our team is dedicated to using maintenance to improve your experience and the overall state of the game. You will see us perform maintenance more frequently when we are working on significant changes to Catan Universe.
Tomorrow August 22 at 10 am [CEST] We will start some work on our servers. This will include Server Maintenance which will lock all players from our servers. Please note that during Maintenance you won´t be able to play. We will do our best to keep that period as short as possible. Currently, we are estimating a downtime of 2 hours.
Hi Catanians, We understand you may be disappointed with us postponing the release of version 2.3.5. Unfortunately, the changes we made overnight didn't produce the desired results. We are experiencing issues with the STEAM client becoming unresponsive to inputs when deploying it to our production environment. The production enviroment are the servers you are playing on. When we test the same STEAM client on our test servers we cannot reproduce this behavior. This is why we needed the short downtime today to test our latest changes where we can actually see the issue. We want to assure you that we are working hard to investigate and resolve these issues. However, we cannot release version 2.3.5 in its current state today. We will keep you informed once we have more information. We understand your frustration since we share them with you but we are fully committed to make this right.

✅We would like to take a moment to thank those members of our community who helped us find a workaround for the occasional display issue in the custom-match lobby. If you've noticed that your friends appear as busy on your list, despite not being in a game, please have them start a single-player match and quit right away. This should resolve the display issue. ✅
🏗️Version 2.3.5 will introduce a lot of technical changes to Custommatch lobbies, making them use fewer resources. We are therefore positive that this issue will be gone in the near future. 🏗️
🏗️We understand that the Elo display at the end of the game isn't always working properly. Our developers as well as the server and backend provider have all taken another look at the issue, and we are working to change the way your Elo gets compared to the leaderboards (on the technical side). This should help decrease the time until your client receives a response from the servers. Currently, it can take too long, and you might not see the correct values displayed. 🏗️

💡We are aware that some users have experienced crashes with version 2.3.4 on STEAM. We are actively investigating what might be causing these crashes. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to reproduce them on any of our test PCs and Macs. Update 2.3.4 includes a huge number of technical improvements and optimizations that will lead to a much more efficient communication between the game clients (your apps) and the CU servers. As a result, login, profile, shop etc. will all be faster, contributing to an overall smoother gameplay experience.
